  I just bought a rabbit not even an hour or two ago from the pet store. This little girl/guy is 8 weeks old, VERY friendly and cuddly, however it has a bald spot on it’s neck the size of texas. It’s almost perfectly circular and if i was to take an ice scraper or a spoon, I could peal it off like I were to skin him of his fur.

  Does he have wooly fur? It isn’t unusual for wooly breeds to have a thin spot there. How does the skin look? Pink and healthy?

  It is EXTREMELY wooly. He has the kind of hair that will absolutely never look well groomed. Do they usually grow back at least somewhat? It’s a pretty huge spot.

  Also, yes. the skin is quite pink and healthy looking. I’m assuming that’s a good sign!

  He’s pretty young so it might fill in some as he gets older. Wooly will be 5 this year and he has a thin spot on the back of his neck. He has always had it, but I think it did fill in some as he got older. As long as the skin doesn’t look red, irritated, flaky, scaly, etc then I wouldn’t be too concerned.

  My first Havana rabbit had the same thing, a spot the size of a quarter of fur missing on the back of her neck. It never really went away for Nefi, but she wasn’t a woolly breed so maybe that’s why hers never really filled in?

  Other breeds can have thin patches on the backs of their necks. It seems more common in wooly breeds though.
