My local rescue found a park bunny and her founr 5 week old babies a few weeks ago (They’re 7 weeks now) and the mum gave birth to another litter a few days after rescue.

So I’m foster the 1st litter until they’re old enough to be desexed. They just arrived today and they are the cutest things! They’re so little and wild because they haven’t had much human interaction. Hopefully with a little TLC they’ll get more friendly.

Does anyone have any hints and tips for helping them startle less easily and making them more tame?

Ohhhh babies!!!!!! You’ll be thoroughly entertained, i’m sure of it! How many did the mum have in the 2nd litter?

I’m not sure there is a lot you can do regarding their startling easily. I think it’s just a matter of them acclimatising to the environment. Obviously, you want to put them in a reasonably quiet zone but them being able to hear normal household sounds is a good thing too. Sticking to a routine and talking too them is good. Sorry, not got lot of advice, too busy taking in the cuteness.

          Thanks for taking them in!

            Oh goodness!!!! How adorable!!!!
I think after a few days of being around the normal noises will help them to relax a little bit. After that, if the house is bunproofed, you can let them run the living room or a bedroom or something (away from other animals as you wont want to break bonds up later or put them in danger) and just let them run around and explore. Lay on the floor and let them get used to you. This is what I did when Huckles was a baby and it was so much fun to watch her explore! Oh I am jealous, they are so sweet and cute!!!
            Thank you for fostering them!!!

You could always hang out on the floor with them for hours on end, let htem get used to having a hooman in their presence. Try to ignore them, of course, so they don’t get scared of you

Thanks guys. I was thinking of how I can do the hanging out with them. Charlie & Stevie are free roam, so the baby bunnies can’t hang in the lounge with me. We set up the xbox in the study, with the babby bunnies and at about 12pm they came out and played, doing little baby binkies!

I thought I’d spend a few days just getting them used to us, then lounge with them on the floor of the study and after that try to pet them with treat bribes.

JG, the mum had 11 in the 1st litter but 2 have since died. Apparently they’re out and about from the nest with their tiny baby eyes open. Squeee! The cuteness is overwhelming…more pictures to follow 🙂

Oh wow…11 babies! God bless that mum bunny! O_o
I just posted to your other thread….omg what a lucky person you are! ^_^ Baby bunnies as house guests for the holidays!
I would think that they startle mostly as a survival reflex, but yeah, if they’re to be socialized then sitting on the floor and reading a book they can come over and chew on would probably interest them the most…lol. (just kidding, don’t let then eat the book)

I’m sitting in their enclosure now while they munch away at lunch. They seem to like their food more than they dislike me 🙂 Hopefully this is something I can take advantage of.

LPT – yes, I will be giving them back…I hope! I intend to give them back…maybe…
