My bun is going nuts over this new homemade toy.

I turned a plain cardboard egg carton upside down (closed) and poked holes in the little hills where the eggs rest. I stuffed hay tightly into the holes. I looped some, and cut some for variety.

I then poked alfalfa pellets deep down into the hay loops, from the outside.

I opened the carton, and dropped pellets inside.

I closed the box, rattled it, and Borys came running.

He loves tugging at the hay, and will get quite fierce about it. I think it’s more like natural grazing. Once he realized more pellets were inside, he amused himself trying to open the box. Since the pellets are gone, he still eats hay from his “grazing box.”

Lol that’s a cool idea! I’ll have to try that with my bunny

Here is Borys’ Hay Toy Story:

             1. He explores new hay toy

            2. Gives me the look, “Back off with the camera, lady”

            3. He hops over to the other side and buries his face in the hay

            4. Exasperated with my picture taking, he drags the hay toy over to the territory he considers exclusively his: the litter corner.

Becoming more and more aware of pellets inside, he tips it over

            5. Success! Borys tipped the toy at just the right angle to spill every single pellet on the carpet.
He vacuums up the pellets, looking like a catfish with his moustache spread around him. This creates a tight vacuum seal that allows not one crumb to escape.

            Take that, paparazzi.
