Just watch for poop pellets. This will be a sign that their gastro-intestinial system is working. The big problem is that if they eat too much non-digestible stuff to fast, their stomach at the juncture of their esophagus and small intestine will become clogged…this is known as GI Statis. If this stomach becomes clogged, you’ll need vet help. Our bunnies have chewed some plastics also. We try to make sure they can’t get at this stuff again. So far no problem.Keep in mind that bunnies have two stomachs. Their second stomach is located at the juncture of the small intestine and large intestine. It’s in this stomach that specialized bacteria convert cellulose (vegetable matter) to glucose. If GI Statis sets in, this stomach will be devoid of contents because the upstream stomach is blocking off food flow. An X-ray of a bunny suffering from GI Statis will show their first stomach being clogged, and their second stomach being gas filled. A symptom of GI Statis is also they will be passing foul smelling gas out of their rectum. 100% healthy bunnies won’t be passing gas.
Cliff’s Notes: Watch for bunny’s poop production. If appetite and poop production are OK, bunny is OK.
