So I’ve heard many people on here mention crafts that they do for fun. I personally miss all the time I used to have to do crafts and dangit! If I don’t have the time to actually do them then I am going to at least talk about them
So I thought I would start a crafting thread for fun.
So I’ll start with myself- I’ve dabbled in numerous crafts.
I love painting, usally abstract.
I “knit” hats for charities or gift occassionally. I have knit in quotation marks because I use a cheating tool- a knifty knitter loom.
I used to make friendship bracelets.
I’ve done a few sewing crafts like making my dogs each their own dog bed.
And for my unique one is I used to create hair pieces. Not only the flower clips or exotic headbands but I would also make “wild” color clip-in hair pieces and sew them onto special clips that go into hair. I loved making new unique colors.
Man I wish you could buy time! ![]()
Here’s a pic of my mural at my parents house. (Keep in mind I painting this when I was 16/17 and before I redid the area with big giant star
):

Oooo that is so pretty!!! I really like it.
I like art but I can’t do it myself.
I make jewelry
Don’t have any recent pics, so will post some later. I mostly do wire work and chain maille pieces ![]()
Thank you bunnyfriend!
Monkeybun, I admire people who can make jewelry. I don’t have the patience for small beads. Ironically though, my aunt was a great jewelry maker (it obviously doesn’t run in families
). She passed away this year and my uncle has asked me to help him sell her beads (apparently she had thousands of them). So I’ve now been researching beads and stuff to familiarize myself with the product. There’s so many types! I’d love to see pictures of yours!
I got a book showing how to knit little critters. I have to get some yarn though. I need a lot of different colors. Do they carry yarn at dollar stores?
some dollar stores they do! What kind of little critters?
There were animals and little people. I wanted to make the bunny one first. Hehe
Frankie, i LOVE that mural!!! I can not wait until I live in a house where I can finally paint the walls. There will be little Italian gardens all over every wall!!!!
I am an art student so I do some stuff, mostly sculptures but I have been doing a lot of watercolor paintings lately. I enjoy it a lot.
I wish I could knit or make jewelry!!! I am so jealous of people who can do that, my hands cramp up on me too fast 🙁
Thank you huckleberry! Unfortunately it will only be up for maybe a year longer. My dad wants to move, my mom doesn’t. But she knows she prob will have to. Anyways, I wish I could take it with me but I can’t. If I don’t get a place that I can paint the walls next year I wanna get a big canvas and paint a mural on it! and I’m pretty envious of your default pic. Maybe you should make etsy or DA page and paint peoples bunnies for them!
LBJ- I would be the same way! I just was on etsy and there’s so many cute bunny things!
<– super jealous of all the artistically talented folks. haha. I can barely draw a circle.. and I'm not even exaggerating =[
I do think I’ll toy around with painting the walls and putting up wallpaper once I move into a house, though. I want to do a lot of DIY stuff, I’ve always been more handy with tools and building. My coworker was telling me about some sanding technique for wood furniture.. I forget what it was called.
Crafts are a huge part of my life. I love needleart. I do cross-stitch and hand embroidery. I’ve recently started making my own designs which is a lot of fun. I just finished making a chenille throw pillow with bunnies embroidered on it.
I’m planning on opening my own Etsy store soon to sell my crafts. Pretty much everything I make is bunny related, unless it’s for gifts.
I will have more pics soon but for right now I only have 1. This is a cross-stitch piece I made for my vet as a Christmas gift a few years back. It’s hanging in her clinic now. Sorry the pis is so blurry.

That’s super cool LPT!
I had an etsy store for a while… It wasn’t very well successful at all lol. But I love looking at stuff there.
And angiela I can understand that. My problem is I’m the opposite but I have the urge to buy a house and fix it up lol

LOL I can’t draw a circle either, it’s one of the hardest things to draw!!!! I always use a stencil or something lol
I spend pretty much all of my free time doing crochet. I recently started setting up an etsy shop, I don’t really expect to sell anything, but I was hoping to get involved with some of the art and craft fairs in town and thought an etsy page would make me look more reputable or professional or something. Plus I’ve had some offers from some of the local stores that sell things made by local crafters and I wanted a place to send them for pictures that wasn’t facebook and made me look more serious about the whole thing. I make tons of different things, but as this is binky bunny I’ll show off the buns ![]()
I originally learned so I could make little bunny dolls, lol. This little guy was one of my first projects that looked like it was supposed to, I call him my little storybook bunny.
I recently went on a kick to finish off some random yarn and thought, hmm.. bunny purses and tote bags!
Cute! If I could knit or crochet, I would have a house full of little amigurumi bunnies! I tried to learn crochet and it just didn’t fly.
LPT- same with me. My mom sat down and tried to teach to both knit and crochet and both failed. That’s why I cheat and use knifty knitter. It makes it super easy. And then I did learn how to crochet the ends in but thats not really crocheting. lol
Awesome stuff Kate Monster!
I love to draw <3 and paint, take photos, sew. I wish I could make those cutesy little animals!!!

I took my first art lessons from my mother’s friend at 9 years old, and in high school I had an amazing teacher who encouraged me to go to art school. I graduated with a BA in Art, and a love of Illustration (but not doing children’s books) and then never was able to get f/t work as an artist since. Several years later I taught myself to use pastels, but mostly I have always done portraiture free hand or figure drawing. Was never a painter – I liked dry medium.
I also had too many other more marketable skills, like writing, so I didn’t stay on the artist path. Learned that museums were the place to appreciate artists, so with my background it was a good fit for work for 13 years. Now that I’m laid off, it’s making it harder to get work because it was a small niche. Did some graphic design the last few years, but I may have to do more mundane work if I’m ever going to get a job. Meanwhile, my art portfolio is now over 20 years old. What I would love to do is take what I made long ago and get them printed and sold as giclees, which means reproductions where you keep the originals and rights.
My more recent medium I guess is photography. It’s so much faster and I love using Photoshop, so I get much less frustrated than I used to with the other mediums.
I will upload my 2 best portraits for you. These are on my website. Both are copyrighted by me. They’re hand rendered from looking at photos, (not projected or traced. Some illustrators do that, but I think it’s cheating.)

S&L human- that’s soo good. I should start practicing on bunjamin
Rabbitpam- those portraits are amazing! I would love to visit your website. My bf is a 3D animation major but would like to switch schools so he can go for illustration degree. He would love to go to art school but even with scholarships he can’t afford it. I find it surprising someone with your skill hasn’t been snatched up yet but I also understand how tough this industry took the recession seeing it through my boyfriend first hand.
Wow, everybody’s stuff is pretty amazing! I love looking at arts and handicrafts
.
Ever since I was little I loved making things and working with anything from friendship bracelets to beads and scrap leather…my mom said she isn’t surprised at my career choice at all, haha. She’s always been into quilting and making clothes, so from early on I would work with scrap fabrics when she sewed, and I’ve made a few small quilts and things myself. Every once in a while when I’m bored, I’ll set my mind to a project and make something..I think this tote bag is from 3 summers ago? I freehanded the whole thing and made both the bag and the pattern from scratch. I think it’s my favorite thing that I’ve made…it’s really sturdy/useful and I’ve had lots of people ask me where I got it, haha.
[edit: found better pictures!]

Thanks!
Ooh Peppy thats nice! I <3 corduroy
Wow, everyone is so artsy and crafty! LOL
This is going to sound silly, but I really loved art when I was a kid. I dreamed of being and artist. In middle school, I had a wonderful art teacher that encouraged me to be creative (even if that meant not following the assignment “correctly”). When I got to high school, I made plans to prepare for a 4 year art institute after I graduated. I took some classes, they let me “skip ahead” since I took so many art classes in middle school. Then I got a teacher that was awful. She hated my work and I couldn’t do anything right. My dreams were crushed and then I switched to science/biology. =\
oh thats cool peppy! I thought about making a skirt once because I was like it wont be so hard just sew a cylindar together thing and then I looked up skirt patterns and was like…. I’ll pass. haha
Woot got the rings I need to make a new chain maille belt
It’s going to be awesome. Stainless steel, so nice and durable.

Isn’t it awful how much effect one person can have? I always had dreams of being a vet. I had one high school advisor that told me there was no way in…. that I was ever going to be a vet because my test scores were too low and it was a flooded market anyway…. so… I spent 3 yrs completely lost in college with no direction. Grr! People!
Today, I was almost finsihed with a painting and then at the last minute I made the worst mistake ever. I chose such horrible colors that it ruined the whole painting. I have to start all over again. Luckly, I had two more of the same subject already in progress but I hate being set back more than what I had planned on.
Wow, I’m so impressed at everyone’s talent! I’m not artistic at all (that’s why I’m an engineer … haha) but I really admire creativity. I can sew a little bit, my mom taught me, but I don’t have a sewing machine of my own or the patience for projects. I kind of want my own machines though to sew pillow covers and curtains at least instead of asking my mom to make them for me.
Pam, those portraits are amazing! You’re really talented. I think I hear Sammy requesting (read: demanding) her portrait next.
LOL Thanks, but Sammy has been my photography subject for 3 years.
I love all of the fabric and sewing/knitting/crocheting projects posted here. I could never get very comfortable with sewing and machines seem to hate me, so the most I did was make pillow covers (sewed 4 straight lines) and one watercolor quilt. (Also straight lines.) Jewelry making is amazing, as it’s teeny sculpture with hot tools. I know I’d hurt myself.
It makes me very, very angry at people in positions of influence like teachers who toss someone off their chosen path. Most people are not stars of their profession, but a high level of enjoyment makes for motivation to develop skill and that can be very rewarding in a career. I think parents need to counterbalance any negative influence like that. Saying I heard: A disgruntled, frustrated artist makes a bad mentor.
