My bun Arpeggio is about 8 months old. I free feed pellets, he drinks plenty of water, and gets approved lettuce every day. Here’s my problem. He won’t eat his hay! It’s alfalfa hay. He eats a few pieces when I first put it in his cage, but he would rather spread it in his cage and use it for the bathroom! His pills are normal, not mushy. I am so confused!! It won’t hurt him if he doesn’t eat it, will it?

Since he’s 8 months old I’d reduce pellets to 1/2 a cup a day and change the hay from alfalfa to Timothy hay or you’re going to have an obese rabbit in your hands. Once his pellets are reduced I wouldn’t be surprised if he started eating more hay.

I ditto NewBunnyOwner. Pellets are much more yummy and easier to eat so once they are gradually reduced, he will most likely be more interested in the hay. You could also start introducing a variety of veggies. See the recommended veggie list in the “Bunny Info” section.

Oh my gosh, switching to timothy makes sense now. Haha, thanks for the advice guys! (: I’ll have to pick up timothy when I get my next paycheck.

Woohoo! Thanks NewBunnyOnwer123! I cut down his pellets and gave him about a cup of hay (so he wouldn’t waste a huge amount if he just relieved himself in it) and he ate it all!
