As of 12:01 tonight, it will officialy be April!! march went by so fast!!! 

So get this. I was bunny stalking today (reading through forums here on BB) and I went to a man selling them to look. LO and behold, was a box of tiny baby bunnies!!! It was so sad though, they lived in 4 separate hutches outside, each the size of a giant cardboard box. Basically, it was double the size of a tall pet carrier. It might’ve been ok if they had let them out each day, but they NEVER got out to run. They also had empty food bowls that they were sitting in, and there were a lot of them. Makes me sick. We were planning on saving 2 of them, but the babies are not old enough to be sold.

You’re fine starting the monthly chat a bit early. I don’t think it matters that much… lol.

Didn’t you just get a bunny or are you still looking for one? If that was you in the other thread who just got a bunny this week, please, please, please WAIT to get anymore. There is so much involved in rabbit care and it’s not something to just jump into with 3 bunnies. You need to think about habitats, food and hay costs, vet care, and spay/neutering any bunnies you buy. Please start with one, get him/her set up, neutered, figure out your budget and how much space you have for separate habitats before looking at any other bunnies!

Over the years, we’ve seen so many people get in over their heads by getting too many rabbits too soon, and either their care suffers, there are unintended pregnancies because it’s expensive to spay/neuter multiple buns, or they are out of space/money and have to find new homes for their beloved pets.

We had Meadow, our female mini rex, for almost a year (11 months) before we adopted our second rabbit, Max.  Having one bunny is awesome because you get to bond with them one-on-one and really learn their personality!  I think in many cases, single bunnies are more friendly to people because they get that interaction with you everyday, and you’ll have so much fun watching him/her run around the house!

I have CPR class from 8 am to 1 pm today and I’m incredibly tired. My allergies have kicked in early and it is hard for me to sleep. The allergy medication is starting to kick in, but it makes me want to sleep because I’m lacking so much of it

I was basing my comment on a thread started by you on March 29th called “NomNomNom” in which you ask if your 12 week old bunny can have pomegranates and mint:

“Hey. So, at my house, I’ve got some pomegranates that nobody will eat. We also have some stray mint plants that wecan’t get rid of. Can my baby 12vweek old bunny eat them? I understand that pomegranates only as a like 1 every 2 month treat.but what about mint? My bunny really wants it, but I won’t let her have any because I don’t know if she can have it. Can she? “

That’s why I was thinking you already have a 12 week old bunny.  Regarding the mint, you said your bunny “really wants it”.

Wow, is it April already? Today is kinda poopy. It was so warm over the weekend and then wham! Cold air! I’m starting to get really sick of this, I want it to be spring already. =(

Oh well, we had some fun on Friday. It was 70 degrees, warmer than they had thought it would be. My husband and I went hiking where I work that day. We found some really cool stuff, I guess because we went somewhere few people go (it was really really far out). I brought back the biggest fresh water clam I have ever seen in a creek. It had been eaten by a raccoon and the shell was sitting in the water. We also found a Thomas Edison battery oil bottle… in the creek. =\

I spent a LOT of time at the guys place who was selling them. He had mint and knew NOTHING about rabbits and asked ME for advice LOL. I refer to him/her as MINE because I will be getting him, and the 12 week thing was WRONG as I wasn’t paying attention to what he was saying, he said 12 weeks, and I assumed that meant the bunnies I was getting were 12 weeks. They were too tiny for that. I’m so flighty lol and I don’t know about getting two, but my mom wants a white one and I want a brown one, and the two bunnies are sorta close since they live in the same hutch.

BunBun – I have to agree with Beka. Definitely know what you’re getting into before getting in too deep. I made the decision to get three baby bunnies (all from the same litter also). We got each bunny a month apart. Although we came through the process okay – it was VERY expensive and really stressful. I would never advise it for a first time bunny owner. First of all, when you get these babies they’ll need to be separated until spayed/neutered. This is VERY, very important. They can’t play together either. So each bunny will need it’s own separate area to live, it’s own separate play space, and it’s own separate attention. As bunnies are very social creatures, you’ll need to make sure each bunny is having adequate play-time and socialization with their humans. You will need to clean each bunnies area daily as most baby buns are messy and destructive. Money. As rabbits require a special vet called exotic vets, they tend to be more expensive. Each of my appointments for their initial check-ups were $50. So for you this would translate into $100 per vet appointment (assuming no bun is sick). Next comes the spays. I would prepare for the possibility of having two girls (spays are more expensive than neuters). My girl bunnys spay was $350 – so are you prepared to throw out $700 on spays in just a few months? Spaying in a MUST. Without a spay, a girl bunny has an 80% of developing uterine cancer. I would suggest calling around to some local animal rescues or looking in the section on Finding a Vet. So you can find a GOOD rabbit vet to take your buns too. And so you can get the actual estimation of what a rabbit spay in your area would be. Next, teenager bunny hormones. They are terrible. My baby bunnies literally made me burst into tears one day. Sounds dumb, but is true. They literally attempted to destroy our whole house. Even in our rabbit-proofed area they were still finding things to destroy. We now have three holes in our carpet from when they were babies and always yanking on the carpet. They were constantly chewing on anything they could find. And they were like Energizer bunnies. They never stopped going. Now, you could say you could just throw them back into their cage when they’re being rowdy and not cooperating BUT baby bunnies are especially energetic and need lots of play time. Which you MUST provide. They hated every toy I bought them and only liked everything I shoo’ed them away from. And then the nipping. They were SO nippy and it took a good month to get each one to stop nipping so much and so hard. Then comes bonding. Since each bun needs to be separated, once spayed they will need to be re-introduced through bonding. The bonding process can take literally days to months. It’s a complicated and very stressful process for most. And takes up a lot of time and energy. Don’t get me wrong – I adore and love every one of my baby bunnies but it’s MUCH more complicated than many think. And it’s exhausting. I am currrently raising ANOTHER baby bunny who we rescued from a pet store. Now, she is like an angel compared to the others when they were babies. No accidents, has good litter habits (prepare for them peeing everywhere and it smelling until they are spayed/neutered), and is a total doll. She does have attitude but nothing like my others when they were young. I hear many more stories about horror teenage hormones than not though. So I wouldn’t bet on getting any easy one. Also, this girl is still little so I may be speaking to soon! Her hormones probably just haven’t kicked in yet. So really research and make an informed decision before buying two!!

I won’t quit being a nervous wreck until she eats something. I asked my vet about pain meds and she said they gave her a slow releasing drug to help her the first 24-36 hours.

I am glad I finally got it over with though! Phew!

I think the rabbit is a continental giant. If you google pics of the breed, you will see the bunnies are HUGE. I remember seeing a news article on one a few years ago and the rabbit was over 4 feet long.

Like clockwork I lose my hearing. Just like every year! It’s usually just my right ear and the last few days my right ear’s hearing has been really muffled. Tonight my left ear is muffled too! I miss being able to hear what I am doing. Everything sounds so quiet…too quiet.

Going to work is going to be very interesting tomorrow. I already had trouble understanding what customers were trying to say with my one ear being deaf! *sigh*
Hopefully this passes quickly. I remember one year it took a good 2 or 3 weeks for it to come back :/

Nora just got dropped off for her two day stay at one of the rescue leaders houses. They are getting her in to see one of the best vets in the area tomorrow and we will pick her up either tomorrow night or Wednesday. They will be trying to ensure her “head swaying” is in fact scanning and not EC – as well as treating her for her chronic sneezing. As well as making sure she is in fact a girl and aging her! My little girl has a busy day tomorrow — I wish I could be with her!!!

Cleaning and organizing the house after the condo fire is a real exhaustion. I’ve been trying not to overwhelm myself and do a little a day. They have been making real progress in the hallways which I think is helping my anxiety via being back home. The BF asked me if I thought it was more traumitizing since I left the buns to find someone. At first I said no because the anxiety seems to be stemming from the smoke and the screaming. Like when the elevator door opens and the burn marks are still there, I get really on edge. Or when I’m walking through the part of the hallway where it happened. But I guess not having the buns DID make my anxiety sky-rocket so it probably has contributed significantly. I think it’s just everything, really.

About 10 years ago (I was 18) I lived in a little quad apartment the guy that lived next to me decided to go after his ex wife and her boyfriend with a gun. The boyfriend was injured but ended up being okay. He terrorized the whole complex for 30 minutes before he returned to his apartment and took his own life. No one else was harmed but it was possibly the scariest thing I’d ever been through. Bullet holes in my wall and not knowing it was over until the cops made their rounds banging on doors. 

It took a long time to feel safe again in my apartment. I’m sending good thoughts your way! The anxiety is terrible.

We went out on Easter for breakfast at a buffet here. The family sitting next to us were talking about Easter bunnies. At first, I kind of cringed, because it was a family of three very young kids and they were talking about actual rabbits, as if they had bought bunnies for the holiday. But, as I overheard more of what was being said, the Mom was teaching them about small animals. She went over various facts, including how small and frail chinchillas were, as well as their need for dust baths. So, while I think they did have an Easter rabbit purchase, they at least had done the research on pets first. Hopefully the bun is given a good life and not abandoned after the kids get bored.

Tonight foster Mummy came to me and looked very serious. She picked me up and stroked my ears then scratched my cheeks the way I love. I was so happy and making tooth purries I almost missed it when she leaned in close and whispered in my ear. “You are home”
I AM HOME !!!!
Foster Mummy is now real Mummy and I never have to leave.
There is only one thing that bothers me… To make it official I must go on a tour… I heard it very distinctly ! I must go with the Vet on a new tour. I don’t like this idea as I am really not fond of travel.

Thanks for that, MD. It really is scary. I think the anxiety is slowly getting better though. What is wrong with people these days?? Both men (yours and the one here) planned on taking their whole lives – so why the need to attack and harass innocent people in the process? None of us had a problem with him, it was a problem with management. And it’s hard not to believe he was trying to take others with him. He intentionally caused an explosion, should’ve just ended his own life with no harm to others. It’s sad because he had no where else to go when they were going to evict him – but that doesn’t justify attempting to kill innocent people along with yourself. So freaky. I guess the chance it will happen again close to me is pretty slim! It was on national news, haha! Freaking crazies in this world…

CONGRATS, FOOFOO!! Are you ready for your wedding? Or do you have a million things still to do??? You always here the term Bridezilla when the wedding gets closer! Hahaha. Hope everything is on track and going well for you!

Congrats, Pascal! You are indeed a lucky bun!

Tans- I think we have most of the big stuff taken care of, just little things are left (I think/hope) like gifts for the bridesmaids and the groomsmen. I am stressing however that a vendor will back out or we will lose a groomsmen at the last minute-which is a distinct possibility. One of the groomsmen and Ryan have had a massive falling out since he asked him to be in the wedding, mostly due to work issues. Long story short, the guy has been talking sh*t about Ryan behind his back at work, and I’m like, um, no. So I don’t know if Ryan’s going to kick him out of the wedding party or not. Ugh. I am also starting to wish that one of you guys lived close to us because I would so very much like a rabbit savy pet sitter to stay with Foo so I am not worried sick about her and calling home every day that we are in Hawaii. I plan on writing a freakin’ novel about how to take care of her. Really, I just can’t believe that 18 months ago I thought 18 months was soooo long and now it’s a little over a month away (we’re getting married Memorial Day weekend. In Valley Forge, if anyone wants to wedding crash, lol).

Foo – Oh wow, I didn’t know you were getting married! I must have missed it somewhere. =\ Congrats a little early! I wouldn’t worry too much about being short a groomsmen. People don’t really care too much about whether you have an even wedding party or not. If you want to hear horror stories/words of wisdom, let me know. LOL, we had some odd things happen at our wedding. Nothing too catastrophic, but I was certainly fretting about them at the time. Most of the guests didn’t seem to notice, so that was a good thing.

I like hearing about other people’s weddings so I can live vicariously. My husband and I married in a courthouse and then spent the money we would have used for the wedding on buying a house. I don’t regret our decision but sometimes I think it would have been awesome to throw a party!

Update on Nora: She has been put on Panacur by the new vet she saw today but she won’t be coming home until tomorrow. So I’ll get a more thorough update on her tomorrow and will be sure to inform everyone as soon as we get home!

So I just found out today that I might have to go to New York for 3-6 days with my mom so she can see this medical specialist (it all depends on her doctors appointment on Thursday if we go or not). And this will be the first time I haven’t been with Lucy for longer than two days. I might make another post going into more details/what everyone thinks I should do about Lucy while I’m gone. Oh did I fail to mention that I’d be leaving in a week and a half? I’m already stressed just thinking about my options of who/where I can leave her.

Spring Quarter has started. I am at school twice this week to complete CPR and first aid training. Otherwise I am just waiting to begin my Accounting project (does not open until 4/13) and my externship. My teacher contacted my externship site and the clinic manager has yet to get back to my teacher At least I get to work in the meantime.

 

How was everyone’s Easter? I got off work at 2:30 and Mister’s parents BBQ’ed. They made me veggie burgers  Yum!

 

Tonight I made veggie enchiladas.

Filling: black beans, quinoa, red onion, orange bell pepper, tomatoes, spinach, picante sauce, cumin, chili powder, oregano.

The filling is so nutrient dense that i could only eat one
The enchiladas were so ridiculously delicious, a little spicy, and wonderful. Even the Mister ate it and approved

I can’t wait for classes to be over this semester. Only have a paper to write, but I am procrastinating sooo badly on it. Foo is too much of a distraction. Except for right now. She’s out and should be running around but she wanted to get out of her home so badly so she could fall asleep on the floor. I have to leave in a little bit and Ryan won’t be home until 3:30 ish, so I’m like run, play now!

We got married at the courthouse and we are finally having our wedding two years later when we go back to Texas to visit our family! Congrats foo! I’m so excited for you! Mine is 3 months away.

OH and Sally has made a complete recovery. You wouldn’t even think she had major surgery just two days ago!

Foo – Oh where to begin?
I guess the biggest thing that went wrong was the pictures. I had told my in-laws 2:00 (wedding was at 4:00) several times in the weeks leading up to the wedding. Well, my father-in-law dropped my mother-in-law off at the reception site so she could do some things that morning. And then she was stranded there because my father-in-law didn’t come back until WAY later. They had to go home and get changed. They didn’t make it there until 5 minutes before the wedding ceremony! I remember being really angry with them because the photographers were there and there was no one to take pictures of. Then we had to take extra pictures after the ceremony and the guests had to wait an extra long time for us to get there. They were all wondering where we were.

Let’s see, the flower lady was in a bad mood (apparently) and just plopped the box of corsages and such on the counter. She didn’t tell anyone where they were and I guess no one thought to look for them (I was busy getting into my dress). I walk down the aisle and the first words that came out of my mouth to my husband was “where’s your boutineer?” Not something you envision your first words to be when your groom lays eyes on you in your dress for the first time. But I paid money for those and nobody had them on!

Oh and the DJ. I had asked for the cover that was done of “Sunrise Sunset” from Fiddler on the Roof. I can’t remember the artist now, but they had redid the song so you could dance to it without waltzing. The DJ puts the song on for the dance with the parents and here’s the old lady from the movie belting out the words. And nobody knew how to waltz. =\

Those are the major things. There were quite a few little things that worried me at the time, but I don’t think anyone noticed those little details that were missing.

Oh man. I can’t even begin to imagine all the things that could go wrong. I got the last big thing out of the way today, I think. I had my dress fitted and it’s being altered. I hope our DJ can find all the songs we wanted, like when we told him we wanted our introduction song to be Jacks Mannequin’s Made for Each Other Part I because it’s the song Ryan proposed during, he didn’t know who they were, and didn’t know the song we wanted for our first dance either (the Glee cast version of Lucky). Little things like that are going to worry me now. I’m more worried about dealing with the church, because we had music picked out and they just told us last week that no non secular music is allowed to be played and gave us a list of songs we can pick from. So I’m kinda stressing out now because I can’t find the song I want so I can see if they will approve it. And I need to remember to get a hotel room for the night of so we have somewhere to go because I really don’t want to spend our first night as husband and wife at the Philly airport, lol

It would be easier without, but we managed to book the church in valley forge park (Washington memorial chapel) after being told it had a two year waiting list, so we jumped on it because its gorgeous and at least in my area special because it is so hard to book. Probably not the right reasons to book a church per se, but… And then the reception site made us change the time of the wedding because they thought we wouldn’t have time to get from the church to the country club, it’s been a mess with all the planning.

sighs. i think i am done ranting now. I AM happy to be getting married, and Foo is happy that she will have one last name and the vet’s won’t be confused anymore when we go in and say we are with Foo Evans-McReady, and look up both last names and don’t find her. She gets frustrated so easily, lol.

Foo – LOL, I wasn’t trying to scare you or freak you out even more. I think what I learned from the whole experience is that you need to write things down for people and make absolutely sure they know what you want. Even my in-laws apparently needed that because well… you read what happened with them. Once you have done that, it really is all you can do. Stuff is going to go wrong. But the strange thing is that all anyone talked about was how beautiful my wedding was. Things that went wrong that seemed HUGE to me were no big deal to other people. I don’t think people really noticed or cared. So if something goes wrong, try to shrug it off because chances are people won’t even notice.

My plans for Easter about making levels etc for Bosse’s cage fell through. Basicly, I forgot to take measures of the cage before going back home, and my dad has been pretty busy during the holidays. Also, I’m broke, lol.
Other than that I’ve been having a great Easter break, the weather has been wonderful, and I have regained some energy . Playing with the family dog and my little sister who’s six years old has helped bring my mood up. Going back home tomorrow.

I have the 3 Agoutis back!
Not sure if BB-ers remember them but last year I looked after a trio of “wild” rabbits for a friend. Well they’re back for a stay as the girl is to be spayed this week. The wild rabbits here are same species as the domestic pet rabbits.
I was watching them for about an hour. They are so lean and have tiny heads. And they behave just like my rabbits that are bonded.

Now I’m in with Jersey and Rumball. Looking at his big loppy body and her orange and white colouring & thinking how amazing it is that they originate from a rabbit that looks like the trio buns.

So here I am on the verge of developing scurvy due to lack of fresh veg and fruit. Every time I go to use fresh veg I look at it and think, oh… The bunnies might like that.
But tonight I thought, no, I need vegetables… So I have decided to use one of the huge bunches of bok choy, after all they have another 15 bunches, surely they would not begrudge Mummy just one bunch and maybe a carrot, the peas are frozen…..
Well, they must be psychic. i walk into the bunny room to give them their afternoon hay and it was like a scene from “Children of the Corn” 5 Pairs of bunny eyes fixed on me as if to say ” We Know What You Are Planning and we do not approve” I mean they have 5 sleeves (3 bunches per sleeve) of cilantro/coriander, 20 bunches (double checked the veg drawer) of bok choy, 4 huge bunches of spearmint, 12 bunches of fresh parsley, a pack of snow peas, 2 bags of carrots and a garden full of assorted herb and veg for top ups and treats, not to mention the fresh Kale and celery leaves I usually buy Mondays… So why am I feeling guilty about 1 bunch of Bok Choy ???????
So, If you do not hear fro me I am either dead from Scurvy or the long eared demigods have done me in for my insult of their green veg.

My favorite thing that Sally does is she will just run back and forth from the living room down the hallway back to the living room back down the hallway. It’s like a race track for her and I love watching her do it

My favorite thing that Harley does is he jumps on the couch for snuggles every night! He LOVES pets! Actually the other night Harley put his head under my foot when I was sitting on the couch and when I started moving it he flopped down because he thought I was petting him so my husband and I were petting him with our feet! Haha everytime you start petting him he just flops out where ever he is and takes it all in!

Tan Lover I also just wanted to add how bad I felt reading about your fire. I hope life returns to normal now that you are all safely back home.

My favourite thing that Nigel’s does is greet me every morning. He has the full run of the carpeted area of our large Victorian hallway and every morning as I come down the stairs he runs back and forth binkying and tossing his ears in happiness to see me. When I get to the bottom he runs over an settles in for a lovely morning cuddle, the best part of day!

We had a little change in our routine Easter Sunday however. The day before I had gone into the yard and harvested a fresh basket of apple sticks for him. As usual I placed them on the back of our vintage organ. He has never attempted to get on it so it has become a handle shelf for placing items out of his reach. Well apparently the smell of fresh spring apple was too much to resist and I came down to find this…

He was on his 6th and 7th sticks at this point. He also managed to eat some of the rubber off his brush handle so I spent all week worried he was going to go into GI Status on me. So now nothing gets left on the organ anymore! At least everything worked out and I can lau about it now!

Thanks everyone for the support with the wedding. The service finished getting planned today with the reverend. My mom keeps finding more music for me to get approved (or try to anyway) and it’s making me crazy. I know I am trying to get Vivaldi’s Spring played as the recessional and there was a song my mom found (don’t remember the name of it) that sounded a LOT like the one I wanted played for the processional (that wasn’t approved). So hopefully this music stuff gets sorted out soon and then I’ll be able to just chill out and enjoy it. Unless something goes wrong. Oh, well I still need to find a pet sitter I trust to pet sit Foo. I wish I knew anyone who lived nearby and was rabbit savy. I’m going on this great trip to Hawaii and I’m going to be calling home multiple times a day to check in/talk to Foo.

Bosse is worrying me today. He has picked up on something, sound or smell, and is super scared and nervous. He has stomped multiple times, and he nudges my feet as if he wants us to flee the area. He has been like this for about an hour and he is still very nervous. He is on guard and every sound makes him twitch. I have no idea what has scared him.. I feel so bad cause I can’t really do anything except comfort him and cuddle him.. Have your bunnies done anything like this?

One time, I was hanging some string lights up over Beans condo, and they TERRIFIED him. He stomped and hid. Plastic bags also terrify a lot of bunnies at the rescue. I would look around the room, and see if there is ANYTHING that might create visual/auditory chaos that could scare him. I would offer him a small amount of a favorite treat if he will take it, to make him happy which might calm him. Just try to eliminate any potential stress-ers for him. You might want to call a local House Rabbit Society chapter, they tend to be good at helping you fix a problem with your bunny. I hope he feels better soon!

There really isn’t anything I can think of.. There are some clothes lying around, but that’s nothing new.. He will eat salad and a bit of hay, so he isn’t in full panic mode.. He was fine when I woke up, fully relaxed, and nothing has changed since then.. I haven’t made food or coffee or anything..
I wish I could call them, but I live in Norway.

He has calmed down a little now, but is still a bit skittish. Me and the bf are just sitting on the ground, trying to calm him down. It’s helping.

Mine have been behaving like psychos this week. The other morning Pepper started thumping at about 1 am. I went in and they were all under the condo. I searched the bunny room and checked outside… Nothing. Pepper was quite frantic and wanted me to come under the condo with them I may have lost weight but I a not that skinny. Then the thumping restarted, this time every bunny was in a corner of the Xpen. This went on till dawn. Still no sign of intruders of any species. This morning I spotted a large cockroach, unfortunately for the roach so had Finn Gall Feline Destroyer. I suspect this was the cause of the angst. The last time it was the bush rat on the windowsill.

Hmmmm. This sounds a bit strange, but have you recently changed the smell of your home or wore a new perfume or something like that ( sorry, not trying to creep here )? The only other time Bean has ever stomped was when I started wearing a new scented oil. I know that they identify people by their smell, so maybe that could be making him uncomfortable? That is my only other guess.

I will search the aptm for bug intruders. I just found out that there was a fire (a small one) in the neighborhood a few hours ago, at the local store, could it be the scents of the fire that are bothering him?
When I came in the living room, he was asleep and fully relaxed. That was an hour after the fire..
I’m also thinking the upstairs neighbors might have acquired a new pet, or something else that he could be picking up on.

FooFoo – I’m sure things will be fine and hopefully will work out better than you are thinking right now.
I like hearing my parent’s wedding story, it’s sad but funny lol. I’m sure yours can’t go worse than theirs did. Basically, my dad got sick the day before, so on the day of the wedding, they were up at the altar and my dad was feeling horrible and weak, they were hoping to just have a really quick ceremony and get it over with. But since he was still sick, the lights and the suit didn’t help with how hot he was feeling. He was sweating a lot (sounds very gross I know….) but he was even sweating from his hands and his legs began shaking, he could hardly stand. The pastor had to stall the wedding a little so they could get my dad some water, so for the longest time, he was reading passages from the Bible. The audience was all confused. My dad could no longer stand and had to finish the ceremony on his knees and my mom and a groomsman had to hold him up from falling.

After that, everyone was headed to the reception but there was a ceremony just before them and the church forgot to replace the previous reception address with my parent’s reception address so a lot of the guests went to the wrong reception. The DJ didn’t show up either. During the ceremony, they had someone video taping as well as someone just with a voice recorder. But the audio for the video tape got unplugged so there is no sound. On the voice recorder, you can barely hear anything because the guy who was voice recording it had a cold and was coughing the whole time lol.

I forget what else went wrong but I know I’m missing something. By the end of the day, they were so exhausted they just got food from fast food I believe and went straight to sleep lol.

Sorry I added this a bit late  my favourite thing my bunny does, is ask me to race her, she’ll stand at the gate, run up and down, and as soon as I run out ( in my house Vienna asking to race is a suitable excuse to just run out during dinner &nbsp she’ll rocket up and down while I run pitifully slowly behind her  . I also loved the way Oreo would climb all over me looking for treats and Clent’s going to sleep in the middle of the garden ( he actually left a little dent )

Ardelt – Thank you so much! Things are finally starting to get back to normal and I’m finally happy to be home with most of the anxiety I was experiencing gone! They have painted the hallways and redone the carpets so the smoke smell is starting to fade on our side of the hallway. I think that has helped quite a bit. The smoke smell and burn marks constantly had me on edge all the time. Call me crazy but I’m pretty sure Sidney (one of my girl buns) was just as anxious as me the first few days. She was acting so kooky. But she is fine now and so am I! Btw, that picture of Nigel is hysterical. He sounds like one of my Tans! Creating such shennanigans!

Svandis – As recently having a fire in my condo – I can tell you the bunnies DEFINITELY pick up on it. Before the smoke reached us, all my bunnies were on instant alert. I was actually confused as the fire alarm was SHUT OFF before the explosion. So I just assumed the fire alarm was what had had them on edge. But then they didn’t stop and that’s when the explosion happened. So they definitely smelled the smoke before I could. AND before anything exploded. Scary enough, I had posted a post on Facebook about how on edge they all were the night before. Freaky, huh?!!! Glad to hear Mr. Bosse is doing fine now though!

As for favorite things my bunnies do: Hmmmmm….

Okay, Fleury – he loves to play this thing we call “head games”. When you’re putting his head he’ll start throwing his head everywhere (almost like he’s having a dominance battle with you) but he’ll start licking your arm the longer you do it and he’ll come up and nudge your hand wanting to play! Haha. Not sure what it means, but he LOVES it and so do we. We always trick him and get him to stand up on his hind legs when he does it and kiss his tummy! Bahahaha.

Sidney – Now she’s a hard one. She’s a total goober. I have to say I love how she’s always climbing up onto our shoulders and backs. You’ll be sitting straight upright and the next thing you know you have a bunny sitting on your shoulder. It’s adorable. And since she’s not a very cuddling bun it’s a time when you can get really close to her.

Tanger – Now Tanger is a hard one also. Not because he’s not really friendly but more because he’s just so darn active and hyper. He thinks it’s hysterical to nip you right in the butt and then binky away. He’s such a jokester. I think my favorite thing about him though – is how much he loves to play. No matter how long he’s been jumping around and playing – if you want to play, he’ll continue playing with you.

Simba – Simba’s the easy one. I LOVE LOVE LOVE how he loves to cuddle. He will cuddle with you for hours. He gets antsy when he has to go to his litter box but once you take him he’ll cuddle with you until he has to go again. Although he hates when you stop cuddling him and will give you a good ole nip if you stop!

Nora – Nora is pretty easy also. I love how I can put Nora in my lap for a good two hours and just read a book while she lays or climbs around me. She loves just hanging out on you and falls asleep quite easily while you’re busy reading. It’s nice with her because you don’t have to keep petting her to get her to stay there! Haha!

Tanlover – oh, thats freaky! They are so sensitive. I bet it was either the smoke that still lingered, or blew over here, or a bug. Still haven’t seen a bug in the house so it could definitly be the smoke.

I’m petsitting a hamster for the upstairs neighbours (the people we rent from). I’ve never had a hamster and haven’t really had friends with hamsters growing up either, so it’s fun to interact with a new type of animal. He is so easy going! Not so cuddly, but he is really unafraid. He loves to run around in his plastic ball, I just stick the ball in his cage, and he will get in it as soon as possible. It’s fun having him out too, he is really curious and fast. Bosse is jealus though, because he wants his food (he is on a mix, not pellets, and ofc Bosse wants it, lol).

mimyz, that makes me feel better. although if that much got mixed up with the dj and stuff, i’d probably ask for the money back. i know It will all be fine, my parents are on top of all the vendors, and i’m just worried because i’ve never left Foo alone before for more than a few hours. We haven’t taken any trips in the past year, so I’m just overly worried because we’ll be so far away that even if we call home, we might not get to talk to anyone because of the six hour time difference.

How’s the weather where everyone is? It’s like 80 here. I left Foo curled up with her blankie wrapped around her ice bottle. I tried to spritz her ears to keep her cool, since she felt warm but she got mad at me and told me in foot stomps that she most certainly did NOT need a bath.

So many things have been going on in my direction.

 

I went to the interview for the externship today and did not get it. I’m not stressing over it. The supervisor will be giving my resume to other departments in the clinic to see if they want to sponsor my externship.

 

I will most likely not be attending my brother’s wedding next May. With me graduating (I am not sure when I will be getting an externship, graduating, or even securing a job) and wanting to move out, I do not think it is very realistic at this time. My brother will be getting married on the East Coast (UGH, so far) and I just don’t have that cash. I have been waiting YEARS, literally years to move out into an apartment with my bf. I’ve been doing some apartment searches and found one place that will accept rabbits, and of me adopting another as long as I pay a security deposit (which is not cheap, but that is the price you pay for pets) and it made me excited.

 

What I am trying to say is: I want to move out, and moving is not cheap. I have to be realistic here and I will not put my goals on the back burner Moving out is going to cost me a lot of money, not only with the deposit, but with pet deposit, household items, furniture, rabbit proofing an entire apartment, plus paying off medical bills — I can’t afford it. I’m going to talk to my brother’s fiancee and let her know as soon as I can so she can find another bridesmaid.

When I let her out, she’s gotten into trying to escape. And the silly girl thumps every time she walks up to try and get out. Such a backwards little girl.

I would try to go, if I were you. Your brother’s wedding is a (hopefully) one time special day for him, would suck if his sister would miss it. If it means waiting an extra couple of weeks to get an apartment, or having your BF maybe pay a bit more at first, it would be worth it. Family matters!

Seems there is always something with weddings. For my parents, a dog got to their wedding cake the morning of the wedding. Lol
And my Mum broke her arm in the honeymoon. So Dad had to play nurse. Mum was a newly trained nurse at the time so the role reversal was interesting for her.

Here is the little bun that was spayed yesterday. She’s doing pretty we with her recovery thank goodness! Her and her brothers are with me until Saturday.

Speaking with Mum today I learned I’d missed other details about their wedding hiccups. She said her bridesmaid (she only had one) broke her leg the week before the wedding. So she hobbled down the aisle in a leg cast. Mum also had recent treatment for a dental abscess and had stitches removed the morning of the wedding. It resulted in a black eye.
Dad had to have a tooth extracted during the honeymoon by an emergency dentist and was in pain much of their trip and Mum broke her arm toward the end of it.
Anyway, they’ve been married 45 years now.

Jersey – so funny that you say she’s sick of those meds! She definitely is – it was beginning to be a 15 minute escapade to get her to take then… but THENNNN… last night she FINALLY decided to try a lick of the pumpkin I’ve been trying to encourage her to munch on. And she LOVED it. So I took a teaspoon of pumpkin and mixed it with her Panacur. Stirred it up and left it on the spoon, she gobbled the whole thing up. So much easier! She’s such a goober. She has so much room to play – I was in the kitchen doing dishes a second ago and there she goes again – THUMP – look over and sure enough she’s trying to escape. LOL. Idk how she got it into her head to thump every time before she does something she’s not supposed too. Hysterical little one. I think her hormones are beginning to come in also (it’s about that time I do believe since we guess she is about 4 months old now). She’s getting to have so much attitude! It’s adorable though. I think it’s safe to say her attitude will never reach the levels of the Tans when they were this age – so I am happy!

And those bunnies! UGH. So adorable! Her head shape is exactly like the Tans! So lean and sleek. Love it!

Ugh. This morning was very stressful/annoying. I was awoken at 7 am by an extremely loud and blaring noise right next to my room. After trying to look around at the air conditioning controls, I realized it was my smoke detector going off (there was no fire or smell of smoke or even anything that would set it off). So while the loudest, ear splitting noise was going on, I was directly next to it trying to disable it. But of course the smoke detector in our house is 100000 years old and impossible to turn off. So Lucy and I had to sit through the horrible sound for 5 minutes, and FINALLY it stopped. I was just about to put Lucy in her carrier and go outside, that’s how bad it was. I called my dad afterwards and he says it’s probably full of dust and that caused it to go off. Fantastic. I don’t even want to go near the thing now to try and clean it out! Ugh, this morning was so stressful and I hope the noise wasn’t terrifying for Lu. When I went to check on her, she was just laying down in her cage normally and she’s been doing everything else normally too.

Good thoughts for ChaCha!

The new babies, Inara and Helo, had their first vet visit. They’re growing nicely and looking overall healthy! I actually was able to get in touch with the breeder that bred them so we now know their exact birthdays. Helo was born 2/6/13 (9 weeks old) and Inara was born 2/14/13 (8 weeks old on 4/11). She emailed me their “pedigree” which shows their parents > grandparents > great grand parents. It’s interesting but since they’re house pets I don’t have much use for the paperwork. They’re half siblings with the same father but different mothers.

They eat and drink like little piglets. I can already tell that Helo is going to be another Monty (outgoing, escape artist, bossy). Inara seems to be a bit more reserved but I think she’s still coming into her personality. I’ve been busy trying to plan out their “long term housing” since right now they’re just in their NIC Cube X-Pens.

Silly Nora. I’ve come to the conclusion that she knows when she’s doing something bad… because I’ve been shooing her away whenever she tries to chew on my shirt (she keeps putting holes in them!) so now she’s started thumping whenever she comes up to chew. Little rascal I swear! I also finally got her to eat pumpkin so medicine time has been so much better! Mix the Panacur in with a teaspoon of pumpkin and she gobbles it right off the spoon! She’s starting to really come into her personality. She seriously gets cuter by the day.

they swear that veggies are bad for rabbits and fatten them up? I’ve tried explaining to them that it’s pellets, and I gave them an example of how many pellets and veggies a rabbit should have(1/4-1/2 cup of pellets, 2 cups of veggies for a 6 pound rabbit), and they’re acting like feeding rabbits vegetables is some rare, exotic technique.

Ask her: what type of pellets they fed, alfalfa or Timothy based? How much per day? What type of veggies did they feed? Did she also give it fruit?
How much time did the rabbit get out to exercise?

If they were raising pure bred rabbits, it’s not uncommon for some to be well over the breed standard in weight. That’s more to do with genetics.

Pellets were developed for the meat industry. You sometimes see them referred to as Grower pellets.

It’s a bit general. If they knew it’s predominately leafy greens that are fed, I wonder if they’d think the same? Wild rabbits eat their share of vegetation/herbage. Much of the leafy greens we feed are just cultivars of this.

I’m not sure what that poor little bun’s fate will be. He is hobbling around and you can see his leg bend in a very unnatural manner. I’m afraid the stress of trying to catch him might scare him to death. Not sure if the wildlife rescue people can do anything for him or not.

Also, I’m super duper happy because I finally scheduled Bean’s neuter! He only weighed 2.6 lbs when I took him for the checkup, so the couldn’t operate on him as he was too small. He has been eating well, and is going in a few weeks! Hoorah!

Chacha was diagnosed with fur mites. The vet gave her some Revolution. After two days, the scabs are gone and she is good. In the meantime, I am vacuuming daily, throwing a bunch of my laundry, bedding, couch cushions, etc into the washer on hot water. Looks like I will be vacuuming daily for a few weeks! As long as those suckers don’t touch my bunny ! I think I picked up some mites on my visit to the shelter. Things happen, now I learned

yuppity I agree with you. a lot of showers/breeders who raise for show rabbits and 4H(some, not all) treat their rabbits more like livestock(I treat our “livestock” like pets, anyways, haha) than pets or family. little wire bottom cages, pure-pellet diet, etc… or at least that’s what I’ve witnessed. 

but anyways, Chacha is too cute!! I adore her little chubby cheeks and white nose.

As for the injured wild bunny. I know it must be hard to watch, but I would just let nature take its course. A hungry predator will see the bun suffering and end it for him while getting a meal. That way the buns body doesn’t go to waste. He will get to contribute to another animal’s life and provide a meal.
You know, the whole life cycle thing.

Second: She’s done it, through sheer perseverance Blossom has finally found a way to get the box off the vertical blinds in the bunny room. Little bugger has been trying for a while and she has discovered if she works it off the windowsill and over the edge of the shelves all she has to do is give gravity a little help with a velvet paw and the box falls off. Thankfully last night they decided to chew the reviled box instead of the blinds.

Good news, I might actually get a bunny!!

Hubby wants a motorcycle very badly and he might let me get a bun to make up for it! We used to want a Flemish, but with Easter bunny dumping time in full swing we’ll probably give our Humane Society a shot.

At first Hubby said he wanted a Tan (thanks, tanlover… ), but I told him they’re wired just like our Siamese is and a Tan would be like Lily in a bunny costume. We both would like a Rex, but I guess we’ll just see what the shelter has to offer.

Wah, what a stressful day.

My Accounting teacher opened the class up to allow us to start this big project and the whole formatting and instructions do not make any sense, the scans of the items are sideways, and what information I need to input into the excel sheets make no sense at all. So I’m going to meet up with her on Wednesday to figure out what the hell I need to do !

 

Chacha bun is doing well. My coworker had one of my regular customers and the customer gave her FIVE neatly chopped of carrot tops for me!!!!! !! The diva HAD NO IDEA WHAT TO DO WITH SO MANY!

 

Saturday was very gloomy here in the Pacific Northwest and my allergies are hurting me, so all I wanted was comfort food. I googled a recipe online and bought the stuff after work (cost me a whopping $7 or less, plus I had some ingredients at home):

Vegan chili and cornbread with a little shredded Daiya cheese on top It was hearty and delicious. I stunk up the backroom at work Leftovers for 2 days!

HAHAHAHAHA! He does NOT want a Tan – No one wants a Tan unless they want an Energizer Bunny designed to do nothing but chew, destroy, and mangle everything in their sight. Haha! I love my Tans but goodness are they a handful. You have to expect what you get with a Tan for sure. Not cuddly in the least although they love to play games with you. And baby Tans – might as well admit yourself into the psych ward now. Hahahah! I would never recommend a Tan to anyone unless they are looking for a very friendly but overly active rabbit. You just have to expect they are very cunning, witty, and will escape anything you put them into. As well as Sidney jumping the 36″ inch x-pen despite being only 4 lbs. I love my little buggers and would get another one in a heart beat but as I said – you have to expect what you are getting.

BENJIIIIII – Oh gosh. I haven’t seen him around these parts in awhile. Hoppy Birthday! He is just so freaking gorgeous! (Sorry, like I do with Blue… I just can’t help myself when saying these things a MILLION times because he totally deserves it!)

ChaCha – that looks delicious! Hope the Diva is doing better nowl!

Ugh, kill me now. Nora has lost ALL sense of her litter box or whats it’s used for. Accidents galore. Everywhere. Darn hormones must be kicking in because she’s been PERFECT about her litter habits since we rescued her. I’ve cleaned up three accidents so far today. And because of her head swaying they don’t want to do her spay until she’s 6 months old… which leaves me with 2 more months to deal with hormonal attitude. Did I mention her attitude now? It’s off the charts. She has begun thumping her feet every time you walk past her cage and she’s sleeping. Like c’monnn girl! Take the ‘tude down at least one notch!

Did anyone hear about the bombing at the Boston Marathon? Two bombs were placed at the finish line near the stands! Idk how many fatalities/injuries there were.

Actually apparently there were MORE than two bombs hidden but only those two went off and then the bomb squad came in and are still continuing to find even more bombs throughout. This is just terrible what ppl are doing to each other

In other news….I got the mother to take me to ‘Better Pets And Gardens’ and they had puppy crates AND doggie exercise pens!! We just talked about why I wanted to make apollos cage to the proper size, she kept mumbling about ‘How could be move an entire pen?!’ And ‘It’ll be bigger than his cage’ and I was like ‘Pens are dead easy to collapse and move!’ And ‘Yep it’ll be bigger, that’s the point, but when we have guests and it needs to be moved, we can shrink it down a little temporarily!’ And she FINALLY said okay. But I have to convince dad. Dads the worst for convincing into things, I hate to say it, but he’s one of those ‘Im always right’ people. Any help there?!

Oh and when we went into the store to look at these pens, the floor guy came over and he asked if we needed any help. I asked if he had any smaller pens (the one on the shop floor was as tall as me…I’m 5ft. He was like “Sure, what breed were you looking for?” You should have seen his face when I said in all seriousness, “Umm…it’s for a bunny actually. How does about 40″ sound?”

The Boston marathon tragedy was just horrible. They had canceled the New York City marathon because they suspected something like this would happen – and then it happens in Boston. It really makes you wonder if the people who were involved in the NYC one were involved in the Boston one. I’m signed up and scheduled to run in the Pittsburgh Half-Marathon next month – makes me a little nervous now.

BunnyGirl – Keep pushing! And my 4 lb. bunny can jump the 36″ x-pen so I would try for the 40″ if you can!

MB – They love my blood type too! But I haven’t donated – I tried to once in high school and the lady messed up my arm so bad. I had so many bruises and she never even got any blood because she stuck it in my arm but it wasn’t in a vein so no blood (besides me bleeding) even came out! It was so traumatizing and then I fainted, LOL.

Glad you found a cause.  I … have no idea what suddenly happened. I’d tried giving them more boxes, fewer, hay in, hay out etc and nothing was working. So I just said forget it and was cleaning up after them every day. Then one day, poof, they wanted to use the boxes.

Well, we’re back from the Humane Society. Believe it or not, they had NO bunnies, not a single one. Although I guess that’s a good thing.

They said they’d call if they get one in, hopefully they won’t forget. They did have some of the fattest cats I’ve ever seen though! You would think a shelter would have smarter ways to manage their food (and funds) than to stuff their animals until they’re obese.

Maybe the kitties were already overweight when they came? It doesn’t surprise me that there are no bunnies. My humane society (the only shelter in town) doesn’t have any bunnies sometimes. Actually, if they do have any bunnies it is usually just one or two. The most I have ever seen at one time was four.

Wow! Your societies are lucky, the closest SPCA to where I live has more then seventy-five rabbits. Some have been waiting more then two years to be adopted, … makes me feel awful! But they have two less waiting for a home now. Hope I can post pictures of my newest babies soon!

jerseygirl: Thanks, I’m pretty excited. Although I do feel like I’m being selfish, Hubby doesn’t necessarily want a bunny. Right now we’re just “looking”, nothing’s set in stone yet. I might still back out.

We did ask the guy at the Humane Society about the lack of rabbits, he just shrugged and said they haven’t gotten any in a while. Whenever they do get some, he said they stay there “forever”. So I guess they don’t give them to a rescue. I did just find a rabbit rescue not too far from us, so we might check them out sometime soon.

Bullrider, I think it is so cruel! I saw a bunny in England that weighs a lot and the owner has been told by 2 vets to not feed it certain things! I think one was CRACKERS ! UGH!

 

I made this for lunch yesterday

 

Cauliflower and red lentil burger with tomatoes, mushrooms, panko sesame coated onion rings, cilantro, green leaf lettuce, spinach on Blue’s Buns (by Dave’s Killer Bread!) and homemade sweet potatoes! The patties made five so I froze the other 4 for a lazy night. I plan on using panko crusted eggplant for fries the next time around

This winter was so long we had snow in late March and all my friends and facebook feeds were just filled with how wonderful the Texas weather was…I was getting SOOOOO jealous because it’s already in the 80’s-90’s at my home and here it was so cold!

Luckily, the past week or so it has been soooo much better! My mood was immediately lifted after experiencing a warm day Hang in there! I’m sure spring will show her face soon! ) It’s in it’s 60’s here now. It’s not my hot texas weather that I’m used to but I am really enjoying this spring weather!!

It’s crazy how weather has an effect on a persons mood and mental state. I have been so uplifted the past week because of the weather!

Well, turns out the rescue I found only deals with wild rabbits. So I guess I’ll just have to wait for the Humane Society to get one, hopefully they won’t forget to call.

Sally was so cute this morning! I caught her eating out of the big bag of hay. She jumped into the box, dug open the hay and was chowing down! I guess they hay in her box wasn’t good enough. As soon as I walked in she bolted to her cage and I gave her some more fresh hay and she started eating the hay in her box. But then as soon as I left the room she hopped right back to the bag of hay to eat that! *sigh* I love, love, LOVE watching them eat hay! It’s so cute

Anyhow, I thought I’d tell you guys about an app I’m developing. Basically, you can scan any cosmetic item from the store on your smartphone, and it tells you whether or not it was tested on animals. If it is, then it suggests an alternative. I’m really excited, because animal testing effects one of my favorite breeds of bunnies- the florida white! The are so wonderful, and its a shame how cruel people are towards them.

A little while ago, I found a perfect bunny that I was going to adopt as a companion for Bean, but it turned out that the shelter messed up, and she didn’t exist. I’ve been stalking Petfinder, and I think I’ve found a great bunny! I’m waiting to find out about her personality after her spay, but I can’t help but be interested, SHE IS SO CUTE! We’ll see if Bean approves.

BUNNYGIRL-HAY SHORTAGE ALERT….. Pet Professionals usual supplier was unable to make their delivery today. He did however go to the store to advise them there is a hay mite problem and they will be unable to deliver more hay for a fortnight…… I grabbed 4 bags today at Wanneroo but that won’t last my long eared hay threshers a fortnight so I am going to try and get a bale from Wangara Stock feeders. I got it there once before during a shortage. Don’t know how far reaching the problem is yet if its just one provider or the entire community of hay growers (I hope not, as mine will not eat meadow hay alone) Meadow hay is unaffected at this stage. Don’t know where Pet Warehouse gets there’s but it’s another option.

well, been a busy day. Blue started sneezing about 5 days ago, and I heard him cough this morning so I took him to our vet this afternoon. Dr. Helm is awesome she took good care of blue who was clearly STRESSES out that he had to go there. he had a temp of 102, and some gunk in his nose that Dr. Helm suctioned out. then she gave him a nebulizer treatment (and didn’t charge me for it!). he will be on antibiotics for 10 days. so I am going to have to watch him closely to make sure he is eating and pooping normally, so far so good. So she said that he has an upper respiratory infection and for me not to worry too much. so just another day…

She is so beautiful! The problem is that the shelter where she is at is so far away that I wouldn’t be able to bring Bean and see how they get along. I’d just adopt her, and hope they hit it off. Do you think this is too much of a risk? I kind of need to have them bonded. Thoughts?

Gosh I am so happy to see Sally so happy! She is never in the living room during exercise and now that she has a boyfriend she is always in here with us! Right now Sally and Harley are tag teaming a paper towel tube I love watching them interact it puts a smile on my face seeing how happy Sally is to have a companion. I really think she was starting to get lonely now that I see the difference in her temperment since bonding her to Harley. She is like a whole new bun! It’s so funny when Harley takes off to do a zoomie down the hallway, Sally is close behind him doing the same thing. She is on him like white on rice. I am so happy to see my sweet baby happy! This is only two days of being together so I am really excited to watch them fall deeper and deeper in love in the following weeks and months

Oh jeez, I’m bun whipped! I just ran out of hay, and I sent mum in an emergency mission to grab some bags from the pet shop. She wasn’t in the place where it was, so she just nipped into another store to grab a bag. There were two different bags with labels and she rang me to ask which I wanted. Here’s the conversation…
Mum: Okay, there’s a bag that is un branded, it just says oaten hay on it with a sticker, and a small pet eating hay bag. Which do you want me to get?
Me: Um…is the un branded bag fresh looking? Does it look dry? Is it the same as the usual hay?
Mum: Yes, it looks fine. I’ll just get this one!
Me: Okay, sure!

I’m bun whipped. How on earth did I get to discussing hay? Anyway, she got it and bought it home, it smells delicious, looks really fresh and Apollo loves it!

One time, I was on a trip, and Bean was left with a pet sitter. She didn’t put the hay where it was supposed to go, so we quickly ran out. I sent her a picture, barcode, even told her what to ask the worker at the pet supply store! I’m so particular about my bunnies!

So I went to my volunteer orientation for the SPCA today and I had such a great time! You’re only able to work in one section of the shelter, so obviously I chose small mammals to work with the buns, but cats as my second! (I’m definitely a future cat lady). They actually only have bunnies in their small mammals section right now and they’re all HUGE. Probably all 12-15 lbs and ten in total. And they all came into the shelter on the same date, so I’m assuming that they were probably seized from someone. I can’t wait until I’m actually working with them! OH. And I almost came with all of them today, because this month they’re having a special…… $5 to adopt a bunny or a cat…. HOLY CRAP $5 CATS AND BUNNIES ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? It’s because they’re so over run with cats right now and basically all the small animal cages are full of these giant bunnies. Someone hold me back before I go adoption crazy.

Also another cool thing, we got to go out to the barn and ten minutes prior, a horse had just been born! It was so awesome! They recently seized a bunch of pregnant horses from a cruetly case, and two babies were already born. So cute. Baby horses are so leggy. 

 

The funniest thing was when I got home, Lucy was like, “WHO ARE YOU? WHY DO YOU SMELL LIKE THAT? YOU’RE NOT MY MOM. I DON’T KNOW WHO YOU ARE, BUT YOU DO NOT SMELL LIKE YOU!” She wouldn’t let me pet her until I changed clothes. 

 

I did take a few pictures though, and it’s hard to see how big they really are, but to compare, the water bottle behind them are the small 8 oz ones.

Roberta, sounds about right with my Tans and Nora. Not the Simber Bun though – he’s a perfect gentlemen I swear. His only flaw is he likes to redecorate so he can lay against the x-pen but he never destroys anything just slides it over and slips between them.

Ella, I have only been cooking for four months and I definitely still make a lot of mistakes I find easy vegetarian / vegan recipes off of blog sites and read the comments. Cooking has become my therapy and is fun to do. I even give my baked goods away to people to try. They are shocked that the baked goods contain no dairy or animal products. I even found my boyfriend eating the cupcake frosting out of the bowl

What is this app? I don’t use products tested on animals, and I recently bought some nice sunscreen by Alba Botanicals that goes on very nicely and doesn’t feel sticky and gross! I love it

I made soup for dinner. I am getting better at making soup! 

It is a vegan lasagna soup and it has a NICE spicy kick to it. I can’t stop eating it

I’m not sure what I’m going to call the app. I’m going to see if the HRS could feature it on their home page and endorse it. It will likely be a little while, as it should be my “summer project”. If you guys have any suggestions for it, please share them!

Also, my grandfather built a beautiful hay box for me! It is the only hay storage ( with the exception of the BunnyBuffet, which runs a pricey $75 ). I can’t stress how helpful it is, because I used to serve hay in the litter box, and it wasted SO MUCH! Now, its all clean and fresh hay, and he can have as much as he likes. All the hay racks that I’ve seen available hold 5 minutes worth of hay! Also, I keep him on a carpeted surface, so every time I had to replenish the hey, a bit of a hay would get on my carpet, now I don’t have that. I will get up pictures! I would strongly suggest making one of these. If not, how do you guys keep your hay contained?

I have a rack that is usually used for paper. A wire thing. Once I can get dad to agree to letting me keep the spoiled brat in an xpen, I’ll fill that with hay and zip tie/binder clip it to the inside of the pen. I’ll then just slide a peice of cardboard down the back to stop it falling out. It’ll hold easily 24hrs worth of hay! I use the litter box currently!

Oi. I’m telling you this semester has been killing me. Thankfully this is finals week and I’ll be done. =] Sort of bittersweet when you think about it though. I’m ending my tutoring job because I’m graduating. I couldn’t give two hoots about graduating. =p I have a ton more of school to continue so it’s whatever. =p But I’m sad that I won’t be tutoring anymore. I love my job. HI TL, My Pascal is like Simba… He is sweet and gentle whilst the others are feral wilderbeest. (Not that I love them any less, I am about to spend 80% of my performance bonus on them) 4 spays and a neuter in the next month.. Not going to have any finger nails left… Extra recovery cage and critical care and other first aid ites to be prestocked plus soe extra Xpens for post desexing rebonds. Of course some toys too. Plus something for the cats, Poor Bilbo will be distraught, he has taken to sleeping with the buns in the evenings. Bilbo thinks everything with fur is his kitten and must be cared for.

The FDA and food industry is disgusting, and that is why it pays off to read ingredients or make your own food Nobody is perfect in this world that is full of chemicals and processed junk, but that is why educating is so important. I find it hilarious that people think I must be perfect. Did you know that gummy bears, some yogurt, ice cream, dip, and marshmallows contain gelatin, which is collagen from animal by-product? I’m pretty sure that I’ve accidentally eaten something with gelatin, but I’m not making a fuss out of it

That’s what I said four months ago.. that I would never be able to do not. Everything tastes different to me and I feel great. Plant based diets are increasing among people and there are lot of health benefits. It isn’t a sacrifice to me, it is more like an ethical duty and something that has opened my eyes to many things. I don’t have anymore mid-afternoon slumps, and I haven’t gotten sick in four months even though I have the worst immune system on the planet, and I don’t feel crappy after a meal. My doc says I’m doing great   My next goal is to visit an animal sanctuary to visit the animals. I think the experience will be beautiful.

There is a 91 year old man that was diagnosed with colorectal cancer when he was 69. He is still here, thanks to a vegan diet.. and he just finished a marathon.

I haven’t really had fish in a while. Plus, reading about how mislabeled fish is and how it isn’t even managed turned me off to it. I get enough Omegas from flax, hemp, and chia seeds that I toss into my smoothies Those little seeds are powerful suckers. I even ground flax seeds to use as an egg replacement in baked goods and have made flax seed mil  And avocados are really good too. I eat at least half a day.

ChaCha, you are amazing! I’m a vegetarian, and I’d love to be a vegan, but my parents won’t let me . Its a shame, I’m a firm believer in the diet. Really, all I eat is baked falafel, tofu, greek yogurt and the occasional dark chocolate. I don’t really get it, whenever I have non-vegan fodos, I feel really… egh… afterword.

I’m so pro flax and chia seeds. I throw them into just about everything! I’m not completely a vegetarian, but I’m close enough.

On another note, I’m so annoyed with today! Lucy turns 6 months tomorrow and when I adopted her, I had to sign a deferred surgery form. So I called the shelter today to make an appointment. I first tried calling them within the first hour they were open, after explaining my whole long ordeal to the receptionist, she tells me the person I need to talk to isn’t at the shelter yet. She asked me if I wanted to either have them call me back or if I just wanted to call later. I told her that I would just call back later (I had errands to run and didn’t really want to wait around for a phone call). So I called back three hours later and after explaining the same situation to a different receptionist, and this time telling her exactly who I needed to talk to, she told me that I might actually have to talk to a different person then the one I was told before. AND when I called, there was a staff meeting going on. This time I made sure to leave my name and number and have them call me as soon as they got out. So I waited around and they never called me back! How annoying! I really hope they call me back tomorrow. Ugh.

 

I’d also just like to mention that I’ve had communication issues with this shelter before. I know that they’re busy, but I think it’s more of  staff miscommunication problems. I had to drive 45 mins there and back for three days when I was trying to adopt Lucy because of these communication problems.

Fox- I’m not trying to come across as mean, but why do you buy and sell rabbits? Overpopulation is a serious problem that is only perpetuated by intentional breeding/selling.

You’re right.  I don’t agree with it either, but there’s not much I can do.  It’s my parents store, and my job.  But I’d rather be taking the rabbits from farmers who don’t know what they’re doing, and giving them to good homes, than those same farmers using them to keep populating.

I can promise you that(:  I make sure all the rabbits do go to good homes, and won’t sell any of them around easter.  I always make sure the owners know exactly what they’re getting into, and if they ever have any problems to bring it back to me.  I would not ever put a bunny in a bad place, I promise you that.

Hehehehe, Roberta! At least we both have one non-insane bunny! I swear my Terrible Tans would drive any rabbit owner insane. But I love every little hair and bone on their bodies. They are my crazies but they are MY crazies. It’s funny because the boyfriend and I mentioned if we would’ve gotten Simba first we probably never would’ve gotten another rabbit. Simply because he’s fantastic free-roam and we would have never have seen the need for another one if he was completely free-roam. Funny how things work out because I’m happy that didn’t happen. I love my little crazies and really can’t imagine my life without them. Nora on the other hand MAY end up being a loverbun also. She will sit on my lap for a few hours while I’m reading and hang out but GOODNESS does she come with nothing but attitude. She’s always thumping and grunting at everything. Bonding her with the others will be a charm I’m sure. Since she already tried dislocating Sidneys head from her body once. LOL. Oh the joys of a hormonal baby bunny.

I can’t help but giggle as everyone talks about weird stuff.. like beaver butt. I was actually thinking that sounds like something my boyfriend would insist we try. Oyyyyyy. He’s CRAZY into cooking (I’ll post some of his foods) and really does create dishes that look like something you would get at a fancy restaurant. But some of the things I’m like yepp, nope…. thats not going into my mouth. His friends and him are very exotic type eaters though. They love trying new foods and they love cooking new weird interesting things. But it has also made them very “high-class” when it comes to restaurants. His best friends family is directly from Italy and now neither of them will eat Italian food because they think Americans just plain suck at making it. And his best friend also has a girlfriend in China so he’s always going there to visit – so now he thinks Chinese restaurants here are horrifying also. LOL. Which is funny because they’ll both still eat at McDonalds or Wendys. LOL. Makes no sense. But I guess it’s more they expect low end food when they go to a place like that but when they go out for a nice meal there’s no point in going if they could make it better for cheaper. Which is usually the case. We went out to one restaurant a while ago and we paid about $30 for just my steak with nothing else and it was pretty BLAH to what my BF usually makes. So in that case.. he was correct. MB just made me throw in something else though – we do only buy local products like eggs and meat from farms we have checked out (I talked the boy into at least that much!)

MB – I have the same problem! They diagnosed it when I was going through that spell when I was always throwing up but it has sense remained the same even though the throwing up miraculously stopped for some reason – no one knows what it was! Although my doctor did tell me it can take a long time for your B12 to replenish itself but it’s been almost 6 months now. And I still need to take them.

Hazel – Don’t worry, a bunny will pop up! Just keep looking. How far away would you be able to travel to get a bunny? With my blog I’ve been in contact with a ton of different rabbits rescues and shelters. Maybe I can help by sticking out some fingers for you in your area? Only if you want me to of course – if you do, just PM me! I would love to help you. Not to mention, there’s the bunerground railroad. Maybe others would be willing to help transport a bunny you like in your direction! Anyways, would love to help you if interested!

Hmm, Fox’s situation is weird. And different. But I also think unique. If you’re not breeding the rabbits. (If you are, then I’m completely against what you’re doing.) BUT I think it’s actually helping these buns that would most likely be either sold to another breeder or just any home where they will most likely end up in a shelter. Fox, you should have a return policy if they don’t keep the bunny they bring it back to you.

Excited, this weekend I’m finally going home to see my family! I’ve only been home three times since I left two years ago. It’s always exciting to go back and see everyone! The boyfriend isn’t going but rather is staying home with our horde of bunnies! Bringing five bunnies would be fine if they were all bonded but with Nora in her hormonal stage and not bonded, I would prefer to just keep her home. And since the BF is coming, I’ll get to be home Friday-Monday instead of just Saturday and Sunday! WHOO-HOO!

Tanlover, I understand your excitement! I only get to see my family once a year for about a week out of the year! I am going home in July ^-^ I moved two years ago and since I live in Delaware and the rest of my family and friends live in Texas I fly down once a year to visit! Except this round I will be having a wedding and a honeymoon so I won’t really get to see them for very long before having to go back to Delaware. I will probably only have like 2 or 3 days to spend time with them before heading back…and then it will be another year before seeing them

I feel pretty home sick sometimes. I have a twin brother and we used to be incredibly close and now I only get to talk to him on the phone every few months because he has a full time job and goes to school full time as well so he doesn’t have much free time.

I feel pretty homesick sometimes also, NBO. I only moved from NY to Pittsburgh – but it’s so hard to find time to go back and see them. Especially with five bunnies and working between everyones schedules. I used to live with my grandparents back in NY and my older brother is on the other side of NY – in Long Island and he just started working for a law firm sooo I NEVER see him. I haven’t seen him in two years actually… Between working around all of our schedules and when he can come home is just horrible. Before he started working he was in law school and never had free time either which is why it’s been so long. He comes home for Christmas but both Christmas’s we have missed each other. I’m working on trying to find some time to head down to NYC to visit him. But it hasn’t panned out yet. I always feel so bad also because my grandparents are getting older (in their 70s) and they are basically my “parents”, I consider them that anyways as they have taken care of me since I was 15 (I was emancipated when 15 due to living in an abusive household). They took me in and gave me everything, including a normal life. I feel I owe them everything so not being able to see them is very difficult on my conscience sometimes. It’s also difficult because every time I do go back home, my mom always seems to figure it out and I always have to hear from her as she will usually call my grandparents house to try and talk to me. I feel bad they have to deal with her… but it’s whatever. They are my dad’s parents and although my dad is very much normal and okay – he’s never been in my life much after my mom left him because he could never see us (my stepdad – the abusive one – always made that impossible. And somehow I ended up with my grandparents instead of him, they took it upon themselves really. And wanted us with them. But they are very close to my dad so I always see my dad when I go home also. He seems more like an uncle or even a brother to me. LOL. I have such a non-existant father/daughter relationship with him. But I love him anyways. It’s not really his fault my mom did everything she did so I will never hold our weird relationship against him.

On a better note, today is my day off and I’ve done absolutely nothing! LOL. =D My boyfriend wanted me to get some stuff done….. so i suppose I should get off BB and do something. I’ve spent the whole time on BB and working on my blog =P

Yes, you’re not supposed to harass animals there. This includes all the wildlife running/flying free. We do have some resident animals and they definitely don’t want people messing with them. We have signs up everywhere. But we certainly don’t want the wildlife that comes and goes as it pleases to become frightened and not want to return. Sometimes kids just get really worked up though when they are on field trips, so they will start getting rowdy. Perhaps I don’t appear authoritative enough to them. LOL

Wow!!! Roberta I’m so jealous! To the best of my knowledge you can’t even buy it in a pet store here (although I’ve only ever looked for it for dogs), and I know my Mother paid $103 plus tax at the vet’s for her fourteen pound dogs seasons’ treatments last week. I have to go in to get mine, the Yorky will be the same I think, the Shepherd even more. I’d adore buying it off of EBay, going to check but never ran across anything of the sort. But then your EBay is some times really terrific, I get the best prices on gorgeous underwear from an Australian EBay seller, just amazing!

Hi GD, I couldn’t believe it when I found out in the US you have to have a vet prescription to buy a lot of these products.. We are very fortunate in that regard. My regular Pet supplier could not believe the cost, she is actually buying hers online there too as it is less than they were paying wholesale. I believe our Ebay is quite different especially in seller charges. I also by my lingerie from an Australian Ebayer, they have the odd sizes at a reasonable cost.

Simba was of course treated before when he first came into the rescue he was at – but he’s the only one of my buns who has ever had those. All these horror stories with them really scares me, I think I would have a heart attack before giving it to them. I remember a few months back a new member had used …hmmm, is it the Frontline that is really bad? I think it was Frontline (she had used it because on the box it had said it could be used on rabbits – anyone else remember?) and her bunny had passed from it. So incredibly sad. I’m pretty sure I would only feel comfortable letting my vet administer it now. I’m such a baby when it comes to my rabbits… but if I did it myself and something happened, not sure I could forgive myself!

Le sigh. The quartet had a fight last night. They’ve had about one a month since being bonded. I don’t get it. Maybe I need to stress bond Sidney and Simba some more. I know how it starts EVERY time also. Simba or Sidney will do something to annoy the other, which results in Simba thumping. Every time Simba thumps AT her, Sidney will either lunge or chase him. Which makes Fleury go after her because he does not allow anyone (human or rabbit) to mess with his Simber Bun. Simba has never even had the chance to really fight with anyone since Fleury has taken him under his paw because Fleury will jump in front of Simba and defend him. It’s really interesting to me. But anyways, we ran out there and they had stopped before we got out there but not before the whole darn x-pen was in shambles. Every thing was overturned and tipped over and water was EVERYWHERE. Such brats. And of course everyone was panting like crazy. We picked everything up. Made the buns all interact before leaving them alone and went to bed. No more fights. I wonder what happens. It’s happened twice since they’ve been bonded – they always stop on their own. But there’s always fur everywhere. URgh. Darn bunnies!

Aw, well… everyone was cuddled together when I went out there this morning. In a huge bunny pile so there couldn’t have been too many bunny feelings hurt.

tanlover:  I’m sorry to hear your buns had a scrap. Simba can’t just thump at Sidney though, she’s a lady after all! Giving those two some extra bonding time might be a good idea, like you said. Hopefully things will smooth out with time.

Also, thank you very much for offering your help! If we don’t hear anything from them in a reasonable amount of time, I might just take you up on that. Although right now I’m having my doubts about getting one. Lily managed to eat one of my hair ties this morning. I dropped it without noticing and while I was gone for 15 seconds she found it and ate the whole thing. It was a stupid mistake on my part. She takes so much of our attention (and still, I messed up today), she’s kind of like a special needs child, in pet form. Maybe it’s just not the right time to get a new pet.

Helo gets his cast off tomorrow! I’m so excited

Tanlover – Sorry to hear about your bunny scuffle.

My bonded pair had a little fight for the first time since they were bonded (a year and a half ago) when Helo escaped his old pen (when he hurt his foot) and they went back to normal almost immediately after Helo was removed. They also hate having Monty so close to their territory right now but no fights. I never stress bonded them (they bonded in 18 days). I wonder if it would be a good idea to reinforce their bond before I start meddling and trying to add Monty to the mix.

I sorta think it may have been our fault – we were cuddling Simba on the couch in my lap and then my BF went and got Nora and was cuddling her. They could see each other but not interact. So it easily could have been that.

tanlover – It sounds like they just rub each other the wrong way. They tolerate each other for the most part until one sets the other off. Is there any pattern to it at all? Same time of day? Whenever food is around?

Wow, I’m super tired. I don’t think it’s normal for me to be this tired, but it’s been this way for quite some time now. I’ve been taking vit D supplements (doctor told me to) and it doesn’t really help.

I finally got a hold of the shelter and made an appointment for Lucy’s spay. It was either rush over to the shelter today and have her spayed tomorrow, or wait until next Wednesday. Obviously I picked next Wednesday  haha. They want to keep her over night to make sure she’s okay, so I don’t get to pick her up until after 11am on Thursday. I can’t believe my baby girl is already 6 months!

I emailed the rescue where I got Loki and the girls from about bringing Loki up to meet some other bunnies and see if I can find him a bunny buddy… I got an email back today saying “Yes! Bring him up!” The lady knows that any bunny that comes into this house is going to be spoilt rotten! I’ll let you all know when I go up (hopefully next weekend!)

jerseygirl: Thank you. You’re right, a normal cat probably wouldn’t have done that. Lily has Pica, which means she wants to eat anything and everything that’s small enough to fit down her throat, weather it’s edible or not. We’ll just have to wait for her to pass it. I read that canned pumpkin can help move things along in this kind of situation, but she also suffers from food allergies and IBS. We don’t know how her body would react to the pumpkin, it might just make things worse rather than better. So we’ll just wait, making sure she keeps eating and using her litter box. So far she’s doing well.

It’s always late at night that they decide to argue it seems – unless they just do it when we’re not home also. But I think we could tell because they always yank out fur. It could definitely be Nora – not too worried right now as the Sims and Sid are both cuddled up next to each other as we speak. And last night my BF sent me a picture of them cuddling more after dinner time. SO whatever set them off on each other must be okay now.

I am so glad I am done with all my surgeries! I was such a worried momma! When I went to work after Sally was spayed I had to text my husband every hour to ask how Sally was doing. I was so pathetic. She healed up nicely even though they didn’t give her any pain meds to take home All they gave her was a slow release pain shot to get her past the first 36 hours. But she did so great! I am sure Lucy and Nora will do grand!

 Ella K thanks! Lol. I had only got about three hours each night last week because I was studying.  I was tired I had missplaced my car keys in the fridge and didn’t make it to a class because I couldn’t find them.  It’s just a classic me thing.  Hahaha.

 

LBJ every where I’ve applied they think that I can’t handle stress, multi-task, do things quickly, or handle a register.  I’ve tutored people on a dialy basis on how to do Statistics, College Algebra, and reworked people’s English papers. But for some reason they think that I can’t work a register.  And the waitressing jobs I applied for complain that I’m too short.  Sadly, the couple of pet stores I’ve applied for don’t like me because I’ve corrected them on their animal care.  Especially, concerning their rabbit care. For some reason they don’t like my in put. You think that since I know so much they would want me as an employee. I’ve tried applying for turoting places that are local but they want teacher certified workers.  I’m not there yet. I have a few more years to go before I’m there and I need a job to help me pay for that schooling.  Lol. The conundrums of life. I’m telling you. 

 

TL totally ditto on the phone app!!!! BB needs one sooooo bad. Congrats on being able to go!!!! I’m totally jealous.  I’ve been sooooo homesick but I don’t have the money to go this year to go back home. So I made the bf swear we’ll go next year. I’ll bet you’ll be great for Nora’s spay!

Skipper’s Mama: No worries, I don’t mind you asking at all.

We got her from a breeder at three months old, there wasn’t any abuse as far as we know and there was no reason to suspect any. Being a Siamese, she’s part of the Oriental cats who are unfortunately prone to exhibit behaviours such as chewing things or sucking clothes. So Orientals with Pica aren’t all that uncommon, it’s just a trait of their breed taken to the extreme. Lily sucks her tail, also. Getting smacked in the face with a nasty wet tail gets old quick.

I’m sorry you’re not having much luck with your job search. All the reasons they gave you sound pretty silly. I guess the pet store didn’t want your input because it would mean more work and expense for them to properly care for the animals.

I’m sure you’ll find something soon.

You can’t handle a cash register? At my retail job, they hire just about anyone regardless of cash-handling experience. I remember a seasonal person this last Christmas. She worked at an insurance company and had never worked a cash register in her life. They still gave her the job. But maybe places aren’t as desperate where you are. LOL

I can totally see the pet store thing. You go in there talking about rabbits and they are going to think you’re “trouble” right off the bat. They usually don’t want to bother with taking proper care of the animals, they just want to make money. Why hire someone who is going to be an “annoyance” in that regard?

It seems you’re having the same problem I’m having. You are experienced enough where people looking for an intern aren’t going to want you, but you haven’t completed your schooling yet so nobody wants to hire you for a “real” job. I have been dealing with this for the last year. If it’s an internship, it’s always the same story (they don’t want a grad student or I am supposedly overqualified). If it’s a real job, then I don’t have any real experience ( a lot of these jobs want several years) or I’m lacking the appropriate degree (I haven’t finished yet).

Hazel thanks! And that is totally interesting! I had no clue that Oriental cats did that. I’ve always had mutt cats that adopted us and never a Siamese. I wonder what makes them exhibit those traits. Is it sort of along the lines of what has happened to Dalmatians? Has there been too much inbreeding with them that has caused the trait to surface even more?

LBJ I don’t get either. xD I can give you change back in my head with out having to look at a comp. I wish the job market was desperate here. Florida sucks when it comes to getting a job. You need to know someone in order to get a position. I’m a pretty shy person when I don’t know you so I don’t know many people. Which makes it hard. I understand your frustration! Wedding dilemma has finally surfaced. I already told my friends who were bridesmaids but now my husband thinks that since my brother is going to be a groomsmen that his sisters should be a bridesmaid. Well now it’s going to be awkward cutting two bridesmaids! The only reason why my brother is a groomsmen is because my husband doesn’t hv many male friends so my brother is just to even things out. And I guess it’ll make sense to ave his two sisters be a bridesmaid and my two brothers be a groomsmen. I just wish he had told me this before I told my friends who were going to be in the wedding! How do I do this without hurting people’s feelings?!

The other is our first dance song. He wants can’t help falling in love- Elvis Presley and I want one and only by teitur. I love his song it’s just that I hear that song everyday at work at least three times by different artists. It’s just too common and overplayed/over heard. Gah! And the other song has a lot of meaning because my husband was the first guy I ever dated and fell in love with he is basically my one and only. I can sacrifice the song I guess. I mean it is just a song but if I’m sacrificing my bridesmaids he can sacrifice the song lol

I’m soo pathetic. I missed my buns so freaking much! I was gone for only two days. LOL. And on Friday night I felt like such an overprotective momma but I kept messaging the boyfriend to make sure he was doing everything right for them! Hahaha, he totally takes care of them all the time and loves them just as much as I do so I don’t know why I was so worried.

Skipper’s Mama: Yes, it’s bad breeding. Cats are mostly bred for looks, to win shows. A lot of breeders just don’t care about much else. We thought we picked a good one but sadly it turned out we were wrong. She knew beforehand that Lily’s dad had food allergies but bred him anyway because he’s the son of one of her most successful studs. He sired three litters and in each one there were kittens that inherited allergies or IBS, Lily being one of them. She stopped using him after that but of course that doesn’t help us any. We did make a mistake picking that breeder, but in a way I’m glad we did, because there’s a good chance Lily wouldn’t have made it this far, otherwise. We already almost lost her once.

NBO: If you’re uncomfortable breaking the news to your two friends, why don’t you have your husband do it? If he wants them off the team, he should be the one to tell them.

I’ve just about had it with my dog, Abbie’s, fur! It mats so easily I have to brush her multiple times a day. I’ve never seen a dog with this type of fur except on puppy Pomeranians. Abbie used to have short, silky fur and since she turned a year and a half old her fur is slowly turning into like a cotton, wool type. Right now it’s on her legs and feet but I can see it coming in on her ribs too. It’s incredibly soft and ppl comment about it all the time but it’s hard for her to even play in the grass without it getting caught and tangled in that fur! If she even licks herself it will mat! It’s getting more and more fluffy each year. I’m thinking about shaving it off even though it makes her so pretty and unique. I will show you a few pics of her slow transformation from silky short to fluffy long! It has me so perplexed!

Ok, the first two are her at 8 weeks and 6 months. 

And the bottom three are at 1 year, 2 years, and then she is about to hit her 4th year in the last pic. She has gotten so FLUFFY! I hope it doesn’t creep up her sides like it’s looking like! This dog has changed so much in her lifetime!

NBO – What’s wrong with having an uneven bridal party? Of course we went the simple route and had one and one. LOL But if you have more bridesmaids than groomsmen, it isn’t the end of the world. Two bridesmaids can walk down together or you can throw the walking in pairs thing out the window and have them enter single file. I’m all for non-traditional though.

Skipper’s Mama – Yeah, limbo does suck. I’m somewhere I can get a little bit of experience now. Unfortunately, it probably wouldn’t be practical long-term (doesn’t pay well). I’m afraid I will be facing the same dilemma here again soon. The experience I am getting may not be the right kind for all I know. *sigh* I’m surprised it is so difficult to get a retail job there. There is tons and tons of shopping in Florida. I guess if you had a specific type of retail job in mind though, it might be difficult. =\

Is Abbie spayed? A friend of mine breeds Irish Setters and I’ve discovered that quite a few breeds once spayed or neutered get fluffy hair instead of the lovely silky coats that are seen in entire animals in the show rings etc. I know Darcy my cocker spaniel gets really fluffy when I don’t clip him every three or four months.

Oh yes she got spayed around 6 months of age. She is dachshund and chihuahua mix! I guess that’s what it is! It’s getting thicker and fluffier every year. And slowly consuming the rest of her body. I spent on hour brushing out grass from her legs and between her toes.

I guess for the wedding single file could work. It just would look wacky with 4 bridesmaids and two groomsmen. But I talked to my husband and he says its ok he was just throwing the idea out there. To make his sisters feel more apart of the wedding I was going to have one do my make up and have her boyfriend take pictures because she is so talented at it and have his other sister’s daughter be our flower girl

NBO Abby is such a cutie! And I’m glad you and your fiancé can talk things out. =] I don’t understand how you’re not going crazy with wedding plans! The bf has broached the topic of marriage with me and hinted at getting engaged soon but I had politely turn him down mainly because we can’t decide on what type of wedding to have (bigvs.small) and because I couldn’t handle the stress of planning while working/going to school.

LBJ you would think that we would have a bunch of retail but I sadly live in what I consider to be redneckville. -.- But if I’m completely honest it’s more or less an extremely rural area. I live about an hour and a half north of Tampa and you would think that it would be urbanized. But all you have to do is hop onto the nearest freeway and take it out about ten minutes and you’ll be slammed by rural areas which is what mainly makes up the northern Florida area that I’m in. =p

So since the bf and I moved last October we haven’t had a garden. But since I’m not working I’m working on building plans for a raised garden bed. =] We’re renting the place from my mom but she’s letting me have creative freedom when it comes to the care of the place. I just have to make sure I send her the plans first. I complained about having a massive out break of scorpions about a month or so ago to her and jokingly said that the bf and I wanted to get chickens to help control it. She completely okayed it and said to just tell her where the chicken coop was going and home much of the backyard was being demolished. xD I was completely stunned and we’re not going to have chickens because we have a huge population of bears, foxes, and coyotes near us. But it cracked me up that she was fine with it. =p

Skipper, we are actually already married. We are finally having the wedding though after 2 years. We had to move for military and my in-laws have helped me out so much with the wedding planning. I am forever greatful for their help! phew!

So I having this terrible dilemma with me and my health. I have this issue with my weight. I CANNOT for the life of me gain any weight. And in my frustrations and people being very hateful of my weight have turned to fast food and junk food for the past 7 or so years trying to gain weight. Sadly, they all failed. I am still the same weight I have always been. I don’t go to gyms anymore, even though I used to enjoy being active, because I worry people are judging me that I am there when I am already underweight. It is very hurtful hearing people and even my family commenting on how I’m too skinny and such and I have turned to this horrible, nasty lifestyle of eating just junk. Needless to say, my terrible diet has made my mood also terrible. I feel terrible. I want to start eating healthy and I want to rid all the toxins that I am sure I have considering I have eaten fast food 2-3 times a day the past 5 or 6 years. I am just so terrified that if I start eating healthy, I will lose weight! I mean, I don’t gain weight eating all those fattening foods I could only imagine what will happen if I start eating healthy, non fattening foods. I have actually LOST weight on this fast food diet. I used to be on birth control to help with an hormonal balance and I gained to 127lbs but the insurance quit covering it and I refused to pay 150 for birth control. Anyhoo, I quit and within a month a went straight back down to my normal weight of 107. and it just stays there…no matter what!
I want to do a 7 day juice detox. It’s basically you juicing veggies and fruits to detox your body of all the toxins built up from foods. I want to do that, and then eat really healthy. I KNOW that if I eat great, I will start to feel great. I am 5’7 and my goal has always been to get to 130lbs.

My main question is, is there a natural thing I can add to my detox juice to help keep weight on? I know I am bound to lose a little weight because those are my toxins leaving my body but I don’t want to scoop too low where it will be difficult gaining it back. Also, don’t say you wish you had this issue… because it really is a struggle for me and it’s hard to find REAL help because people just start saying, “I wish I had your problem” instead of helping me once again they sit there and be selfish and walk away. I need help. My docs say I am healthy despite my terrible diet and my underweight.

I was so excited to start being healthy until my husband was like, “you’re going to lose weight…” then I was like, crap! So I need to find something to help me at least a little! lol

Oh and I meant to say that I am just going to accept my body and not try to gain weight anymore. and just focus on being healthy. But I don’t want to LOSE any weight. Which is why I want to get on the path of a healthy diet but I am too afraid to lose weight.

Hmmmm….NBO this is the exact same problem that my friend has! She has a fast metabolism and an enlarged thyroid. Have you talked to someone about herbal/vitamin supplements? I can’t remember what it is off the top of my head. But I know that there are a good couple of vitamins/herbs that you can take that help with weight maintenance and gaining. (And sorry I thought that I remembered that you and your hubby were married already but I wasn’t 100% sure.)

I have looked into something called Advocare? They have a 10 day herbal detox thing. I wasn’t sure if this was an all organic thing or not. I am trying to go on a raw type food diet. I want to be healthy so bad. I am so tired of heating all these processed and fattening foods it makes me feel gross. I know if I go to a more organic, healthy diet I will be much happier.

Have you heard anything good about the Advocare herbal detox?

And I so totally feel you about being underweight. For more than 10 years straight, I was at 100lbs, couldn’t gain an ounce it seemed. It’s only within the last couple years that I have finally achieved my ideal weight.

Try having a protein shake or 3 a day, as well as regular meals. It may help! I wouldn’t do a 7 day juice detox, especially if you’re that underweight. It could cause more problems than it would fix. Just eat healthy meals every day, with some protein shakes. And ask your doctor about what more you can do to help.

And I’m not trying to gain weight anymore… I just want to rid of all these toxins I have built up in my system from such a poor diet. I’m not going to fast…if that’s what you were thinking. I was just going to have juice for breakfast and in between my healthy meals. I guess I should have said a 7 day MODIFIED detox. As in I still eat food. Just smaller portions while my body is working on ridding the toxins.
I would also like to clarify that my doctor is NOT concerned about my weight. She actually says I am fine. She was concerned on the very 1st visit but after she had tests done she says that some people are just naturally this way and no longer concerned about it despite the BMI index thing online. So I’m trying my best to accept me for who I am which is why I have been wanting to go on a more healthy route. Just the other day someone said I weighed 90lbs and I USUALLY get upset and go home crying to my husband but it didn’t bother me as much. So I’m getting a little better about being so self conscious about it Which I am proud of.
Anyhoo, I’m done battling with weight gain…I just want to be healthy! So regardless, I will be going on a diet. But not to lose weight, or gain weight, but to be a healthy person.
I also found out like an hour ago that one of my bridesmaids won’t be able to come! She enlisted in the military awhile back and she was just waiting and was just informed she will ship to basic the first week of June. So I can just pull one of my husbands sisters up there. That way 1 of the 2 brothers I have will be a groomsman and 1 of the 2 sisters he has will be a bridesmaid. So it evens out quite well and no one gets hurt. Wow, talk about god opening doors! I am not upset about my friend not making it because she has a huge journey ahead of her and I support it all the way, and very proud! I AM SO EXCITED NOW!

Just got back from the store. Instead of getting white bread I got wheat. Same with the pastas. I got lots of fresh fruits and veggies instead of getting the canned goods Instead of getting the sugary cereals and the snack cakes I got the healthy grained cereal! woo-hoo! . NBO – I don’t think there is anything wrong with single file. I have seen it done numerous times. For my wedding, since we just had the two people (best man and maid of honor), they walked in separately to make the opening ceremony a little more substantial looking. My parents and his parents actually walked in together first. Then the best man, then the maid of honor, then the flower girl, and then me. It worked just fine.

I saw the coolest raised garden once that used recycled tires. They painted the tires too. It was really neat looking. =)

Well I had an interesting day. It was warm and all the animals must have been feeling frisky. We saw a garter snake this morning. It was very brightly colored, I was surprised it had so much red on it. I guess it was a red-sided garter snake. Feisty too! He wanted to bite me. This afternoon we saw a lizard. Looked like a skink. I will need to look that one up. I’m not used to seeing lizards around here.

This morning I woke up and, as usual, the blue jay was sitting outside my window. Shortly after his friend flew by and landed next to him and gave him a worm and then flew off. It was so sweet! I didn’t realize adult birds fed each other! Maybe she is guarding a nest so her mate was feeding her too or something. I’m not sure but I love seeing them every morning. Blue Jays are gorgeous.

NBO, I def think eating healthy purely to feel healthy is the way to go. And not think about weight- especially if its been an emotional issue in the past. The emotions & stress alone surrounding that can prevent weight gain. So I love your plan of keeping it simple and just eating healthy to feel good.

I’m pretty sporadic in my eating habits but so badly want what good nutrition will give me. Lol. Im just lazy. It’s a viscious cycle: bad diet=low energy & motivation. That in turn makes more difficult to make the changes. Especially when it’s easy to gravitate toward bad food when feeling crappy about the whole thing. Yar. I know it.

I don’t gain weight easily and neither do several of my siblings. I guess that makes it easier to see that it’s more to do with genetics for us. The most i ever gained at once was about 18lbs and that was due to side effect of a medication. It felt weird tbh. It came right off again after and i levelled at the weight ive always been for years.

I know people don’t always understand that weight gain for some can be as problematic as weightloss is for the majority.

Re diet, I think just the transitioning from less junk to more whole foods will do a lot of natural detoxing. You will likely go thru some withdrawals though unfortunately.
Sugars the kicker for me. I get bad cravings for sugar in the evenings.
I’ve heard chromium is supposed to help with that.

Anyway, I’ll ask my sister for some tips of healthy eating for you (and me too!!) She and her family are right into it.

@SkipperMama, I think the height thing is silly. You have arms, legs, a brain. What’s their problem?! But i know, I know… They have a look or something they’re going for. I suppose one issue would be handling those giant 1metre pepper grinders some restaurants favour. :p. crazy things, the peppercorns in them are still same size so why not leave a standard size grinder with the diners? These are important questions we must know the answers to!

Caroline – Keep your head up and know that she will be okay! And this is a huge step for her and her life of healthiness! =)

NBO – That’s horrible. Sometimes living a healthy lifestyle does not mean losing weight, for instance.. you should start working out again! It will make you feel healthy and you will build some muscle. Building muscle will help you look more toned, rather than just plain skinny. It may help you feel better about yourself weight wise and whatnot! It really is annoying though… I can’t imagine having to put up with it forever. At one point when I was sick – I lost a lot of weight. I was 148 and I started throwing up (not on purpose, something in my body was triggering it) and I got down to 111. Now I’m 120ish. (Which is my ideal weight) But everyone kept trying to shove cheeseburgers down my throat and made comments whenever I would eat salad or work out. I just wanted to punch them all. For one, I LOVEEE salad and I love to run. So I was really perturbed at everyone. Especially when they were like “you’re skinny enough…”. Just because you want to eat healthy and work out DOES NOT mean you’re trying to lose weight… LOL. Now that I’m back to 120 people aren’t saying it anymore… but boy was it annoying for that time period! And everyone was telling me how I looked too skinny.. and blah. I was like I CAN’T HELP IT. Go worry about your own weight.

I’m so happy right now… Nora has finally stopped being so nervous. She’s okay with being held and sitting on your lap while you pet her without her nerves driving her insane. And she’s become a lot more curious! So proud of how well she is doing since she first came home with us!

I’m dropping Lu off in a few hours, but I thought I’d share what happened this morning. It’s official, Lucy is super bunny. This morning when I went to feed her, I took off the top of the cage to get some veggie. When I returned 10 seconds later, she is trying to jump out of her cage, and actually makes it over. Her current set up is just 2 NIC cubes high. I eventually want to move her into a pen, but it’ll have to be one really tall pen.

We had a run in with one today, too. Hubby was carrying a box outside, I came out behind him and there was a HUGE Garter snake wrapped around the railing, just about a foot away from both of us. Hubby didn’t see it, I screamed “HOLY $!#%!!!” Hubby: “ah, what..?” me: “SNAAAKE!!!”

A second later I felt stupid, when the poor harmless snake dropped himself to the ground and scurried away (under the house). In my defense, he was very big for a Garter snake, he must have been eating well.

 

Caroline: Good luck with the spay! I’m sure she’ll do great!
