It’s April, woo hoo!
Happy April fools day everybody! ![]()
![]()
April 1st! You know what that means? My April Fool is a year old! He’s an adult!
And what did we do for his birthday? Go to the vet! lol His birthday present is that he didn’t have to have the cast put back on.. he’s just on moving-restriction for a little while. He’ll get a play yard and some treats later though.. he was a good boy.
Happy April!
The best April Fool’s joke I’ve had played on my was years ago by one of the other managers (he used to get me every year). I walked into my office and there was a can of corn sitting on my desk. I thought WTH and picked it up. Marbles went everywhere (he had cut the bottom out of the can and filled it with marbles). The next year, same thing, I walk in my office and find the can sitting there, bottom up and open and filled with marbles. I thought “cool, he’s giving it to me to play on someone else!”. I pick it up, and again marbles go everywhere (top and bottom cut out this time). I felt like such a fool for being “gotten” two years in a row! He also took clear fishing wire and tied everything in my office together one year, rigged a “mouse” to run across my ceiling one year when we’d had a mouse problem in the building another year. Always clean funny pranks and only on April 1. He also taught me to play tennis in our parking lot after work, and would bring me challenging mind puzzles. He was in his early 70’s and passed away not too many years after he played the last April Fool’s prank. I think about him on April 1 every year and really miss him.
JR— I gotta go buy some marbles now! lol
The only prank I’ve done today is putting hot sauce and salt into my little sister’s kool-aid. I also hid some tea bags into the coffee grounds into the coffee pot. My dad and brother LOVE their coffee and HATE when it’s messed with or we don’t buy the right brand. MWA HA HA HA. And I also might switch the sugar for salt. Double whammy! LOL!
(And this following is NOT a prank)
I hate to bring the mood down but last night we found out one of my friends’ mother died from her Cancer last night. So keep her family in your thoughts/prayers. I know it’s hard on their family especially so close to Easter. ![]()
I’m sorry about your friend’s mother, Moxie.
Congratulations to Peter on his first birthday!
Moxie – So sorry to hear about your friend. Sending lots of vibes their way.
I love the marble prank! Especially since he upped the ante on the second time around! lol
I don’t have any pranks lined up for today; though the hubby is happily pranking his parents.
I just hope the bunnies don’t find out that today is prank day!
Happy April Fool’s Day everyone!
A couple of years ago the hubby pretended to have a heart attack for April Fool’s. Needless to say, I didn’t think it was funny… So now I just try to ignore the first of April, I don’t want to encourage him.
Moxie, I’m sorry about your friend’s mother, that’s so sad.
Sorry about your friend’s mother. Sending hugs their way.
For April Fool’s I’m thinking about texting my hubby and telling him that I just adopted 2 more bunnies . . . but then he might not come home tonight . . . but then I’d have room for more bunnies . . .
The hubby convinced his mother that we took in a baby pig, but couldn’t keep it at the apartment. He was trying to get her to say that she would take the pig and meet us half-way… even offered to pay for gas and help put up a fence! lol
I don’t really do April fools but one of my guy friends came to mine before school today and told me he was pregnant with my baby, ha ha ha! That gave me a giggle
So sorry to hear about your friends mother MM, I’ll keep her in my thoughts.
I love that marbles idea!!
My friend was getting married in the summer and was really trying to budget. So of course I played a prank on her. I called her on her work line and said I was called from Visa to confirm some large purchases that had been made on her account. She freaked!! lol!!
Happy April Fool’s day everyone!
I love hearing about all of the great pranks! I use to try pranks on April 1, but since joining law school I found out that every other student is a grinch and thus reports every small prank to the administration (not me luckily but a close friend got in a bit of trouble). But prank away, I have been debating on a way to prank Ms. Lilith but alas, she’s too smart for me! Darn Bunnys ![]()
Law Bun — we have a bunch of whiners like that at work now. When you work in or study a high stress area, people need to lighten up and have a good laugh every now and then. I don’t agree with cruel pranks or anything where anyone or anything gets hurt, but clean fun things are fine.
Just in case anyoe worried, we were sure to pick up every marble! After I posted, I looked through my office — I still have the can and marbles! I have it sitting on my desk today and it makes me smile every time I look at it — makes me laugh at myself for falling for it the 2nd year and makes me think of my old friend.
I am one of those no nonsense kind of people, and I can’t STAND this day. Apparently I am my father’s daughter, through and through. My husband learned very early in our marriage that it was in his best interest to leave his foolish pranks to people who like to reciprocate, like his grandmother. DO. NOT. MESS. WITH. ME. I do not think you will be happy paying the consequences, and I don’t do “pranks”.
Lighten up? You’d be lucky if you were able to walk away.
Manic — I can totally appreciate and respect that. But c’mon, you have to at least be able to laugh with other people about stuff done to *them* that *they* themselves thought were funny. I rarely do pranks to anyone and would never do one to someone I wasn’t positive would appreciate the humor, but the ones my friend got me with were funny. Knowing that I would never prank you, go ahead and laugh at my marbles!
My sister is really gullable. When we got Elvis, I texted her that we had gotten 4 hamsters, one for each cat to play with. After about 10 minutes of talking, she FINALLY realized I was kidding lol. She and I are constantly tormenting each other with weird stuff (like barbie heads hanging in the back window of her car lol)
I saw the April photo thread and thought “why does it say April? Its still March. Oh. Wait.” ![]()
I think one of the “meanest” pranks I’ve played was I took some (dryish) mud and molded it to look like my small dog’s poop. I then proceeded to put it on my older sister’s bed (who has never been very fond of my dog) lol. I think I’m going to do something like that again today. ![]()
Thanks everybody for the kind wishes/vibes/thoughts for my friend’s family. ![]()
I’m kind of glad I don’t work on Wednesdays. They are all kind of mean there. LOL
JR your marble story is hilarious and also very touching! What a cool way to remember your friend. Um…also pretty sure I like the 2 more bunnies idea. I read that one to hubby!
CT-what did your mother in law say?? Was she going to do it?
Thinking of your friend’s family MM!
Working in a prison, I was definitely on edge all day! I didn’t get pranked though!
i don’t do April Fools jokes.
MoxieMeadows I’m sorry to hear about your mom’s friend i’ll keep your mom and her friend’s family in my prayers.
Good news for my 16 year old, 99% sure she has her first job!! I’m proud of her, the first thing she did before starting the interview was informed them that she has type 1 diabetes and wears and insulin pump and CGM (continuous glucose monitor). They called her back for a second interview. That was today and basically wanted to know about her diabetes, what she does if her BS drops low that kind of stuff. They were totally fine with it, and told her to never put the job in front of her health, that if she needed to deal with her diabetes to do that. They’re supposed to call within the next 2 days to let her know the day and time for training.
Bestmom that is so cool! Happy for your daughter!!!
Well folks, tonight is the night…Hubby just shampooed the carpet that goes in Pumpkin’s Condo, currently washing the blankets off her shelf, and wiping down everything else. Making it as neutral as possible b/c I plan to let them spend the night together (I’m going to sleep on the couch). Fingers, toes, and ears crossed!!!
Moxie you’re mean. EWWW!! When I was a kid, though not April, my brother had some melted butterscotch chips (for Christmas cookies) He wiped some on my PJ’s and told me it was dog doo. Who knows where I thought he’d get that, but I FREAKED out!!! Totally gullible and still am!
The first puzzle my April Fool’s friend gave me to try was pretty cool so since I shared his pranks, I thought I’d share this too……Place checkers on a checker board so that there is only one checker in any row, column, and diagonal.
I got the bunnies a couple of brain teaser puzzles. They figured one out right away. The other one may be too big or heavy but its a wooden box with 4 treat drawers and you have to pull on the ropes attached to the drawers to pull them out and get the treat. Kieko is the only one who tried pulling on the rope. Marlee decided the best way to get the treat was to have me do the puzzle and hand her the treat. She went back and forth, head butting the puzzle then head butting me. After 3 back and forth head buttings, she just gave me the bunny butt!
JR— Moxie would not have the patience for one of those brain teaser puzzles! lol! ![]()
I asked my friend today if I could borrow some bunny food. She showed up with a 50lb bag!! She said she wasn’t sure how to measure for 10 bunnies so she got the giant bag lol. ![]()
Jr–your friend sounds like a typical old man w/ his brain teasers. My dad was like that.
gonna be a big storm here tonight–it might be good for the bunnies sharing a space!
Moxie — hubby was standing there talking for Marlee saying “Yooouuu do it!!” Moshi tried chinning it to get the drawers to open then decided chewing his way in was the way to go. Little Kieko tried pulling on the rope and then decided flinging the whole thing would work but it was too heavy to fling far enough to make the drawers open so she resorted to Moshi’s method. It was funny to watch.
I’m sure it was JR! ![]()
Moshi made a right turn into Kieko’s room on his way back to his room tonight. Kieko freaked out but Moshi didn’t seem to care about her until hubby tried to shoo Moshi out and he but the crap out of hubby’s foot. The only other time Moshi has ever bitten was when he bit hubby when we first introduced the buns. Don’t guess anyone’s ready for another bonding attempt.
Those puzzles don’t take Leopold very long. He’s such a smart bunny. He was being so cute earlier too. I guess he was warm because he was lying stretched out on the floor by the vent. I was petting him and he didn’t even bother to move.
Hey guess what everyone! JR’s son is getting married so he can qualify for financial aid! =D
LBJ, I LOVE when they let me pet them all stretched out! Doesn’t happen very often.
I know LLH! He barely sits still long enough to pet because he’s normally looking for treats. LOL
I can’t find the charger! AGH! So I never charged the batteries in the camera. Leopold and Wooly are both warm. They were both flopped out right up against one another (probably not a good idea if you’re hot). I just about squealed in delight because Wooly actually had his eyes closed and his little mouth was kind of drooping a little bit. He looked so peaceful, I just wanted to squeeze him!
LBJ — April Fools! For about 2 seconds I thought you knew something I didn’t know! LOL! But Moxie is isn’t old enough yet and is way too wise so I doubt he’ll be getting any financial aid windfalls any time soon!
LOL JR, how do you know I don’t know something? Hehehehe!
Seriously though, that was how I qualified. =\
It’s raining pretty good here right now. You know, after it was 85 degrees today. Being that it’s just the beginning of April, I can understand why the buns are acting like they are dying. Silly rabbits, they have no clue what warm actually means.
Hellloooo everyone! I’ve been away a few weeks, sorry about that. How are we all?
Are people getting some chocolate eggs this weekend? My cousins and I always do an easter egg hunt round the house and garden (even now the youngest of us is 20 – lol!)
It is SO windy here the last couple of days. But now the clocks have gone forwards, its light in the evenings which is really nice. ![]()
The bunnies survived the night! And I survived on the couch (barely). I slept with my glasses on and had a flashlight at the ready to check on them in a hurry. Heard a few loud noises but when I would look all seemed fine. I think the flashlight distracted them. I literally slept with a little flashlight in my hand!!
I don’t think I’ll leave them in there while I’m at work…I’ll be gone almost 11 hours today! But thinking of moving them to a different area so one bun doesn’t claim the condo.
It was 82 here yesterday too! Then we had a HUGE storm which is good cuz we needed the rain!
LBJ & JR— LOL.
Tessie, I was thinking about you, I was wondering where you were!
LLH— Yay! I’m glad it went well!!
Where’s AH?
Question: I wanna get Elvis a hamster bath/dust. Does he have to have a special bath container or could I just use a round dish? Thanks!
LLH- Mother in law was fooled but trying to convince us to find someone else to take it because she didn’t want to deal with a pig! The hubby was really laying it on thick, too, and giving her a real guilt trip about it. He finally let her hear the “cute/pitiful” little sound it makes and went “OINK OINK Im a pig! April Fools!” and burst out laughing. She got a good laugh out of it once she realized she wasn’t going to be stuck with another animal one of her children rescued. lol
I am in the land of bouncy bunnies this morning.
Tilly got to spend time with HER daddy before he went to work, and Pete FINALLY got some floor time after his vet check-up. BINKIES ALL OVER THE APARTMENT! Little does he know that when I go to the store he’s going back in his cage until I get home. Such and evil mommy.
Cottontail— That’s too funny!
Cottontail probably thought ” Free at last!” He probably wont like going back to his cage. hehe
BM I wish I could answer your question. Maybe try a round dish it cant hurt I guess.
BM— I honestly do not know, but I don’t think it’d really matter? Maybe try to PM LEL if she doesn’t pop on soon… ![]()
So I entered a drawing to win some baby chicks and supplies. I probably won’t win though. I’m excited that my chicks are coming soon, though! Will have to start thinking of some chicken names. 5 girl names and 1 boy name. I was thinking maybe Rhett for the rooster…![]()
This is how the Rooster (breed) will look when he’s all grown up! ![]()

No no Moxie, he should be called Harvey. Yep, Harvey Birdman! Bwahahahahahaha!
I’ve got Zoey-500s going on, with Pete bouncing around the living room… Tilly is just quietly eating her salad and taking breaks to wash her face… Apparently she’s having none of the silliness until her daddy gets home.. I’m sure she’ll be glued to him.
My brain is scattered with so many things that are on my to-do-list that I just made to-do lists for the next 5 days… And what’s the first thing I do? Something that was on tomorrow’s list… so then I got to re-arrange today and tomorrow and finally realized that I should have been starting dinner already. Blaaaaaaarg!
This has been my mini-brain explosion. Thank you! ![]()
CT it sounds like your apt. is the fun place to be today!! I’m a total list maker, it always makes me feel better when I’m overwhelmed. So Tilly is a daddy’s girl too? Pumpkin looooves her daddy, probably b/c he’s always telling her how pretty she is, lol.
Moxie I’m excited for your chickens!!! I think you should name one Alice in honor of the girl bunny AH will never get ![]()
I want to name the rooster Benedict. ![]()
I don’t know how long registration was down, but I can’t keep up with all the new members! I had no idea so many people were lurking on BB.
I know JR! How fun–so many cute babies to look at!
Pumpkin is SO happy. She has been flopping like crazy. When she’s not flopped, she’s laying w/ her face schmooshed to the ground. I just saw her chinning Rocky’s head!
Moxie… what a fabulous looking Roo! I’d name him….. Alfred Hitchcock. (sorry, couldn’t help myself)
Come to think of it.. I haven’t seen the “potential members looking” go up from zero in a couple months.. so maybe that is/was a side-effect of registration being down?
LLH- so happy to hear about PumpRock doing well!
And let the rooster-naming begin! ![]()
There have been a flood of new member posts since registration has been up. I guess there were a lot of people anxious to register and join the BB family. =D
LLH — I keep meaning to tell you that your bridge bunny Boston was a beautiful bun. I love broken colored bunnies and especially the “mustache” look.
I totally forgot it was a new month and was wondering why the chat thread was so quiet! Ha. Happy April, everyone!!
LOL, Nora, yep and we’re already 3 pages in.
Lol! Alfred Hitchcock! I’m a bit of a fan of his
For the rooster I like….Rodger or Checkers for some reason.
Moxie, Has any one suggested Cogburn for the Rooster ? Think John Wayne and True Grit.
Cottontail and JR, your April Fool’s pranks made me laugh =)
Aw thanks JR…Boston was such a special sweetheart. We got her as a baby and she was super loving and affectionate. She literally groomed us non-stop when we let her!
CT I love your prank! I could never do it though, I’m a terrible liar and I would start to feel bad immediately! I’m sure your MIL was freaking out!!!
Easter Weekend! Any big plan? We are going to the in-laws and taking the buns. Hoping the 2.5 hour car ride will help solidify their bond.
Not really any big plans for Easter…
I’ll have to keep all these names in mind, and see their personalities before I name them for sure.
I’ll be keeping 5 girls and 1 Rooster.
In all though, we’ll have 40 chicks, of various breeds. So I can always suggest some names for the other chicks if we have too many name ideas. ![]()
LLH – The thing that really drove home the prank is that my brother-in-law has a big pig that he was trying to convince the in-laws to adopt from them because they didn’t expect him to get so big!
Thought of another name for our black and white rooster-to-be… Othello!
I’m going to be scatter-brained for the next 3 weeks; major changes at home, Pete’s final vet visit, and all kinds of insanity! Plus my sister’s baby is due a month from now and I promised I’d be on hand the first week to help with the new baby, housework, her toddler, etc. I’m going to have angry fur-babies; you have no idea!
Othello is a very good name for a rooster indeed.
I’m still laughing at the pig-prank. There was a pic in yesterday’s paper (no paper today) of a really big pig and couldn’t help but think of your poor mother in law, Cottontail.
Pumpkin’s all right up in Rocky’s business eating her poop. Ugh gross. No manners!
So I left the buns alone in the condo for 6 hours today while I was at work (short day!). I didn’t see any tufts of hair when I got home and both appear fine. Whew. I was worried all day!!!
I like Othello too!! You’ll have to post pics of each Chicken when you get them MM.
LLH — sounds like you’ve got a bonded pair! Also sounds like a good reason for a celebration party!
Lets see how this sounds . . . Mr and Mrs PumpRock . . .!
Congratulations LLH!!
Congrats LLH!
And I definitely will post pics of the chicks! ![]()
Cottontail— Does Othello mean anything in another language or something?
My 1 year BB anniversary is next week. ![]()
Buddy is in the hospital at least overnight tonight with GI stasis
{{{{{Buddy}}}}}
(((((Vibes for Buddy)))))
Thinking of you and Buddy! <3
Haven’t seen you in awhile LHM, I hope Buddy feels better soon! Poor thing.
No, no, I still think Jeff Bridges did a better job. He was a lot more boisterous than John Wayne. LOL
Whelp, that still kiddie slide is still sitting in the middle of the living room. I have made zero progress getting it into the boys’ room.
LBJ — that’s ok. When you have a toilet in the middle of the basement, its only fitting that you should have a slide in the middle of the living room. What would be really cool would be if you could cut a hole in the floor and slide down to the toilet when you need to potty!
I don’t know JR. Going down a slide with a full bladder sounds dangerous to me.
![]()
Moxie — should be fine as long as you land on the toilet!
JR— LOL!
Definitely gonna celebrate! Told hubby we are gonna get a bunny veil and a tiny tophat!!
((((((Buddy))))))
Will need photos if you do buy a bunny veil and tophat! ![]()
LHM We’re all pulling for you. Nothing scarier!! Keep us posted!
JR OMG!!!! Waaaaaay too funny!!
LLH That’s great! So happy for you.
Yeah, so I was so happy to have finally gotten more NIC cubes and made a nice fence around the TV upstairs and I was so happy. This was the start of a wonderful thing, because I wouldn’t have to be there to keep Gus out of trouble every second anymore. Yay![]()
But that didn’t last long. He figured out if he just shoved his face up against one end, he can shove his way through, the beast. I bought a couple of bricks to stop him from moving the ends of the gate…nope. He just shoves and grabs the wire with his teeth and yanks till he can get through, the dummy.
Then I find him laying amongst the wires.
He’s found something noisy to start destroying tonight and he scared the dog.
OMG JR, you’re hilarious! I think I would break the slide if I did that, it’s only like 2 feet off the ground and it’s made of plastic.
Here ya go LLH!

They are sized just for bunnies! Here’s the site: http://cuddlycavies.homestead.com/rabbitcostumes.html
You may recognize the costumes from a little show called South Park. ![]()
Those costumes are adorable LBJ! ![]()
Those outfits are adorable
I keep wanting to dress Powder up in a White Rabbit from Alice in Wonderland outfit… but then I would worry about him murdering me in my sleep haha
The search to find a new animal is so tough when you’re picky about where your pets come from. I won’t do a mill animal. The rescues don’t have what I want (a small parrot that can be out of cage with my current one, the shelters don’t really do birds around here). The breeders I can find are all backyard breeders. And there aren’t even rehoming ads on craigslist! Last resort, I found a pet store (local, not chain) in town that seems to actually care about their animals getting good homes and say they’d rather send someone home with no animal than the wrong one and the owner personally inspects all the breeder facilities themselves to make sure they aren’t mills. And they do adoption days. So, going to check them out.
Stickerbunny – Yeah, that’s tough. But I know how it is. They don’t get a lot of bunnies in at the humane society here and there’s no such thing as a bunny rescue. If you’re looking for a bird, I would ask around to see if anyone is doing an informal rescue. The humane society here doesn’t do reptiles anymore, for example. You wouldn’t believe where they go. If a reptile is surrendered, they call the herpetologist at the university. He houses them in his lab and he finds homes for any that don’t fit in with his collection.
I’ve called around the local vets and such, who gave my number to their contacts. And it’s not that our shelters don’t TAKE birds, they do. They just never get them surrendered (they even have a no-kill policy for small animals / avians, so bunnies/birds/ferrets etc stay til they are adopted). And the local pet store I heard about apparently takes in surrenders as well, gets them checked out by vets, etc then rehomes them for the cost they put into them. But, hardly anyone gets surrenders of the avian variety. The parrot rescue only has large birds, basically, macaws and such. Which is kinda scary, cause petco and petsmart sell out of the small parrots all the time and get new shipments weekly. So, there should be some rehome situations in this town with the volume of avians they go through…I have only seen three in the last year though, all on craigslist, with essentially “First reply takes it. Just get it out of my house!” sort of ads. ![]()
The seasons are definitely changing, although the men in my house like to rush it. Hubby already buzzed his hair and shaved the beard, cut the grass (basically cut the wild onions in the yard!), brought out the rest of the patio furniture, and today he’s got the grill out “”summerizing” it. He headed to the Weber grill store for a few parts a couple hours ago. This is as dangerous as me going to a shoe store. Over $200 later, he’s back, with more than a thermostat and new grates. Now our grill has a pretty new cover, a new thingy to tell us exactly how much gas is in the tank, and we can grill kabobs, fish without it falling through, roast things, and keep stuff warm. What is it about men and grills?
Oh my goodness, my wife has been talking for weeks about how she wants to put Mr Roger in a waist coat. Looks like I might not be able to get out of it now!
My essay is progressing at a speed so slow that I’ve estimated it would take me 20 days if I continued at my current word count per day. In that time, I’ve got to have written, redrafted and submitted 20 plus work and prepare for my exams. Whoops.
LBJ thats amazing…going to the site now!!
An ad on Craigslist is where I got Coco. Sometimes those “take them quick” ads are really rescues in disguise. The people who had coco had him running ‘free’ in their yard, and when I came the pick him up they had him stuffed in this tiny metal litter box with a mesh bottom! Poor thing.
I found a bunny I might get! He’s soo cute. A Harlequin, so he has those markings, but he is a mix so his head is quite pale giving him very pink ears! I tried to get some photos but he wasn’t being a good model.
One Two Three
I decided to think on it for a while. If he gets adopted in the meantime, then I know it wasn’t meant to be, and if I still am in love in a week or two, then I know it is! I also want to see if there are any post-Easter buns that need rescuing.
Aww, Nora, he’s such a cute little… uh, blur? LOL You’ll have to get some good pictures when you go back (and I know you will, I can sense it!).
Everyone sitting down? This afternoon, hubby announces that maybe we should get bunny #4 so Kieko could have her own bonded buddy! He did add that he couldn’t believe he was saying it out loud!
I’m a little torn between #4 and trying again with the M&Ms. But definitely thinking about waiting to see if Easter buns show up at the local SPCA.

Yeah, I’m not against getting one from there. It’s just hard to get anything when they literally are OK giving it to the first reply, no questions asked. They’re usually gone within the hour. Which is really sad. Smaller parrots often don’t live over a couple of years in captivity due to poor care, much like bunnies. Even though with proper care they can live up to 30 years depending on species.
A 4th bun? Uh oh.
Soon you’re gonna be needing a bigger house hehe
I love the coloring on that bun, Nora! (get him get him get him get him get him get him get him)
I’ve always heard that it was easier to bond 4 bunnies together than it is to bond 3 (get it get it get it get it get it get it get it get it get it get it)
Oh! JR! We get to name bun #4 right? Ser, now you can see how we ended up with 10.
Oh, Nora, I hope this little guy works out.
but like you said, it will if its meant to be. He’s adorable.
I went in a local pet store today……and left empty handed! Aren’t you all proud? Lol! They had one bun, a little gray and white lop. Such a cutie. But I was actually there for stuff for Elvis. ![]()
Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! Are you serious JR? You have to get Kieko a friend because, yes, it is easier to join two pairs together than it is three buns.
That reminds me of something JR. Why is it Kieko instead of Keiko?
BM — I actually thought of you when he said it!
LBJ — Kieko is pronounced like Keeeko and Keiko is pronounced like Kaaaako. I guess it could have been spelled Kiko but son and the then-girlfriend picked the spelling. It shouldn’t bother me, but it bugs me when people pronounce Moshi’s name wrong — they always call him Moshi with a long O like in “motor” when the O in his name is pronounced like the O in “posh” or “gosh”. My son wanted to call him “mooshy” at first because Moshi is, well, such a mooshy bunny!
Nothing is decided on whether or not there will be #4, but if there is one, it will most likely be a “he” and be either Harvey or Humphrey unless the personality doesn’t fit those!
I guess I never saw it spelled ie before, so that is why I asked. That explains it though. I didn’t know Moshi was like mash pit. You always say your son said he was mooshy, so I never thought it was pronounced differently. =\
Standoffish little Marlee decided to be friendly tonight and I thought she was just trying to be cute when she periscoped next to my face tonight…..until she decided to try to take my new glasses. I have the rimless hingeless Silhouette glasses and they’re now a little crooked since she twice to pull on one side. She was really cute trying though!
I’ve always pronounced his name like Moe-shee. I am part of the problem.
Ox snatched my last pair glasses off my face once when I was trying to do nail trims. They still have a bite shaped scratched mark on the glass.
That’s ok MissG, I can’t hear you say it! One of our vets does it even when I’m standing right there calling him “Mosh Mosh”.
Luckily Marlee didn’t get the lenses. Hopefully a little adjustment will straighten it . . . adjustment to the glasses frame not the bunny!!!
I dunno JR, Marlee might need some adjusting.
Wouldn’t that be funny if we could take our buns somewhere to have them adjusted? Hahaha!
Sorry guys I haven’t been on much. Why must I allow things to pile up?
Anyways, you will be happy to know Bruno (parents dog) has been seizure free and seems to be doing well for the time being so that is wonderful.
We don’t really have any Easter plans. Maybe I will “adopt” a chocolate bunny from the local grocery shop? Ha ha ha!
BM-Sorry I’m so late, but really any dish is fine for sand bathing. I use a terra cotta pot holder thing (I don’t know what they are called?)… Like a terra cotta plate. ![]()
Happy Easter everyone!
I’ts first thing in the morning on Easter Sunday here.
To all the Christians; He is risen! May the miracle of Easter bring you renewed hope, faith, love and joy.
And to everyone else; I hope you get loads and loads of chocolate! ![]()
JR – I’m usually the first person to mispronounce things but it seems that I got Kieko and Moshi right!
Happy Easter!! He is risen
I always loved the name Kieko! Although I was saying it kee-aahy-co
Yes, He is risen. Love that! My dad always answered the phone on Easter morning with that. I sure miss hearing it.
Happy Easter all!
Nora–that bunny is beautiful! I think you’re logic is great to think it out and see if it’s meant to be. Keep us posted!
JR–have you checked hubby for a fever??!! You HAVE to get a friend for Kieko!!!!!!!! Don’t ever let your hubby forget that it was his idea
![]()
LBJ — I can see the look on my vets’s face! “This one is gettingba bit of an attitude. Can you make an adjustment toward more of a snuggle? Maybe just a little to the right?”. LOL!
LLH — you think he would have learned by now since coming home with two bunnies when we went to get Moshi was *his* suggestion!
Yesh JR! You *MUST* get bunny #4!!!
And Now I’m getting confused on how you pronounce your bun’s names!
this is how I pronounce them:
Keee-Koh (like the ‘k’ sound and then OH)
Moe-shee
Mar-lee
Please let me know if I’m wrong!
![]()
Happy Easter Everyone! He is risen indeed!
And I hope everybody got lots of chocolate (if they can have it) and goodies.
AH has not been on the chat thread in like over a week. I hope everything’s going okay with her.
I was just wondering where AH is. I hope she’s OK. I got jellybeans and chocolate
we went to the late mass at our church yesterday (8pm to 11pm)
Then went to a restaurant with some friends who’s mass got out at the same time. I think I need a nap!
Moxie — all correct except Moshi. His is like M ah shi like you’re saying “ah” when the doctor looks at your throat! The O sounds like the O in “gosh”.
AH was on the Whatch Reading Thread today or yesterday. We must be boring her here ha ha
Knowing AH, she’s probably cleaning something or organizing something, or thinking about cleaning something or organizing something, or fretting over something that isn’t clean or organized. (Still wishing she would do some of that at my house!)
K JR.
I know, but a week not on the chat thread isn’t like her…
She messaged me on facebook with Easter wishes-I imagine she’s been busy with her Easter festivities? I hope my reply went through-darn facebook! ![]()
Went to Tractor Supply to see if they had that standlee compressed hay that you guys were talking about… last time I asked about it, the girl said they didnt have it, only the alfalfa. Well they did have it, the nice man went and looked and pulled one out for me from the back. When he asked, “only one?” and I replied, “yes, it’s for my rabbits” he was like… “they eat this?” So of course I explained how it should be 80% of their diet, and pointing to the pellets, explaining how that should only be a very small part. When he told me he had some rabbits, “somebody gave them to me” but that all but one jersey wooly had died, “I don’t know why”. I nearly cringed. I already knew that he kept them outside in a hutch. That they never saw hay before, that they never had human companionship. I knew that trying to change the way this guy viewed his rabbit was going to be near impossible, but I gave him a quick lesson on the possibilities. He was surprised to hear they could be litterbox trained. He was surprised I kept mine in the house. He was surprised when I explained they actually have personalities. I asked if he had a computer and internet, and when he said yes, I told him to check out YouTube and told him of a few videos to check out. He seemed interested. Whether or not he was just happily placating me, I dunno. I hope his jersey wooly finds himself with a new life soon. -sigh-
Happy Easter! And to anyone who is Ukrainian “Khrystos Voskres!”
I hope everyone had a wonderful day! And every bunny has a wonderful day too!
So many of us have declared ourselves the “crazy bunny lady” that we ought to have a club, kindof like the Red Hat Society. We could be the CBLC for Crazy Bunny Lady Club or something like that and have our own “thing” like the red hat, except it can’t be a hat because I look weird in hats. I guess we could all wear fluffy cottontail puffs on our butts . . . .
Wow, I think I’ve been sniffing too much hay dust, or I really need to get a life!
LOL JR, that would be too funny. You should actually do that, you know, like a prank. Say it with a straight face and see what the vet’s reaction is. Hehehehe!
AH is fine. I have “spoken” with her and everything is okay, so don’t worry.
Well, this weekend has been very unproductive. The slide is still in the living room and the bunny room has not been rearranged. We wasted a good chunk of time over at the in-laws’. It was just “us”. They waited until the last minute to say anything, so my husband’s brother and his wife had made plans with her family. That means my niece and nephew weren’t there. So we took to dog, since she hardly gets to see her grandparents anymore.
Manic: That breaks my heart. I LOOOOOVE jersey wooleys and that just makes me so sad!
Manic— At least you were able to inform him on rabbit care a little bit. ![]()
Manic — we have to try any way and anytime we can. Hopefully he listened. BTW, the Standlee folks told me not to feed that hay to bunnies — don’t know if they were just trying to sell Jojo’s best instead or what. It looked ok to me, maybe a little stalky, but I’m so paranoid that I tossed it.
Manic you did what you could! Glad you spoke up!
JR-I think it’s safe to say we’ve all inhaled a bit too much hay dust! And your description of how AH is probably spending her time describes me to a tee!! Too funny!!
LBJ-glad your dog got to see the grandparents. We took the bunnies to Gramma and Grampa’s this weekend too. They got to hang out with their pekinese. Pumpkin was super scared of the pekinese at Christmas, but not as scared with Rocky. Rocky was really interested and him and the dog smelled each other a lot!
JR it’s funny that you say that because everyone at my work calls me “crazy bunny lady” I even have a magnet at my desk that says it!
I know I am a crazy bunny lady that’s for sure. I would join that club.
Nora I hope things work out with that bunny. its coloring was really pretty.
JR I am interested in seeing if you get a 4th bunny. It will definitely be exciting!
The weather was really pretty the past couple of days so we did a lot of outdoor things. Today has been so cold it didn’t even reach 50 degrees. We did bundle up and go walking in this really pretty park that is full of squirrels.
I hope everyone that celebrates Easter and anyone that doesn’t is having a wonderful day/evening!
LBJ — I think the vet would catch on pretty quick. She’s got a great sense of humor — she’s the one that calls little Marlee “wild woman”, “girlfriend”, and “sister” when she’s examining her!
I’d join the club.
I am at my wits end with Ox and his hair! I’m seriously considering buying a blower so that I won’t have to have this weekly/bi-weekly fight with him over brushing. Knowing my luck though he’d end up hating that just as much and I’d be out $150+.
I should probably start a new thread for this, but any blower recommendations?
MissG— I feel ya. Moxie is an angora so is dumping all her wool right about now. If I don’t brush it out, it mats. If I brush it out, Moxie hates me and won’t go near me for at least a day! =^/
I’d join the crazy bunny lady club! I’ve gotten quite a few blank stares before from me talking to people about Moxie. lol. ![]()
MissG — I know I may be running a little slow today, but a blower?
Just a quick interjection: Aaaaahh! ![]()
I will be on sporadically over the next 3 weeks, because we’ve apparently gone completely insane in our household and are going to be moving again! As much as we love our current vet, we’re going back to the South and will be there in less than 3 weeks. That means that we’re going to be packing everything up, working on bonding and stress-bonding, and getting everything loaded into cars and a truck and hitting the road.
So if I miss something, I apologize in advance… but my brain is sure to burn out several times very soon. Pete has his final check up in 9 days, then about a week after that we hit the road. This should be fun traveling with 2 non-bonded bunnies and an anxious car-sick-kitty.
So… yes. You may return to the normal chat thread now. My public service announcement has ended. ![]()
CT- wow! I’m pretty sure you won’t have much if any trouble with PumpRock. They sound bonded to me! Good luck with everything!
Cottontail — how far south?
Wow Cottontail! Good luck! When I was a baby (6 months) we moved across the country with just a car full of stuff. We lived there for 6 years (I was turning 7) and moved back across the country (back up to the northeast) with 2 dogs (my parents and 2 sisters and I) and only a largish van full of stuff. We lived in a state campground for 2 weeks, then moving into my uncle’s garage, while we went to the bathroom in a five gallon bucket with a toilet seat on it…So I feel for ya!
MK— LLH is the one with Pumpkin and Shamrock (PumpRock). CT has Peter and Tilly, 2 un-bonded buns!
![]()
JR – We’re heading back to SC, oddly enough! Pete will be able to see his old vet again, but we’ll have to get everyone down there first!
MK and MM- Don’t tell LLH that I snuck PumpRock into my truck! It’s a SECRET! ![]()
LOL Cottontail! You’ll have to visit MegaBunny for us!
(And would you mind if I asked where you are moving from, like where are you living now?) ![]()
So here is a little story about something (stressful) that happened to me last night.
So my brother has a big king sized comforter. But there was a little rip in it. Some how, my little 7 pound dog got *Inside* the comforter through the rip. She was in the corner trying to escape, and she was just too far for me to reach. My dad starts being like “she’s gonna suffocate!” and starts stressing me out (although my dog sleeps with me under 3 comforters each night lol). So He takes a steak knife and starts to cut a little hole in it so we could reach her. Finally I just go all “mighty woman” and tear a large rip into the comforter and was able to get my dog out. I don’t think my brother has seen the rip yet lol. ![]()
MM – We’re just about at the Mason-Dixon line at the moment, so we’re looking a roughly 600 mile trip. I’m not going to say one which side or exactly where right now because I’m still a little paranoid over Pete up here. Had too many vets, when I was interviewing anonymously, point out that he’s illegal to keep without a permit here. Can’t wait to be home in SC where the only thing I have to worry about with keeping him is funny looks, not confiscation and/or fines.
Your little dog certainly knows how to get attention! Time to break out the needle and thread! ![]()
Cottontail – I didn’t realize you were that close to me now. Wave when you pass through VA on your way south!
Duplicate post
Ok CT. I was just wondering because I was wondering if you were anywhere near me. (Which you aren’t really…) Have fun on your trip!
![]()
Lol sorry CT! I don’t know where my head is at lately
I applied to a job at a dog daycare….I have an interview tomorrow. Any tips? I’ve done several interviews but they still stress me out! I was thinking of wearing jeans and a nice top, because I know the employees dress in t-shirts and jeans (You don’t want to wear anything nice while your mopping up! lol) but I still don’t want to look like a slob.
MK— I would probably just wear jeans and a nice top, you wouldn’t want to be too dressed up. I would also start with saying good things about yourself, it’s been proven that the order of what you say can effect things majorly. Good luck! ![]()
Although I have no experience applying for that subset of jobs, I do have experience interviewing for jobs from best buy to fast food all the way to the government jobs requiring top secret clearances. Few general tips:
1) Always dress up, ALWAYS. Bosses respond well to people who take the time to wear pants suits/business attire. Even when applying for my fast food job I showed up in the only full suit I have ever owned. The boss laughed at first in the interview but after offering me the job on the spot said she appreciated I took it so seriously. Therefore, I highly recommend against jeans. A nice top is fine, but at least wear nice khakis. I also find being so well dressed really boosts my confidence in interviews which has a number of benefits.
2) Have your personal story down. This is different than questions in tip 3. Every interviewer I have ever encountered has always started with, “so tell me about yourself.” The story you tell can easily set you apart from other candidates. You can weave in background information that shows your worthiness as a candidate, highlights your strengths, or why you were good for the job. When I applied for an Army job this past semester, I led out with a story regarding my family being all military and how it allowed me to do what I do today and what all it taught me. Not only did it stress good values, but it also signaled to the interviewer that, “hey this guy is legitimately interested in the job.” So having a good story is helpful.
3) Prepare for the big questions beforehand, chiefly (1) why do you want this job, (2) what are your strengths, (3) what are your weaknesses. Though the questions vary in each interview, these always tend to show up in one way or another. So have your answers prepared, and actually practice them the day before.
4) Research the organization beforehand. Know what they do, why they do it, and this will help tremendously with tip 2.
5) Be confident, maintain eye contract (but don’t be creepy
), and always smile.
Thats about all of the general tips I have, good luck
. If you can handle a bunny, I promise you can handle an interview.
Edit: Heres a great list by FORBES. http://www.forbes.com/sites/jonyoushaei/2014/10/20/12-surprising-job-interview-tips/2/ — check outnumber 5 and 6 especially.
Hi everyone! This is my first chat, Lets hope I can keep checking in here! I never new these chats could go on so long… 8pgs!!
cottontail– There’s places where your not allowed to have a bunny? Inever knew that.:/
MoxieMeadows– finny little pup of yours. Glad you got him out safe!
Thanks Law Bunny!! I don’t have any khakis…Maybe black pants? I spent time today watching the employees (they have cameras for the dog owners) so I could see if I could do the job. I am CONFIDENT I can. I really want to learn more about handling dogs,(although I dog sit, used to dog-walk and have always had dogs) and I am legitimately excited to work with dogs too
so I hope that comes through in the interview. They called two days after I sent in my application in, so either they really need someone or they liked something they saw in my resume.
I am super excited for you, that should be a ton of fun (beats an office job every day of the week
). And I totally approve of black pants, just iron them the night before and you are good to go! And I think your past experience will definitely shine through, let us know how the interview goes. I am sure you will be fine![]()
Thanks!! I just finished working out the hours I can offer them with my parents. Mostly weekend, with some other days. But they know they’re hiring a student. I would say my only ‘weaknesses’ are lack of experience, but I am very willing to learn!! I’ll update after the interview ![]()
Lola – Pete is an odd case, as he’s a “wild” eastern cottontail rabbit, and not the average domestic bunny like Ms. Tilly; so many places do not allow for him to be kept as a pet. There are some places that don’t allow pet rabbits of any sort, like Queensland, Australia; where there have been some small petitions going to hopefully change that and educate people on caring for house rabbits.
MK – Dressing nice for the interview is always a good idea, but I would also keep a pair of jeans and sneakers/boots in the car, in case they ask when you can start. That way you can tell them “right now” and change for work. Back when I applied for a bakery position I saw that they wore khakis and burgundy shirts for their uniform, so that’s basically what I went to my interview in and told them I could start immediately if need be (and I did!); years down the road when I applied at a repair shop I went in with simple black pants and a button-down, but made sure I had on my steel-toe boots in case they wanted me to check out the shop. So I guess my advise is to dress nice, but be ready with clothes you can work in immediately if need be.
Good luck!
Here are the points I want to hit in my interview: I am: reliable, team player, animal lover, very willing to learn, friendly and conscientious. And the cons: Can’t run a cash register BUT I learn quickly, have not had experience with many dogs together (if they ask) BUT again, I learn quickly.
I already know how to work a mop and scooper
CT- Good idea! I was planning on wearing a t-shirt under my top anyway, and I have black pants that are really very dark jeans.
I was just going over my emails, and it turns out I actually inquired about a summer job with them a year ago. I wonder if I should mention that…
oh! Another suggestion: Never say that you “can’t” do something. Simply state that you haven’t worked with it yet but that you’d like to learn how to use it. That ties in well with learning fast and willing to learn.
Psychology; use positive terms.. avoid negatives—even if you’re saying the same thing.
MK — my son’s first attempt at a job was at a pet boarding/daycare/grooming place. Since many of the jobs at places like this are “first” jobs for young people, the main things they were interested in were punctuality, dependability, and good with animals. Lets just say my son was great with the animals! (They had a regular client that was a bull mastiff and everyone was afraid of him — my son walked right up to him and scratched his ears and squisheed his face. My son wouldn’t have lasted as long as he did there if it wasn’t for that dog!)
I love mastiffs! I have learned that the main thing with dogs (and bunnies!) is to be calm. they immediately pick up on your attitude. If you make something look like for feel like a big deal, they will get tense. Works pretty well
This place has a meet n’ greet with potential clients beforehand, (to see how the dog does with people and other dogs) so I don’t have a big chance of running into an aggressive dog.
CT- thanks! I will try to avoid negatives. I do have reliable transportation, because if it happens that my parents cannot take me, I can take the bus.
Good luck MK!!
CT better visit me! And let me meet Pete. Then I can brag!!
JR My daughter worked in a kennel and there was a mastiff everyone was pretty scared of. My daughter didn’t know that (kinda pissed me off they let her near him) but she walked right in with no fear, and she turned out to be the only one they wanted to have walk the dog! She was 15! An older person got in trouble for trying to buddy up to the dog when she was out with him. They said she was the ONLY one to walk that dog!! The dog would’ve picked up on my fear in an instant and it would have been disastrous.
My son was the only one who *could* walk this dog — the dog wouldn’t let anyone else near him! He said the dog would wag his whole body when he saw him. I think the dog walked my son instead of him walking the dog!
Our next door neighbors used to have 5 english mastiffs, 4 pugs, a german shepherd, and some kind of spotted dog. Their back yard reeked in the summer — hot dog poop. All those big dogs and the people were afraid Mysti was going to hurt their dogs when we got her (we wanted to tie on to their chain link fence since it was on the property line and they didn’t want us to). They weren’t very nice about it. Solved that problem real easy — we put up a 6 foot wooden privacy fence right next to their chain link. Amazingly, we couldn’t smell the poop after that either!
I have no idea how I went this long having grown up in the south (kindof) and having been married to a country boy for so long, but I had cooked collard greens for the first time the other day! Yum!
Good luck on your interview MK! There are days I’d like to quit my job and work with animals and/or old people. Or both?!
CT–PumpRock would love a trip to the south! But they will be bringing Gus, Tilly, and Pete back with them!! Well, I’m thinking you could just stress bond them the whole trip!!! LOL but seriously and then you’ll enter a completely neutral territory–this could be good timing for you!!
MM–seriously you lived in a garage and used a pail for toilet?! hahaha I’ve seriously heard it all! That’s crazy!!
Cottontail — it just occurred to me that if your neighbor had waited much longer to move out, you might not have still been there to take Tilly! It was fate for you to have her!
LLH- you could take therapy bunnies to seniors! how cool would that be
the residents are the only part I miss about my old serving job. They were so sweet
MK – Also think about job relevant questions. I can’t tell you how many times I have been given a scenario and asked how I would handle it.
Megabunny – I was the only person who could handle some of the animals at my old job. I don’t know if it was necessarily confidence. Maybe it was. LOL But if our grumpy snake was hissing at me, I didn’t back down. I would just grab him anyway. He learned which people he could scare off by hissing.
Wow, I can’t believe how little I got done at work today. *sigh*
MK that sounds like the perfect job!
When we had Boston, we took her home for a holiday and my mom was working at a Nursing Home so we took her in to see some of the residents. They were in awe of Boston!
LLH— Yeah I know right? lol!
I had a good time babysitting tonight. ![]()
Moxie – That’s almost as bad as my kiddie slide through a hole in the floor to the toilet sitting in the middle of the basement. ![]()
I don’t know LBJ.
![]()
I don’t know LBJ.

My latest reply didn’t go through!
JR- The hubby said that getting Tilly must have been the reason that we moved up here in the first place. She has him completely smitten.
MB – You know you’ll get to meet my Tilly and Pete; but I get to snuggle your Gus!
LLH – I’m keeping my fingers crossed on bonding. Tilly and Pete have been getting salads primarily at the gate together, but if I don’t watch Tilly will finish hers and then stick her paw through the gate to steal from Pete’s bowl! There’s been little to no aggression (ie- No more Pete boxing), and they are starting to ignore each other a lot more… so I’m hoping to start putting them in neutral territory together soon, rather than just having breakfast and dinner dates at the gate. I would LOVE to be able to travel with bonded bunnies, but I’m getting new carriers for the trip so they can have a little privacy if needed.
CT–If it makes you feel better these two steal salad out of each other’s mouths!!
Cottontail — there’s a new thread by someone with some cottontail babies and she’s asking for advice. You might want to check it out.
JR – Got it! ^_^
All I can say is, if your coming south, stop immediately at the nearest Bojangles! You will not be disappointed!
Speaking of kiddie slides, that silly thing is still sitting in the living room. o_O
The Law Bun – What’s that?
Law Bun — what state or general area are you in? We had a Bojangles years ago and it closed, now they’re building a new one . . . right next door to another chicken place. When we discovered Cracker Barrel, we were on vacation heading south and joked that we’d stop for a meal whenever we saw one. Heading south, there was one at almost every major exit!
Hey all…sorry to interrupt…I need you guys opinion again..am so sorry for being hopelessly clingy..this just seems to be never ending?

sorry once again…
Hi Toki, I wrote to you in your other thread. I think the other BBers will too as soon as they wake up, they’re probably sleeping in the USA at this time.

Hi Toki, I wrote to you in your other thread. I think the other BBers will too as soon as they wake up, they’re probably sleeping in the USA at this time.
Thanks Bam! Just wondering.Where are you from? ![]()
![]()
Tokii, I’m from Sweden =)
Firstly, Bojangles is the quintessential southern fast food joint in my opinion. Most every “buzzfeed” article regarding the south usually talks about Bojangles. Its just really good fried chicken, chicken tenders and fries (their seasoning salt for the fries is what really sets them apart). But be ready, our tea is always SWEET tea ![]()
Jack- I am from North Carolina, Tar Heel Born and Bred. And thats great news! Cant believe the first one closed, the ones near me stay packed all day it seems. Also Cracker Barrel is a fantastic joint as well. Their Biscuits and Gravy and sweet tea are my go to.
We have a cracker barrel here, I love their food! But it does seem a little strange in the west
here you usually have to all for sweet tea.
Guys question! Should I ask what my particular duties would be at my interview today? When should I ask?
In my experiences, at the end of every interview, the interviewer always asks “so what questions do you have for us?” That would be when you would ask, and yes, I do think its a very good idea. I usually go to interviews with three questions (may not ask all three but good to have them). Ultimately, wait for the interviewer to ask you if you have questions. If she doesn’t, then at the end of the interview politely ask if you can ask her a few questions regarding the position.
I worked at a Cracker Barrel for about 4 hrs. I should have gone inside one and maybe tried to eat their food prior to getting a job there. Sorry, I couldn’t get past those biscuits and gravy. And the people being packed in at the tables all lined up end to end made me see them as pigs at a trough. I knew I couldn’t do the job when the man asked me, “what do you recommend?” and inside my head my inner voice was screaming “I RECOMMEND YOU RUN AWAY FROM THIS PLACE AS FAST AS POSSIBLE!”
Yea… I’ll never step foot in one of those places again.
Law Bun — you got something wrong … in the South, “sweet tea” is all one word like “sweettea”, and deservingly so! Here, Chik Fil A, one of the Burger King’s, and a little sub shop across town are the sweettea go-to spots. Will have to try Bohangles when it opens.
Manic — do you not like “southern” cooking?
My fault, I was merely putting it in terms the northerners can understand ![]()
. Totally kidding haha, but you are correct. As Dolly Parton said on Steel Magnolias, its the “House wine of the South”
I am southern, born and bred Virginian. I think, it’s a cultural thing. From what I saw, and this is gonna sound bad, but it’s my observation, the food I was raised with just made badly by white people. I’m half-black and the country cooking I learned was by my father and his mother, the black side of my family. My mom, who I guess has finally learned how to cook stuff, cooked differently. Even though she also was born and raised in Virginia, and within 50 miles of where my father was raised. Every black family I know cooks like I learned. And every white family I know cooks like my mom’s family, so I’m fairly certain it’s a cultural difference.
Cracker Barrel does not smell good to me, or look appetizing in any way.
Edit to add: I just wanted to say sorry if this offends anyone! I tend to just spurt out stuff like you guys know me well, and white vs black cooking is something my hubby and I (hubby is white) and our closest friends (inter-racial couple) joke about a LOT. Again, I’m not racist! Love you all!
And ditto on the tea-flavored sugar water! Yum!
I’ve lived in the South over 20 years (settled army brat) and honestly Bojangles is one of the few places that is completely off my list of fast-food. I have never had any luck with them! whenever I order something they give me the wrong item, and it’s usually replaced by the spiciest form on the menu and when they do get it close I end up with food poisoning. I know it’s not that way for most people, but it’s been pretty consistent luck for me with them, so I’ve just given up on them. There’s plenty other places to go eat, like Smashburger, Kickin’ Chicken, TacoDog, O’Charley’s, Cook Out… If I want Southern cooking I can always do that at home! Heck, the cashier at the store up here was practically in shock when I bought the beef-heart that they accidentally got in stock, then explained to her how to slow cook it.
And Manic – No offense taken here! I knew what you meant. A lot of Southern cooking depends on what the families had at their disposal and what recipes got passed down. My father is southern born and bred, and we lived in SC so long that I got a good blend of traditional cooking. My mother is a “damned Yankee” (which if you’re not familiar with the term, simply means a northerner that came south and never left) so I got a good bit of home cooking tips from her, too. All this talk about southern food has made me want to cook up some mustard-BBQ.. but I just made an apple-glazed ham so I can’t justify it for a couple days until we finish that. ![]()
You all are making me hungry!
Manic — not a racist here either, and I know what you mean about white vs black cooking. Except for a one dish I can’t bring myself to eat, the black cooking I’ve had was better. My hubby is from Arkansas and I cannot stand his family’s “home cooking”. My mother’s family is from west/central VA and their cooking is good but way different from either.
Cottontail — my father was a “damn yankee” too! I don’t know what I would be — born above the Mason-Dixon line but mostly raised below it!
JR- My Dad was Arkansas, too! He insists on chedder on his apple pie! lol
And we would probably just call you a “transplant.” I would be, too, if it weren’t for already being a “brat.”
I love it when you discuss cultural stuff like this. The American South seems very exotic, like in the books by James Lee Burke. He’s one of my absolute favorites.
We don’t really have any “good” restaurants around here. One of my favorites though (around an hour away) is a Chinese buffet around an hour away.
When I lived down south I used to love their Boiled peanuts people sold off the side of the road.
I love Fiddle heads though, which are pretty much ferns that haven’t uncurled yet. People harvest them and sell them on the side of the road here. ![]()
Woah, I said “around an hour away” twice. Ignore that lol! ![]()
The hubby says Popeyes is better than Bojangles. I wouldn’t know, I’ve never had Bojangles although there is one down the street. And I LOVE Cracker Barrel! We used to get the beef stew all the time. We can’t go to either anymore, though.
I think it depends on the Cracker Barrel too. Breakfast is usually pretty good. In the Summer they sometimes have a chicken thing where they cook the chicken with veggies in foil and serve the whole thing in the foil pouch. Yummy!
JR- I’m black… we eat fried chicken girl! LOL
Grits. Do you do grits? My mom’s family did grits. Dad’s family did cream of wheat. But I’m not a big breakfast person. I grew up in the city, but my family cooking upbringing is country. Bojangles, Popeye’s, Golden skillet, all those were around where I grew up, but we were poor and didn’t eat out. So I learned to fry chicken properly at home.
Cheddar cheese on apple pie, I’ve heard of it being done, but I file that in the “that’s just wrong” category. LOL
Pies (holidays only) were sweet potato (mom’s family did pumpkin- though I’ve never had one), pecan, or if I was really lucky, my dad’s lemon meringue.
Manic — I’m going to have to agree with you on the cheddar/apple pie thing, but I can’t do grits at all. Love fried chicken but haven’t had any that was decent in a while — that’s one of those black/white cooking things, and white people (IMO) simply do not know how to fry chicken!
JR and Manic, its really cool listening to u guys talk about different foods and cultures! Any of you guys have A&W? Its a fast food restaurant that’s been around for ages! (Its one of those fast food ones that are everywhere). Or DQ? Its another fast food place that has lots of soft icecreams, burgers and fries, etc. I live in canada btw.
Manic– Its really cool your black! I’m white+ definitely not racist!
Anyone here from dutch decent? (me!) If so, do you eat ‘dutch pancakes’? that’s what my family calls them. heres a link to what they look like: http://www.petiscos.com/fotos_utilizadores/3647805f29a0cc1f2a556e9f69c806b3bbed7_Spelt-Crepes.JPG
We had an combo A&W and Long John Silvers but it closed and Cookout moved in.
No Dutch that I know of, but based on today’s conversation I’m apparently part can’t-cook-country and part damn-yankee-transplant. Now *that’s* cool!
We are German and have a “kraut biskies” tradition. Grandma makes the dough, stuffed with hamburger and saurkraut, and fried in crisco. Definitely a poor man’s meal! Fun to hear about food in the south. No offense taken Manic!
Where are some good places to eat when we go to Florida?
One of my apartment-mates in college was German so I got a taste of authenic German recipes. Couldn’t tell you what the dishes were because they all seemed to be called “here, try this”!
You all are really making me miss my friends who can cook! Seeing that I can “cook” approximately three things, we eat out *alot*!
Moxie — Boiled peanuts! Yes! We’ve seen the people sitting in chairs by the side of the road. All looks sketchy, but maybe we’ll have to try them if you say they’re good. We just can’t go there with grits. There’s some grits festival coming up. Sounds like there’s a Miss Grits named each year. Imagine that being your claim to fame? Sorry. The South really is a different world.I’ve watched people eat grits. That’s as close as I’m planning to get.
Bo Jangles on Ashley Phosphate Cottontail??? Looks so gross, but the kids got dinner there when they last visited. I’ve been looking at the big billboard near my house with a giant biscuit with cheese saying, “More cheese than biscuit.”
I told hubby I was going to have to get one sometime. Looks toxic, but good.
I don’t want to change the subject because this is a good one, but I just want to say MEAN PEOPLE SUCK. There I feel better
I’m a terrible cook. My mom can’t cook either, so I never learned much from her. She didn’t ever learn because grandma was always drunk and never cooked anything. So yeah, it’s basically my husband’s family that cooks stuff. They’re Czech so they eat a lot of weird things. My mother-in-law will put all kinds of stuff on top of mashed potatoes. Tonight it was cream of chicken and vegetables on top of mashed potatoes (we stopped by earlier, but be didn’t eat with them). My husband likes duck and dumplings, but real Czech potato dumplings are hard to make. I will make gnocchi, which is similar but my husband says it’s not the same. He also likes kolache, but I’m even worse when it comes to baking (especially if you have to use yeast in the dough).
We have KFC and Popeye’s for fried chicken. But we also discovered that Culver’s has decent fried chicken that isn’t too greasy. If you want greasy, then you go to this local restaurant that has probably the best fried chicken ever, but very very bad for you. LOL
Megabunny — LOLOLOL! So you weren’t joking before when you mentioned a grits festival?!
I’ve never tried roadside boiled peanuts, but I do like the Hubbs peanuts which may be similar? I’ve never tried roadside kettle corn or tacos from a mobile food truck either although hubby keeps insisting he’s going to try the taco truck food sometime.
Gotta ask, what happened for you to say that mean people suck?
I used to eat grits when I was a kid and I’m not from the south. I think it was just because it was cheap. o_O
JR, well, mean people do suck. LOL But I too am wondering if there is more to Megabunny’s story.
MB – You should go to the Grits Festival! My mother and I always joked about going, not because we like grits, but because they have a contest every year where you roll around in a kiddy-pool full of grits and whoever gets the most to stick to them (by weight) wins! I think the prize is a year supply of grits, but I just thought the idea of the contest was fun.
The only grits I’ll eat are the ones my hubby makes for me; he puts in lots of milk and some honey for me.. so it’s more like cream o’wheat.. but he keeps his just plain or with butter. My Dad takes his with bacon and butter.
JR- Never question any reason for a festival in the South! Pick a random southern thing and there’s bound to be a festival for it! lol Watermelon, Crawfish, Grits, Strawberry… and my favorite festival name is still the Hell Hole Swamp Festival. They appoint a queen every year! ![]()
On the subject of food; I love Chicken ‘n’ dumplings! And All the talk about German food has made me want potato pancakes with brats and applesauce! May not exactly be traditional German, but it ties in with my parents and their versions of German foods… We’ve got some strong German roots, but they’ve gotten tangled into the “Heinz 57” of the bloodline with Irish, English and Native as well. Speaking of which… we could do with some good cabbage stew, too!
This conversation seems to be going the way of the cake conversation from a previous chat… Where is that cake? ![]()
You wanna know the best take away food??? The hot dog van parked outside the night club at 3 in the morning, ha ha ha! After a night of drinking, dancing, talking (non stop for me, lol!) and singing along to the cover band – to walk outside before catching a taxi home, and order a hotdog with bacon, fried onion topped of with tomato sauce and mustard, YUM!!!
Then you get home, pass out and wake up to find tomato sauce dribbled down your front – LOL! If only I was 20 years younger again….. ha ha ha! Memories!
I was one of those ‘took for granted’ children. My Grandma cooked everything from anything and it was always the bestest ever! Even my mum…..
I never stopped to think I should learn or ask – I just sat back and ‘took for granted’ the best of everything and assumed they would exist in my life forever. Now that they are both gone, I struggle to replicate their meals. Nothing has ever tasted as good as my Grandma made. What I would do for a piece of her apple slice, silverside with white onion sauce, of AND roast lamb, veggies with gravy – SIGH…..
Mean people SUCK??? Yep, they do MB! I can only imagine what happened to upset you – I’m sorry!
AH – !!! ROAST LAMB !!!
This is the big splurge/fancy dish in my family! My Mom makes it so that it’s got a nice crunchy/juicy blacken garlic coating and it’s nice and hot and rare all the way to the bone with bits of garlic clove inside; it melts in your mouth! We only have it once a year, maybe twice if we’re lucky. …Now I want lamb.
CT – There aren’t a lot of festivals here. Ribfest is the only food one. LOL There is the Czech festival and we used to go, but we haven’t made it for a few years now. =(
Cake? Eh, no cake to speak of here. For Easter my mother-in-law got an angel food cake. Then she bought strawberries and whipped cream. Then she looked at me funny when I was eating it plain because I don’t like strawberries (she knew this!) and whipped cream is weird by itself. So yeah, I’m not too big on angel food. I prefer cakes that have real frosting.
Grits? and all this other stuff (food) you guys are talking about? Biscults and Gravy? YUCK!!!
LOL!
Though I do indulge in boiled peanuts – YUM!
PS – I have to laugh…. I love baked sweet potato, but a sweet potato pie??? NO thank you!
I’m with you AH, biscuits and gravy is kinda gross. My in-laws were just in Texas and my father-in-law was sad they didn’t have biscuits and gravy at the hotel (for breakfast). WTH?
LBJ – Angel food is alright.. but I’m with you. I’d prefer a nice rich cake with butter-cream, or even some devil’s food.
AH – Sweet potato pie is good! It’s kind of like a mild-seasoned pumpkin pie; although I have tried some that are more like creamy candied-yams!
CT – Give me some carrot cake with cream cheese frosting! OMG, I would be in heaven!
I make some pretty good buiscuits and sausage gravy. Nothing says southern breakfast like SOS.
Biscuits and gravy with gross in the same sentence
. blasphemy
.But either way, the best part about the south is that there is a little something for everyone! Sorry to hear about the bad Bojangles trip, but they were in USATODAY for a reason
.
Carrot cake, red-velvet cake, black-forest cake… Even ambrosia cake. Anything nice and rich with a great big scoop of french-vanilla ice-cream…
Well, I’m not big on gravy to begin with. I refuse to put gravy on mashed potatoes.
Aw, poor Leopold. He acted like his tummy hurt earlier. This isn’t the first time this has happened. I swear, he eats something that doesn’t agree with him and then he acts like this. I tried rubbing his tummy, but he was having none of it. I just put them to bed and he seemed somewhat interested in their food so I’m not terribly worried. I still feel bad though. =\
OH! Almost forgot! FRIED ICE CREAM!
NO!!!! A pie (for us Aussie’s) is sweet, like APPLE pie, caramel pie……
I don’t even know what a grit is, let alone everything else you guys have mentioned, ick! Lol! The biscults and gravy, what the hec is that??? Ha ha!
You guys are just weird! LOL!!!
Though my favourite cake is carrot cake!!!
But something you guys are missing out on big time…. Pavlova! It is the best dessert ever!
AH – You know what fried chicken is, right? LOL
You’d love fried ice cream! It’s vanilla, drizzled with fresh honey, then you sprinkle the honey with cinnamon and sugar for the “crispy skin” VERY SWEET
I had to look up what pavlova was; but it looks like it’s a fruit torte with lots of meringue? I’ve made some nice tortes with cream-cheese mousse before, but probably not quite what you’ve got. You’ll have to find a way to ship me some!
And grits you can live without and I won’t be insulted… I’m very picky about eating them and really only do when we have them for my hubby. It’s quite literally what it sounds like. It’s corn grit. Ground up bits of stuff like you’d find at the bottom of the corn mill. No one ever claimed it was fancy…. but Southerners pride themselves with making the most of practically nothing. ![]()
Oh yes, we have KFC here….. But every other place you guys have mentioned is over my head??? Lol!
Pavlova is soft and fluffy meringue, smothered in fresh whipped cream covered in fresh fruit – YUMMMMMY! When everyone comes for Christmas this year, this is what we are all having for dessert.
AH – I want a nice big piece with strawberries and blueberries.. and maybe some kiwi? Thanks!
I should be in bed… I’m going to try to sleep… but I’m going to end up dreaming of all these sweets!
I’ll probably end up making some cookies tomorrow while I pack… if I don’t eat the dough after making it, that is.
Good night, all!
Oh yes, all slices come with strawberries and kiwi fruit, ha ha ha…..
Ni night and try and sleep well CT.
Oh man, I come by for a quick moment and y’all are making me so hungry! Mmm cake…I already had both cookies and ice cream tonight.
Pippin let me pet him today! For like a whole 2-3 minutes. And he seemed to actually enjoy it! First time in months, I swear.
TESSIE!!! I hope you see this……
Teddy’s dad is Darius??? If so – he is featuring in an Aussie magazine this month! Super EXCITED!
I can’t wait to tell everyone that I ‘own’ his son, he he he he he he………
And Moxie, I think you should name one of your girls Henrietta! Wink! LOL!
Congrats Nora – I’m looking forward to the day I can share the same experience, ha ha!
I’m just sitting here passing time and was thinking about all the restaurants you guys have mentioned and I remembered I was just hit up by a friend ‘how on earth did I come up with the name Denny’??? And I had to laugh (at myself) cause I sort of made it up and was a bit embarrassed to explain how. Back in the late 80’s/early 90’s, I liked the name Demi (from Demi Moore) and I worked with it a bit and came up with Denny. Thinking I was being perfectly original, do you know how mortified I was to find out a few years ago that you American’s have a restaurant chain called Denny’s, ha ha ha!
When I finally embraced it (lol!) and Denny went to America the Christmas before last – I was so disappointed he didn’t think to get a picture of himself under the big Denny’s sign – I thought that would have been so cool! A bit like having ‘his’ name up in lights, ha ha ha!
And I will admit…. I stole Blair’s name from an another American actor – Blair Underwood, ha ha ha ha! Though I will admit I had Blair picked out for a girl. Not having a boys name, I stuck with it. But in this instance, I have no problem telling people I got his name from Blair Underwood.
PS – Please don’t tell me you don’t know who Blair Underwood is??? Ha ha ha……
I know who Blair Underwood is!
LOL!!! I knew I could count on you bam, he he he he he…….
Thank you for not letting me feel silly (again!), lol!
I don’t do grits. I prefer cream of wheat, though I haven’t had that in years! And I definitely don’t do biscuits n gravy, SOS indeed! I know who Blair Underwood is mm sexy!
Now about Denny’s. I don’t eat there. The food is ok, I’ve eaten there once. I was warned by some black friends about them, but I was out after a night of clubbin and they were open.. so we went there. There was 4 or 5 of us, I can’t remember exactly how many now, but there was myself and a guy who was black, and the others were white. The waitress was over the top passive aggressive racist. She didn’t like us in there, she didn’t like having to serve us and she definitely didn’t go out of her way to do anything for us. It was all I could do to keep my cool about it. We were the ONLY customers IN the place. She made us wait 15 minutes before she finally came over to take the order, brought the food and never came back. We actually had to go up the the register and ask for the check. So after many similar stories from my other black friends up and down the southern east coast, I decided that I didn’t need to go there anymore. Where I grew up, Denny’s and Waffle House.. racist.. and racists with roaches.
MM Blair Underwood.
I just spent so long catching up on the chat thread ha ha ha!
On the topic of food, I managed to eat super healthy for around 4 days and now for the past week I’ve completely binged on junk food… So its safe to say that backfired! Honestly, I’m not even exaggerating right now- I wouldn’t be surprised if I just dropped dead!
Nora- that bunny is adorable! I hope everything works out
JR- you should totally go for a 4th bunny!
I don’t think I’ll be able to be trusted when I’m older. I love the adrenaline rush and happiness you get from buying/adopting a new pet. I’ll end uo with a house full of animals ha ha ha!
There’s always chicken and waffles…
I can’t really think of any special food we have here….one of my favorite places to eat serves Belgian French fries, delicious!!! We don’t even serve jackalope
I haven’t had much southern cooking, I’ve never really been to the south. But it sounds delicious!
Manic- Ugh don’t even mention racist people!! It makes my blood boil >:/ How can people be so ignorant about some stupid skin pigment!! I have no patience for racist or biased people.
I think I may have found my ideal college! Except for the price ![]()
Okay, question for the Americans!
When southerners say ‘biscuits’ as in ‘chicken and biscuits’ or whatever, what is a biscuit? Because to a British person, a biscuit is like, a cookie.
Also, chicken and waffles? A waffle is like a sweet breakfast food….
This is a biscuit:

I have never eaten at Bojangles before. I have heard of it but never seen one. I live in Oklahoma. I like Popeye’s chicken the best but haven’t eaten there in a long time. I wont eat at KFC again. I wasn’t a big fan of The Crackle Barrel. I ate there once and I just feel it was really hyped up. The food I ordered was just ok. Sweet tea is very common here. I drink it every once in awhile. Someone mentioned boiled peanuts. When I lived in Florida they would sell those all over the place. The last little town I lived in actual grew peanuts and would have a peanut festival once a year. It would smell like peanuts in town. They also grew cotton there. they would call it Florida snow.
MK sorry to hear your ideal college might be too expensive to go to.
WHOA WHOA WHOA!! Who called Biscuits and Gravy gross???
I could *LIVE* on that! It’s AMAZING! We ate it for supper the night before Easter, normally eat it for Christmas breakfast or any special occasions. I love biscuits and gravy. I lived for the first 7 years of my life in the SouthEast(?) so I have a mixed taste for Southern cooking and the cooking up here. Most of my friends don’t get it.
I do miss my accent I used to have though.
MB– Boiled peanuts were delicious, we’re actually going to try and make some in our crock pot, they are good. I would be careful who you buy them from on the side of the road. ![]()
I am SO happy to know that you appreciate Blair’s name sake manic, LOL! The mmmm…… gave it away! Did I hear you licking your lips??? Ha ha ha!
Talk about a cutie….. with a great NAME! Lol!
Unless your a rude ignorant feral bogan with NO morals, I like and get along with everyone.
I don’t tolerate ignorance from anyone – I still get frowned upon by some when seen out with Blair. Treat him as the exception and watch out!!!
Super excited MK – don’t you hate that the what you want always ends up costing so much???
I hate when things cost too much. That’s why I am babysitting now lol. I’m not getting paid much, but at least I get out of the house and interact with people. ![]()
I’m with Tessie – when I think of biscults, I think of sweet biscults you dunk in your cup of tea or coffee – not something you eat with gravy, YUCK! LOL!
And you have/had an accent Moxie??? I bet if we spoke I would still pick your accent – American! My daughter in law to be…. I can pick her American accent as soon as she says hello…. lol!
Tessie- here biscuits are a small round piece of very fluffy, buttery bread. And yes, someone had the bright idea of serving chicken on top of a random waffle. Weird.
AH- I know! But I’m looking into all their scholarships and financial aid. I won’t let money stop me if I can help it. My older brother is going for his PhD in the same city, so he might be there for a while, which would be great, because I don’t have any family in that area.
OMG MK! That sounds perfect! And when your spending money on your education, go for it!
And remember, you can always get a part time job while studying to help cover your costs living away from home.
Wouldn’t a scholarship be amazing!!! We don’t really have them here in Oz, they are very rare – but then again, unless you live out west, most kid’s can live at home while studying, and that makes a huge difference financially.
Like I have often said – you guys do it so differently to us here.
What are you looking to study, what career do you think you’d like to be in when you’ve finished your education?
Yes I “had” an accent! Since I lived down south for the first 7 years of my life I had a bit of a southern accent. (When we moved back up here some kids would make fun of my southern accent.) Now since I’ve been living up north for so long I guess I have a “yankee” accent? Lol!
Manic — there are going to be racists just like there are going to be cockroaches. You just have to pity the racists for all the neat people they miss knowing because they based who they opened up to on the color of someone’s skin.
AH — KFC is about as close to good fried chicken as McDonald’s is to a good burger!
Biscuits and gravy gross?! Not if you’ve had my hubby’s saugage gravy and biscuits! Thank goodness he didn’t learn this from his mother! The rest of my family pours this gravy over their biscuits — its so good that I eat it in a bowl and dip biscuits in it!
Mashed potatoes and gravy — nope! Real mashed potatoes do not need gravy!
Cake! Yesss! Somehow we keep coming back to cake!
LOL! I can’t get over how you have different accents living in different States, ha ha ha……
In Australia, we all sound that same, lol!
I know AH, it is weird (I guess)!
JR– We just pour the gravy over the biscuits.
(Gosh, now I’m craving biscuits and gravy!)
YUCK!
LOL!!!
It’s after midnight and I have to go to bed – I have to get up early (bugga!). Ni night everyone…..
PS – I don’t think I can ever look at a biscult without thinking of gravy ever again, lol!
Good night AH!
It’s crazy to think of you going to bed when it is only 10:56 AM here!
AH- I’m majoring in Biology, I haven’t decided yet what specific part of it I want to go into. I know I want to do something medical and research related.
Okay guys, so if it’s really bread why are you calling it biscuit?! ![]()
Like, what’s that about?
Posted By AndHenry on 4/08/2015 1:48 AM
TESSIE!!! I hope you see this……
Teddy’s dad is Darius??? If so – he is featuring in an Aussie magazine this month! Super EXCITED!
I can’t wait to tell everyone that I ‘own’ his son, he he he he he he………
I’m sorry, I must have missed this post Andi!
Yes Darius is Teddy’s dad
he’s a nice bunny, I met him when I bought Theodore!
Tessie- As far as southern biscuits go- i direct you to this image- http://images.bojangles.com/content/menu/items/photos/large/64.png. Definitely distinguishable from bread, though ultimately bread i guess? I do not cook in the least bit so I could not tell you how much goes into it.
MK- You should definitely aim to still go! Don’t just look for scholarships in the school. I found nearly all of my scholarships from outside companies like my bank, a military organization, etc. So look all around for them. Grants are another great option before you go to loans because they don’t have to be paid back. Work study are usually better than typical college jobs (in total fiscal savings). Lastly, look to subsidized loans before unsubsidized, MUCH better interest rates. Feel free to PM me if you have some questions. Considering I am wrapping up my 7 years of undergrad/grad, I can give you some advice. Its certainly feasible for us who don’t have parents who can fully pay our tuition. Lastly, I fully support biology, but make sure you don’t take a full load of biology first– get your feet wet with like 101. I think like 70% of my bio/chem friends changed majors.
Moxie we have made boiled peanuts in our crockpot. They turned out good. I cant remember what spices my husband used but we put the crockpot on low and cooked them I believe over night. Oh and I have seen boiled peanuts in a can and I would not recommend anyone try those its not the same.
I forgot about biscuits and gravy with sausage. My husband makes that really well. We only have it when we have overnight guests usually.
MK I didn’t get to really finish my post earlier about school. I got a call and had to go. Like Law Bun said look into differently things and maybe you will find what you need to get you into that college.
Biscuits aren’t really bread though… They’re biscuits! I’ll have to post a pic of a biscuit. They’re kinda like bread, but not bread…

That is a biscuit.
That is Biscuits and gravy:

Okay now, woah woah woah hold up!
THAT is a scone. ![]()
Do you have scones in the US? ’cause that’s what it looks like to me.
Where are all the brits to back me up?
Sindriona— I totally agree, canned is never the same as fresh and hot foods. ![]()
Tessie, we have scones, but they are dried out sweet triangles.
My bro in law has these debates with us a lot. He’s from Canterbury.
its been amusing all the “that’s not what that is!” Moments.
Okay so I googled…
This is a ‘southern biscuit’ recipe ingredients list:
• 2cups all-purpose flour
• 1⁄4teaspoon baking soda
• 1tablespoon baking powder
• 1teaspoon kosher salt or 1 teaspoon salt
• 6tablespoons unsalted butter, very cold
• 1cup buttermilk (approx)
And this is a scone recipe ingredients list:
• 225g/8oz flour
• 1 tsp baking powder
• pinch salt
• 25g/1oz caster sugar
• 50g/2oz unsalted butter, slightly softened
• 150ml/¼ pint milk
Biscuits and gravy!
Biscuits in the US are a type of bread that are made very heavy with flour, and (in my opinion) the best variety are buttermilk… followed closely by flakey ones if you’re having a good ham.. ^_^ I knew that they weren’t the same thing in the UK, but always pictured theirs as the things they used in HIT cookies… which I would imagine would not go well with sausage-gravy… but buttermilk biscuits do! They sop up the gravy really well! And the gravy is the real flavor if done right.
MK – My best advice on college is this: if you don’t have the funding to go to the big 4-year school just yet, try an accredited technical school to get your core classes out of the way and get a nice starting GPA. I have a lot of friends that ended up doing their language, math, computer, and elective courses at tech schools, then earning scholarships/grants from their grades in school and transferring to a 4-year university to finish out. Myself, I started at university and burned out, but when I went back I took technical school and went straight into the field within 2 months of graduation without job-placement assistance. I was also able to pay off the loans for tech rather quickly compaired to the one year at University. Just something to keep in mind.. you always have more options than initially presented to you.
Good luck in whatever you decide!
LawBun – I admit I never did like fast-food biscuits… they seem overly greasy and practically fried to me. I prefer fluffy biscuits… more like the Pillsbury variety if they’re not home made.
JR – Real mashed potatoes don’t NEED gravy… but why deprive yourself of the combination if you’ve got homemade gravy from nice rich lamb-drippings? YUM!
Racism doesn’t bother me as much as it used to.. not that I condone it at all; but because I realize that it’s there because of initial learned ignorance, that is then set in by either complacent ignorance and/or seeing too many people portraying the stereotype that promotes it to begin with. And just to be clear–I am referring to ALL racism.. not just black/white, white/black… There will always be people that fit the stereotypes that promote ignorance.. but hopefully there will be enough that rise above it to eventually make racism uncommon or rare.. As wonderful as it would be to stomp it out completely, I believe that there will always be some form of it just because it’s human nature to categorize people. It’s also comforting to be ignorant (not knowing/thinking about something) at times.. because learning means taking risks and allowing your mind to be vulnerable to things you might not feel comfortable thinking about. People like their comfortable little thought bubbles… and society promotes their right to those bubbles… so I figure the best thing is to give them the opportunity to learn otherwise and expand their bubbles, but if they continue to cling to their bubble not to feel personally offended.
There are a few bakeries around me that sells scones. But nope, they aren’t scones!
Biscuits are kinda like bread/salty. There are a lot of different biscuit recipes though, drop biscuits, buttermilk biscuits, flaky biscuits ect.
Panera Bread has really good scones! A biscuit is definitely not a scone. You all have McDonald’s don’t you? They don’t sell breakfast biscuits over there? They’re biscuits aren’t great (greasy and crunchy) but its the general idea. If you don’t put gravy on the biscuit, the next best thing is *real* butter!
Okay I give up.
But I still think you shouldn’t call it a biscuit, ’cause it’s not! ![]()
JR-Your hubby’s biscuits and gravy sound AMAZING!!! Send some this way! And love everything about Panera!
SIndriona-If you need an overnight guest for an excuse to make some biscuits and gravy, I’m game!
MM-That picture of biscuits and gravy look insanely delicious!!!!
Who would have thought I’d learn so many cultural food things on a bunny forum!! haha!
I came home sick from work today…I’m in some serious back pain, so I’m laid up on the couch with a heating pad, watching Netflix, and enjoying snuggling bunnies. As fast as the chat thread is filling up it should help keep me pretty entertained as well!
Tessie, the problem is that you chopped off the last line of the biscuit recipe, which also happens to be the distinguishing ingredient. And thats a slight pinch of love
lol.
Moxie- they look exactly like scones here!
And no no no! I very rarely eat mashed potatoes without gravy. It just makes the potato so much better and gives it so much flavour, mmmm!
ok ok ok. I need to clear this up! Gravy is supposed to be BROWN. The browned drippings in the pan is what you make gravy from… otherwise it’s just wet salty flour. This is my entire issue with SOS “biscuits and gravy”. We do call that SOS in my house, and I believe cottontail knows what I’m saying here. White gravy is wrong and gross. yech. Gimme some brown gravy and a biscuit and then we’re alright!
Biscuits are NOT cookies. Silly english people.
It’s funny that it never even occurred to me that what I thought scones were, are not what you guys call scones. I’m kinda disappointed!
Manic – We’ve always called it SOS, and not the politically correct form either! lol But I do have to admit that I love it when it’s loaded down with good sausage and maybe a little maple. Plain white gravy like you have on chicken fried steak is not ideal… It needs lots of meat in it or be nice dark and rich with drippings!
I have been guilty of just putting the drippings on my baked potatoes if I’m too lazy to make gravy… I’ll even chop up the baked potato and whirl it about in the pan if I cooked the meat on the stove-top… Nice pan-fried meaty potato bits… ![]()
Law Bun – I knew a bunch of people in biology who switched majors, but it wasn’t normally the biology classes. It was the math, physics, chem, etc that scared them away. Although I did know one person who couldn’t handle all the dissecting. You have to dissect A LOT of animals. o_O
Biscuits are buns, like, rolls. Grits is somewhat like Polenta, but fried. Cajun orginally meant Canadian. Crayfish are eaten in the South. (Crayfish is like the Swedish national dish only we eat them cold, with dill and white bread and huge amounts of vodka.)
That was about all I know. I might be as wrong as I was about Rhode Island being an island=)
Baked potatoes with drippings sounds sinfully delicious.
Leopold seems better, in case anyone is interested. I sat him in my lap earlier and rubbed his tummy. He got mad and bit me. Yep, that’s normal. Little brat drew blood too. I put him back in their room and I gave him some banana pieces. He eagerly ate them. *sigh*
Aww, Leopold! Good boy! That’s the best feeling, when your bunny has had a bout of sth and then suddenly eagerly eats sth! (I’m sorry he bit you though).
I generally fall asleep to the sound of Yohio munching on his evening cabbage (in my bed) and it’s such a comforting sound.
In the college topic . . . Going to a 2 year school then transferring to a 4 year school to complete a bachelor’s degree is one of the least expensive and easiest ways to get a degree. Pros — money!, easier core classes, high GPA can make it easier to get merit scholarships at the 4 year school, ability to take entry level classes in the chosen major to “try it out”, and some 4 year schools have guaranteed transfer acceptance from 2 year schools based on GPA. Cons — most if not all credits will transfer but the GPA will not (GPA at the 4 year school starts from scratch and will then be based on the major’s harder upper level classes), missing out on “college life” if that’s what you like, possible missed internship, possible missed scholarships as some schools offer their merit scholarships for 4 years and only offer them to incoming freshmen and grad students.
I did the 4 year college thing from the start. At that time, it was considerably cheaper, less competitive, and I was way more mature than most kids my age. My son started out at a 4 year school, was nowhere near ready for the independance, apparently thought he was there for pleasure, and is debt over his head in spite of having received merit scholarships. He should have taken a “gap year” and started at the 2 year school.
LBJ- Glad to hear he is back and in action, biting and all
. And totally true about Biology, but you can’t have a bio major without those! I was merely suggesting that very few people really stick with the same major throughout college (I changed 3 times I think). Nevertheless, MK get excited, because no matter what, college is such a wonderful experience!
Don’t know if this applies, but Stanford just announced that any student with family income less than $125,000 per year will now have a full free ride.
Thank you guys!! you’re all awesome
Lawbun- Thank you for all the advice
I am in my second semester of AP Biology, I take the test in May. It is work, but I love it!
JackRabbit- Stanford is currently second or third on my school list! I’ll have to look that up.
The school I want to apply to has an early decision program, but I don’t think I will do that, as it means you have to withdraw all your applications to other schools. As soon as I take the SAT in June I will start applying. my current GPA is about a 3.5-.3.7 I believe, but I wish it was higher. It was that dumb C+ >:/
I don’t know what I’ll do with my buns when I go to college
I think my younger brother is open to caring for them.
I love biscuits! But I take mine buttered or plain. I only like gravy on mashed potatoes.
LBJ I guess I missed what you said about Leopold. I am glad to hear he is feeling better.
Yay Leopold!
On the subject of mashed potatoes–i prefer mine filled with milk, sour cream, butter, and cheese!
Does anyone remember the bunny I was obsessed with getting until Shamrock set his eyes on Pumpkin? The silver martin mix named Mathias? Well he found his forever home
Him and Shamrock both made the Companion Rabbit newsletter for finding their forever homes. So happy for Mathias!! Things were meant to be!
Soooo…there are currently Doves up for adoption at our local Humane Society! No bunnies, but doves! Weird!
LBJ So happy to hear about Leopold
AH: Late night hot dogs sound good. Funny I was driving home today after work, nearly 90 degrees, windows open, blaring Barry Manilow and thinking it would be fun to drive down the road and having someone to join me in singing along.
Hope I got revenge on a few rap lovers ha ha
Moxie: Yes NOT be tuition poor. The school you go to only ever matters for the first job. My nephew wanted to go to Cornell. AND he got in! But even w/ scholarships it was ridiculous and Buffalo paid for all his tuition, so he went there for the start of of his future medical profession. It ends up working out for the best, usually, wherever you go. My daughter applied to Albany just as a back up because she had not confidence. She got into several schools but actually found Albany had what she wanted and has LOVED it…way more than her brother who didn’t try to get all that involved.
Oh, that most recent shooting in the news in South Carolina happened not far from us. Yikes!!
Mean people suck because they are these people in positions of power who like to make other people feel bad, then it gets passed on down the line and I’m tired of crying at work.
Today was better, but then the person who made me cry yesterday (who I usually like) was working her tail off in the 85 degree heat, doing all sorts of carry outs because they were short-handed. I’m talking, like, dozens of pavers and bags of mulch and stuff. A manager comes up and asks her about something that she didn’t have the bandwidth to deal with and she was trying to be helpful and said, “I think…” His response: “You think or you know?”
That is sooo degrading and unnecessary. He wasn’t being funny or anything. Just condescending. Usually the guy beneath him is out there always trying to figure out what he can find to fault us about. Then he tries to do some of the work, just throws product out there whereever he wants, then boasts that he did all this work. Yeah, and in our SPARE time we’re going to have to FIX it because it’s WRONG!!
Boy, I hope noone there is on this site ha ha! CT: You are SWORN TO SECRECY on these comments…since they are happening in your hometown!!
Manic: Waffle House here can’t be racist. The chefs are black and the waiters are black or have apparently been in special needs classes. We wait to see how close they come to getting the order right. We get the food as it’s cooked…not all together. If one of us wanted cheese on the eggs and didn’t get it, we know to look to the other’s order and see if they have it, then we switch food. It’s just funny and the people are lovable and we tip extra and compliment them. My daughter refuses to go when she’s here. But we just really enjoy it.
LLH: that’s great about Mathias and so cool they were featured in the newsletter!!! Sour cream in mashed potatoes? Sounds amazing!!
Wow. I may be all caught up
Yay Leopold and Yohio!
MB – Don’t worry; I would never rat you out! lol. I’ve had that “Do you think or do you KNOW” BS pulled on me at the end of a long shift before… Most of the time it felt really hurtful.. I had one job where I started to really resent it and blurted out that the only thing I knew for sure was that I had to finish what I was doing, and that the “it” in question would have to wait if they wanted my work done… Needless to say that manager and I did not get along well.. and eventually she made the mistake of asking me if I wanted to work there or not. Imagine her surprise when I very calmly told her, “No. not really,” and went back to my work. I put in for my 2 weeks vacation, then once it was approved (which normally would get cut short 2 days in by “Can you come in?”) I put in my 2 weeks notice. Done and done! ![]()
Leopold isn’t all that enthusiastic about hay right now, but I did set out some willow leaves and he ate some of those. I offered him some more simethicone and he thumped at me. He NEVER thumps. LOL
Oh Megabunny, you can’t worry about condescending people. Even if they are a person of authority. I had to deal with that when I worked retail and it’s no fun. But then I remember how pathetic they are and I don’t worry about it anymore.
Ok, these chats are soo fast! I cant come on in the day, because I got school then by the time I get back you guys are 5pgs ahead!
more on the subjest of mashed potatoes: I LOVEmine with corn!!!! I just put some corn on mix it in and enjoy! I Love it! But my family thinks i’m a little weird…
Lola – My father-in-law wants peas in his. Huh? o_O Definitely weirder than corn. LOL
I *HATE* peas!! And I don’t really like any soup unless it’s milk based (like chowders, broccoli and cheese, ham and cheese). But you know what is absolutely horrible? PEA SOUP! YUCK!
Yay for Leopold! ![]()
15 pages already! I need to catchup!
Megabunny — Just tell him “I know I think all the time and in this case I think I know”!!
I only like milk/cream based soups too!!! My hubby mixes his veggies with his potatoes too. When I serve him his dinner, I make a ring of mashed potatoes (sometimes in the shape of a grin) and fill it with whatever veggie we’re having. He likes it all mixed in because then he doesn’t have to be careful with the veggies falling off the fork. -shakes head-
Manic, it makes so much sense though. Stroke of Genius!
Duplicate post -_-
Other than biscuits and sausage gravy, I don’t like my food to “touch” so I could never put other veggies in or on my mashed potatoes! Hubby and son do it to make me cringe. I don’t haveva problem with things that are normal ingredients in dishes, but peas and corn are not normal ingredients in mashed potatoes so nope, don’t even want to think about it!
JR – You need to be introduced to Shepard’s pie! Then you’ll change your mind about potatoes touching veggies!
Wow you guys are crazy fast!!! To chime in on food I’m having Cracker Barrel for dinner tonight lol!
AH it’s funny you mention Denny’s I knew your sons name and never thought of the restaurant Denny’s being the same lol! I’m a dork.
I’m not a big fan of my food mixing if it’s not supposed to. But I like Shepherds pie and other foods that touch (like pie, biscuits and gravy ect.). ![]()
My food needs to stay separate and I like to eat one thing at a time. I remember when I was a kid, I was watching my uncle shovel food into his mouth and everything was mixing together on the plate. I was looking at him in disgust and he said “it all ends up in the same place anyway”. He always thought I was so weird for eating one thing at a time. Yes it all ends up in the same place, but what you’re tasting while it’s in your mouth is what matters. I don’t like weird combinations of tastes all at once. I think I taste things differently than a lot of people though. Like I will be eating something and think it’s fine, but my husband will complain that it has “no flavor”.
The thought of Shepard’s pie makes me cringe! I would go crazy trying to separate everything and scrape away the parts that had “touched”! I’ve even been known to tuck a little napkin under one side of my plate to tilt it so that juices from one food wouldn’t run into another food!
OMG JR, YES!!!!
LBJ, it sounds like you might be a supertaster! (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Supertaster)
I mix everything in with my mash. Corn and pea mash drowned in brown gravy is delicious! When I had my wisdom teeth taken out a few weeks ago I even shoved avocado and garlic sauce into my mash (no gravy) because I was getting so bored of just mash and gravy. It was surprisingly good. I’ve been meaning to make shepherd’s pie for ages!
American biscuits are very similar to British scones. I think the main difference between them is the way they’re served. Both are yummy though! I did find this: http://www.quora.com/What-is-the-difference-between-a-British-scone-and-an-American-biscuit and the people on there explain it better than I can.
American scones are gross. They’re always so hard and dry. Just no.
I was raised by a British mother so I think of biscuits more as hard cookies (like digestives, shortbread, and dog treats lol) and Southern biscuits as dense, crumbly rolls. I remember when I was a kid, I was eating over at a friend’s house and they asked me if I wanted some biscuits. I’d never heard of Southern biscuits before so I was so confused when that’s what they brought out. lol
I like vinegar on Brussels sprouts and boiled cabbage…
My 1 year BB anniversary is tomorrow. I can’t believe I’ve been on here and known a lot of you for a year already!

Re: Supertasters
from that wiki article: Any evolutionary advantage to supertasting is unclear. In some environments, heightened taste response, particularly to bitterness, would represent an important advantage in avoiding potentially toxic plant alkaloids.
I would venture that evolutionary-wise, it would have been VERY important to people who were medicine women (or men!) or shaman. That’s pretty interesting! You guys might come from a long line of highly respected members of the medicine world!

YES! Thank you!
The thing you Americans are putting with gravy is basically a scone which you eat with jam and cream.
You rookies are eating wrong, haha!
On another note to those of you who are saying you have to separate your food, I know it’s not an uncommon disorder but that’s pretty strange! Is there any food you would be comfortable mixing?
Tessie! We put jam and butter on biscuits too!
I’ve never had my biscuit with jam, I don’t think I’d like it!! Either buttered or plain. That’s it.
I’m going bowling with some friends tomorrow, my friend and I are pretty much gonna turn the whole thing into a worst bowler contest
We’re so bad at it!! Lol.
I’ve eaten biscuits with about everything, gravy, honey, jam, butter. lol. ![]()
Oh really, so you might have it with jam? How interesting!
About the food mixing – my husband always mixes his food together into what can only be slop. Its really bad if we have had Mexican. All mooshed together. My dad was the same way. Yuck lol
Tessie– They aren’t scones though! The only thing I can recommend to you is to find a recipe online and bake some! Then you can decide for yourself.
(I personally like Buttermilk biscuits or flaky biscuits, but I wouldn’t try baking flaky biscuits for your first biscuit ever. They most likely won’t turn out right!
)
But MissGabbster said she’s had British scones and American biscuits and they’re the same!
American scones (triangle) and American biscuits (round)

American scones are triangles (as seen in the photo) and are kinda like a cake type thing that isn’t overly sweet and are hardish. American Biscuits are round, NOT SWEET, kinda like heavy/crumbly rolls. Biscuits are NOT scones!!
Biscuits and scones are not the same! Do you not have Pilsbury biscuit dough over there?
I love Pillsbury biscuits
Just stepped on a random piece of glass >:/ Must have been from a broken glass or something.
Okay guys I’m at a total loss and need suggestions!
So I’m babysitting some kids during sports games. I have a smallish but long strip of gym we can use. The rest is occupied by the game. The kids are young (in between the ages of 5-10 and usually around 3 show up). I need to come up with some games/activities to play that are very cheap/no cost, as I’m not making enough money doing this to really put much into it.
We can’t kick balls around because they’ll go into the game and we could get in trouble because somebody could trip over the ball and get injured. It can’t be messy (like painting) or have liquids involved really. (I got tackled by a young child while blowing bubbles because the child was trying to pop the bubbles before they even came out of the wand and spilled bubble solution everywhere.) They can’t sit still long enough for me to read more then one short book, they are very energetic children. Also they kinda want us to stay quiet.
Playing hot potato, tag, freeze tag, TV tag or duck duck goose gets kinda old considering we are there for a few hours. The kids get bored/restless and start bickering and I get stressed trying to create new games on the spot. I am determined to be prepared next week lol!
I do enjoy watching the kids though, but I’m horrible at coming up with ideas! ha ha ha!
I thought maybe people who have done these things or have children might have some ideas/tips.
Ouch MK! I hate it when that happens!
Moxie- why not involve the kids? Have things prepared, but let them come up with their own games, before. State the rules and see what they come up with
If they can’t think of anything, or don’t want to do it you can take over. Also, you could come up with an activity that is ongoing, like a story you are all writing or a huge poster you are all doing. that would keep them interested for several sessions/days. You could issue them each a section of the poster, and have them do different animals, or better yet, let them make a fun poster about caring for bunnies!
Hmm, that’s an interesting Idea MK.
Any ideas on supplies I could bring for them to invent their own games? ooh, or, maybe we could get a big piece of cardboard and make our own board game?
I would bring markers, cardboard, and maybe glue or glue sticks. make your own board game sounds perfect! Oh I know, you could print out game pieces, like these : http://educationalcreativity.blogspot.com/2011/06/stand-up-characters.html
You could instead cut out different shapes from cardboard or cardstock, and have the kids each decorate them so they have a personalized game piece.
Are you allowed to make a castle or a fort with the couch cushions? LOL
As for super tasting, I always thought it was linked to tasting things that are bitter. I typically don’t have a problem eating broccoli. I remember when I was in elementary school, the teacher had these paper strips and everyone was supposed to taste it. If you tasted something bitter, then you had the ability to taste some chemical (presumably meaning you were a super taster). Oddly enough, I don’t recall actually tasting anything except paper. And yes, paper has a very distinct taste. The wikipedia article talks about cheese, but I LOVE cheese. OMG, do I love cheese. I can’t drink coffee or tea and I can’t drink beer. They taste absolutely horrible to me. And vinegar. Absolutely nothing with vinegar in it. I just can’t stand it. So no ketchup for me.
But yes, it does seem as though things have more flavor to me. My husband tells me that a plain hamburger tastes like nothing. A plain hamburger has a very distinct taste to me. I also eat plain rice all the time.
Some of you may have noticed….. I’m keen for someone to name their bunny Henrietta, ha ha ha!
I am determined and won’t give up till some new (unsuspecting) BBer does! I don’t care how many years it may take me…..
LOL!
But then there would be 2 Henry’s.
A very happy ending …..
About 30 minutes after the owner had driven through our neighborhood looking for his lost dog, the dog wandered into our backyard (my son had accidently left the back gate open). Hubby hadn’t gotten any info from the owner, just knew the guy was driving a gray suv, that the dog was black/brown/white and about 100 lbs and named Bear. We got the gates closed so he wouldn’t get away. The dog was terrified and wouldn’t hubby get near him so we started calling around and hubby posted on the SPCA site. He stayed home still trying to coax the fog from behind our shed to try to see his tags for a phone number and I got in the car and started driving around looking for anyone in a gray suv looking for a lost dog. Its damp and rainy and there was no way we were letting him stay out in this weather overnight. All I could think about was if it had been Mysti, what I would have hoped someone would have done.
After just under two hours of driving, crying because the poor dog was scared and lost, and scaring the crap out of people in gray suv’s, hubby called and said the owners retrieved his message on the SPCA site and were at our house. Turns out the dog was adopted from a rescue back in January and the owners were staying with relatives in our neighborhood while work was being done on their house about 10 miles away and the dog had gotten out this morning. They had been looking for him for straight for 11 hours and there had been sitings over about a 4 mile radius — the dog had even crossed a 6 lane divided highway twice!
When I got back to the house, the dog’s “mom” was just getting there. The husband had the dog on a leash, but when the dog saw the mom, he turned into a 100 lb baby and was all over her, crying and licking and jumping. It was one of the happiest sights I ever seen. I just love a happy ending!
Aww, that’s so wonderful JR! Happy he was reunited with his family. =)
I’ve cried so much tonight — both sad and happy cries — that my eyes are burning now!
Oh gosh JR – now I’ve got tears in my eyes….. ‘happy tears’!
Heard this HUGE bang (scared the crap out of us!) and we lost power. Had to happen while I had the washing machine and dish washer running, cooking lunch and I lost internet connection – SIGH!
No LBJ – one Henry and one ‘Henrietta’, ha ha ha ha…..
I make (American) scones that are delicious and not at all hard and dry! And definitely very different from biscuits.
JR, what a stressful experience for the dog and everyone involved. Glad there was a happy ending. ![]()
We took in a lost dog once. Our dog’s went crazy barking at the front door and she wouldn’t leave. So in she came….. (lol! I promise, we weren’t going to keep her???).
I put a sign on our front fence – dog found! Ha ha ha…..
A few hours later I had a frantic lady knocking on our front door. While she was looking for her, a man taking a walk said he saw our sign. The lady was so relieved we took her in, apparently she was deaf and not street smart and could have easily been run over.
I got a lovely thank you card in my mailbox the next week. BIG smile!
PS – I’m with Tessie on the scone thing…. and only eat mine served with jam and cream, YUMMY!
LBJ — Love cheese, tea, coffee. No to the beer (I can’t even stand the smell of beer). Paper does have a taste, and I could taste the paper strip in school. I can’t do certain textures in food — nothing slimy or gritty, and jello makes me gag. The weird thing is that I can smell things long before most people I know can, and things seem to smell stronger to me. We had a small fire at work years ago and my eyes were watering and I had to pull my shirt up over my nose while everyone else in the room couldn’t smell anything until someone opened the door to tell us about the fire at the other end of the building. Where cologne and I can follow your path 20 minutes behind you. Pass gas in my family room and I’ll have every window and door open and ceiling fan going to air out the room! Funny though, I cannot smell stink bugs at all.
While we didn’t have power for the last couple of hours and nothing to distract us, I thought it was a good chance to have a chat to the hubby about a few things….. I thought he was going to leave for work 2 hours early??? LOL!
And I hate to admit this, even I was lost. While everything was half way through, I couldn’t even spend the time wisely on BB??? Amazing how much I have become so dependant on the internet. I had to run the washing machine again, I wasn’t sure what part of the cycle it was on when I switched it off at the point? But the dishwasher kicked in again – and the lunch I was cooking? The hubby has left for work, so guess what he’s getting tomorrow? Ha ha ha! Good thing I had breadrolls in the freezer, I was able to make him rolls to eat so I didn’t make him starve.
And poor Blair! He didn’t know what to do when the dvd player and tv switched off, ha ha ha!
I can’t believe how we all rely on electricity to get by…….
AH — we lost power for five days after a hurricane knocked out the power. Within a week, we had a whole house generator installation scheduled!
Honestly, if the hubby ever has to endure another ‘lets take the time to have a chat’ again – I guarantee you, my hubby will do the same!
I’m sure if he could have accessed the internet, he would have been searching for one while I was talking to him……
LOL!
Edit to ADD – Do you know (I’m sure you do…) how frustrating it is trying to have a serious talk and my hubby is playing with his phone or pad saying “I am listening to you” – SIGH!
Even worse – ‘How do I look?’, “great!” – ‘it would help if you actually stopped looking at the screen and looked at me for a minute’….
I GIVE UP! ![]()
i love this community so much ![]()
Cheers TheInsaneHyena….. Welcome and thanks from all of us!

TESSIE!!! I hope you see this……
Teddy’s dad is Darius??? If so – he is featuring in an Aussie magazine this month! Super EXCITED!
I can’t wait to tell everyone that I ‘own’ his son, he he he he he he………I’m sorry, I must have missed this post Andi!
Yes Darius is Teddy’s dad
he’s a nice bunny, I met him when I bought Theodore!
Trust me to remember, ha ha ha! As soon as I saw it, I excitedly said to the hubby, that’s Teddy’s dad!!!
It was like I met a Superstar, ha ha ha…. When we go back to the shops on Sunday, I’ll buy a copy and take a pic of the article and post it.
You all may think I’m being silly, but I reckon it’s SO cool!
Lol!

American scones (triangle) and American biscuits (round)![]()
(The pictures not working but whatever)
But that’s prcisely my point, that is not a scone! (You can call it that but it doesn’t make it one)
A scone is ROUND, not sweet, and is like a heavy dense cake or bread.

Awww that’s sweet, you’re not silly, Teddy is worth it, hahaha ![]()
I’m with ya Tessie! That triangle thing is NOT a scone! The round one’s are – does the thought of someone pouring gravy over one make you say YUCK! Lol!
Besides jam and cream on mine, honey is also YUM!
PS – Don’t mention eating ‘anything’ with butter on top – I don’t and can’t eat butter! GROSS! When I make sandwiches for the family and get a bit of butter on my finger, I have to wash my hands with soap before I can continue – ICK!!!
If you remember Tessie (LOL!) you posted you got Teddy and before I replied on your thread to say ‘yay/congrats’, I raced to the ‘stealing bunny thread’ before anyone else saw and I STOLE him! I was/am desperate to OWN a HUGE bunny, ha ha ha ha!
Then I calmly returned to your thread to say ‘yay/congrats on getting Teddy (Theodore)…. and BTW I stole him!’
LOL!
Oh Andi you’re so funny!
What time of day is it where you are? You’re not usually online when I am
Ummmm – right now it’s 6.52pm, Friday night. Thinking hard (ouch!) about opening a bottle of wine, ha ha ha……
The hubby is at work and Blair is in the lounge room, so I’m sorta home alone. Actually, I’m trying to decide what I want to listen to tonight (music), cause we all know – I am going to open that bottle of wine….. ![]()
Just cause I know your all wondering (NOT, ha ha!), I decided on listening to Pink tonight. And if I get out of control, I might put my music on shuffle???
LOL!
PS – OMG, how could I forget…. MB! I would do anything to sing along (very loudly) to Barry Manilow in the car with you!
Copacabana anyone??? No??? What about Mandy or I write the song’s….. let me know and I’ll play it next, ha ha ha!
I have officially been on BB for a year! ![]()
And our chicks will be here in 5 days! ![]()
Congratulations Moxie!!! Well done for putting up with us for a whole year….. ha ha ha!
Sooooo……. Are you going to call one of your new baby girls Henrietta??? No big deal, just wondering…….
LOL!
I’m so sleepy today and I’m trying to write my dissertation and I just have NO motivation ![]()
Ha ha, well done for putting up with ME for a whole year! ha ha ha!
It depends, it looks like Jess (The one with that light colored lionhead?) Is thinking about naming her bun Henrietta!
Lol Tessie! I’ll just have to give up! Scones were first invented in Scotland so you are technically right. Of course for me I’ll always think of a scone as a triangle…I love the poppy seed ones.
AH- don’t you even put butter on a baked potato??
Moxie- Congrats!!!

Why are there always those awkward situation where you think someone likes you, then they stop talking to you, and you’re not sure if they’re shy or ignoring you?
Biscuits are Biscuits. Scones are Scones. END. OF. STORY. Lol!
Thanks MK.
I’m sorry, but I can’t give you any guy advice. :'(

Why are there always those awkward situation where you think someone likes you, then they stop talking to you, and you’re not sure if they’re shy or ignoring you?
Ohh that sucks!
Care to share any more details on the situation?
Without getting into my sob stories of relationships (lol) I know how you are feeling!
One minute everything is cool, and then the next it’s like you don’t even exist! >.<
I met this guy, and for a while he seemed interested, but now he only says hi/bye. I’m the first to admit I probably should have talked to HIM more, so that sucks. Maybe he thought I was ignoring him, or maybe he just lost interest. I’m going bowling with him and other friends tonight, so I think I’ll just initiate the talking. I really want to be friends if nothing else, he’s a really awesome person.
MK— My best word of advice for you is do not let there be more then a few seconds of awkward silence. Obviously give him a chance to start new by SaverAddon” in_rurl=”http://s.ltmmty.com/click?v=VVM6ODc1NjY6MzI4NTpjb252ZXJzYXRpb25zOjU2NDAwYTk3YWUwMDlkZWEyYTRhMjM1OTU5OGU1YzNlOnotMTc1MC0xMzg3Mjk1MDp3d3cuYmlua3lidW5ueS5jb206MjU3OTk4OjZhMDIyOGExOWNmODY1ZTYwYWYzM2U4NmM2Y2EzYWJiOmVhMjVmMDA3YmExNzQyMzg5NDU2OTE5Y2ViNmU3NWE2OjE6ZGF0YV9zcyw3Mjh4MTM2NjtkYXRhX2ZiLG5vOzo1MjEzMTk5&subid=g-13872950-6a6c3d2f32b14e26b8fc4c135aca9f18-&data_ss=728×1366&data_fb=no&data_tagname=BODY” id=”_GPLITA_5″ href=”#”>conversations
/talk but as soon as you can see it starting to get awkward start talking again, even if it’s something like “The weather has been crazy!” “Do you like your drink?” or if he’s new in town “So how do you like it here?”
It gets harder to start another conversation the longer there is awkward silence.
A few days ago I was babysitting and when we got back to their house the mother was putting the child to bed before she drove me back home. Well the brother of the child was told to keep me company (he’s about my age, maybe a year or 2 older) until she was ready. Man it was awkward at first! But he was trying to keep things not awkward by keeping the conversations rolling (even if I did most of the talking lol! I can talk too much…). Like after he warmed me up a roll/cinnamon bun thing he saw I was kinda just picking at it (it was boiling hot!) he said things like “You don’t like it?” or “Could I get you a drink?” Although those didn’t really get the conversation going, it helped break the ice so I could start talking (ha ha ha). We (‘I’) mostly (of course) talked about his and our pets.
That was literally one of the only conversations we’ve had, and things have gotten slightly less awkward. We still aren’t even really at the “Hi” in public stage, but I think we will gradually become Acquaintances (as long as I don’t have to start the conversations, but I can carry them on ha ha ha!)
But you see what I’m talking about? I talk/blab too much! (Although I “AM” a good listener).

Aw, MK that sucks! You never know why people go cold on you, there could be a hundred reasons! I agree with Moxie, just try and chat
Guys, everyone go do my accent thread, it’s gonna be so much fun!
MK — I’m going to have to disagree a little with Moxie on the awkward silences. Alot of guys don’t feel the need to be in the middle of a conversation all the time, especially if they’re someplace like bowling. Some of them see it as chattering — unless there’s been some earth changing event, I’d avoid small talk like the weather. If there’s something really cool to talk about, go for it.
JR– I was meaning more if it’s like just the 2 of them. Like, if it’s just them 2 at lets say dinner, awkward silence is very un-enjoyable.
But for bowling, let him bowl and enjoy himself, and if you two get to chat that’s great. Looking back at my post it seems like I’m saying “stalk him down and don’t stop talking.” But that’s not what I’m trying to say at all! Like I said, no good advice from me.
![]()
Heading over there now Tessie! ![]()
thanks guys! I’ll try my hardest to strike a balance
He’s pretty chatty himself though, lol.
Good luck! ![]()
Going to listen to Tessie’s accent again — her accent is so cute, almost as good as a bunny pic!

Going to listen to Tessie’s accent again — her accent is so cute, almost as good as a bunny pic!
You charmer ![]()
I want to hear your accent JR! You need to find a headset with an attached microphone or something!
I went back to the adoption center today to look at the little Harlequin. What a cutie! I almost pulled the trigger, but they were closing in like 15 minutes (their hours on their website were different, otherwise I wouldn’t have even gone so late). Plus there was 2 more cuties there that now I am feeling torn! Ha. I want ALLLL the bunnies!!
Take them all, Nora!! Lol my husbands motto is “No bun left behind”. ![]()
It went pretty good tonight!! We chatted and joked, I learned he is unattached (no I didn’t ask!) I sent him a fb friend request. So yeah
Nora- follow your heart! You should go and spend more time with each bunny.

If anyone has experience with renal failure this member needs some advice. ![]()
Aww Roberta, mr and mrs Rabbit =) How sweet of your mum!
Yay MK! ![]()
Those are cute pajamas! ![]()
Oh they are sweet PJ’s!
I feel like I’ve fallen into a money eating pit. Had to replace our dryer yesterday and outdoor power washer today. Bunny vet bill Thursday. Still have to have two trees cut down and re-seal the driveway. The inside of the house needs painting and the truck needs new head gasket seals. Then, we’re going to have to put up double fencing or figure out another way to keep the deer out if we want to do a garden this year. Ugh!
Ahh, got the bunny!! YAY!!
Nice Pjs Roberta!
Can’t wait to see what you decide Nora!
I like the way your hubby thinks BM!!
Ugh, JR, that’s so frustrating! When it rains, it pours!
Need to brag a little. Hit my personal best today! Ran 7 miles without stopping on my treadmill. I’m SO SORE! But trying to talk hubby into going for a walk b/c its really nice out!
Pumpkin is currently INSIDE the chaise lounge of the couch taking a nap. Poor Rocky doesn’t fit, so he’s decided to snooze right next to it and wait for her to come join him!
Wow, 7 miles and you still want to go for a walk? 😮 You’re crazy! haha
LLH: Wow, 7 miles! The farthest I’ve gone on the elliptical is 1.6 miles. You shame me! ![]()
Tessie: Great idea with the accent thread! Unfortunately, our stupid computer doesn’t like it, every time I click on it I get an error. It was okay yesterday, but now I can’t even look at it anymore.
We need a new computer.
JR: There’s always something, right? How annoying, I hope you can get it all figured out. I’m about to post some pictures in the picture thread, when you see our wallpaper you’ll feel better I bet. Even needing a new paint job, I’m sure your house still looks better!
I don’t know who lived here before us, but boy did they love flowery wallpaper and pink carpet. Oh, and pink tiles in the bathroom…
The walk was short-lived. I’m pretty sore.
Nora we posted at the same time. Which bunny did you get????!!
Wait! Go back! Nora, what bunny did you get?!?!?!?! =D =D =D
JR – Just break it down. One thing at a time, right?
Wow, I’m so sleepy. I woke up SO late today and my husband said I woke up screaming in the middle of the night several times. I don’t remember any of it! I just remember a dream about taking the vacuum wand to the school where I do my program at because I wanted it for lighting farts on fire as an experiment. LOL Oh my, my fellow BBers might actually get this reference. How terrible is that?
I would love to see a picture of the new bunny!
Law Bun – She made a new thread! So excited! https://binkybunny.com/FORUM/tabid/54/aft/137050/Default.aspx
Rocky was in the litter box eating hay when Pumpkin jumped in and meatloafed in the middle of the box. Seriously rude! He was forced to eat around her b/c she wouldn’t move out of the way!
Omgosh LBJ!!! Hahah was that you that was saying your hubby farted on you through a vacuum hose?!
LLH — give me a call and I’ll let Moshi have a talk with Rocky. When Marlee won’t move, Moshi will climb on top of her and make himself comfy — eat hay, drink water, doesn’t matter. He’ll even dig under her if the mood to dig strikes him and she won’t move! Then again, I’ve even posted a pic of Marlee sitting on Moshi so I guess that’s only fair!
LLH – Yeah, he used the vacuum wand from the shopvac. He actually sneaked up on me from behind, held one end of the wand up to my ear and the other end up to his butt. Completely surprised me. Startled me, actually. The sound was so piercing in my ear! AGH!
I know the bunny won’t move thing all too well. Leopold was literally peed on one time because Wooly needed to use the litter box and Leopold simply would not move out of the way.
JR and LBJ glad its not just Pumpkin! Rocky might need to have a chat with Moshi man to man so he can start sticking up for himself.
LBJ that is just too funny! And even funnier with your dream!!
LLH – Even more hilarious considering how I have no clue how that would even work. LOL
For some odd reason I woke up at 6:15 AM on my day off. Oh well, gonna just go with it! Going to work out, go the tanning bed (I only go about 5-10 times per year when I get ready for a vacation), go to a movie with hubby, and get a massage. Should be a nice day off!! Hope everyone else has (or had) a great Sunday!
That moment where you decide to dig out a pair of shorts because it’s going to be a nice day and you find that they won’t go past your hips when trying to put them on. I wore them last year, all the way through October! So in 6 months, I have somehow gotten too big for them. NOOOOOOOOOOO! =(
OMG LBJ – that happens to me in Spring after wearing my flanno pj’s all Winter. I can’t believe I am telling you this – but last Spring I forced my white shorts on while sucking my tummy in and holding my breath almost causing me to pass out. Once on I thought gee, I’m doing well. Then I sat down and my tummy fat sat over the top of my shorts, ha ha ha! I was mortified! But I was quite impressed the zipper didn’t give way???
AH – No amount of sucking it in was going to make me be able to button them. That’s because you can only suck in your stomach and it was my butt that was the problem. LOL
Oh you poor thing! LOL I can imagine sitting down wasn’t too comfortable either.
Nooooooo!!! I feel for both of you!! I’m not going anywhere near my shorts yet……..
I have no reason to go near my shorts yet, it’s still the seemingly never-ending season of hats, gloves and winter-boots here. Some years that season lasts all year round =(
But I know the feeling. It’s an intensely unpleasant one. But I had to laugh at the thought of sucking one’s butt in =)
The weather here has taken a lovely turn -spring has sprung in England! ![]()
So I’m pretty sure Butternut just ripped out a fart worthy of a frat house. >.< I was in the kitchen and I heard this "buuuuuurrrrrrr" and she popped her head around like "Did you hear something mom? What? It wasn't me!" Lol He who smelt it, dealt it Butternut. ![]()
BM — Mysti did that one time when she was young. It scared her and she jumped up fast and stared at her bed!
I am exhausted. I spent the night over at a friend’s house last night. We didn’t get to bed until after 1 AM and had to get up kinda early. Tomorrow I’ll be busy from about 7AM until 1 PM, then I need to get ready and go baby sitting until 9:30 ish PM. I’ll be on my feet all day. And Tuesday is busy too. My neck/shoulder is hurting. Not to complain or anything lol…
![]()
OMG, I just wanted to cry today. We were at my in-laws from 11:30 until 5pm! Why do we have to waste an entire day over there? AGH! Then, of course, my husband was being a butt and making comments implying that I’m pregnant. Way to make me feel fatter than I already am! I guess I need to go on a diet before other people start suspecting something. It’s even worse when strangers do it. I’m pretty sure I told you guys that story. The lady that called me “round”.
LBJ– I haven’t heard the story…
So somebody I know won the Principle’s award thing. ![]()
LBJ– I haven’t heard the story…
So somebody I know won the Principle’s award thing. ![]()
You haven’t heard this story Moxie?
I was working at my old (retail) job. I had a tray of earrings that I was balancing on my hip as I put them out on this large fixture in the aisle. A woman walked up and ask if I could check her out. I said sure and started leading her over to the counter. All of the sudden, she said “so how are you feeling?”. I thought that was weird, but cracked a smile anyway. Then she said “You know, besides feeling round”. So here I am thinking to myself “round? ROUND?!”. I’m sure I had this look on my face because then the lady said “oh nevermind. Don’t listen to me, I’m a silly old woman”. What the heck? Who says that to someone? Whether I was pregnant or not (I wasn’t!), it’s still a rude thing to say.
I totally agree with you there. Even if you were, you don’t know the person so why discuss a *personal* matter like that unless *you* wanted to?
OMG, Moxie, people just amaze me sometimes!
We saw duckies at the park today! You know, the typical mallards. They come back every year. But today, there was someone with them. There was a male blue winged teal swimming around with them.
Too tired to actually reply to all that’s gone on.. so I will just give an open invitation:
Anyone who wants to come with me to find a lovely field of daisies to scream in is welcome to join me!
Things aren’t that bad. I’m just going nuts packing… I think Zoey has already figured out what’s going on; but Pete and Tilly don’t know what’s coming… 0.o
Congrats Nora on your new bun! I’ll have to check out the thread before I sign back out into insanity-land. lol
So I may have somersaulted off a horse on Saturday…
My boss and I were out for a ride and I was practising my sitting trot. My boss told me that I was ready for a canter if I wanted to try- so I did.
Despite the horse I ride being *EXTREMELY* bouncy, I stayed on. But then the horse took off into a flat out gallop going round in circles, took off to one side but didn’t see the fence in front of him, stopped suddenly and I just pinged off the front, somersaulted and thankfully landed on my bum
Safe to say I had a bit of an adrenaline rush ha ha ha! I’m completely fine other than my muscles aching a bit
I got on again yesterday and practiced my canter (on a lunge line this time!) and I’m improving a lot
It’s still SO hard to say on, I can’t explain how bouncy this horse’s trot, canter and gallop are! 😮
Congrats on the new bunny, Nora!
LBJ- that is so rude, I would be fuming.
TMS, I’m glad you weren’t badly hurt.
LBJ, it was rude of the old lady but she probably didn’t mean to be insulting. At least. People who are deliberately mean are worse. She probably felt very stupid afterwards.
I’m surprised I wasn’t injured! I guess I was really lucky. I did well though, my boss said that even a professional would have gone flying off at a halt that quick
P.S- who likes my new avatar and siggy?
(They took me far too long to make, let’s not talk about that
)
Looks great! I need to redo mine, since I now have a decent camera, and not to mention two more buns.
You really were lucky not to injure yourself! Landing right on your butt like that, you could have easily broken your tailbone and that would have ended your riding! Glad you are okay!
TMS – They look great! I like your signature especially ![]()
Your ziggy is very nice! I’ll get one myself sometime soon since I now have a much better camera. Prob is Bam doesn’t photograph well. Since he’s black most pics need a red arrow pointing at him and the text ATTENTION: BUNNY, because you can’t separate him from the background.
This is very sad for you guys since he’s an extremely cute bunny and you never get to see him in his full loveliness =)
TMS- I like your siggy! Very cute
Bam – Roxie has the same problem – she’s all black. Plus her fur is super shiny and dense, so she just looks like a shiny black blob with ears. Not really a bunny lol
TMS I like the new signature. Are your bunnies larger by chance? They are awesome looking but definitely look on the larger breed size (but pictures can be deceiving).
Either way I think this is the season for bunny lovers to dive into insanity. The moving, the rude people, and for some of us the dreaded final season :/ (followed shortly by the BAR exam
)
I don’t really have much to compare them to but I’d say they’re medium sized? I’ll try and remember to take a picture of them next to a tissue box and fizzy juice can at some point ![]()
bam— Take a photo of Bam against a light background/sheet. ![]()
TMS— I love your new siggy!
(I mentioned it in the accent thread.)
The spacebar on my keyboard is sticking so it takes forever to type! :^/
Thanks MM!
it took me far too long to make ha ha ha!
I’m going to try and have a productive day tomorrow! I think I’ll try and paint my nails, do some studying and record and edit at least one video for my YouTube channel
I totally slacked off with my blog and YouTube channel for a while but I’m determined to get back on track!
Bam–I have the same problem with Rocky. He really is even cuter than his pictures show. With Pumpkin being so photogenic, I struggle with Rocky.
Love the siggy TMS!
Yep, it’s hard to take good pictures when they are dark colored. Mine are both black and white, but mostly black so their facial features don’t show up well. Hmm, I guess I shouldn’t say that. Wooly does have tiny rings around his eyes that are lighter (his base coloring is black otter). Unfortunately, sometimes it looks like he is bald around his eyes when I take a picture. His poking out third eyelid on the one eye doesn’t help that either. =\
TMS – Your signature is wonderful! =)
Wow, I was so hungry at work and after work. I’m trying to not eat a lot so I just take fruits and veggies and maybe some multi-grain chips to work. I’ve been drinking water while I’m there, steering clear of the evil machine in the hallway. When I get home though, I’m starving. And my husband won’t eat lunch until like 2pm, so he won’t be hungry at all. AGH! I wish I could exercise more during work too. I have never sat in a chair all day. When I worked retail, I was required to stand. When I was at my old job, I was up and walking all the time. There were trails to check, gates to unlock/lock, and animals to care for. Now here I am sitting in a chair all day and I can’t stand it. I can’t imagine it is good for my unidentified neurological issues either. I always thought moving around helped. *sigh* I’m just going to keep getting fatter, aren’t I?
LBJ — I hate sitting all day. Usually I’m only at my desk less than half the time, but when I’m working on a project I’m sitting alot more. I have a bad habit of folding one leg up under me in the chair which doesn’t help anything! It also doesn’t help that 3 of us keep candy jars on our desks for everyone to help themselves to. I try to buy things I don’t really like (Hershey’s miniatures, kisses. anything dark chocolate), but one of the others tries to keep me happy with things you don’t find very often like bit o honey and bite sized heath bars.

I have a bad habit of folding one leg up under me in the chair
OMG! That’s how I sit at my desk/computer – you have no idea how many times my leg/foot falls asleep and I can barely walk when I get up. But I can’t help it – that’s how I sit at my desk….. ![]()
Jack– first let me say how delicious bits of honey are! My gosh I would double in size with 3 candy jars near me, I am just a sucker for candy. And when hey are bite sized, I have that. Mentality that “oh I can afford to eat like 3 and still be ok!” And then 10 bars later…. We all know where it leads
Lbj- I’ve had to lose like 25 lbs for the army and as a student/huge video gamer I also found that it was difficult always being sedentary. But honestly, I’ve done it by rating one huge (1000 calorie) meal at lunch, then doing a shake before work out, and then work out then a bag of popcorn at night. Most pele don’t know just how healthy popcorn cn be. Also I recommend chipotle as a dining out of choice. The burrito bowls can be quite healthy if you skip the sour cream and guac!
One good idea would be to start a weight loss thread on BB! It helps so much when others post everyday with their struggles, successes, and failures. And plenty of people need the support. A simple lounge thread would be a nice start, always easier when you know others are going through the same experience!
Law Bun — no sour cream?! That would be like chips without the salsa, a salad with no dressing, or . . . . cake without icing!!!
AH — I know the stiff walk and the sparkly foot well! Yep, soul sisters!
TOLD YOU! Ha ha ha ha……
Edit to ADD – LOL! As quick as I hit submit, I looked down and there is my foot – sticking out from under my other leg near my bottom
! I didn’t even realise I was sitting like that as I typed – I swear my foot is going to fall off from having no blood circulation
Lol!
AH — I think the bigger concern here is whether or not there is a shoe on the foot when it falls off and touches the floor! ![]()
Candy… I love candy. I never realized how much until we cut it all out last year. The only candy I got now is strawberry jam. I know I eat too much of it but it’s the only sweet thing in the house! What wouldn’t I give for a piece of chocolate cake…
Apparently I’m not the only one who is tired of the drama at work . . . One of the other managers (the “new” guy) actually asked me today what the policy was on bourbon is private offices! He was only half joking!
Yes, there is a ‘thong’ on BOTH my feet, even when the other one is tucked under the other leg, ha ha ha!
Your gonna hate me Hazel – I don’t have a sweet tooth. Yes, I eat sweet stuff when it’s there, but otherwise, I’ll eat (salty) Vegemite on toast way before I eat jam, ha ha ha! Last night I wanted a snack so I grabbed some Cheezles (cheese flavoured puffy chip snack??? Lol!) and as quick as I opened the bag Henry jumped on the bed and demanded a bit from everyone I ate…..
I never thought I’d see the day I ‘had’ to share my snack food with a bunny??? Ha ha ha!
Except for Blair’s Easter egg’s still sitting in the fridge, I have no other sweets in the house and it doesn’t bother me in the slightest. Was I right? Do you hate me? LOL!
I can go without candy just fine. It’s the carbs I crave. I want pasta, pasta, and more pasta! Oh and french fries. I love french fries.
I’m the same LBJ – I crave all the other naughty food! My healthy meat and veg is smothered in gravy, my salad in dressing, I cook roast pork for the ‘crackling’ and my spaghetti bolognaise is covered in grated tasty cheese with a crusty bread roll. My snack food consists of chips or savoury biscults with dip, and have been known to toast ‘white’ bread at 11pm.
I bought a chocolate bar for myself once cause it was on special and it sat in the pantry till Denny ate it months later, ha ha ha! BUT I will admit, I sometimes crave a something sweet/chocolate just before getting my period – why I like to have something sweet around just in case, ha ha ha! That’s why I always keep a jar of strawberry jam in the fridge. Lol!
PS – BTW, my lack of a sweet tooth hasn’t wiped off on my hubby – he has a drawer full at ALL times!
OMG, cheese!!!! I love cheese!
I’m on a diet ![]()
Ohhh Tessie – I should be! But I’m old and married…… my hubby lost his hair, so I can have a tummy!
Ha ha ha ha ha…….
PS – Don’t tell my hubby I said that! I will deny it! LOL!
I ate entire bag of Dove dark chocolates this weekend
My sweet tooth comes and goes! Hopefully its gone for awhile!
Everyone is talking about food I am soo hungry right now. I really like pizza it seems to be the only thing that I crave. I also get cravings for Mc Donalds fries. I still have yet to get a take out pizza. I know we talked about pizza awhile ago.
Everyone seems to be up to a lot. Its hard to keep up with this thread. I also have been pretty active and busy.Hubby and I went and tried to find a good place to fish. We haven’t had luck. My sister in law had her 40th birthday party we went to this weekend and stayed out overnight. We stayed up and out until 2 in the morning. I haven’t done that in years. I hate leaving the rabbits and their room was a huge mess as I expected. Usagi tears everything apart when I am gone. I tried to make sure they had plenty of things to do and it was just over night but the room was a huge mess. He was really happy to see me and jumped about 3 feet in the air and doing binkies. He usually doesn’t jump high like that. Kilala just wanted her breakfast. Yesterday I went and got braces. Fun stuff to do when you are 42. Today I am hoping to catch up on work and BB of course.
Andi! I thought of you this weekend. My hubby and I were getting some pizza this weekend and we were waiting at the pizza place for it to be done and this group of guys walked in all barefoot. Their feet were BLACK from being so dirty I looked at my hubby and said “wow Andi would have a heart attack right now!” Lol. Their feet were so gross I almost lost my appetite.
Speaking of food and sweets I am a HUGE chocolate person. I have zero self control with chocolate I always keep it on me, so bad.
I hope everyone is doing well, I keep up on the thread by the email notifications, lol.
LOL! I have chatted so much tonight that I hit the 4000 post mark (4011 to be accurate) and I didn’t even notice, ha ha ha!
2am Sindriona??? Good for you! Your not picking up my bad habits I hope? Lol! How lovely that at least Usagi missed you – I can’t imagine Henry missing me? I could just hear him “oh, your back…” ha ha ha! I can imagine your mouth is sore with your new braces? My poor daughter had to suffer the head brace too – she had an overbite. Take care when they tighten them and have soft food ready – my daughter ate everything soaked (till it was soggy) in gravy.
Dark chocolate Justina??? I could never take to dark chocolate – I have to admit I’m a bit of a sucker for white chocolate when I’m up for some.
GOSH! Before I forget, I love your new siggy Midnight – well done!
I need to get everything into this last post for the night, I feel a bit self conscious (talking to much again) with all my posts, ha ha ha!
Ni night everyone!
LOL BM14 – sooo funny! (I am trying to laugh quietly, my hubby is already in bed asleep). And yes, I would have had a fit and said ‘where are your shoes?’! Ha ha ha ha….
Ok ok – I’m going to bed! Lol!

No, I don’t hate you AndHenry! Now if it was the opposite and you had a pantry full of candy, THEN I would hate you!
I guess that means I hate your hubby and his drawer full of candy…?
I can’t do the accent thing, that website keeps making our computer freeze, plugins are crashing. As soon as one of you posts a link, I can’t even access the thread anymore (which is why I’m posting this here). I can’t listen to any of yours, either. ![]()
JR: I didn’t know you worked with Jack Sparrow?! AndHenry will be jealous! ![]()
Guys, its the first proper day of nice weather here (21 degrees C) so I thought I’d break in my sandals for the summer…
Now I have blisters and my feet are burning
I’m all sore AND my dissertation is going SO slowly. ![]()
Not had a very productive day, ha ha ha! I only recorded, edited and uploaded one YouTube video and I’ve not painted my nails or done any studying. Oops ![]()
I should be on a diet (or just exercising more) but it’s hard when you aren’t the one buying food and you have other people living with you so a lot of the food is cheap and packed with carbs. And it’s like -10 F (-23.333 C) during the winter for a *GOOD* day.
I always slim down in the summer and get chunky in the winter. :^/ Although since it’s been warmer I’ve noticed I have been eating less so hopefully I’ll slim down again.
My fur-babies are not being helpful today.
I’m dead on my feet, trying to get motivated to keep packing and go do the shopping… Meanwhile, Zoey is curled up in a banana box sleeping; Peter is stretched out behind the couch; and here comes Tilly… She walks over to me, yawns, then FLOPS full force onto my foot and goes to sleep like she just expects me to stay there for the rest of the day and be her body-pillow.
Tessie blisters are the worst. I feel your pain. (((vibes for your poor feet))) I usually get those too when I first get out my spring and summer sandals.
AH I saw a Jack Sparrow birthday card this past weekend and it made me instantly think of you. I had to tell you that. I am not picking up on your bad habits just yet. I will probably not stay up that late again for a good while. hehe I tell you what there are a lot of weirdos out at that time of the night. Also it was prom night for a bunch of the kids. I was seeing girls in prom dresses everywhere. Congrats on your 4013 posts as well!
Since we are on the subject of chocolate and candy. I really miss things that are chocolate and mint. Blue Bell ice cream makes my favorite ice cream flavor which is mint chocolate chip. I haven’t eaten it in a few years but its still my favorite. I recently picked up some greek yogurt that was mint with chocolate chips in it. It was really good.
So tomorrow is “one day without shoes”. There was a story on the news tonight about it where people were walking to raise awareness and to donate money……. but then they showed all of these people doing their march and they had shoes on. I thought the whole point was to demonstrate what it is like to go without shoes.
I feel for this kid. It’s like when I sat down earlier and thought it was so nice that Pete was coming over… just to discover that he had gotten hold of my lemon cookie and eaten half of it… he was only coming back to finish the job. *sigh*

I apologize for not really responding with any relevance to the thread.. but I”m wiped out, and basically signed on to share a video and whine about my cookie.
LBJ – That sounds kind of like the Relay for Life. The basic idea was to raise money and awareness; but during the actual event you’re meant to keep walking all night.. and by the end of it you’re tired, your sore, and you’ve probably given up several times throughout the night—or near it—but at the end the sun rises and you’re still there and you can rest. You get an idea of what the struggle is like, albeit abbreviated and symbolic. Most times it’s done in teams taking shifts though, so you’re not actually that worn by the end.. and some just do the fundraising part and not the relay part. Still, thought that counts, right?
Sorry to butt in out of the blue moon and halting your talks but I just had to share this with you guys!! Actually I am not sorry at all! because YOU ALL HAVE TO SEE IT!
To people who are familiar with Game of Throne will know this…although hope others will also find it funny too! I came across this while on 9gag and had to share this with you all!!![]()

Oh.My.Gosh.
Tokii that is THE best thing I have EVER seen!
I KNOW!! RIGHT ! RIGHT!!
Imagine if they really do rule us!! hahaha
Why imagine, Tokii? They DO rule us =)
That is a PERFECT picture! Won’t show it to the buns or they will command me to build carrot-thrones for them.
How did they get the bunny to sit still? Genious!!
LBJ–don’t let Andi hear about this no shoe madness!
We got 17 of our chicks in the mail today!!
(Although 5 are going to a friend).
We almost had a few DOA’s. (Dead On Arrival). But we took all of the almost DOAs and put them under their own heat lamp and watching them closely and giving them water with special (electrolytes?) stuff in it. So they’ve been under Critical care basically all morning. They seem to be making a come back (the worst 2 who were literally on the brink of death were able to go back with the healthy chicks.) The first 48 hours is hard for any of them though. That’s when there’s the biggest risk of losing them. But so far they’re all alive and doing okay! And they are really cute! But am waiting a week before naming ect.

In the mail?!
Like, in the post?
Like, in a box…?
People put chicks in the post? ![]()
Sounds odd to me too Tessie but yes, chicks in the mail.
A guy who used to have the office across the hall from mine used to raise chickens and he got them through the mail. I heard strange noises coming from his office one day — opened the door and there were baby chicks everywhere! He didn’t have time to take them straight home so he set up a heat lamp and let them hop around! I miss those days when we had fun people at work. Now people want to call Human Resources over every little fart and we don’t get near as much work done because of time taken to handle complaints. Miserable people could use some chicks in their lives!
Tessie— Yes in the mail. Large hatcheries hatch out lots of chicks. There is normally a minimum you can order especially in the winter time. Chicks are mailed out the day they hatch because they still have yolk inside of them for about 3 days so they can survive without food or water during that time. Normally hatcheries try to over night them so it only takes a day or two. Although it’s not the best way, that’s how stores get their chicks in stock and how a lot of people do it. Also if you get the chicks in the mail you can request to have them vaccinated for fatal illness like merics. (If 1 chicken gets merics you sometimes have to kill your whole flock. It’s horrible.) So it is a common practice. ![]()
How interesting!
And are they like… in a box?
Is it special post or the normal post?
Yup Tessie. They are in a box with air holes, straw/bedding and sometimes Grow Gel. (A gel they can eat on the ride.) This is a pic I got online of a box of chicks that came in the mail:
Normally it’s regular post (like UPS) but a lot of places have you pic up the chicks at your local post office. ![]()
Gotta be better than bees in the mail
Yes, more people could definitely use chicks in their lives. Nothing cuter…except maybe ducklings, but those are so fun to hatch!
I didn’t know you could get chicks through the mail. I have heard of bees and lady bugs. When they make it past the first week and you name them post some pictures. I think baby chicks and ducks are cute. I like looking at them when they have them at the Tractor Supply. I think I missed them this year, or I will because I don’t need purchase any Carefresh for awhile and that’s what I buy there.
I got to meet a nice bunny-lady at the vet today. She was in with her little dog, Reese (like the peanut butter cup), but she told me that she had 7 buns and a couple cats at home as well. It was nice chatting with her, but in the haze of my brain I forgot to ask her if she had heard of BinkyBunny. I also saw a blue lop bunny of some sort heading out the door while I was waiting with Pete. Lots of cats and dogs at the vet today…
On the subject of living things in the mail… I almost forgot that I was going to help my Mom place an order for ladybugs this year! They used to be all over the neighborhood, but neighbors poisoned so much over the years that they’ve dwindled to practically nothing. :\
I think that one of the more creative things to send through the mail is just glitter. There is actually several different services where you can send glitter to your unsuspecting friends/enemies. BlizzardBomb.com is an interesting one in case you want to make a real mess with it! ![]()
Oh my gosh, I have now heard everything! Chicks in the mail! Bees in the mail! Ladybugs in the mail!
MM-I had no idea that they had yolk in them when they are born!! I guess I would have assumed they fed off their moms like mammals for some reason? I’m so intrigued! Will you get eggs from your chicks when they are older?
CT-Why would one want lady bugs?
JR-laughing at your comment that ppl call HR for “every little fart.” Too true though–people do need more chicks in their life. I wish I could bring my bunnies to work and let them hop around my office. Would make my days so much better. There’s always so much drama going on!
Lady bugs are great for your garden. The adults eat several types of aphid that wreck your flowering plants… and the young bugs are even better. Lady bug nymphs EAT fleas and flea eggs! When they swarmed years ago we didn’t have any problems with fleas despite having cats and dogs in and out constantly. Once the nymphs were gone from the house, the fleas exploded and were everywhere! We meant to get some last year, but by the time we got around to it the season had passed. This year I think I’ll actually order some though. ![]()
LOL! Only in America??? I can’t imagine sending anything live in the post, even though we joke about it (posting Henry to live with Roberta or Jersey), ha ha ha!
I never spray my garden (I’m too lazy! Lol!), but I don’t have any of the lovely bug’s or creature’s in my garden anymore, SAD face! I miss seeing ladybug’s, green frog’s and in December – Christmas beetles.
But I have grasshopper’s which are annoying me, eating my palm’s – naughty grasshopper’s!!!
We had 5 chicks in our “critical care” station. 2 made a come back, 1’s fate is undecided and 2 passed away. I was so sure they were all going to make it.
Definitely not naming them until they are a week old, but I might post pics soon (If I can get my smashed camera to work).
LLH— Chickens are not mammals, so they don’t drink milk. When they are born they *can* go 3 days without food/water (3 being the max) but it’s ideal you teach them to eat as soon as they hatch. They can start eating chicken feed as soon as they hatch. ![]()

Yes, chicks have a “built in” survival system to get them through the first few days of life outside the egg (in case food is scarce or they have trouble figuring out what to eat). This is true for other animals too. A lot of fish fry will still have the yoke attached for a few days after hatching, for example.
They can mail all kinds of insects for biological control purposes. It just depends on what the pest is that you need controlled. This is fine as long as the control agent is a native species. I know Silent Spring was a revolutionary book, but man was there some scary suggestions in there! (I still love you Rachel Carson!)
Aww, I’m sorry Moxie. You know, I’m sure there are a lot of chicks that don’t make it at the feed stores and whatnot either. People just don’t know about it. =\
So I did not get much of anything accomplished today. I have a whole list of things and I only did the 2 small things on it. That kiddie slide is STILL sitting in the middle of the living room though. *sigh* Plus work was following me home. I spotted something online and I emailed my boss regarding it, so I felt compelled to check my work email this morning (my day off). It wasn’t a huge deal though. I mean, there wasn’t much I could do anyway, so I’m just waiting until tomorrow to handle things.
That’s so sad Moxie, losing two of your babies – I remember losing one of our puppies in the very first litter we had, it was awful! Even though he died at home, I still rushed him to the vet. I don’t know what I was expecting them to do? This was a good 15 years ago and I still remember him – he was champagne coloured and the only boy in the litter. SAD face!
But one good thing did come out of it – I kept a closer eye on them and when I saw one of the other’s sickly, I took her straight to the vet and he was able to tell me how to care for her and she survived and grew into a lovely lady. I have never lost another puppy since (thankfully, as it truly is heartbreaking). I still don’t know why this puppy died? The vet said that it just happens…..
I have no sympathy for you and your slide LBJ till Denny moves his ‘stuff’ outa my lounge room!
LOL!!!
Oh am so sorry to hear about that MM. Hope the rest will be better. This is all so new to me..I mean, posting chicks?
But after you explained seems interesting
How interesting, all these things you can get in the post!
Sorry to hear about the chicks Moxie

AH I saw a Jack Sparrow birthday card this past weekend and it made me instantly think of you.
Soooo…… I can expect a card in the mail soon???
Ha ha ha! I know my birthday isn’t till September, so I can wait if you want to hang onto it till then…. ![]()
By the way, you guys do know that Captain Jack is here in Queensland, about an hour and a half drive from me??? He’s on location filming the new Pirates of the Carribean movie – lucky me!!! ![]()
PS – The Foo Fighter’s played in Brissie not long ago and Johnny went along in his make up (I wish I could apply eyeliner like he does!) . I’m not a Foo Fighter fan, but I would have gone to see Johnny and share a rum with him! ![]()
So sorry to hear about your chicks, Moxie. I am also shocked at the number of things you can post in the US. I would love to have a delivery of ladybirds. Not too sure about a bee delivery, though. That seems like asking for trouble!
The weather is pretty nice as the moment – I think we’re having another summer-in-spring. Yesterday one of my lecturers’ slides had crappy outdated theories on it written as though they were truth and the other one turned out to be cancelled when I got there. Instead of doing one of my too looming deadlined essays, I spent the afternoon sitting in the sun with a someone else who came to the lecture.
Then I went to the cinema and saw Home and then I went to do some outdoor roller skating along the bicycle path alongside a local A Road. It was great fun, although the bike riders seemed to think they owned the road: one of them didn’t ring his bell and came up so close behind us that he had to fall of his bike to avoid us because we didn’t know he was there and another person drove straight into my back!
One of my friends and I got a bit cocky and started doing derby whips to speed each other up. Essentially, we both tried to do this
but didn’t communicate about who was propelling who. The result was me falling over, ripping another pair of my leggings and I now have a 7cmx5cm graze with a thin bit that’s slightly longer.
So, I was googling to see if this creature by postal service malarkey was something that happens in the UK. Now one of my binkybunny adverts is bullion delivered by post. In one of the instalments one of the coins is a horse but the first one I saw was of a bunny or hare.

So all of the chicks survived the night, but the fate of that 1 is still undecided. He’s very week and doesn’t really move. I got up at 4:30 AM this morning because it was cold and stayed up until almost 6 AM warming them up and getting them to the correct temp again. I don’t think it had been cold because I checked on them at 1 AM.
And I may have accidentally named one. It was the rooster of the breed my sister picked out. I said his name was going to be Nanny because he was an almost DOA and my dad Nannied him until he got better. I’ll post a pic of what he should look like as an adult. ![]()
This is how Nanny should look when he grows up.![]()

MM- I hope the one makes it! Not all chicks survive in a flock apparently. What a handsome rooster!
I’m just getting over a cold I caught from my brother. Yay.
I don’t know why, but it’s all of the breed I picked that are weak…
Get better quickly MK!!
I have been dealing with the most difficult people. Uhg. o.O T.T
Moxie- That’s no fun
I hope you guys can reach an agreement.
I’m so excited!! I think I’m going to the London Pet Show this year and if there are any VIP tickets left I’ll get to meet Noel Fitzpatrick! Eeeeee! So excited! ![]()
I’m sorry about your chicks, Moxie! I hope the remaining sick ones get better soon. There was a ton of chicks at my local feed store. I wanted to stop and look at them but I only had a few minutes to go in grab Ox’s litter and leave.
Might be going on vacation this year so I’ve started the search for a pet sitter for Ox. This will be the first vacation I’ve been on for years, and the first time going since I’ve had Ox. Not really sure what I’m looking for exactly. I have found out two things: One, I’m incredibly paranoid when it comes to leaving him in someone elses care and Two: Utah absolutely sucks when it comes to anything rabbit related.
That 1 questionable one passed. I was very upset for this particular one’s death. Because I had spent the whole day dipping it’s beak in food/water and making a hard boiled egg yolk/water paste for it to eat. I was also talking to it and making sure the others didn’t step on him. It was horrible.
(This is why I am NOT a farmer and could never be one!!)
All the others seem healthy now, and I will probably not sleep for the next week making sure everything stays *PERFECT* in there. :^/
I hadn’t caught up on the thread before my last post, it was just a manic excited pop on BB and share the news moment!
I’ve caught up now and I’m so sorry to hear about your chicks MM! The sad thing is with buying them is that often they don’t all make it :/ I hope the others carry on well 🙂
I’m so sorry, Moxie. It sounds like you did everything you could for him. It’s such a shame that they can’t all make it. The rest of them are all in good hands though!
Sorry to hear about your chicks, too MM. You were so excited about them coming and it seems to be turning into something of a nightmare. It’s gotta be hard to watch your little babies going through this. I hope the others do OK!
MM–sorry you’ve lost some of your chicks
Thinking of you. You’re a great bunny and a chickadee momma though, taking good care of everyone!
MissGabster…..duh the perfect solution is to bring Ox to MN….Pumpkin and Shamrock can show him the ropes over here! But seriously, it IS nerve-wracking. We are going to Florida in May and I had it set up for my friend to watch Pumpkin (before we got Shamrock) but since we got Shamrock I’ve found myself over-paranoid. She has two cats that she loves more than anything in the world and I know she would take good care of the buns but I’m worried about her roommates and the fact that none of them really know the signs of bunny illness and I feel like they don’t take my concerns seriously (they think I’m nuts!). So ANYWAYS, we got lucky. The Companion Rabbit Society where we got Shamrock has an employee who bun-sits as a side business. She lives over an hour away, but will meet us halfway and is only charging us $10 per day for both buns (so $80 total). I figure I would have paid my friend at least $50 so why not do this?! The sitter provides litter boxes, hay, and a NIC condo w/ attached xpen (basically our set up anyways!) and is very bunny experienced!
Maybe you could contact your vet or check local vets for bunny sitters? That was going to be my next step if this hadn’t fell into our laps!
One of the vet techs at our vet office bunny sits. I found this out by accident when I asked if any of them did work on the side (thinking bunny nail trims). We got lucky. Not only does this tech now come to our house to trim nails, remove mats, etc., but she bunny sits — will come to our house (stay there or drop in a few times a day) and is the lic.tech for the exotics specialist and works exclusively with her Definitely worth asking at your vet office.
I’m studying like carzy for the AP Bology exam in a month..guys I’m really nervous/scared! I really want to get a good score
Had the bunnies out playing tonight and I was watching Moshi be his cute self. He was in the litterbox sniffing around to see who else had been in there. His fat butt was hanging out of the box a little and wiggling as he dugbin the litter. Next thing I know, he’s peeing all over the floor. Fat wiggly butt hanging out of the litterbox isn’t quite so cute when you have to clean up pee!
Wow, just wow. Today was WAY too long. Oddly, I don’t feel like I got much accomplished at work. =\
Oh Moxie, I’m sorry. These things happen, so please don’t beat yourself up about it.
I think Ox would love it if I dropped him off with you, LLH. Especially now that he’d get double the snuggles. Gah, BBers, why are you all so far away!?
I’ll definitely ask my vet. I know last time I was in there was a really great, rabbit savvy vet tech. I should see if he does home visits as well. I want JR’s vet tech!
I did find a sitting service that seems somewhat promising. The biggest downside I can see is that they only do home visits which would mean Ox would be alone for all but 1.5 hours a day (spread out over 2 visits) and he wouldn’t be able to roam the living room. But I’m probably being overly worried since Ox would probably sleep the whole time anyway and the space issue could be solved by adding some x-pens. There’s been quite a few times where the family has gone somewhere and I’ve stayed behind, and during that time Ox has near unlimited free roam in the living room. He will spend 90% of that time going into the deepest sleeps.
You’ll do great, MK! Especially if you keep up with the studying.
Fat wiggly butts are definitely cuter when they aren’t spewing pee all over the floor.
MissG — I’d gladly share my vet tech with you! She is wonderful, and she only charged $15 to come to my house, do all three buns’ nails, checked Marlee for mats, and checked/cleaned scent glands! I gave her more and she was surprised!
Moxie — I’m sorry about your chicks. Sadly, sometimes all the love and care in the world just isn’t enough. You’re so good with all your babies, you’d be an amazing mom to a human baby someday!
MK — good luck!
((((Vibes)))) for you and the remaining chick Moxie. I am so sorry about the others, what a great mum you were to them. ![]()
JR— That’s kinda funny how often I’ve heard that.
Ever since I was like 10 people always told me I was going to end up in a work field caring for children. If it be a stay at home mom, teacher or pediatrician (child doctor).
All the chicks are doing fine, and I may post a pic later. (Be warned the lighting is really bad and my camera is broken so the pics won’t be too good.) ![]()
Moxie — humans or furries, you’d be great dealing with either/both. You should add vet and vet tech to your list as well!
JR— That’s my goal, to be an exotic animal vet/small animal vet (there’s a desperate need for those over here) or a teacher for children 6th grade or under. (I don’t really want to do middle/high school). Although teacher’s pay aren’t the best. I think if you can profit from what you love doing, do it. ![]()
Moxie — seems to be more teachers than exotics vets so, if you can handle all the school, I’d do the vet thing! Animals can be so much nicer than people!
JR— Agreed!
Moxie-You would be great in any of those fields! I explored being a vet for a long time, but eventually decided it wasn’t for me, especially after observing a few surgeries. I had a hard time with those, and even though I know I would get used to it, I wasn’t sure that I wanted to put my time/effort/money towards something I might always hate. It’s a good thing too, because now I have decided my major and know what general field of Biology I want to go into (medical research, perhaps something genetics related.) I guess my best advice is: Try it out! Set up to shadow a teacher and a vet, and compare and contrast! Most vet clinics are happy to allow motivated youg people to shadow their vets.
Do rabbits have toe beans?
I have always loved biology, but I didn’t want to be a vet. I worked in a lab for awhile, which was okay. But I found that looking at bacteria in a petri dish all day was kind of boring. The waiting is terrible too. You put your sample in your tube, stick it in the PCR machine, and then you have to wait 3 hours or more. o_O I spent a good amount of time trying to splice DNA, but it proved unsuccessful. I think the DNA wasn’t being cut in the right place.
I would love to work in a lab. I’m hoping to get some experience in one before I go to college. I love biology because how highly ordered and functioning things are never ceases to amaze me (at the risk of sounding cheesy). I also love it for what it CAN’T explain: love, connection, our awareness of things unseen. It’s beautiful.
I’ve wanted to be a very ever since I knew what one was, ha ha ha! I’m well on the way to getting into Vet School too, luckily university is free here at the moment. I’m really hoping it still is by the time I finish school and go.
I’m so angry at myself right now! I completely forgot I have work tomorrow and I drunk two energy drinks tonight. Now I have to be up in 6 hours and I can’t get to sleep.
MK – The social atmosphere of working in a lab is like no other work experience I have had. So I suppose that is a plus. But yeah, you find yourself doing weird things when you’re bored. There was one thing though that I really did not like and that was the lack of “lab etiquette” that some people have. Especially when there is a new person, stuff will just start disappearing off your lab bench. =\
If you get a chance to work in a lab, I would definitely go for it. Since you’re in high school, I would approach someone at the university about a summer internship. You would mostly be doing stuff to help the people working in the lab, like preparing petri dishes, but it will give you an idea of what it is like. I did some pretty cool stuff and worked with some fancy equipment, but that was when I was in undergrad. I enjoyed using the spectrophotometer, even though I had no idea what it was asking me. The professor in charge of the lab was German, so the program running it was in German. It would ask me questions and it would have “Ja” and “No”. I would always press “Ja” and everything came out right. LOL
Toe beans? What? LOL
Toe beans are the squishy toe pads on cats and dogs. The term seems to mostly be used for cats since their toe pads look a lot like jelly beans. For some reason it’s really bothering me that I don’t know if rabbits have toe beans or not.
I just looked it up and apparently their pads are just fur!
I have never heard of that term. LOL That’s too funny. Um, I don’t believe they have pads at all. There is fur there, like JR said.
OMG, Leopold is SO ridiculously naughty! This happened yesterday, but I was too busy to post and then I kind of forgot. Anyway, I went into their room to put them to bed last night. Wooly was sitting eagerly in the cage, waiting for his pellets. I glanced around the room and I didn’t see Leopold. I saw the box I put their hay in and it was pretty much empty. Oops! Don’t worry, I had put some in there earlier, they must have thought it was really yummy and ate it all. Well, I looked under the desk. No Leopold. Hmm, where could he be? Then I noticed his butt poking out from behind the bag of hay that it corralled off with a NIC fence in the corner of their room. The little brat had cleared the fence and entered the forbidden zone to eat from the stockpile of hay. You guys don’t understand, Leopold NEVER jumps over things and he has never jumped over this fence. He is just too lazy. So apparently he must have been very desperate to get to that hay. The funny thing was that when he realized he was caught, he had this panicked look on his face but he didn’t know how to get out. LOL
Aw. No cute rabbit beans.
Their fluffy toes are adorable so it’s okay.
Lol that’s funny, LBJ! It sounds like he’ll have to start working on his escape strategies if he decides to continue this life of crime.
Goodnight everyone!
Ni night MissG!
Gosh I love the chat thread! I don’t really feel up to talking right now (WHAT? you all say, ha ha ha!) but I love reading what everyone is up to, thinking, going through or doing…. It’s like having someone talk to you as you drift slowly off to sleep. Such comfort!
It’s been a long time since I’ve been around! Maybe a year? Anyway, I was reading through and saw the biology stuff! MK, I’m doing my PhD in Biology, if you ever wanna talk about going in to the area just let me know
It’s a hard field, but very rewarding!
AH I understand what you are saying! I haven’t been feeling as chatty as usual either…
BubblesJo– Hi and welcome back. I don’t think we ever met. I only just had my 1 year BB Anniversary! ![]()
We picked up the new power washer this week and hubby’s been playing with it like its a new toy. I’m beginning to wonder if I’m going to be allowed to touch it. The privacy fence and brick wall by our patio look great and he’s doing the pation now. Guess the garden prep will have to wait unless I go buy him a new toy for that.
Hi Moxie, thanks! I don’t think we have, I’ve been away for more than a year for sure. Work just took over my life for a while ![]()
BubblesJo- thanks! I would love to talk sometime
This cold is just lingering like crazy >:/
I’m so antsy right now but all my friends are busy and I can’t drive and I don’t live near anything walkable so I can’t go anywhere. I look really cute too. ![]()
MissGabster- I hate it when that happens! Maybe you could do a photoshoot to remember what you did that day
I always take selfies when my hair looks good ![]()
Haha, yeah. That’s what I ended up doing. I took Tribble for a long walk.
Hi BubblesJo! I most definitely remember you! =D
OMG you guys, I literally wanted to shoot myself today. My in-laws had a credit with a hotel, so they decided to get a room in another city about 45 minutes away. They asked if we wanted to meet up with them there, they said they could take us out to eat somewhere as a thank you (for the work my husband has been doing for them). Okay, sure. When we got there, they asked if we wanted to go to this art museum. We said that was fine. Then they asked if we knew where it was. Uh, not really. I suggested that they ask the person at the front desk, but my father-in-law refused. He was certain it was “over there somewhere”. Keep in mind that we do not have smart phone and my in-laws did not bring their GPS. So here we were driving around in circles for OVER AN HOUR, looking for this art museum. I wanted to cry. I said, why don’t we go downtown. We all know where that is. Nope, my father-in-law wanted to go further down to look for it. I said I was pretty sure it wasn’t over there. They went that way anyway and we were practically back at their hotel before my father-in-law finally decided it wasn’t over there. Can you imagine driving around in circles for that long? We finally went downtown and we went to a free local artist art gallery down there. We walked around for a little bit, but it was getting late at that point. We could have seen more if they hadn’t wasted so much time. Then my husband couldn’t decide where we should go for dinner. He asked me where I wanted to go. I said I had no clue because I knew nothing about the local restaurants. We FINALLY decided to go to this place close to their hotel. It was a steakhouse, but they had other stuff there. There was a giant cow on the roof of the restaurant. LOL The parking lot was full of cars, but we were seated quickly. Turns out the place can seat over 400 people! It was huge! It was a good thing too. Turns out it was prom night and there were tons of high school kids there all dressed up for prom. LOL
LBJ – Omgoodness! What a nightmare
I don’t blame you for being frustrated, I would be too! Sounds like it at least ended on a little bit of a nicer note and you finally got to eat!!
The art show sounded fun ![]()
I’ve been having quite a nightmare lately myself. My little parrot got sick over a month ago with a GI Infection. He usually weighs 170 grams, but I didn’t notice he was sick until he was already weighing 92grams
I didn’t know because like bunnies, birds are excellent at hiding illness & he had his feathers all fluffed up all the time. The vet gave him some injections & sent us home with medication & vitamins, & instructions to feed him pound cake & anything else he’ll eat. By the time we took him back for a check up, he gained 10grams & got another injection. Unfortunately not 2 weeks later he wasn’t seeming to get any better. I have to keep a lamp by him so he can stay warm & he’s been laying on his tummy as close as he could to the light & trying not to put any weight on his feet, he was so weak & wouldn’t move. He still seemed to have an appetite though. He looked really bad this one day but it was getting late to get to the vet so I called emergency vets, low & behold none of the exotic emergency vets had an avian vet on staff
The only one that did have a bird vet had poor reviews.
Waited till morning to bring him to his normal vet, took blood samples & sent us home with more medication & vitamins. Blood results came in the next morning saying he has the disease Gout. This explains him not wanting to be on his feet. Poor little guy
They prescribed a 2nd medication for him to take but not 2 days after administering the new medication, he’s pulling all his feathers out!! I noticed it before bed time & by this morning his cage bottom was full of feathers & his rear area was pretty featherless. As the day went on he kept plucking, he is literally completely bald on his back, belly, rear, & legs. He only still has his tail feathers, wings, head, & some of his chest. So painful to look at him, he’s never been sick ![]()
What type of bird do you have Mimzy?
What type of bird do you have Mimzy?
Hi LBJ!!! *Waves hand*
Oh Mimzy, vibes for your parrot. Poor little guy
MK, feel free to ask whatever you’d like! I did my undergrad and MSc in Europe, then moved to Canada to do my PhD. I’m combining photographic, behavioural and molecular data to figure out the social lives of pilot whales. I’ve spent the last year doing genetics lab work
And today I need to finish my 6 month plan for my thesis. It’s been going on enough time now, I need to graduate!!
BubblesJo- I literally couldn’t believe it when I read your post, that sounds completely amazing!!! I would love to read your thesis when you finish
What was your major in undergrad? I would love to get into something medical, preferably research.
The free art gallery was nice. It’s run by volunteers, which also happen to belong to the gallery. The guy at the desk was so interested in showing my in-laws photographs of his work. He had a few paintings there on display, but boy he really thought his work was worth a lot of money. o_O I was more interested in these neat photographs on tin (instead of paper). They were beautiful. Plus there were some really cool sculptures there. I miss doing art stuff myself. I was really into art classes and stuff when I was in high school.
Mimzy – Oh your poor parrot. I can imagine that it doesn’t feel good to have gout bothering little birdie feet. Is the feather plucking caused by stress?
MK – What side of genetics are you interested in? I did some bioinformatics stuff for awhile too. I used Perl, but most people use Python (computer programs). What is really interesting is you can use it to explore the relationship between different viruses, well anything really that has genetic material (DNA or RNA). But a lot of discoveries have been made simply by finding genetic similarities between diseases, allowing researchers to come up with new ideas for treatments.
MK – For sure! If you want to take a look at what I’ve done so far I have my stuff organized here: https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Joana_Augusto2/contributions
My major was Environmental Biology and I did my MSc in Marine Ecology. I always wanted to work with marine mammals, especially in conservation. Do you have an idea of what kind of medical research you’d like to do? There’s so many cool things being done nowadays!
LBJ, bioinformatics is hard! My boyfriend is doing that to look at phylogenies. It just blows my mind. I’ve been doing microsatellite work and relatedness analysis. I guess it could also be applied to population dynamics if we had more samples. PCR is the worst thing I’ve had to do, so finicky.
Mr Roger fell ill yesterday and stopped eating, we gave him some painkillers left over from last time but it didn’t help. By 12 o’clock my wife took him to the vets and he was given antibiotics and painkillers. £75 later and he was mostly himself – didn’t need to be force fed once!
He’s meant to be continuing the antibiotics – unfortunately, between force feeding from last time and nail trims he’s now well aware of what the bunny burrito means and is far too well to be placid. He did some ridiculous leap and hit the bathroom door today. :/ I was on the ground at the time and so he didn’t have far to fall and seems to be fine.
Thankfully, he didn’t spit any of the Baytril out – small pleasures, no?
I did 5-and-a-bit hours exercise yesterday. It was far too much for me. I got to the end of the 45 minutes approaching the 6th hour, albeit extremely sluggishly and had to leave early and cried all the way home… seems I have limits. Who knew.
Also on the 4/5 for urgency and will have my autism diagnostic assessment in 3-4 months. Yay NHS! Realised I forgot to ask what type of assessment would be done though – I just know that there may be some tests and it will last the whole day.
Early this morning my little sister came into my room and told me she had just seen a bunny at the edge of our property. It was all black and clearly domesticated. Now I’m feeling sad for the bun. If I get a chance I’ll try and catch it. But there’s not much I can do until It comes on our property again. So send vibes that little guy/girl will get caught by somebody (if I can’t) and given a wonderful home!
Best of luck! I hope you or someone else catches it. Hopefully someone will mention it or put signs up (although maybe they might take it straight to the vet to have its chip tested?) so you’ll get peace of mind.
Mimzy, I’m sorry to hear about your bird, I hope he begins to feel better soon.
I’m about to go out and celebrate the holiday with some friends. Have a great day everyone.
BubblesJo- Thank you so much! I will make sure and check that out (I’ve been a little busy)
LBJ- I’m not sure yet, I need to explore more about all the different fields.
I am so fed up with my school! They’re so disorganised
The most recent thing is that some of my teachers have been marking me off when I’ve actually been there, and since I skipped a couple of classes two years ago nobody believes me that I’ve been there -_-
We’ve got thunderstorms moving through the area and its starting to rain. Its doing those big rain splops and I just saw a robin get hit with a splop, duck its head and run up under a bush. That’s the first time I’ve seen a bird have a “WTH” look on its face!
BubblesJo – Well, it is pretty much computer science/programming, but once you get past that part it’s pretty cool. I always enjoyed doing it. Of course the state university also has a lab for bioinformatics. There are HUGE computers that need their own cooling system. They can sequence DNA and you can tell it to do whatever you want bioinformatics-wise. So say you want to compare this to this and look for this. No problem, it will spit it out for you in a few hours. LOL
You have trouble with PCR? I never really had too much trouble, but I was working with e. coli so I had little trouble extracting the DNA and sticking it in the PCR machine. Nope, my problem was that the restriction enzymes we ordered did not appear to be cutting the DNA in the right place so my efforts to insert a gene into a plasmid never worked. =\
I hate trolls.
I know exactly what and who you are talking about JR – how anyone can find it amusing to get a reaction from someone by indicating they are inflicting harm onto a bunny (or any pet) a fun way to cause distress to other’s is and will always be beyond me! Hate isn’t a strong enough word JR.
Gosh guys…. you know how I’ve been complaining (sorry about that, ha ha!) for months about how hot it has been…… I woke up this morning and I was cold! I had to put my dressing gown on when I got up to make my cup of tea, lol! Soooo….. you know what this means??? I’m now going to start complaining about how cold it is and how much I hate it, ha ha ha ha!
Oooh boy, this bonding is going to be fun. Formally introduced Fíli and Pippin today and there was fur flying everywhere as they immediately tussled. Ah, well, I am sure they’ll be friends eventually!
Gods I have been so busy lately. I feel like this is the first time I’ve had a moment to myself in weeks! But I suppose it is good to keep myself busy. My bf is going through some rough times at work so he is constantly in a bad mood and we’re quite the cheerful couple right now. Sigh.
No sign of the loose bun today. :^/
Good luck with your bonding Nora! ![]()
JR – I missed the troll until just now. I was only on for a minute before we had to leave. We get back home and then the power goes out. =\
Nora – Sadly not all unions are love at first sight. I’m sure they will get there though. If one thing doesn’t work, don’t be afraid to mix things up and try different things.
Oh Moxie, I do hope you find him/her. Poor little thing. =(
Moxie, I hope you can catch the bunny.
Good luck on your bonding adventures, Nora!
I wish I could’ve seen that, JR. I bet it was a funny expression.
That whole troll thread has really been bothering me and I think I’ve finally figured out why it, and the other troll threads, I’ve seen on here always hit me so hard. Every where else on the internet you always expect to find unpleasant people. Anonymity can really bring out the worst in people. But on the BB the people are usually always so friendly to each other and care greatly for the well being of rabbits. We don’t often get trolls on here and I think we get so used to seeing all the good, friendly people on a day-to-day basis that it’s such a shock when one finally pops up. Plus, there’s always that niggling thought of what if they aren’t being a troll and this is actually something that is actually happening?
I’m trying not to think about it. There’s nothing I can do about it and the mods have done their job (thanks Sarita!). I do want to say that I am so grateful for this forum and all the wonderful people on it. Not many forums are as helpful, friendly, drama-free,and troll-fee as this one.
Changing the subject; how much was the power washer you got, JR? I’ve wanted one for a couple of years now but I’ve never actually looked into how much they cost.
By drama-free I mean human drama. I think we all know how dramatic rabbits can be. lol
MissG – So true! LOL
Trolls are idiots with too much time and to little brains to do anything useful with it. This troll gave himself away pretty quickly though. I too want to thank Sarita for locking the thread.
MoxieMeadows – Sorry I’m just getting back to you! lol. Been so busy with my bird & dog sitting for someone. He’s a red-throated conure
Speaking of Kramer, he’s plucked more feathers out over night!
I’m willing to bet he has less skin covered by feathers than not…he really did a number on himself. Sent pics to the vet & he’s really concerned so I’m binging him to the vet in the morning. On top of this, I went to dog sit today & when I was just about leaving to head back home, my mom & I found a little tan dog wandering by himself with a leash on but no owner around looking for him?? Didn’t have time to go door to door so it looks like we dog napped him
brought him home & fed him, poor thing is nothing but skin & bones with fleas :/ Later checked for a chip, nothing, went to a few houses around where we found him, no one has ever seen him before! Praying the humane society is receiving dogs in the morning!!
Nora – Don’t lose hope! That’s how my 2 bunnies were. Mimzy was constantly pulling out his fur. I had to switch up between different bonding strategies. Have you tried stress bonding already? I put mine in a pet stroller & went for a long walk
Eh, it could be a troll but it could be genuine. I’ve seen fairly similar responses in RL about other humans rather than bunnies, unfortunately trolls capitalise on this. I think there was a post a while back about someone spraying their bunny with water because it rattled cage bars at night and they couldn’t afford a new cage so the bunny was just going to have to learn (I do think progress was eventually made here). If (and it really is an if) the post was genuine, then I don’t think this post was entirely unlike that one. I think, when asking someone to a) control (or leave, because I think it was implied even before I mentioned it) a partner or b) get rid of their loved pet, there’s going to be friction. Cognitive dissonance. “Everything will be fine if only my bunny learns to behave.” Humans are awful for it.
I think I would have listed alternatives to carpet chewing just for a safe measure before locking it.
Poor Krammer.
Is there any idea why he might be doing it?
LBJ – I have to do a bit of programming with my stuff to, but in R. I’m not very good at it. I think we have a pretty good bioinformatics lab too, I’ve seen my boyfriend set sequences to be analyzed on is computer and link to the server to just let it run
The applications of it are very cool!!
I was testing microsatellites for my species, so I ran into all sorts of problems. Too much reagents, too little reagents, things that worked once and that was it… it wasn’t fun.
I saw the troll thread, and I was trying to figure out if it was actually trolling or not :S How can someone play with the idea hurting an animal is beyond me.
I’m going to have a fun day today! I’m volunteering for a science symposium that’s bringing 100 high school students to my university to learn about ocean science. I’m going to run one of the activities and help with the guided tours in the afternoon
man, I love doing outreach!
manic: I hope you had fun yesterday! I wish we could have celebrated.
Mimzy: I’m so sorry about your little bird! Sending lots of healing vibes. How nice of you to take the dog in, I hope he finds a new home soon.
If there’s any update on the bun I’ll let you all know. It’s been raining for the past 24 hours and is gonna rain all week. :^/
I must have missed the thread thing with trolls? But I do know trolls are horrible. >:^/
Thanks Hazel, we had a great day. We were due to have storms but they never really came, and the partly sunny skies and breeze was great. My friends live right on the water, so while he piddled around fixing his mower, we chilled out watching the wildlife and having engaging and enlightening conversations. Typical and much-needed break!
I’m glad you had a good time Manic. ![]()
What’s a troll?
A troll is a mean person on the internet who goes around trying to cause grief, anger and stress on other people. They normally try and cause conflicts and fights on the internet from my experience. It truly is horrible!
I am however curious about this thread everybody is talking about but I can’t find. Just so I know what everybody is talking about could somebody PM the link to the thread or something?
Thanks MM! That’s really sad. And if you find that thread let me know, I’m curious
I missed it too Moxie. I assume it is probably in my email feeds somwhere and I was to busy with other stuff to pay attention to it. Been troll central South of the equator lately too.
I will BM14. It truly is sad. I don’t understand why people so much free time to make the lives of others (who they don’t know) harder.
Roberta— Yeah I honestly have no clue what it is. Do you know if it’s a BB thread or an email chain or something?
Okay thanks Tessie.
After viewing that, it truly is upsetting. Sometimes I just don’t understand people. >![]()

Sounds like a blast! That’s exactly what the hubby and I always say we should do, whenever the time comes. Go to the local wildlife drive, watch the gators and birds, go to the beach. Of course we can do that now, but it’s not as much fun!
Oh well, maybe 5-10 years from now… ![]()
Moxie: I hope you can find the bun, poor thing. You said it’s been raining, maybe you can check in places it might have hidden from the rain, under sheds, bushes, cars and things like that. How are your chicks doing? We’ve played with the idea of getting a few chickens for a while. I really wanted some Easter Eggers, and Light Brown Leghorns, they’re beautiful. The hubby isn’t into it as much anymore, though. I hope you can post some pictures of yours, soon!
Moxie — I originally replied to the thread thinking it sounded like a child or young teen who just didn’t know how to handle a bunny. But, then suddenly he had a wife who was hitting the bunny, etc., and that sounded too fishy. He’ll cry wolf one too many times some day.
It’s really hard to identify trolls sometimes, I’m glad he got some advice anyway, in case he wasn’t trolling (although he probably was)
Hi, Guys. It’s been a while since I’ve chatted, but I want you to know that we are really on the lookout for trolls, and it takes us time to decide if they are as well. It is always upsetting, but that’s the point of their posts I guess. Anyway, keep on sending alerts if you even suspect someone is a troll, and one of us will check out the thread right away. It’s the best way, even if it turns out to be legit.
On another subject:
I am having mixed feelings after the loss of Sammy, and thought you guys would understand. Bit by bit I am cleaning out the things that should not be kept (stained old area rugs, her used blankies, etc.) and cleaning and setting aside those that I may use again. Like the xpen, food dishes. I even bought a new area rug this week for under the xpen if I set it up.
I have been looking on Petfinder and local rescue websites at the bunnies up for adoption. They are cute and nice, but they are not HER. It’s so hard. I want a new bunny, (though we are thinking about a little bird like a cockatiel since my Dad is in a wheelchair), but I can’t seem to email these rescues or go to a shelter that’s about 45 minutes away. I guess I’m in transition. I miss my girl. I would probably pick a boy, maybe a mini rex, and try to find one that is laid back and more cuddly. At least one that is OK being picked up and hanging out.
I just only look at the pix online right now. My Dad has been ill, so it’s been a lot to deal with lately. Sammy did bunny 500s 3 days before she got sick, so it was a real shock. I think I just needed to talk about this a little. If I were in CA, I would probably be announcing my new beastie. They are sooooo cute and sweet in the shelters there! Florida is not as well set up, and fosters more than shelters.
Thank you, guys, for letting me pop in here with my MeMeMe chat.
RP – I did not realize about Sammy! I’m so very sorry. I understand about the next bunny not being her. No bunny can replace a beloved bunny. Just remember you will get to go on new adventures and new smiles and laughs. Keeping you in my thoughts. ~hugs~
RP, I’m sorry about Sammy. It’s so difficult, loss. Some time must pass before you can remember only the good times untainted by the awfulness of loss. I hope you’ll find a lovely bunny who will be the happiest bunny in the world because he/she got you.
If the troll wasn’t a troll he wasn’t interested in learning anything about how to stop his wife from hitting the bunny anyway. (Who hits a bunny? If he’d written that she kicked him it’d been more realistic I think. And bunnies generally only scream out of mortal fear, not when they are hurt, prey animals as they are.) He started out convincingly enough though with the Netherland dwarf and all.
This forum is the best. This is perhaps the only place in the whole Internet where people don’t seem to want to be mean to each other =)
Hazel— The chicks are doing good.
We have 14 right now and more on the way in a couple weeks. We have 1 white leghorn, 5 golden cuckoo marans and 8 Salmon Faverolles.
When I get some batteries for my camera (Tomorrow or the next day) I’ll post a thread about chicken names with tons of pics! ![]()
The troll is at it again. This time saying his bun is so stressful because it poops/chews on stuff so he’s going to kill it. Not sure if it’s just an outburst of anger or whatnot. It’s just another thread started with one sentance (saying pretty much what I just repeated) with no questions.
RabbitPam — While I’ve never had a bunny cross the bridge, I totally understand how you’re feeling about Sammy and a new bunny. We lost our dog to cancer last summer, and I’m still missing her. My bunnies have been great about helping me to be able to get to that point where I think about the good times with our dog, but even this many months later, its still odd without Mysti here.
Moxie — I saw the troll’s new post too. No matter how upset I’ve gotten at my bunnies (only my girls!), I’ve never had those thoughts or urges. I’ve gotten pretty upset with them — Kieko when we first got the M&Ms and she bit me and nipped Marlee’s nose, and Marlee when she jumped Kieko during bonding — but they’re too cute to be that angry with and they just don’t understand that that behavior isn’t acceptable for human bunnies! I’ve thumped at them and yelled “no!” more times than I can count when they do things that could hurt themselves or each other though! Hubby has called them bad names before. But never could I hurt my bunnies.
Well, either a definite troll or a psychopath. I’m betting on the first.
Troubled individual anyhow. Who pretends to kill an animal?
I think Paradigm has this troll pegged!
After putting this off since last August, I finally made the appt and am having my first (and hopefully last!) root canal tomorrow morning. I’m already panicking at the thought of being held captive in the dental chair, but I’m tired of having to drink my iced tea with no ice, and well, Slurpee season is coming. (We all must have our priorities!).
I was wondering how you were doing RabbitPam–glad you checked in! It’s never going to be the same. I still find myself missing Boston even with these two goons who make me insanely happy.
I haven’t read the troll threads but like Miss G said–this is such a great forum. For more than just bunny stuff. Support in general. It sucks when someone tries to ruin it.
MM–looking forward to your chicken thread!!
I’ll be glad when Cottontail gets moved. Missing the Pete stories. I guess its like being between seasons on a tv show. Ahem.
Just so everyone knows, the troll was confirmed to be a troll. I don’t want anyone worrying.
Oh Pam, I miss Sammy too. =( Obviously I never knew her personally, but the thought of her being gone kills me. I know things are tough now, but a new bunny will come along when you’re ready.
BubblesJo – I saw your post back there. I never did anything with R. I knew people who did, but my professors always wanted us to use other programs. I heard it was difficult to use though. There was an entire computer lab sort of dedicated to it.
Well, today was delightful! I had some critters that I borrowed. I wish all of my days were as nice as this was.
I’m glad that was confirmed, what a troubled person.
JR good luck tomorrow! I managed a dental office for a couple years and I still can’t stand to have work done! I do like getting my teeth cleaned though ![]()
Yes BM14. And like Pam said, don’t hesitate to use the alert button if trolling is suspected. We can’t be everywhere at once.
Oh JR, I missed your post. So sorry! I have had 3 root canals. They aren’t as bad as you would think, but they aren’t the worst thing in the world. I’m sure you’ll be fine.
JR, root-canals are honestly not the worst thing in the world. I’ve had 3. Or maybe 4. My teeth are better since I got my nightguard (used to bite down so hard in my sleep so my teeth were hurt incl the roots.)
I wasn’t worrying about the stupd troll but I’m still glad he was confirmed as one. Sad and bitter people, trolls like that. What a waste land for a mind.
Oh so glad it’s confirmed to be a troll! Sounded believable at first but as it went, definitely seemed like someone trying to stir trouble.
Paradigm – I’m not sure how Kramer got sick but his feather plucking seems like it was a side effect to the medication for the gout :/ My mom looked up side effects for the medication today, in people it causes rash/skin irritation & also swelling in the feet. There’s a bunch more it can cause but I’m assuming the skin irritation is what he got, his foot also swelled a little bit. Oddly enough, the chances of getting the side effects is 1 in 1,000 & Kramer just happens to be that rare case I guess -.- lol
JR – Good luck! I just recently had a root canal too, you’ll be just fine
RP – So sorry to hear about Sammy
Just as LBJ said, no other bunny can ever replace her but you can have new experiences with another when you’re ready. If you need time right now, I would just take it slow but there’s no harm if you feel you want a companion sooner either. Everyone heals differently
Also side note, the dog we found running around, unfortunately the humane society wasn’t taking in any animals today so we got him into the ACS. I’m a little nervous because they aren’t 100% no kill yet but they’re trying to get there. He’s small & has a good enough demeanor that I’m hopeful he’ll be adopted before that happens, but I requested that I didn’t want to know what happens with him exactly! I think it’s best I don’t & I just stay hopeful haha. SO many people bringing in newborn kittens though, ugh…I hate my city sometimes :/
Anyway, after taking him in, we got home, mom calls me outside to look at something & there’s an australian shepherd puppy on our front lawn! Beautiful ice blue eyes too. Unfortunately it wouldn’t come to me & it ran off, gorgeous little guy though, hope he’s ok!
I’m curious – how can you confirm if someone is a troll?
Pascal might have a spine problem, I was actually hoping his leg trouble was EC or similar but not the case. Back to the vet in the morning for Xrays and tests. Vibes for my little guy please.
{{{{{Pascal}}}}}
Tessie — I was wondering the same thing.
The troll has been “dealt with”.
Seriously, if we told you how, we’d be publicizing it to the trolls, too.
When a person writes inflammatory statements, it is simply against the BB rules, whether they are considered a troll or not. So, if you are upset by a post, just send an alert.
Sometimes a different kind of help is needed and we can redirect a member for that, too. (Ex: breeding discussions are not allowed, but there are sites with advice for that elsewhere.)
Usually a troll starts out believably low key until members participate, then become more inflamed. Don’t respond – hit that alert button and move on.
And thanks, everyone, for your kind words.
Trust me, this person was a troll – he threatened to kill my rabbit too…seriously. Also I doubt this person was even married – what married man calls their rabbit a bunny….I do believe this person needed help but not the kind of help we could give him.
LBJ Glad to hear you had a great day with your critters and class. I bet it was fun for them. I loved when we would have animals at school.
JR Good luck at the dentist! I am sure it will go well. I hope you can enjoy your Slurpee and ice cream!
Mimzy I hope Kramer gets to feeling better. Its that time of the year when shelters do get loaded down with baby kittens. I wish more people would take better care of their pets and get them spayed and neutered or don’t abandon them to grow the feral cat population. Its not bad around here anymore but there use to be a problem with a lot of strays. A lot of shelters here do not adopt out their kittens until they are spayed and neutered. There are shelters and a few places around that offer low cost spay and neuters that I have seen for $20. $20 is a pretty good price to me.
RabbitPam I guess I didn’t realize you had lost Sammy. I agree with others when the time is right and the right bunny comes along you will know. I can imagine how much you miss that sweet bunny.
❤️ (((Pascal))) ❤️
RP: I just saw the post last night about Sammy
I’m so sorry. She is a gorgeous bun, I hope you’re able to heal soon. The loss of a family pet is one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to go through.
I’m glad the troll is gone. I’ve only really had one experience like that (it wasn’t rabbit related) but this guy was for real. He was in my online literature class, and kept typing hateful/racist comments in the text box. Of course he never said anything when he was on the mic. I reported him to my teacher and she said she would monitor it, then the head professer invited me to join his class for the last week (it was right near the end of the course).
((((Pascal))))
(((((Pascal)))))
Glad the troll is taken care of.
You can just tell they’re trolls sometimes. (Like saying you love your rabbit so much you won’t rehome it in one breath, then saying you killed it in another. Disgusting) :^/
((((Pascal))))
Roberta I missed the comment about Pascal I hope he is okay.
(((((Pascal)))))
Sorry for the double post.
There were some other things that happened that members did not see. That is how we are pretty sure. So no need to think about that person anymore. They aren’t worth worrying about.
Oh Roberta, I hope it isn’t anything serious. Poor Pascal.
Sindriona – Yes, they were absolutely in love. LOL I was told I was welcome to borrow critters any time, so I might do it again.
I am determined to get the chick pics up tomorrow! Their wings are already getting feathers! ![]()
Moxie- I can’t wait to see the chicks!!!
I’m having a strange week… I got in this big discussion with my oldest brother the other day. We have very conflicting opinions on something, and he keeps making me feel like I’m stupid for not believing his side. I don’t usually let him rile me up like that, but seriously! I feel like I’m talking to a brick wall when we discuss this :/
On the other hand….I had a long conversation with a guy I like, and we have so much in commen it’s funny! I posted that I was feeling stressed and needed a funny cat video, so he posted one for me, and then posted a video by his favorite comedien who just happens to be one of my favorites as well
So yes. Strange week.
Root canal is almost over! Just have to go back for the permanent filling in the canals and to the regular dentist to repair the porcelain on the crown where it was drilled (the root canal was done *through* the existing crown). There was a 20-30 min power outage during the procedure so I was in the chair practically standing on my head for 2 hours and 15 minutes — ugh! I had gotten so uptight that I took my “special” allergy meds (also be used for anxiety), which I call happy pills, before I went so I really didn’t care! My mouth hurt like crazy after the numbness wore off, but I didn’t care that it hurt until the happy pill wore off! No more cold sensitivity! Just got home from the store — ice cream! Nestle Crunch Popcicles! Tomorrow ….. a Coke Slurpee! Hopefully no cavities after all that!
Vibes for Pascal!
LBJ – My supervisor is an R and MatLab master coder. He’s hilarious, anything is an excuse to write some code. Every time I’m working on something that’s hard to do by hand his response is “I can write a code for that!”. He’s like a kid
Me, not so good at it. Slow, very slow.
I took Chester to get his nails trimmed today. He behaved really well, even when the tech cut the quick… I of course got the bunny but while he was in the carrier. But all was forgiven once he figured out he was completely silent again! I now have a ninja bunny taking immense pleasure in surprising me. Rascal…
Roberta — any update on Pascal?
Kieko gavevme a scare this morning. When I went to give the buns breakfast, there were only 4 poops in her litterbox, and she hadn’t eaten any hay or drank any water all night. I had to run to the dentist so I put a bunch of “special hay” (i.e. small pieces of bottom-of-the-box hay) in a bowl and planned to take her to the vet as soon as I got back. Little stinker ate every piece of the hay (looked like she even washed the bowl!) and made a nice poop mountain in her litterbox by the time I got back.
I just remembered something that happened the other day that left me almost speechless. I was talking with a guy at work about gardens and I mentioned that we had a problem with deer eating our garden last summer after Mysti passed away. He told me that if I wasn’t ready to get another pet, that I should just get a “throwaway dog”. WTH??? After just staring at jim in disbelief, the only response I could come up with was “No dog is a throwaway dog. Get out of my office.” I should have expected this from him since he likes to tell me things like how to cook rabbit, but jeez.
JR, it’s funny how we fuss over them, only to have them do something like that. *sigh*
BubblesJo – Well you’re lucky then, maybe you can just sweet talk him into writing whatever you need. =p
JR- I pretty much never engage people like that. Gives them too much satisfaction, plus you are being the mature one.
Looks like we posted at almost the same time JR. Wow, that is a pretty rotten thing to say. What makes any dog a “throwaway” dog? Seriously, I would like to know what the qualifications are. Sheesh.
LBJ — I wonder if only a throwaway person would know what the qualifications are for a throwaway dog?
JR, I think you’re right. ![]()
Aw, sorry to hear about Sammy. I know the feeling of trying to find a new bunny without it feeling like a replacement! It was hard for me to pull the trigger on getting Fíli for the same reason. And I still find myself comparing him to Merry sometimes. Dang I miss that lil guy.
Hope Pascal is doing better!
Bonding is going ARGH right now. 3 dates in and they’re still fighting pretty fiercely. I can break them up with some box shaking, sometimes, but sometimes I have to physically restrain them. Today I tried putting their box on the dryer and running it with shoes inside. At least they didn’t fight! They just froze and did not move a muscle the entire time. Then went back to fighting when I moved them back. Well, I know it isn’t always love at first sight! They ARE going to get along, dammit!
Nora – sending bonding vibes {{{{Pippin and Fili}}}}
Nora hope it all goes well for you! After a few months of settling in after school I may look at a second bunny, but I swear some of the bonding stories just sound like no fun HAHA. Not to mention I really REALLY don’t think I could handle poop wars and the marking. Lilith leaves maybe 3 or 4 pellets a week outside her box (always in her cage), and thats a plenty for me
. But I do hope they get along soon!
Nora I know how you feel about the bonding. Just keep at it. It took me about 8 mor 9 months of on and off bonding to get my 2 together. I did a lot of moving around of my bonding box. I dragged it along the floor. I took them outside. I would even put their box in a baby stroller and walk them up and down the street. That’s what I used a lot actually. I bet my neighbors thought I was a crazy woman pushing a baby stroller with 2 bunnies in it.
JR glad you made it through the root canal. Man that power outage thing might have sent me into a panic attack. Its bad enough dealing with that then to have to sit and wait for the power to come on.
Your co-worker has the mentality that a lot of dumb people have about animals. Animals and people can’t be throwaways though I know we wish some people could be.
If I ever got another bun, stress bonding would not work with Moxie. She’s too laid/back curious. She would just think it’s a fun game to be set in a box on a washer/dryer.
(Not that I EVER do ANYTHING like that to Moxie though. It’s just her personality to probably not care.)
Oops, double post!![]()
Are you going to call one of your babies Henrietta Moxie??? Just wondering…..
lol!
Edit to ADD – I just had a thought (OUCH! Lol!)…. your the chick’s mum, so that makes me a Grandma???
Ha ha ha!
RabbitPam, I totally understand how you feel. Time does help, take the time you need and don’t try to rush it. You’ll know when you are ready- you just get to that point where you realize you can’t live another day without a bunny greeting you in the morning. I was unable to take that grieving break between losing Radar and Fred just “arriving” in our lives both simultaneously and unexpectantly, and I now find myself having a bit of a hard time bonding with him right now because I am still grieving over Radar… kind of unsettling, but I know it will pass (it probably doesn’t help matters that he keeps peeing on me *sighs* ).
Sending positive energy for Pascal AND Pippin & Fili !!!!
Moxie, I will be living vicariously through you with your new chicks! I had to pass on getting new peepers this Spring as I decided to focus on the 6 pounds of Honeybees that are arriving for us to install in our hives this weekend! This will be an adventure for sure. Now, I miss the little peeping noises the chicks make – that is my favorite! They are so much fun.
Gus is the kennel for a few days. He’s housed next to a duck named Olive. Ha ha. They said she’s a much lived duck…obviously
AH— Yes, you can proudly tell everybody you’re a chicken grandma! ![]()
MK. Sounds like you were debating and not discussing with your brother. Sometimes you have to end with “we will have to agree to disagree”
The guy sounds nice
JR. Sounds like a hideous trip to the dentist. Good thing you had happy pills. I should get some of those
I’m afraid I’m going to have two very cranky buns on my hands tonight! I forgot we were out of greens and by the time I got home I didn’t want to go back out. They just got about a cup of insides of a romaine heart (so not the good leafy stuff) and some brussel sprout leaves. Yikes. I hope they don’t terrorize the place! Will have to send hubby tomorrow!~
Speaking of chickens, when are we going to see your new chicken Andi?
LLH – LOL, they will survive. They’ll probably give you the butt for it though.
I stopped by my old job today to borrow some things. I talked to everyone there and it felt nice. They asked if I wanted to help with hikes because people quit on them and they were shorthanded. I would love to, but it would have to be volunteer and I can’t take time off of work to not get paid. It made me sad. =\
Theeese bunnies!! ARGH. Thanks for the good vibes, I think we are going to need them.
All will turn out for the best Nora, I can feel it. ![]()
Nothing like spending 7 hora on a work project that apparently isn’t needed for several weeks, not tomorrow. I am throughoutly exhausted. Whooooo…
LBJ, I know that feeling. I used to coordinate a volunteer network on campus, but had to leave because my funding ran out and I needed a part time that payed more. I did an activity with them last week and I missed it so much! Doesn’t help that it’s what I’d really like to do in the future, science outreach. *Sigh* C’est la vie…
LEL – That sucks! I’d be so upset it that happened to me.
LLH – Did the buns throw a tantrum? Chester would definitely terrorize the house!!!
I finally get my Chicken thread going and AH isn’t even on here!
Spent the night at a friend’s house last night. Got to bed at about 2 AM and then got up at 7:30 AM so only got about 5:30 hours of sleep! At least tomorrow is a Saturday… LOL! ![]()
I finally got on facebook. BB is so much easier to figure out!
How so JR?
I hope it’s ok Amanda – I sent JR a friend request for you. I still have no idea what I am doing, ha ha ha – I just click on everything and when I stuff up, I blame my age and/or ignorance, ha haha ha! I only signed up to FB for RAPT and then did what every sneaky parent does, I used it to suss out what my (adult) kiddies are up to…. I’m surprised they haven’t UNfriended me yet??? LOL!
Moxie!!! I have just come in from trimming (cutting!) the garden – I need to have a shower and clean up, but I am so excited. Be back soon….
LEL — on BB, you post and you see what everyone else sees. With BB pm’s, you pm someone and that’s it. On facebook, there’s the friend stuff, people looking at your stuff when you don’t know they’re looking at your stuff so even if you set it so only your friends see, they can look at your stuff and your friends’ stuff and then your friend starts looking to see if there’s a pic of you out there even though you’ve told her there isn’t.. . . LOL
I didn’t know you guys were on Facebook! I need some bunny friends, all my friends think I’m nuts with how many pics I post lol. However Mr Binks is somewhat of a Facebook celebrity with my friends and family ![]()
BM14 — can you send me a pm? I can’t send new BB pm’s since I updated my phone.
Sent
I had a hard time too with my phone but I think it went through finally
OMG MOXIE!!! You have no idea how proud I am to be the Grandma to your baby chicks and am going straight to your chicky thread after I post this. I am SO sorry I wasn’t on when you made the announcement and started your thread – SAD face!
AND I am ‘honoured’ that you named the prettiest (lol!) chick Henrietta
(but they are all pretty to me, that’s what good Grandma’s say don’t they, lol!). Such a cool
name! Ha ha ha!
And you do know I am going to ‘brag’ to everyone about this…….
PS – Good thing they can’t post baby chicks to OZ…. you know what my bed would be filled with??? Chick POO!
He he he he…..
Thank you Moxie – how clever was I to steal YOU (reminder – DON’T tell your parents, ha ha ha!). You really are my pride and joy on BB, along with MK and Midnight. I ‘love’ my (our – yes I know… I share you all with Amanda, he he he….) bunny kiddies, but you were my first stolen bunny child and will always be special. Especially for just being YOU! BIG smile/happy face! ![]()

and then your friend starts looking to see if there’s a pic of you out there even though you’ve told her there isn’t.. . . LOL
I don’t know what your talking about JR
??? Ha ha ha ha ha…….
Oh gosh BM14, you can be my FB friend (I only have a few FB friends – loser! Lol!) but be warned, my page is VERY boring
! But I think I have to friend you??? I have my security settings high so no one (except friends) can see or find out about Henry. Once you become friends with JR, ONLY if you want, I think I can send you a friend request from there??? Let me know if you would like me too. ![]()
That dam chicken of mine LBJ (for those that don’t know ha ha, MY chicken is my kitchen…. yep, only on BB??? Lol!) wasn’t going to happen for a while there – I was so upset! But I came up with a plan B (told you I always have a plan B, he he he!) and I’m hoping to get it by July. I promise, as soon as it starts I will let you all know – I am so EXCITED! But not as excited as I am having grandchickies…… nothing can top that!
AND you are all going to go crook at me…. while waiting I changed my mind a little. Instead of going for the dark charcoal, I am now going for BLACK for the lower cabinets with the same white stone top and all the pantry door’s (5?) in white. I hate white (the hubby and I jackhammered the white floor tiles up, ha ha!), but once it’s done and I post photo’s, I think you will get it??? I’m not just excited for myself, I can’t wait to show you all! Sooooo 2 and a bit months to go???
PS LBJ – while writing this, I am listening to the Rocky Horror soundtrack…. I know you’ll appreciate knowing that. I’m listening to Meatloaf’s’ bless my soul’ as I hit submit, ha ha ha!
Hey BubblesJo, I’m not sure if you remember me??? But I remember one of our last conversations…. I think Henry ate half a box of my tissues from my bedside table, ha ha ha (I wasn’t laughing back then!). I don’t know why I remember that, but I do, lol! Super happy to see you back.
I’m so sorry Amanda that you rushed and worked so hard to get that report done, but I hope that free’s your time up to spend on BB??? I know I’m not the only one who misses you. Honestly, no one has your sweet sense of humour and the chat thread isn’t the same without it. Remember when we had a chat on the chat thread talking about who knows what and I think it was LBJ who got on and said WTH after we filled about 2 pages, ha ha ha! Still one, if not my favourite BB memories, he hehe he he……
I’m excited! Potus and Backers are finally scheduled for their neuters this coming Monday! I’m so excited to start their bonding – Potus and Annie, Backers and Butternut. ![]()
LEL–the bright side is that now you don’t have to worry about the project right?
The bunnie did not rebel! Hubby got them lots of new stuff to nibble on yesterday, but noticed some mushy poos (from turnip greens I think…) so will need to pay attention to that!
HELLO BUNNY PEOPLE!
I am not officially back yet, but wanted to let everyone know that we have successfully made it to SC! My computer is not up yet, and I am currently on a friend’s computer, but we are all safe. I hope to be back on and catch up over the next week; and I will figure out some nice little Pete and Tilly updates for you all.
Miss you guys! I’ll catch up on all the chats later! And I apologize for not responding to PMs yet, but this is just a quick “We’re not dead” update, so I WILL get back to you when I get back. ![]()
AH: of course I want to be friends with you! I have been trying to send you a PM and I keep getting a server application error
If you have access to PMs can you send me one with your info and I’ll send you a request ![]()
CT— Glad you made it to your destination safely!
Can’t wait until you can get back on here for good! ![]()
BubblesJo – OMG, yes, I loved doing stuff at school. I was in the environmental club during undergrad and I was always willing to help with whatever needed to be done. I was really sad when the president decided to study abroad because the new president really didn’t appreciate me. I kept offering to help with things, but she sort of ignored me and did things without me. I think a lot of it was spontaneous though, not necessarily malicious. Still annoyed me a bit though, so I stopped trying.
AH- Oh? You broke up the tiles? I want to see! LOL And you had better let us know the minute you get your new chicken. I want to see it! =p
I could friend people on facebook if they want. I don’t mind looking at bunny pictures. Unfortunately, there aren’t many bunny pictures to speak of on my page. I can never get good pictures. My boys are always blurry. LOL
There’s a chick thread?? Ahh Moxie, I’m so excited to finally see the chicks!
You’re lucky PumpRock didn’t rebel and destroy the house, LLH!
It’s good to hear that you all made it safely to SC, Cottontail. I look forward to reading your updates.
I’d love to add some BBers to my friends list! Moar bunny pics!
Anyone that wants to add me on FB send me a PM and I will give you my info ![]()
We’re changing out the bunny room floor fleece tonight so the M&Ms are in the common play area. I put a big pile of hay out for them — about 1.5 feet long and about 10 inches wide with the hay loosely packed. Checked on them 25 minutes later and the hay is *gone*! I put another bigger pile out there and they attacked it like they hadn’t eaten in weeks! Going to be a poopful night!
It’s funny how they act like they haven’t seen food in days when they always have an endless supply of hay lol
Binks will randomly go crazy over his hay like its the best thing in the world
Went to this new place tonight that does chicken fingers/tenders. They had chicken and waffles, literally chicken fingers sitting on top of a Belgian waffle. O M G, I just about died!!!
LBJ — Hubby wanted breakfast for dinner tonight and we were near IHOP so we went there. They had chicken with waffles on their menu! I don’t think I could do that — those are two tastes that just don’t work together for me and should not be allowed on the same plate!
I’ve been trying to get the M&Ms switched from water bottle to bowl, but Moshi is digging his heels in to stay with the bottle. He has gone from sitting in front of the bottle drinking to putting his paws on the edge of the litterbox while he drinks (the bottle is right above the litterbox) to putting one paw on the spout and practically sucking on the spout. He looks like a baby holding onto it’s bottle. If I find him laying down holding the bottle with both paws and sucking on the spout, I am not burping the bunny when he’s done!
Not sure if they’re going to be able to leave the litter box for a while after eating so much hay. Awww, Moshi needs his bot bot. Burp the bunny sounds like it could be one of those kids games or a book.
Chicken and waffles doesn’t sound like a good flavor combo to me either. Keep your savory away from my waffles!
andHenry – Hi!!!! *waves* I remember you and Henry, the little trouble bun
Chester still runs away binkying with my tissues if he can get a hold of them!
LBJ – That’s sad. I wish we had volunteers that were as excited as you when I ran the organization! There’s a science competition happening in the beginning of May, 30 teams of 4, grades 6 to 9. It’s gonna be hilarious
I think I’m slated as the photographer for that one. I wish I can get a job planning this sort of stuff for kids and youth!
If anyone wants to add me on facebook feel free to PM me. I’m not on there much, I pretty much post pics of Chester and my book and running updates. I’ve been training for a 10K and fundraising as I go, so I like keeping people updated on how I’m doing. It’s only 3 weeks away and it’s my first 10K
Chicken and waffles… I don’t know, seems like a weird combo. Then again, I thought the same about poutine and now I totally crave it ![]()
BubblesJo I have my first 10k on Saturday! And my first 15k in June!! Good luck with your training!!
Dammit. These bunnies!!
After a rough couple dates, I decided to let them spend some more time getting to know each other through the cages. They finally seemed less fighty–they were even lying down next to the cage the other one was in! So I thought a date this morning to eat some pellets for a little bit would be nice, but oh gods, the fighting! Pretty sure they were even worse. Grr.
I haven’t seen them actually break skin with their biting, but I was brushing Fíli today and he was a bit jumpy when I got to his butt and I noticed he has some bumps back there, and I’m thinking they might be abscesses. And Pippin has a little scab on his nose where he must have gotten a nip.
It’s back to through the cages for now.
Nora you are so patient! Stay optimistic–we are all rooting for you guys!
So we left our house at 2:00 PM yesterday and got home at 7:00 PM to find Rocky on the OUTSIDE of the xpen and Pumpkin on the INSIDE. Our xpen is 30 inches high (should have gotten the 36 inch one!!) and they’ve been in this enclosure since April 5th with no issues. I’m honestly surprised that Rocky didn’t jump on the couch and jump back into the enclosure (since that’s where the food, water, and Pumpkin were). Honestly I turned to hubby and said maybe we should just let them free-range??? He said no but I think it’s going to happen eventually. We put them both in the xpen overnight and they were both there in the morning. Hoping that maybe Rocky learned his lesson that it’s not worth it since Pumpkin is too scared to jump over anything and won’t be going with him!!
I do have to say, the thought of free range bunnies and no condo in my living is very appealing!!!
LLH — I’m thinking you should have gone 42 or 48 inch! Free range sounds so nice . . . until they eat your house! Hopefully yours aren’t chewers. Marlee would chew little holes in everything. Moshi would rearrange the furniture and then chew the edges off of everything wooden. Kieko would just pee on every piece of furniture where Marlee chewed and then would make poop carpet.

Nora, I’m sorry they’re giving you so much trouble, hang in there! Laying down next to the other bunny’s cage isn’t always a positive sign. It can mean something like “This is MY place, I’m the boss and you don’t make me nervous.” It’s a way for them to display dominance by acting confident in front of the other bun.
That’s right LLH! Clears up BB time
Glad you are all safe, can’t wait for you to be back, CT! ![]()
Hurry up and settle in CT!
Nora, sometimes even a break can help things. Then you follow with changing things up. Try something new, like taking them for a car ride.
Went to get in the shower and peeked in on the M&Ms. The tunnel haven was slowly moving across the floor like an inchworm. Ya gotta love Moshi!
Uhg I have had a long/stressful day today. :^/ It’s late and I just can’t get to bed. *Sigh* So I’m just listening to some music and browsing BB for a little while longer until I go try to get some sleep. I have a long day tomorrow (I’ll be on my feet all day) and have to get up early. I know it will be difficult getting up in the morning so I am contemplating just staying up all night. But I know that won’t be good for tomorrow… Decisions Decisions!
(Eh I’ll probably go lay down.
)
Oh gosh Moxie, don’t try and stay up all night…. trust me, it doesn’t work – I’ve tried! Lol!
I do love Moshi! How funny would that be to see JR – I can just imagine it…..
My son just left after coming for lunch, I made him a birthday roast and for him to open his present. I need to go back 1 or 2 pages to catch up. I love it when I’m away for a day and I have lot’s to read and catch up on – does that just show how nosey I am??? I love reading what everyone is up to and what’s been going on….. ha ha ha!
Off to the vet we go again. Moshi is holding his left eye closed. I took a look and the inside of the lid is red and there’s some red on the white part of his eye. I know I shouldn’t do anything not prescribed by the vet, but we have antibiotic drops from Kieko’s last irritated eye and they have soothing/anti-inflammatory effects too so I put a drop in Moshi’s eye. Can’t stand to see him hurting. I don’t know how long he’s been doing this because he doesn’t keep his eyes wide open like the girls do and never has unless he’s scared. The drop won’t affect the vet’s ability to stain his eye. I’m sure its probably a little piece of hay or hay dust but I he’s my squishy baby boy and I don’t want him hurting. He didn’t hold a grudge about me picking him up, and even followed me around for pets afterward.
Poor Moshi!!! I hope its something that heals fast.
((Moshi))
Hope you got some sleep MM!
(((Moshi))) hope your eye feels better!
LLH, Thanks! Good luck with the 10K, let me know how it went
Any tips on how to survive it are welcome.
Nora, good luck with the buns. It’s hard now, but it will be so great when they’re bonded.
Chester is molting so much I can make a new bunny out of his fur. And him being scared of the vacuum cleaner doesn’t help me keep the house in a decent state either… Meh, could be worst. At least I’m not allergic to the fur…
Counting the minutes until the vet office opens and hitting redial repeatedly to get in for Moshi’s eye.
Those drops shouldn’t do any harm and could possibly help JR. Normally I wouldn’t advocate randomly using meds but in this instance if they are soothing and antibiotic then they would be appropriate. Hopefully it is just some irritation from a small hay stick. Hugs for Moshi.
Thanks Roberta. Vet appt in one hour.
Vibes for Moshi! Hope it’s nothing serious.
Bunnies are with the vet. Checking Moshi’s eye and trying to get a urine sample from Marlee while we’re here (couldn’t get one from Marlee last time because she completely emptied her bladder on the vet last time).
I have a system for getting the bunnies in the carrier, but the system didn’t take into account that we’ve added a gravity water bowl to the “catch” area. Moshi hopped right in the carrier. Marlee dove out of the litterbox straight into the water bowl, with the “wave” of water landing on my leg. She’s soaking wet from the bottom of her ears down, and I look like I’ve peed myself.
The vet decided to keep both bunnies for the day. Moshi has a corneal ulcer about the size of a pencil eraser, and Marlee is getting fluids so the vet can hopefully get a urine sample this afternoon.
JR is the ulcer serious or easily treatable? Hope he feels better soon!
BubblesJo I’ll let you know how it goes. I have a 15k in June, so I’ve been building up my runs at home. Did 8 miles this morning, but had to stop twice (for 1 minute each) to get some water and use my inhaler. The ONLY thing that gets me through it is music. I figure out how many songs it will take (so for 8 miles, around 20-22 songs) and basically count them down until it’s over! Get a good playlist and when you get tired of the same music add new songs!
LLH — hoping the ulcer is easily treated since she had to stain his eye to see it. She mentioned the same drops as I used last night (ciproflaxacin?) and another medicine but said that would all be worked out before I go back this afternoon.
Vet just called — Marlee has a UTI which appears to be caused by fecal contamination of her urinary tract (yeast and bacteria). Wth? Baytril for two weeks and another urinalysis plus culture if not cleared up.
Moshi is on cipro eye drops 3x per day plus metacam.
Don’t know who is giving me more gray hair — bunnies or son!
Halfway through the day (Thankfully!). The most stressful few hours will be tonight though. I am anticipating going to bed tonight lol! (And I did get a few hours of sleep last night. Plus just got out of a refreshing shower and cleaned off my makeup. I think I’ll go with minimal makeup tonight…)
(((((VIBES))))) for (((Moshi))) & (((Marlee)))!!! <3 ![]()
(((((VIBES))))) for (((Moshi))) & (((Marlee)))!!! <3 ![]()
Thanks for the vibes. Getting ready to go pick up my babies and take them home.
Oh no poor M&Ms! How did you notice she had a UTI?!
Sending healing vibes to both!!!
I’ve been cleaning out Etienne’s place in Cedar Creek – he had his man cave there and a self storage business – it is close to a lake and he would stay out there and go fishing and do his man things and I have to say it’s so depressing to me…it’s difficult getting rid of someone’s life like this. He has another man place about 5 hours from home that I have only been to once after he died and we are going this weekend to talk to a realtor about it and see about selling some of his stuff there as well.
Some of his friends are doing a memorial/celebration event in his honor Memorial Day weekend (May 24th) and I will be having 4 of his friends (all French men) staying at the house for 2 nights and I’m very anxious about this too – I’ve only met 2 of them and have not met the other 2. I can understand Dominique just fine and I like him alot and he’s stayed with us a few times so I know him well and I like Patrick too – he was with us the week that Etienne came out of the hospital and then went back into the hospital the day he left but I cannot understand him very well and I’m afraid it’s going to be the same for the other 2 men as well – I’ve spoken to Claude on the phone and he’s difficult to understand.
I just have a feeling that May is going to be a tough month for me…I’ll be glad when it’s over and done with.
Sarita — hang in there. Getting rid of things is very hard and feels so “final”. I know that sounds odd when the person is no longer here, but that’s how it felt to me when my dad passed. Hoping May goes by quickly for you.
BM14 — the suspected UTI has been going on for awhile but they never could get a urine sample. We kept finding pee dribbles (we thought Marlee) and then found a huge puddle so thought maybe Moshi. Took them both in a few weeks ago and they were able to get a sample from Mosh but Marlee peed all over the vet on the way to get the sample. This morning, Marlee peed a little on the counter so they gave her fluids and kept trying throughout the day.
Oh my poor M&M’s!!! =( I hope they get better now that you have meds and everything.
Sarita – Wow, I can’t imagine what that must be like. I agree with JR, it probably feels so “final”. I’m sure you will make it through though. Perhaps his friends would enjoy some things from his man cave? You know, to remember him by.
Hope the UTi checks out alright, and hope for a speedy recovery if there is one!
Just thinking of you Sarita–can’t imagine what you are going through.
And poor M&M’s! Glad that it sounds like they’ll be on the mend in no time!!
Something has died in our house and it’s SMELLY.
My partner went looking and couldn’t find it.. so it might be in the floor/walls. Currently on my laptop cause I can’t even stomach being in the back half of the house where my desktop is. Urgh. The bunnies room doesn’t smell yet… and I moved the bird to the bedroom to keep him from it. Also today there is something dead under our porch or something (which is covered so no access to under it without taking things apart) so double whammy if you walk outside.
We had a mouse die in one of the walls at work. We tried everything from air sanitizers to coffee grinds to odor absorbing sponges that are used to remove smoke odors after fires. Tge only thing that got rid of the smell was the maint crew ripping open the wall and removing the mouse.
Many hugs for M&M!!
LLH, I do the same thing with my runs, planning out the number of songs to get through it. And on my long runs I will also listen to a podcast so I don’t get too bored! I am doing a half next month so I am right in the middle of training. It’s fun but also exhausting!
Thanks for all the good bonding wishes. No direct interaction for now, I decided. Today I built a new cage that has a divider in the middle so that they can spend more time near each other and getting used to living together. So far they haven’t even tried to attack each other through the bars! (The divider is a double-wall with about 2 inches in between so they can’t hurt each other when I am not around.) If they can stay peaceful I’ll try introducing them again.
We live in a rental, so ripping out the walls isn’t an option unless the landlord does it.
I have some things ordered that are supposed to work specifically on the smell of decay… hoping something will help some. Our landlord still hasn’t fixed our plumbing (it’s gonna cost $5000 or so, cause he has to dig up the yard and replace the outside pipes since they have tree roots in them), so I can’t see him wanting to rip open the walls to find a mouse.
There was a dead mouse behind the desk at my old job. I remember coming in and the smell just hitting you. I found him relatively easily though and tossed him outside.
Nora how bad is the pooping haha? I find bonding and the loss of litterbox habits fascinating (driving reason Lilith will probably never get a friend, at least not for a while).
Hi everyone – I’m back! It’s Andi’s fault! Stalked me (okay, really she was stalking Manny!) on Facebook and it was impossible for me to make it through the day without coming back!
Hope everyone is doing well. I see Nora is bonding – good luck, Nora! I am STILL battling it out w/ my quartet. I think I’ve come to the conclusion that they are the absolute hardest bonds! However, we’ve made a lot of progress!
If anyone wants to add me, feel free to message me and ask! I am a Facebook fiend and posts lots & lots of rabbit stuff!

Hey fellow runners (and supporters of runners) I started a running thread here!
Ok so I have to share a cute story. My hubby’s uncle was giving hubby a hard time for not calling his mom enough (uncle is middle-aged single guy with no kids who is in the car a lot so plenty of time to call his own mom). My hubby said “I have a wife, two jobs, a new house, a bunny, and my bunny has a bunny! I don’t have any free-time!”
I had to laugh cuz then he apologized to Rocky and told him “sorry buddy but you know we only got you to make Pumpkin happy!”
LLH — Pumpkin is definitely a daddy’s girl! Speaking as the mother of a son, tell your hubby he should definitely call his mother more often!
Nora — hang in there! Some bunnies are just plain stubborn!
LLH: That is hilarious! And very cute
I admire your running, I got into running last year but I have a hard time with it. I wish I was good at it but I can’t run fast nor far. But I will get back into it again sometime soon.
Sarita: I couldnt imagine what you are going through. ((hugs))
I hope everyone that is having bonding struggles has a perfectly bonded pair or quartet soon!!!
I didn’t realize what a good bunny Kieko is until having to give the M&Ms meds. Kieko just sits there and lets us put drops in her eye when it acts up — she’ll even tilt her head a little for us sometimes! She won’t take meds from a syringe anymore but will happily take meds on lettuce.
Marlee actually likes her Baytril (huh?), and will lick it from a syringe. However, she has to stretch it out. Lick a little, go play, lick a little more, check out what Moshi is doing, lick a little, eat some hay, lick a little, demand pets. Took 1/2 hour to get .7 cc’s in her this morning. We get to repeat this again tonight. 2 weeks worth . . . to start.
Moshi wants no part of touching unless pleasure is involved and pushing his eyelid back does not fall into the pleasure category. The only way to get drops in his eye is to pick up the bunny which is a no-no. Took two of us 20 minutes to get one drop in his eye and then he foot-flicked us like a baby bronco. We have to do this 3 times per day, plus get pain meds in him. One week then a recheck to see if the med is working, then continue.
I am not having fun.
You’ll get there eventually, Nora!
Lol, LLH! Your bunny has a bunny. And yes, hubby needs to call him mom more often!
I’m sorry you’re having such a hard time with the M&Ms, JR. At least Kieko is being good for you.
Moshi licked his pain med right from the syringe! Yay! Eye drop is still a problem. He’s the oddest little fellow. I had to pick him up and hold him while hubby put the drop in and then Mosh got his pellets. I just sat there and watched them eat. Moshi would inhale a few bites, look at me, run into the tunnel haven or hidey house, then sneak back over and sit right up against my leg. I’d pet him (or try to!) and he’d hop back to his pellets and do it all over again.
LOL TL!!! And you know when I sent her a FB friend request, I thought how is she going to know it’s me??? So I wrote a quick message ‘Hi Tanlover (so she’d know I was from BB, lol!), it’s me Andi from BB – you know…. Henry’s mum. If your still thinking WHO? Think Manny!’, ha ha ha ha!
Oh gosh JR, I can’t believe the M&M’s are putting you through more grief? Poor babies….. poor MUM!
Pumpkin is definitely a daddy’s girl!!
Oh Moshi…we had eye drops for Pumpkin for awhile when we first got her. We would either have one person hold her tightly while the other pulled her eye open to put in a drop or hubby got good at getting her nice and petted and relaxed and dropping them in while she was stretched out.
PS I’ll tell hubby you all think he should call his mom more
I called my own today and it’s never pleasant, so I’m not sure why I was surprised total was awful. Oh well. She’s just very negative and sometimes it’s too much to deal with!
LLH –I think your mother lives at my house. Oh wait, that would *my* mother!
Really? Putting drops in Wooly’s eyes are a piece of cake. Ointment, on the other hand, um no. LOL But yeah, getting anything into his mouth that isn’t naners is a nightmare. I feel for you there JR.
I don’t know how people live with their parents??? I don’t even like living with my kid’s or ‘husband’!
I often see a nice little one bedroom unit and imagine myself living very happily while having everyone visit upon invitation only!
LOL!
So far getting meds in the mouth isn’t bad. Hoping he starts chilling about the eye drops because picking up the bunny 3 timesca day is a nightmare!
JR if that’s my mom there you can keep her!
Andi I’m picturing you holed up with the doors locked shouting i didn’t invite you as your family knocks and rings the doorbell!
I personally couldn’t have any roommate. Hubby would like to rent the basement. ..no thank you!
LOL Justina!!! (true!) ha ha ha…..
Another bad habit I have picked up recently – stripping naked in the laundry to put my clothes in the washing machine and starting it and then walking to the shower, EEEK! Lol! I don’t even have the decency to wrap a towel around me…. ha ha ha! It was a great day that my kid’s left home and their friends stopped visiting!
Gosh JR – I would cringe at the thought of having to pick Henry up 3 times a day. So would HE! Poor Moshi….
LLH — it was a promise I made to my father when he was dying. If I knew then, I would never have made that promise.
My mom could NOT live with us. OMG, she would drive me insane. Plus she is so freaking snoopy! Can you imagine all of the things she would snoop through and then confront me about?
I don’t snoop, but if I come across something I have to have a sticky beak….. I remember when I first moved in with the hubby, he had a shoebox that he told me NOT to look in. So, he left for work and out came the shoebox! Soooo, that’s what his ex looks like, mmmmm…… She even wrote to him and yes I read EVERY letter – I was busy for hours, ha ha ha ha!
How dumb of him to tell me NOT to look at something, especially a stash in a shoebox! Idiot! I am a girl….
As far as the kid’s – I didn’t snoop, but was always in their face….. and lets be honest, probably better I didn’t/don’t know??? Lol!
Andi, what a dope! That’s like code for “here, honey….take a peek inside!”. Tisk tisk.
Thank you TL!
Ha ha ha ha ha…….
IDIOT!
OH, I should add that I hear my son Denny every week!!! Impressed???
Yep, it’s always the day before he gets paid to borrow a few dollars till ‘tomorrow’….. *SIGH*!
I have a shoebox too.
You guys crack me up! Andi it’s not your fault you snooped–that’s on him! I would have done the same thing.
JR that’s tough since you promised your dad. I would have a hard time breaking a promise to my dad.
I suppose if we needed money they would hear from us more! haha! We haven’t really needed help from them (either parents) in years. Although two of my hubby’s adult siblings (ages 30 and 26) still live at home. I would think that’s enough child interaction for them!
YOU have a SHOEBOX JR??? You know that I hate to fly, but I’m catching the next flight over….. I ‘have’ to see what’s inside! Why did you tell me that??? LOL!
I have to laugh Justina – even though 2 of my kid’s have moved out and Blair is still with us and will always be – do you know my daughter cuts his fingernails (ha ha ha – true!) and Denny cuts his hair and gives him a shave…… NO ONE gets out of Blair duty!!! LOL!
And seriously, tell me NOT to look??? I was looking at my hubby’s phone and he grabbed it off me – WHAT??? That made me more intent to read it. Why are men so stupid??? If he hadn’t of reacted, I wouldn’t have bothered….. but he did, so did I! Lol!
AH — we’ve had the phone tug too! My shoebox is almost completely covered in masking tape — to keep *me* out of it! If hubby wants to look in there, that’s OK. He knows what’s in it and just not interested. Everything in there is just to remind me what a fool I was, so during those moments when hubby aggravates the crap out of me, just seeing that shoebox sitting in my closet (I don’t even have to open it!) reminds me what else is out there and that I could have been married to someone far worse!
Yep, I get that JR…. and I can’t talk after the kid’s father and I divorced. I just can’t stand secrets, OR when someone indicates they are keeping a secret – like NOT letting me look at their phone OR shoebox! Lol! I get that everyone has a past and not everyone needs to know about it, if anyone does at all. But I am a HUGE trust freak! If I believe for one minute that I can’t trust you or I can’t be trusted in return, I can’t have a relationship of any sort with you. Remember that quiz I did, lol….. Loyal! It’s true – I am. And I can’t help but expect the same in return from the people you are closest to.
If anyone is wondering….. my hubby threw out the shoebox, AND my wedding album from my marriage to the kid’s father. I am still furious over this – those photo’s were for my kid’s and had pictures of my grandma, grandad and mum who are no longer with us. See, if we were just open about it from day one I wouldn’t have cared about his stupid shoebox and my kid’s would have had photo’s of me with their father knowing they were produced from two people who loved each other at that time. And my hubby that I have been married to for the last 17 years had/has nothing to worry or be insecure about – my daughter is taking him suit shopping next week for her to choose his suit to walk her down the isle.
MEN!!! ![]()
So, I remembered you guys talking about bad air sponges (I don’t know who mentioned them? One of you did…) and I remember it saying “human decay”. So, I ordered 1lb of it and it arrived today. After a few hours in the bathroom (where the smell is coming from) and a few pieces of it left in my room, the smell is MOSTLY gone. There is a slight smell of play-doh from the sponge and a very trace scent of death, but nowhere near as bad as it was. Hopefully as it spends more time in there, it’ll get rid of the smell completely! Thank you whoever mentioned that product all those months ago. haha
The vet looked at Yohio’s teeth today when he was in for his vaccination and said they are uneven. He’s not shown symtoms of not wanting to eat, but as soon as he does, we’ll know what’s up. I of course knew that already. Just makes you upset when there’s sth wrong with your pet.
I bought a bike at an auction today and that worries me too because I’ve never bought anything at an on-line auction before and so on. My bike was stolen the other day, too bad because it was a good bike. I probably forgot to lock it.
I am a huge trust freak too, although I find it hard to trust people… o.O
Let’s be clear though, I am not a hermit who lives in their room though. I have friends and best friends, but due to being betrayed a few times I don’t ever really “confide” in them as a lot of friends do. I only have 1 best friend I would tell ANYTHING to her. I completely trust her 100%. As for my other friends I’ll confide a little in, but nothing major…
Stickerbunny— So do you think those sponges would work for pet odors too? My dog sometimes poos in her kennel when she’s in there for a little while, and even when I clean everything and change the bedding my room sometimes smells a little after. Do you remember the brand you bought? ![]()
I looked it up and will definitely be buying one of those “bad air sponges”. They seem to have good reviews, and it should work good. ![]()
Stickerbunny — I think it was me that brought up the bad air sponges. I swear by them. I think they didn’t work at my workplace because the mouse was in a wall in a huge room that is set up with partitions to make cubicles. We use them at home and they work great, especially if you can close a door. I don’t know if they will absorb odors out of drywall though (the mouse at work had decayed *into* the drywall). If you ever have stinky man cleats left in a closed gym bag for 6 months, the bad air sponge will do the trick!
I was on the phone with Dish for a total of 1 hour and 15 minutes. I just want to pull my hair out. They make me so angry. I want to cry, this is how furious I am with them.
I got absolutely nothing done today. It was nothing but running around town, trying to figure things out for various things (cell phones, home phone, etc.). We were out all day. =\
I’ll deal with Dish for you LBJ if you’ll deal with my son! He went somewhere he wasn’t supposed to be tonight and the truck got towed. I had to pay $150 to get the truck back. I gave the tow guy my name and phone number and asked him to call me if he’s patrolling and finds the truck parked illegally again — I’ll pay the $150 for him not to tow it and I’ll come get the truck and let my son sweat it out thinking its been stolen. Seriously, how old do you have to be before you understand what “No Parking. Towing Enforced.” means?
Well I just got off the phone with them for the 3RD time! OMG, I’m just furious with them. “I’m sorry, your receiver was deactivated because you placed a work order to have your receivers replaced”. WTH? We have an appointment in 3 weeks to get new receivers installed, why the heck would you deactivate the ones we have NOW?
LOL, JR, sorry I can’t help but find that funny. Yeah, he should know better. You should make him sweat it out thinking someone stole it.
JR — that sucks! But I can’t talk, I did that to my grents too many times to count!
Andi — I can’t stand that either! Aaron has pictures of past relationships saved on his computer, he says just to remember things by. I have pictures of exs for no reason, they are just mixed in with all my other old photos of family & stuff. It’s funny… I used to be so paranoid about Aaron w/ certain things before. Now that we are back together, I’m like… “idc, if you f* up… I’m gone!” I think the fear of us breaking up doesn’t make me back down like it used to. I know I can do it if I need to. I stand up for myself so much more in our relationship now!
I’m still bonding my quartet (Simba, Lacey, Tucker, & Zoe). We are getting SO CLOSE to being done…I can feel it. But slightly not close enough to feel comfortable leaving them alone. I want them to just CLICk so badly. Obviously, no one in their right mind can bond as much as I have these last 5 months. SIGH. I leave them together constantly now and they are officially “moved in” to their area. SImba & Lacey have shown massive signs of being territorial so we pulled put their carpet & put a new one down so it didnt smell like them. And then I moved them in. However, since I dont feel comfortable leaving them together, I am worried they will become territorial of certain parts…so when I leave the house I put Simba & Lacey in an x-pen in the middle in a circle. So it’s almost like they are together & there are absolutely ZERO corners or hidey spots for anyone to become defensive over. It seems to be working, I’ve done it all week & every night I’ve removed the x-pen there have been no territorial behaviors. No one can say I’m not dedicated to bonding!
I’m so mad…..My Apple Watch (ordered weeks ago) finally shipped last night overnight and was supposed to be here today. Well, the UPS guy says the guard wasn’t here to sign for the package…. GRRR. So I call & say well change it to pick up if I can pick it up tonight so they say yes & put me down for will-call & say they will call back in an hour to let me know a time I can get it tonight. An hour and a half later I called back & said… “I still havent gotten a call” so they put in another request for someone to call me. This person calls me 20 minutes later & says I can’t pick it up tonight b/c they already unloaded that truck…. BIG GRRR. So now I Have to wait until tomorrow! What’s the point of overnight shipping if you don’t get it the next day?!!
Tan – That sucks. I hate how you can almost never pick up a package the day you missed a delivery. They do the same thing here. “Sorry, we can’t give it to you cause we need to sort it first and that won’t happen until tomorrow…” BUT IT’S RIGHT THERE I CAN SEE IT! Silly post office. Hope you get it bright and early tomorrow.
JR – Yeah, they seem to work nice. I think this one died in the floor / wall. Our house has like a 1″ gap between the floor and the wall in EVERY ROOM, the ENTIRE length of the rooms. So, the mice have the easiest entry ever and in winter, it’s impossible to keep them out (usually stuffing the holes works, but with the draft that comes from the gaps, there has to be a lot of holes and I stuffed all I could find with no impact). Usually I just set traps up (live traps!) when it warms up and they go away until next winter. This time one apparently died before it warmed up though.
It’s infecting two rooms so I am guessing the wall between them is where it happened. The bathroom is mostly smell free (well, a lot less than it was) and my room still stinks a bit. So, still not able to use my desktop! lol Tempted to move everything in the living room… but that’s a project. Sites say give it two weeks or so to fully decay and stop smelling. Hoping just waiting it out will work. Our landlord has had to replace nearly all the easily accessed plumbing, the A/C unit has been repaired twice, the outdoor plumbing has to be replaced, the basement flooded, the furnace had to be replaced.. this house is a mess. Glad we didn’t go for the rent-to-own option he offered, or we’d have been stuck with all these repairs.
Moxie – Yeah, it says it works on human feces smell from nursing homes and such where they have dirty depends. So, I assume it’d work on a doggy accident smell. It has a SLIGHT odor kinda like the cakes they use in public restroom toilets. But, it’s better to smell that than grossness. Just open it up and place it nearish and it absorbs the smells pretty well.
Should be getting a car on the 7th.
Which means I can go back to work. And start volunteering at the local humane society, hopefully. Living with no car and no public transportation has sucked.
Absolutely furious. My students broke something that belonged to the teacher whose room we were using. o_O
Moshi cracks me up. Gave him his dinner pellets to try to distract him so we could either get the eye drop in quick or pick him up to do the drop (ended up having to pick him up). After the drop, he went back to his pellets . . . and carefully dragged the bowl two feet and into the tunnel haven to finish eating in peace!
TL Oh that’s gotta hurt. Especially when you’re waiting for an Apple Watch!!! I can tell my husband is going to want one some day, but I think he’s hoping the price comes down. What fun, though!!
JR That Moshi has it made!! What a character!
JR–That is funny!
Last day of April! I can’t believe how fast time is flying!
Moshi cracks me up! I wish you could have gotten video of that!
Bahaha Moshi was all “you aren’t picking me up again! I’ma eat in peace!”
