Anything I can do for nasal congestion?

This is my first post on Binky Bunny- I made an account a week or so ago because my 2 year old lionhead Peter is not doing well.

My vet said that he has mycoplasma which is something that will always come back. Recently, (end of Dec 2015) he had another flare up of nasal discharge, wheezing, etc and was put on oral Di-trim which has worked in the past. This time however, it was hardly effective at all so we have tried a couple of rounds of injectable Enrofloxacin (I gave orally) which did help some, but has not knocked it out completely.

Unfortunately Peter formed an abscess due to a tooth needing to come out. He is scheduled for an extraction this coming Tuesday (Feb 9th) although with his respiratory issues, anesthesia is pretty risky. 

What I’d like to know is if there is anything I can do to help relieve the wheezing and nasal congestion- I’ve been keeping his nose clean, but even after removing the discharge, it still sounds like he’s congested.

My vet is going to call on Monday to answer some questions I have about the procedure, but I was wondering if it has to be done with full out anesthesia. Are there any less risky alternatives?

Humidity? It might help with the congestion a bit. If you don’t have a room humidifier, you could take him in the bathroom and turn the water in the shower on hot so it fills the bathroom with steam.

Thank you for responding- I do have a room humidifier that I can put in there with him, so I’ll try that
