Anyone else’s bunny act like a dog?

Ever since I started my job months ago, goblin has been acting like a dog. He sits by the door waiting for me to come home. When I come inside he gets excited and runs up and down the hall then sniffs my bag and me for inspection. Then he sits with me on the couch. He’s so cute lol.

He’s never alone either, but I am the only one that matters to him, hah.

Lol, is he a larger breed? I have a Flemmie who acts dog-ish and I read before that the large ones do take on “dog-like” behaviors.

Nope! He is a mini lop. Only weighs about 5 lbs on his fat days

I have 2 small dogs that Bumpy has bonded with. He pretty much acts like them. Before I brought home 2 new buns, I would walk around the house and the dogs and Bumpy would be hot on my trail. Since bringing home 2 new buns, and everyone having to be separated for now, and Bumpy getting less floor time… well.. I guess now he’s acting more like a rabbit. He disapproves greatly of the new arrangements. The new buns hop around the dogs, but we haven’t gotten to the point where they lay with them. Perhaps now that there are other rabbits here, once they are bonded, Bumpy may not hang out with the dogs anymore, we’ll have to wait and see about that.

Porky stands up and begs, I think most bunnies share that trait with dogs.

A friend of mine back in my 4H days had a french lop that followed her everywhere.

Nope. I keep saying to my partner that the shelter gave me cats with rabbit ears. They love patches of sunlight and show their love with aloof disdain! Occasionally I get surprise cuddles but its entirely on the buns terms :p

Hahaha, YES. I like to joke that Theodore is just a quiet, vegetarian dog. Although he’s a smaller rabbit at 4 lbs, and the larger breeds are typically the ones with those big, dog-like personalities, Theodore is the same way. He’s super mellow, but he rushes up to the edge of the pen when I walk in the room, stands on his hind legs and follows me around when I let him out. He runs in circles around my feet (though that’s a very rabbit behavior I can’t help but see a dog when he does this) when he thinks he’s getting a treat. He also enjoys little ruffles on his head like you’d do with a dog.

I’m glad I found your thread. I was just thinking that Borys acts like a dog when I go into his pen. He goes absolutely bonkers for a couple of minutes. He runs in big loops that get smaller, makes a couple of trips through and over his cardboard tunnels, and ends his show by running between my feet, just once. Sometimes he adds a binky or two, sometimes just a head binky.

It’s a routine!

It’s especially funny because he lives in my home office, so we’re together at least 12 hours a day. It’s just that I haven’t rabbit proofed all the cords around my computer, phone lines, etc. yet, so have to keep a barrier between us. We can see each other, and I stop to give him nose rubs or treats any time he jumps up on his house to say, “Hi.” I’m just hoping he doesn’t figure out how to jump from his roof over the barrier. It seems like a very awkward process, but you never know.

After his manic, joyful run, he remembers that he’s a Joe Cool, very Alpha bunny, and ignores me for a few minutes. Makes himself busy eating LOL Unless I immediately sit down and groom him. He’s up for that!
