Anyone else’s bonded pairs do this?

Mimzy & Obi-bun have been bonded for a year now, almost exactly, they’re still sweet to each other (mostly Obi to Mimzy) Obi will groom her all the time, they cuddle, share food/water bowls (even though there’s 2)

But Mimzy every once in a while gets grumpy & goes after Obi for no reason I guess other than she feels like it or she’s frustrated & takes it out on her husbun! They don’t fight, she just chases him, lunges, or growls at him, sometimes she still mounts him?? & he just runs away waiting to love on her after she’s done throwing a fit. It’s usually when she’s hungry, but once the food is down she’s totally fine sharing with him. So lately I’ve tried holding one of them before I put the food down, & then let them both eat after it’s down. I just can’t figure out why she’s doing this if they’re otherwise so good together?

Is she just a grumpy bun who needs to get frustrations out? I try to block her from chasing him every time (when I can) & thump at her when she does it but she just won’t stop & I can tell Obi doesn’t like it. Spraying water doesn’t seem to phase her much either. I’m at a loss!

I thought at first it was her still trying to make sure he knows she’s boss & that she would stop eventually but it’s been going on a while. Should I try bonding sessions again even though they’re fine living together already? They have plenty of toys that I switch out, always have hay & water, nothing has really changed. I just don’t get it

 

She’s also still chasing & lunging at the cat, will she ever stop once she’s made her point?

My M&Ms do this. A little different though. Moshi is definitely top bunny — he is the one always demanding grooming (and Marlee obeys), he steals Marlee’s food bowl after he finishes his (she’s happy to share with him), etc. However, Marlee gets a bug up her butt sometimes and will chase him, bite his butt, and hump him (usually his face). When she humps him, he usually just tosses her off and runs away, but if she keeps it up he’ll finally turn around and hump her and it all stops. Sometimes she seems to just want to play and she’ll bite his butt and they chase each other and binky around. Other times, she seems like she’s just being snitty. It always ends in grooming — Marlee grooming Moshi, then Moshi grooming Marlee, then trying to groom each other at the same time (which is adorable). I’ve tried forced snuggles with them, but this seems to be their new normal even though it has only been going on the past few months and they’ve been together since they were babies. I only intervene when she humps his face and he doesn’t immediately toss her off (he can toss her off easily because she’s smaller and has to jump up on his head and jump her feet up and down off the floor to do it!).

I thought maybe she’s just trying to play but there’s growling? & Obi never seems to be enjoying it haha. I’m feeling like she’s unhappy about something but I have no idea what -.-

Bruno and Harley are total love buns. Always together, no fighting. But almost every time they are out, she mounts him a couple times as if to say “don’t forget whose bunny you are.”

Caesar and Roxie have a strange relationship. Normally, its fairly mild, cuddles and stuff. But sometimes she goes crazy and chases him and mounts him and tackles him. But only for a few minutes. He honestly just goes a long with it and takes a nap when she’s done.

I think some bunnies are just neurotic.

Caesar and Roxie actually remind me a lot of my husband and I. I go crazy, carry on about stuff, totally spazz and he just sits quietly and listens til I’m done. Lol

Mine don’t really do that, but it isn’t unheard of. Some bunny relationships will have their little tiffs, but everything is quickly forgiven. The only thing happening over here is occasional humping (always Leopold humping Wooly for seemingly no reason). I have never witnessed anything else.

In my opinion, things like this should not need intervening. If no one is distressed and it’s mostly all show, then it’s better to let them work things out on their own.
