anybody else give their buns this toy?

Charlie loves these ball toys with the jingling ball inside, but she eats them down to almost nothing. It says its safe for rabbits but I have noticed before that when she poops it’ll be stringy every once in a while and I’m thinking it’s from this toy. Does anybody else give these to their buns and do they eat them? I’d hate to take them away because she loves them and they’re one of the only toys she actually plays with it, but I would hate for her to have some kind of GI issue from eating it.

That is concerning that you’re seeing long strings in her poop. I’m fairly sure I’ve seen exactly this sort of toy, but made of hay instead of sisal so it wouldn’t have that issue of string in the poop.

When you say stringy poop, how do you mean? Do you mean poops strung together resembling a string of pearls?

My bunnies have woven sea grass balls and tunnels that they chew on, but they never get stringy-ness from it. They have been getting string of pearl poops though because they were moulting.

It’s very strange because it mentions encouraging play, and chasing but it doesn’t mention can be eaten. And what happens when they get down to the nitty-gritty ball ?

right! She had one before and ate it down to half of the ball left and i just took out the plastic ball…it’s definitely too big for her to swallow but i took it out anyways.
I should clarify that her poops aren’t always stringy from it – more often than not they’re normal but every once in a while when I see the strings I get nervous

Yes, my rabbit has had toys like this. He, too, eats them down to completely nothing! He had a ball and a carrot made from this, but he especially will chew willow down to nothing. I think that your best bet as far as the toy goes, is to limit her use of it. For example, only allow her to use it during the hours you let her out of play time, and with you supervising only. Don’t let her completely eat it to bits, until further notice from your vet. I know it would be awfully sad to take it away completely because every bunny likes different things, and it can be hard sometimes to find a toy just right for your bunny. For now, maybe just supervise/limit her with the toy. Also, be careful about what toys you leave overnight in her hutch. Maybe it could be from the bell inside? I bought my bunny a ball with a bell inside, and those toys I take away if they chew down to the bell, and supervise. Maybe you can try getting her another one without the bell, as well as limiting the use of the toy with the bell. For right now though, I’d call your vet. Anything with their G.I. tract is extremely dangerous, as you know. You are doing the right thing by noticing and being concerned. Best of luck
