Any Tips for Protecting Bunny Eyes?

Hello again, I am posting from my phone so bear with me if formatting is off. I apologize.

Dima is wobbly with his lack of mobility and he tumbles during the day. I keep his area padded as well as I can. However, we are unlucky enough to be in the Great Lakes snow squalls and Dima tumbled while we were out. I figured my appointment wouldn’t be long but with bad driving it took hours. I don’t know how long he had been on his side. When I got home, I saw one eye open and one eye closed. It honestly looked like he lost his eye. After further inspection, and some clean up, the eye was still there but it is very raw. I called the vet but with everything being slowed down from the storm, they can see me earliest tomorrow afternoon.

I plan on keeping his eye clean. But what can I do to protect his eyes besides lots of padding? Any tips? I keep hoping there is a bunny helmet out there somewhere! Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I wouldn’t worry to much until tomorrow -the vet will see if any damage was done. My rabbit who had head tilt scratched her cornea, it was no big deal-drops for a few weeks and it healed great. My other rabbit injured his eye (no idea how) same thing, and healed very quickly. They usually give a drop for the healing and a drop for pain so they don’t scratch at it.

If it won’t upset him, maybe you can wrap his front paws up in some vet wrap (if you have any and if he won’t fuss and won’t pull it off) that would keep him from mucking about in his eye with his paw. Or an E-collar if you have one. But really I don’t think much is feasible or would do much good.

Just make sure he’s eating and comfortable-tomorrow is soon

Dima has a corneal ulcer from his ordeal. I feel so guilty. I’ve dealt with corneal ulcers in cattle and horses but they were younger, and believe it or not, easier to handle.

The plan of action now is Baytril, continuing his daily Metacam dose and the vet is going to get back to us concerning an ocular steroid drops. Obviously, I must keep it clean.

Dima is acting “normally” but his eye is just disheartening to look at. Just thought I’d update this post, that’s all.
