Thanks Jersey and Mimz – I really appreciate your kindness. We finally have a wonderful caregiver in to help with my folks. A sweet very experienced CNA that has tons of experience with azlheimers (what my mother has) and with the stroke issues that my father has had. And the best part is my folks lover her too, so that makes it so much better.
I sure wish my folks would choose to live with or near family, but they love their sleepy little town in Tennesee (great for retirees, not so much for people who are still in their working years) But for now we found wonderful care that they also like and it allows them to stay in the home they love, and THANK GOODNESS for Long-Term Care insurance so they have this option. I know that I will be looking into Long-Term Care insurance before it gets very expensive. I recommend it people who are in a healthcare system like the U.S. ) It scares me to think what could happen without it. Especially since Steve and I have chosen to not have kids – we have to plan for our own elderly care, and though I hope for change in our healthcare system, if it is later what it is now — well, just scary what each state can do to you when you can no longer fully take care of yourself.
So I feel so fortunate that my folks thought enough to at least to get it for my mother (which helps serve my father indirectly). My father was denied Long-term care insurance due to his heart problems, so again, it’s best to get the insurance when you are healthy!
Sorry…just realized I went on a healthcare rant – just learned so much via this process and now that I am back home, I sure am looking at some things differently.
