Any Flemmie?Continental owners? I have questions!

No, I’m not ready to get another bunhun yet, I’m still grieving over my Clover.

But I know I will one day, and I love a big bunny.  I’ve always wanted a Flemmie, so I thought I’d ask actual slaves on here well before I get to that point.

My most important question is:  How much pee and poop are we talking about here?  I know Clover could produce a fairly goodly amount of waste at 14 lbs, and I want to make sure I’m prepared with proper sized litter boxes and cleaning schedule should that day arrives.

So any current Flemmie slaves want to chime in?

P.S. I’m not married to the idea of a Flemmie, I’m open to any big bun.

Sorry for your lost of Clover.

To answer litter box questions..I don’t believe the pee or poop amounts will be much more than Clovers was. They get big so a large litter pan is a must. Whiskers likes to move his all around the home base depending on where he wants to lay. Right now I am changing his pan daily, but suspecting to be able to start doing it every other day with just removing the wet area daily and topping off the litter. The reason why I am doing daily is because of summer and the humidity. I want to prevent fly strike and we are good as far as that goes. I tend to go over and beyond on anything I can prevent so I change it daily. You may not have to depending on your preference and your bun.

At 1 yr old Whiskers can go through some hay that’s for sure plus his greens and 1 cup of pellets a day (vet recommended amount).

Whiskers has discovered he likes to throw things around to get where he wants. We laugh. We have an empty small litter pan we let him throw and move around the house. Once neutered he never has accidents outside of his litter pan in home base. Otherwise I wouldn’t give him an empty one to play with. He is a growing bunny and he has some maucle and height to him when he is standing on his back legs so all cords must be 3 feet above the floor level. He does like to try to cover himself up with my curtains.lol.

I can’t ask for a better bunny.

3 FEET? Wow. That’s AWESOME!

How is Whiskers as a cuddler? I keep hearing that Flems are more like dogs than rabbits, and love to be petted and cuddled. (Yes, I know, I’m clearly trying to replace Clover as much as possible. Don’t judge me. )

The ones I’ve met have always been so laid back, so mellow, almost Zen.

And thanks for answering these questions. I love finding out new things about our furry masters.

Whiskers is very mellow and loves to snuggle. He is even getting to the point now where he will sit on my lap for a bit before running off to play. He loves pets and attention. Whiskers will run around and play and every so many minutes he runs back to me for loving.

I do not know if all Flemish do this but he does. He eats hay out of our grandchildrens hands and likes the attention. Very calm.

The only time he spazzes out is with the vacuum and that is because the light on our new one is floor level and comes out of the sides as well as the front so it looks scarey. So when I vacuum I move the vacuum in a manner that leaves him behind the vacuum.

He loves throwing his food dishes at 5 am for his pellets. I love it. He gives me snuggles first thing.

I am not sure how long he is, I will have to get a tape measure or yard stick out and find out when he is laying down. His home base is 33″ high and he reaches almost to the top fully stretched out( if he could stand on his tip toes he would be right before that point). I would say 27″ give or take. So he is up there and still growing.

He does Not like being picked up. But so easy going. Wonderful bunny. He is so wonderful that if I had room I would have more Flemish bunnies. He is so gentle. Doesn’t bite , only lightly digs our feet for attention nothing that marks and he does it 1 time and that is it. We brush him out and no problems. He had to get use to that though and so we took it slow but now no biggy. He lays there for his daily brushing. I brush him daily because he likes it. He doesn’t she’d much except for a big molt spell but that is with any bunny.

If you decide on a Flemish I hope yours is as good as mine.
