I’m moving to Brooklyn in NINE DAYS!!!! I’m so excited.

Just wondering if anyone from BB lives in the area. I’m planning on joining the House Rabbit Society there, I know they have meetings and talks and stuff like that. At first we’ll be in a tiny studio apartment and the rabbit cage is actually going to take up a large portion of it LOL. The limited space is going to be more annoying for me and my cat than Mr. Bun-Bun for sure.

We’re going to look for a bigger apartment in a month or two, I really hope that having a rabbit won’t be a problem when finding a new place! From what I’ve heard it’s still pretty difficult to find apartments in NYC and good places get snapped up quickly… won’t somebody with a cat and rabbit fall to the bottom of the list? I guess I have to hope for pet-friendly landlords. I know that a lot of people in NYC have rabbits (thus the active House Rabbit Society) so fingers crossed!

Look at that photo! So darn cute.

They have an excellent House Rabbit Society and I bet they can guide you to any known pet friendly apartments or give you some good advice on how to find them. I guess the small apartment just comes with big city living and you have to be pretty darn creative when you live small :~)

Too true, after living in the same apartment for 8 years I’ve hoarded so much stuff I don’t need… it feels great to purge and donate so much! Even if we get a 2 BR apartment it won’t be as big as this one… makes you realize how many things are completely unnecessary!

My fiance is really good at getting people to go along with what he wants, so I think I’ll put him in charge of convincing prospective landlords that they would be lucky to have a rabbit tenant! LOL

What’s shocking to me is how many people who supposedly know me ask what I’m going to do with my animals… as if I would ever leave them behind?!? Yeah they’ll be annoyed with the move but they have no choice!!

Hurrah and welcome to the area!
I’m just over the river in NJ but many of my coworkers live in NYC and have pets. I can see if they have any advice.

I always made sure to highlight what a great pet a rabbit was – quiet, clean (I didn’t mention her throwing hay everywhere lol), not destructive (well, she’s not… don’t know about yours), then again bring up the QUIET thing.

              Good luck!

I’m not in NYC, but I am in CT about 90min away (and will be moving to the Hudson Valley, also about 90min away). Welcome to the area!

Doesn’t Amy Sedaris live in NYC?

I’m assuming this1st apartment you’ll be in is pet friendly?  Perhaps the landlord could write you a reference when you vacate to help you in securing the next place.

Congrats on your engagement by the way!

Amy Sedaris does live in NYC! Maybe you’ll run into her at a house rabbit meeting!

Thanks for the congratulations! I’m looking forward to a new start!

Amy Sedaris does live in NYC and sometimes speaks at the House Rabbit Society meetings. My plan is to start attending and become her BFF! I’m sure it’ll work.
