        Hello,

I have had Ash for about a week now. Ash is a little boy, but I’m not exactly sure how old he is or even what breed he is. I have been assuming he is some kind of mix between breeds. I had a rabbit when I lived in my first apartment, and we ended up moving into a house with some friends due to some shady characters. My rabbit (Crickett) died the second day we were there. I wasn’t able to figure out what caused the problem. He was fed a healthy diet of limited pellets, unlimited hay and some vegetables. The entire time I lived with Crickett I was a lurker on these forums and I learned a great deal about how to take care of him. After Crickett died I didn’t want another rabbit for awhile, and when I finally decided I was ready to get another the landlord said no more pets were allowed in the house.

I am now living in another apartment, but it’s about as nice as you can find in this town and it has plenty of space for my new little guy to run around. This is his living situation as of right now: He has a medium size cage, but is allowed to run in about a 6X6 area for about 4-5 hours a day. This size will increase as he gets used to using his litter pan and I will get a litter box for him to use when he gets larger in case he can’t always make it back to his cage. (I am hoping he can be a free roam bunny, but I have to bunny proof the rest of the house first… which will be hard with a gaming audiophile for a bf). He has unlimited hay and pellets right now. I have not bought any green vegetables at this time because I am unsure what he should be eating at his age (which I am also unsure of). He has several toys of varying types that he plays with.

I found it strange that he seems to know where to use the bathroom already. I have only found a few poo pellets on the floor during play time and it’s usually after he does the bunny 500 several times around the play area and gets super excited. I was also surprised how relaxed he is already. I lay in his area and read the forums while he plays so he can get used to me, and he already flops down next to me (the first time scared the crap out of me). I have also found that he is an extremely bossy bunny and he has a certain course he likes to run through the “play pen” and if my leg happens to be in the way he will nudge me til I move. He also likes to form tunnels using my legs and if they are not in the “right spot” he will make me move them then too. He also nudges my back if it’s too close to the wall and he has decided that will be part of the bunny 500 race track. He has a very bossy personality but it cracks me up when he moves the gigantic monster that I am to the correct position.

He binkies around the area very frequently and LOVES my brother. My brother has only been over once since we got Ash but Ash climbs all over him and licks him constantly. He has licked my brother, my boyfriend and my face and I was surprised how nice his breath smells LOL (like hay). I thought it would be smelly like a dog’s breath.

So my questions are: How long should I wait until I take him to the vet to be neutered? What type of diet should he be on at this point in time? Is it common for a bunny to be so bossy, not that I mind?

Welcome! He is a cutie! I am not an expert with baby bunnies but I am sure someone could chip in and help you.

I would think to take him to the vet as soon as you can to have him checked out and then the vet can determine when the best time to get him neutered would be.

Good luck with your new baby! He’s adorable.

Okay thanks! I have a vet in mind. I just need to call her. I figured we should probably have a rabbit vet in town because we have a farm store that sells rabbits for easter every year (that’s where I got Crickett my first bun). I actually never got Crickett neutered because he never sprayed, but this little guy has a huge personality so I figure he will probably need it as soon as he is ready lol

Your bun is a total cutie! Welcome to BB! He looks fairly young. You’d be surprised by how smart buns really are. =] But it is totally normal for a bun to have a big personality. Skipper had a hyper little princess when she was a baby. She loved zooming around and terrorizing the cats. It sounds like he is very comfortable with you if he is flopping by you already! =]
