Another Craigslist Story…

Why did I have to look?! I went on CL this weekend looking at bunny postings.  Found this one, and just by looking at the picture, I wanted to have her.  I know, I know, I already have three but figured what’s ONE more?! Anyway, this is how it went…. Sorry for the long posting, but it really had me frustrated and made me want to rescue her even more… What do you think???

 

 

Me: Hello, can you tell me a little bit more about the bunny? Where and when did you get her? Is she spayed? Has she been to a vet?

 

Her:  I got her in june at the Alameda county fair. She has not been spayed or been to a vet since dwarf bunnies do not get spayed or get shots. That is only rabbits that sometimes do. I live in Antioch. I cannot call right now. I have 2 other people interested in her. And im afraid unless you are wanting to purchase her after you see her then we cant meet up. We would have to meet somewhere and i can not drive out somewhere once, hear that you need to think about and have me drive out somewhere a second time.

 

Me: I’m not sure what you are trying to say. You cannot expect someone to just look at her and buy it. I have three other bunnies so I have a little bit of experience with them. All my bunnies are dwarf bunnies and they have all been to the vet and 2 of three are spayed/neutered.

Anyway, if the other two don’t buy her, please let me know. We can actually come now if you can meet us.

 

Her: I am saying i have no time to go out numerous times for visits. There has to be an intent to buy. i also have experience with bunnies. No one has ever told my my bunnies need to go to the vet. And in antioch there isnt anyone here besides 1 person in oakley who see’s dwarf bunnies. I do not have my own car i share so i cant afford to meet up numerous times. That and i also have school. I cannot meet up today, sorry i dont have a car today.

 

Me:I live in Martinez and I take my buns to Hayward. There’s a really good vet just for future reference (if you need). Anyway, of course I have the intent to buy or else I wouldn’t ask to see her. I can meet you at home? You don’t have to go out of your way. Let me know. Thanks.

 

Her: Im going to be moving away in the next few months with my boyfriend who is in the airforce and we will be travleing around. It would be too hard to move herevery time with me. But we would have to meet somewhere because my parents dont want random people meeting at their house.

 

Me: I see- well if the other two people that are interested don’t buy her, please let me know. I am interested, but I understand your time and having to trouble your parents.

 

Her: I will be in concord tomorrow and wednesday the only problem is that i will only be there until about 9:30am.

 

Me: Our schedules are crazy during the weekday with work and school, so today would have been perfect.

 

Her: Yeah. My weekends arent free at all. Sorry. My weekends are spent with my boyfriends right now. He leaves in a month for the airforce. Is there any day where i could come out to martinez so you can meet her?

 

Me: Wednesday evening would probably be the best. Around 545-630p would work.

 

Her: How much would you be willing to pay for the bunny? Cause ill have to pay for my gas to get there.

 

Me: How much are you selling her for?

 

Her: Well i got her for $45. Im selling her for $30.

 

Me: Then I will pay $30 if I decide I want her. What are you feeding her?

 

Her: I feed her lettuce, carrots, and apples. I also get her some twigs from petsmart for her teeth.

 

Me: What about pellets?

 

Her: I don’t feed her pellets.

 

Me: Wow, that is really not enough. Babies NEED to be fed unlimited pellets. What about hay?

 

Her: She gets hay. And she is fed about 5 times a day. That is plenty of food for her.

 

Me: The cost of her is not a problem for me at all. But I’m asking all these questions because if she is not healthy it will cost me a lot in the long run. I will have to get her spayed and that is over $200.

 

Her: She is a very healthy bunny. We let her out daily for 2 hours in our house to run around. We cant let her out all the time because of our cats & dogs.

 

Me: Ok. Let me know maybe on Tuesday if you’re able to meet me.

 

Her: Where would u want to meet and what time

 

Me: Are you familiar with Martinez? I can meet you at Petco at 545p on Wednesday. Is she litter trained?

 

Her: I am not familiar with martinez. No she is not litter trained. Her cage has a drop so it doesnt stay where she sleeps.

 

Me: Why don’t YOU tell me where then. Since you said you’ll meet me in Martinez, I thought you were familiar.

 

Her: Because i will be close to martinez is why i said i could meet you there. I can always look up the petsmart for directions but i will get back to you soon.

Let’s think about you first, you have a pair and a single and you want a trio right? Sorry I haven’t been keeping up well with whos with who

Do you really want to get another rabbit? What’s your plans if you get the 4th and have to wait to spay her/wait for her to recover etc etc

Well it’s obvious this bunny needs helping and I know it pulls at all of our heartstrings, it’s up to you. And I am always down to help you with bonding if you want. I am real cheap, just require coffee to function

I was just on craigslist the other day and I posted this add on my facebook of this lady trying to get rid of a cage because her rabbit died. And if you saw the cage you know why it passed on. It was HORRID! I try to go on there to only look at fish stuff but curiosity always kills the cat. Guh.

I know… I’m getting Coconut (newest) neutered next week. I don’t know what I’m thinking…I guess maybe I just feel like it will be hard to bond Coconut to my other two so maybe I will get Coconut a friend and keep the two pairs separate forever. But I also know that maybe this bond won’t be easy as well…

2 pairs isn’t so bad, then you can bond all 4 Do you use xpens??

It’s hard to say if its going to be easy or not. My only issues were with my male to male bond.

We can just drive around town with them in the back of my mustang in a “Petzy cube” and drink coffee and have an epic bonding experience. We can be crazy bunny people together!!! yaaay!! I remember when I picked up Bun from like vacaville or something, it was a 2 hour drive…lol we went into the In and Out drive thru and all the people working there were like OMGGG A BUNNY!!!!!

I don’t use x-pens. I have a 3-story NIC cage for Sugar and Pepper out by the living room, and a 2-story NIC cage in my room for Coconut.  I let Sugar and Pepper out whenever I’m home.  Coconut has my room and the hallway and I only put him in the cage when I go to bed. 

Your plan sounds awesome!! I’ll let you know what happens and if I end up getting this poor bunny.

What’s worse is sheTHINKS she’s experienced with bunnies. I keep thinking about her but I just don’t think it’s a good idea for me….

I had to ban myself from looking at saveabunny. I had an adoption form all written out and Lesley had to talk me out of it. *cry*

I agree, don’t even look at Craigslist. I think you made a wise choice by passing on this rabbit. I remember your pair had a few fights when you brought Coconut home. I think you are best to just focus on your current three :~)

It’s easy to get sucked in by these animals on Craigslist.

You are right Sarita. My pair did fight bad when I brought Coconut home. It has definitely calmed down. Coconut is getting neutered next Friday so I should really focus on bonding the three and not worrying about a 4th. It really breaks my heart this one is not being taken care of properly.
