And so it happened – Stairs

Bun Bun has had free roam for most of the days since we got her in April, she has not tried to venture down the stairs. Until last night. She goes down them with ease and just goes to the landing then back up. So far she hasn’t ventured all the way down. I was hoping she was a rabbit who didn’t like stairs. 

Anyone else have a rabbit who likes stairs? Do you let them roam or do you block them? We have cats that have free roam so blocking is going to be tricky.

One of mine likes going up and down the stairs, the other hasn’t gone past the first step. I block the stairs off at night purely because I’m worried my boy (who doesn’t like stairs) will suddenly venture up and not know how to go back down.

I’m afraid many rabbits like stairs a lot =/ Gina.Jenny’s 6 buns for example. It’s good exercise, but if its an open staircase, it could be risky.

[Nibbles]

Nibbles loves the stairs! We used to block them off but had to lift the cats over the gate. Then Nibbles started knocking it over or jumping it so we gave up and rabbit proofed the upstairs.
Now that she has access to the stairs she likes to run up and down them, which is good since she is getting chubbier ?

The stairs are not open so no worries about that. And she goes to her cage at night; a new and improve cage is in the works.

Glad to know it isn’t too bad that she likes the stairs. For the longest, she would just sniff at them then turn around but I guess she got brave.

Our six all love racing up and down, Podge has always maintained he only bonded with Gina so easily cos he loved the stairs so much (Podge was adopted as a bond for Gina). Our stairs only have a basic banister, with gaps a bun could easily get through, but none ever have done more than poke a nose through…

The bun I had when I was a kid absolutely loved stairs. He would run up and down them like a game until he got tired out. It was hilarious!

If you dont want your bunny going down the stairs, you could consider setting up a gate that she cant jump over

I misunderstood, I thought you meant you wanted the bun off the stairs because of the cats ? Stairs are great for bunny exercise. I wish I had stairs, for that reason.

Rookie used to love the stairs at my parents house. It was closed carpeted stairs so he could run free at any speeds. At home at the condo I used to have a puppy gate as that was open stairs and I didn’t want him to risk it.
Sprocket has not yet tried stairs and i hope it stays that way for the next 2 to 3 weeks. We are both at my parents now till we get the new house where he can do all the stairs he wants. Right now it’s blocked off as a German Shepherd eagerly awaits at the bottom of the stairs….yikes..
