An Update on my Bonded Lops – still bonded, despite separation!

I just wanted to give an update on my Holland lop pair, now almost 3 months old. For new readers, they are brother/sister, and about a week ago my male started exhibiting sexual behaviour (so young…!) and so they were separated in a NIC cube apartment, with full visual access, ability to sniff each other through the bars, lie next to each other, etc. Just no humping.

I let them out together for supervised play. If the male does any humping, they can be separated quickly. Luckily, every time they come out to play, they just do that, no humpiness. I love the fact they don’t even second glance each other when out together..they just go about playing like they were still in the same cage.

I am confident that when they are altered (only 1 testicle has descended on male) the bond will remain.

That’s great! I would advise against putting them together though, all it takes is one second to impregnate a female, even with one testicle descended.

I watch them very closely, am never more than 3 feet away, really. And he acts a certain way when he’s about to do anything to her. He nuzzles up to her trying to figure it out for himself. At any chance of that I approach them…but he hasn’t even done that.
