So, a few months back I adopted my little rescued boy, Bucky. (Well, I say ‘little’ – he’s actually rather large…) He’s an English Lop, an absolute sweetheart (he instantly took to my dogs and cats, even my very excitable Australian Shepherd puppy), and unaltered (I haven’t had him neutered because it hasn’t been a necessity yet since he has no behavioral issues and he’s my only bun for the moment, and also because I was more concerned with helping him to heal his ears and gain some weight). He’s just coming up on about a year old now, and been kept mostly separate from other rabbits for most of that time.
Now, I took in a hedgehog a few months ago, for a friend of a friend who was moving and didn’t want to take him with her (?!). Unfortunately, the hedgehog (Martin) and I have never really bonded. I work with a woman who has two boys with Netherland Dwarfs that would rather have a hedgehog, and she asked if I would be interested in basically trading. I’m considering it.
Here’s my questions: Could a bonded pair of Netherland Dwarfs (one male, one female) bond to an English Lop? Could they live together if they were? Are they as high-strung of a breed as I’ve read, or will they be okay around my other animals? (Like I said, I have an excitable Aussie pup who thinks that everything is supposed to love her – Bucky is perfectly content to let her snuggle and lick him, but how about NDs?) Is there anything you think I need to know about NDs? I do want to get Bucky a companion for when I’m not home, but would I be better off getting a single rabbit? And if so, any breed suggestions?
Thanks so much for any help I can get!
