Am I grooming him right?!

I found Maru 3 weeks ago. He was wandering on the road. I decided to adopt him. 

Took him to the vet and he seems healthy. He adapted to new environment and people well. (not afraid of people walking around him at all) He doesn’t like to be held at all. 

He grooms himself often, and I’m concerned that he may get too much hair in his tummy without any grooming. 
I started trying a few days ago… it’s like fighting a war. T__T  

He doesn’t mind getting near me but he won’t let me hold him, and he is super curious and restless.
One rare chance I finally got a hold of him and brought him onto the kitchen counter like some people suggested…he wouldn’t stay still even on the counter!
I might have to try something else, but I don’t know what. Putting him on his back is definitely out of question because he’d just wiggle like crazy to get back on his feet, and I know that’s very dangerous… 

I brushed him thoroughly with a shedding comb, but unlike the ‘how to groom your rabbit’ tutorial videos I found online, there’s barely any fur on the comb. I got very little amount of hair off of him… he seems to have very thick hair around his bottom and it’s a bit matted.
when he goes back to his little ‘relaxing spot”, he’d groom himself like crazy. Also, I can tell he didn’t like it at all…even when I gave him a piece of raisin afterwards. 

I’m not sure if I brushed hard enough…I didn’t want to hurt him, but then did I brush hard enough to even get the hair out??
how do I know if I did it right…?

What is a “shedding comb”?

Neither of mine will sit still on the floor for grooming. They have to be placed in my lap so I can contain them. Wooly has wooly hair, so grooming him would be different than your bun. Leopold has short hair that a regular comb or brush doesn’t seem to want to pick up. I would try to comb/brush him only to have fur flying off of him soon after I put him down. I found the Hair Buster comb works well because it grabs the fur.

My rabbit Mocha is just like yours! She barely sheds like most rabbits but this is what I do. I put her on a new area where she hasn’t been that is sort of small so she can’t run away. I let her get used to it and then I gently start brushing her. If she starts squirming then I gently cover her eyes and this seems to calm her down.

As for the brush, I personally use the furminator. When I first got it I wasn’t sure whether it was going to shave them bald, but it works great for getting all the loose fur out.

I like brushing my bunnies outside, so the fur doesn’t fly everywhere and so the birds can use the fur to make nests

I thought it looks similar to the one they used in the grooming tutorial.

awww….I envy you. ‘placing my bunny anywhere’ is just a big challenge. I must wait until he is willing to come near me. Putting him in my lab doesn’t do anything either. He’d just hop right out…

where can I find the hair buster comb?

Yeah, I have a comb like that and it does nothing. I bought my Hair Buster at the BB store, but I don’t think it’s currently available. Bunny Gear still carries it though, I think.

oh! so it’s possible that my bunny is just not shedding much?

hmmm…that’s the similar to putting him to kitchen counter because that’s a new area to him, but he was even more curious and even stood up on the counter periscoping O_O

and he doesn’t calm down easy…
not even when I try petting him on the head to cover his eyes. (he’d shake his head and dash away)

I guess I’ll just try to work out something…
