My little boy Stewie is a trouble maker. I always give him time to run around, play and explore when I get home from work and then again in the bedroom before I go to sleep, then he goes in a pen at night. No matter how many toys and exercise I give him he always seems to be wreaking havoc. I know bunnies are active pets in need of a lot of care, I was wondering if anyone has any tips on how to get him to maybe be more calm at night as his pen is in my room and it’s difficult to sleep when he is digging up the floor and biting the bars. He gets a couple hours play time out side of the pen when I get home and also about an hour before bed, I also provide him with plenty of Bordem busters so I’m not sure what else to do.

        Thanks in advance,

        Alex & Stewie

Stewie doesn’t understand why he is being confined at night since he knows that there’s more space outside. A lot of bunnies are active when we are sleeping, and since he can see but can’t explore outside the pen, it’s frustrating for him. Bunnies don’t really understand “playtime”, for them it doesn’t make sense.

Do you have any rooms where you can let him out to roam at night?

Is Stewie neutered? If he isn’t, having him neutered may have a calming effect on him.

How large is the pen that he is confined to most of the day and during the night? Rabbits do need adequate room in their pens. Maybe you could get something larger, or add to the pen that you have.

If he is getting only 3 hours a day outside of his pen, that means he is penned up for 21 hours each day. A rabbit really needs more out of cage/pen time than 3 hours each day.

My rabbits don’t get really going until 10, 11 o clock at night, when it’s nice and cool. And if I’m up during those hours, I’m expected to join in the rabbit games, there’s no sitting and watching TV! They’ll both come over and tug at my socks, dig at my feet, and periscope at me until I get down on the floor for binkies, circles and chaseies. Then, and only then will they both flop down, Clover glued to my side, and Dawn nearby but not touching, and settle down.

But mine have free run of the living room and kitchen, so they have plenty to do when I finally go to bed.
