        Hello All,

I recently bought hay from a local farm. The timothy hay was more irritating for me, as I noticed I was itchier than usual when handling it and putting it into their hay manager.

Pudge now has red, inflamed, watery eyes. Even the insides of her ears look red. Her paws are crusty from rubbing her eyes and she has crustiness all over her face. This began only 24 hours after feeding her the new hay.

I’ve completely cleaned out her cage and have offered Oxbow hay instead.

Has anyone else experienced this? How did you help your rabbit?

Since you’ve changed the hay, I would suggest perhaps wiping her down with a damp cloth, just to try and wipe away the residual dust that may be on her fur. You could also rinse her eyes out with a saline solution to clear them of the irritation.

My other thought with the crustiness is perhaps there were mites in the hay?

I hope it clears up quickly

            Thanks, Azerane!
I’ve taken your advice and washed Pudge. It seems to only be one eye that’s affected. I’ll keep an eye out for mites.

Did you acutally wash him in water? Or just wipe him down?

              How is he today?
