hey everyone, My wife and I got a brand new bunny, named Dutch. He is a almost 3 month old Holland Lop. the gal we got Dutch from said He was albino and had Rue eye gene and would scan. I did some research and all the Albino rabbits Ive seen are pure white with red or pink eyes. Dutch is white but with dark coloring and dark eyes. does anyone have any different information on that, could he be albino? i would post pictures but it says that file type isnt allowed. so can anyone help with me that as well? thanks!

Dutch may carry the albino gene but is not a pure albino, which is why he has other colourings and dark eyes. If I’m not mistaken, a pure albino will always only have purely white fur and red eyes due to the lack of pigmentation.

For the picture problem, make sure it’s in .jpg format and less than 300kb in size.

It’s not possible for him to be albino. It’s dominant. So definitely not an albino if he has dark eyes and coloring in his fur. From the picture, he looks to be broken or shaded. But with such a tiny picture, it’s hard to tell which.

OK, here’s a bigger picture, from this you can see that his ears are black and he has black around his nose.

He looks like a sable point possibly? I looked it up and the coloring is “REW-based”. When I said albino was dominant, I probably shouldn’t have used the word dominant. The gene is actually recessive from a genetics standpoint. But the REW gene does “dominant” all of the other genes when it comes to expression. It blocks the expression of all the other color genes (A,B,D, etc.) so no matter what is under there, the rabbit will always be white with ruby eyes. It does appear as though a single copy of c does influence some colorings. So maybe that’s what the breeder meant? Anyway, I thought scanning was attributed to ruby eyes. If you aren’t seeing him do it, then I suppose I wouldn’t worry about it.

He looks like a sable point or a pointed white.
