I’ve had two similar holy cow moments lately:
One was when I was walking Jenna one afternoon and as I turned left out our driveway, badaboom! There’s our neighbors’ PIT BULL walking around loose. He caught sight of us immediately and starts barking at us (from out in the street, mind you) and I had to scoop up Jenna as he backed me down my own driveway! The neighbor’s kids began calling him back, but he was still barking at us until we got halfway back down the drive and he’d turned back to his house…THEN Jenna starts growling and barking. Thanks, girl. >.<
The next is that now we have two other pit bulls that seem to be running loose in the neighborhood and mostly in our yard, getting into our garbage.
So much for me taking the buns outdoors anytime soon. One dog is a female, either who has recently given birth or will be soon by the look of her teats, and the other may be a male, they travel together and always leave the yard in the same direction. I don’t know if they are wild, one does have a blue collar. Can’t get close enough to them to get a look and honestly-with the type of dog they are-I don’t want to.
I can appreciate the difficulty in keeping a dog in it’s own yard as much as the next person, but these dogs have NO supervision. No one seems to give a rat’s behind to keep their animals restrained. I do wish Shadow were still here, they wouldn’t dare to set foot on our property with him around.
I’m currently armed with bear spray whenever I go outside. That I have to do that in my own yard is ridiculous. Wild creatures like foxes, bears or even raccoons are most likely to leave you alone if you cross paths…but formerly domesticated or stray animals that have been abandoned are completely unpredictable and highly dangerous. Our animal control is also very lax about addressing these situations.
Guess the outdoors will have to come inside for the buns until the problem is solved.
