I’ve been taking the girls into a neutral zone for some one on one time.  It’s been going well.  No fighting whatsoever.  Nibbles just kind of sits there (she’s frightened) but Maddie hops around like crazy.  If she could giggle I’m sure she would!  After she’s done a few laps around the room, she’ll come over to Nibbles and start grooming her.  The problem is, she only grooms Nibbles’ eyes.  At times, Nibbles will jerk away, but then she’ll go back for more.  Last night, after the session, Nibbles one eye (the outter area) was a bit red.  I don’t want to discourage grooming, but on the other hand I don’t want Nibbles to get sore eyes.  But, you’d think that if it hurt then Nibbles wouldn’t let it continue.  Right?

I would let it go – Hannah and Otto have been bonded for 6 months and she only grooms his eyes and only aggressively. He totally puts up with it. Haha. If Nibbles doesn’t like it she’ll do something about it, otherwise she’ll let it continue. Some bunnies just don’t understand how to groom (Hannah is one of them) so any grooming is a good sign, even if it’s awkward and uncomfortable looking.

If the eye is red from this you should discourage her. She will learn to get gentler but until then push her head down when she gets too carried away on the eye. ~
