        Hey everyone!
My little girl Ellie (3 year old Netherland dwarf) has been having a rough go and I really need some advice. On August 2nd, we rushed Ellie in for emergency surgery after a random fight happened between her and her bonded pair. The vet thinks that the other rabbits nail or teeth got caught, and it ripped a large 4inch portion of her belly open. She had a 2 hour surgery. It was the worst two hours of my life.
Anyway, she had internal dissolvable stitches and external glue. It took about 3 days for her to return to her normal loving self.
The bunnies are separated now, obviously, but are still in the same bedroom separated by a fence so they can see eachother.
Flash forward to the past two days. I noticed Ellie will hardly touch her favourite vegetables. She still goes crazy when I bring my breakfast upstairs (toast) and tries to eat it so I know she has appetite. I’ve seen her eat her pellets and she bites at the lettuce. I haven’t seen her touch her hay. The reason I’m writing is because, if that wasn’t strange enough, her pee smells terrible!!!!! I’m talking like, dead skunk terrible. And she’s peeing a lot more than usual. She’s still drinking and running around and flopping, so I don’t think she’s in pain but something definitely changed. She also has had loud gas sounds in her belly the past two days. Yesterday I massaged her and that made it totally stop, but today massage didn’t work so I gave her some baby gas medicine.
You have to understand that I have spent $975 for her in the past two weeks at the vet so I am trying to avoid going back as much as I can. Her stitches look totally normal and healed up nice and the vet said everything looked good at her checkup last week. She doesn’t seem to be in pain. She’s eating some and drinking, but she’s still not herself you know?
Suggestions? What could this be? What do I do?

The pee smell could be coming from any meds she was on after her surgery. Medications can cause really bad smelling poos and pees in bunnies, even days after she stopped getting the medication.

On medications, they can also slow a rabbits gut so they eat less. Keep trying to urge her to eat. You can try to force feed her critical care mixed with plain pumpkin once or twice a day. You have to watch her stomach and poops, though. If her stomach bloats and/or she stops pooping, she needs to see a vet asap. Its possible that she has a blockage and she will need to see a vet for that. But, if her stomach isnt bloated and her poops look ok, keep encouraging food and try some critical care over the next few days.
