My rabbit got her spay surgery yesterday and the only thing I’ve been able to get her to eat are red peppers. But I think she ate too much and now her poop is coming out in big lumps and she has normal sized poops all stick around her private areas. I’ve been trying to get them off but she doesn’t like it at all and keeps trying to get away and she is now laying in her litter box knowing I’m going to pick at her butt if she gets up. Do I leave it and not stress her out until she’s more healed or do I try and get it out? She has not allowed me to look good enough at her butt to know if it’s blocking anything or not. What do I do??? And the vet that I took her to is closed which doesn’t help the situation.

Peppers shouldnt be fed to rabbits, as your seeing by her gut problems and poop problems. Theyre not healthy for bunnies and you really need to stop.

If she wont let you clean the poop off of her, you should look for another vet nearby or an emergency vet. The poop can dry and cause a block which is not good for her. Being so close to her wound can cause an infection, too. Best to have that taken care of ASAP to ensure her safety For her food, she needs critical care. Can you also try pellet mash?

I read that bell peppers were safe for rabbits and I’d rather feed her something than nothing. But I took the peppers out of her bowl and she started eating normally again and her poops are back to normal and I was able to get the remaining pieces off her butt while she was laying down.

You are right, Madison. Green and Red Bell Peppers are on House Rabbit Society’s safe veg list. I would just feed them sparingly due to hearing quite a few people mention they gave their buns gas.

Glad she’s eating and pooping now. ((((Continued Recovery Vibes)))))
