I adopted Winston, from my sister who only fed him pellets, and a type with LOTS of junk in it. When I adopted him my vet said switch him to another type, slowly, that had less junk, but still some, because he was probably addicted to it now.
We’ll we did months ago, got him neutered, got him into heavily eating hay. Lately he has been sick for almost 2 whole months and I would give him a big bowl (for him) of fresh strawberries and bananas twice a day to get his meds into him, and the last month, once a day, to get a different type of med into him. He usually binkies and is happy and dances for this.
I take Winston in fairly regularly for my vet to check for bloating, and make sure he is fine & Before I got him, my sister would give him a half strawberry and about 1/2 an inch of banana every day. Anyways.
I had to re hand train him, to enjoy being pet and loved by random hands, BUT he was never an aggressive rabbit.
Lately though, his usual dance around his food bag and dipping his face in to steal a corn or dried banana is not as fun as it has been. He is now grunting, almost honking, and lunging for my hand which holds the food.
The things that have changed since I got him months ago are types of food, I feed him way less pellets. I feed him multiple times a day because he devours it, I feed him in two separate bowls, putting food in one during the day, and the other at night.
Within the last two weeks the only thing that’s changed is he has less of a food schedule, and gets fed more often, because he’s been completely emptying his pellet bowls, as opposed to when he used to just eat the corn and dried fruit and leave the pellets for a whole day.
I don’t know what to do about his aggression. He let’s me pet him while he eats and I’ve started to do that
