Accidentally kicked her in the nose, now red with a bit of blood.

Today when I was trying to feed my year old rabbit, I accidentally kicked her in the face, right in her nose. I didn’t realize that she was standing right behind me, and didn’t even see her until it was too late. Obviously I feel terrible about what happened, and when I immediately looked at her face after it happened she looked absolutely fine.

A few hours later I was playing with her and noticed that the little pink part of her nose, directly below her nostrils was looking red, with a very, very small spot of blood on it. Behavior wise, she’s acting completely normal. She’s eating, drinking, and playing like her usual self. She also seems to be breathing fine too. I even open up her mouth a bit which looks totally fine as well. I honestly don’t think that I bumped into her very hard, so is this something I can just chalk up as a superficial injury and just make sure it heals up on its own? I did not think this was something serious enough to need to make an emergency appointment at the vet to look at today, but obviously seeing that small spot of blood made me worry.

Don’t be too hard on yourself – sometimes these things happen! Rabbits have a habit of getting under and around people’s feet . I would just keep an eye on it for now. Though I’ve no experience with this so you might want to wait for someone else’s input. But yeah, don’t beat yourself up!

Don’t worry about it. Rabbits do have an ability to heal, though most people tend to downplay it quite a lot. If she’s still happy, breathing, eating, drinking and pooping fine then it’s no problem. If it starts bleeding any more, or if she’s starting to have any trouble then you probably should contact a vet. I’m not sure an emergency appointment is necessary.

I would assume that if she can breathe and walk alright, she is ok Of course, if it gets worse or starts to swell, head to the vet.

Wick has had at least three occurrences of being kicked into a wall a couple feet away due to the vinyl floors and his spazz. He’s been fine and we’ve both learned… Haha. Monitor and consult vet if needed!

Thank you all! I’m glad to see I’m not the only clumsy one. Bunnies can be so sneaky sometimes. I’m happy to report that her nose is looking much better today, so I think she will be just fine.

My big boy snuck up on me today and I almost tripped on him! They can be sneaky, for sure.
