The bb’s that Cadbury passes overnight are significantly smaller than those she passes during the day.  Is this normal?  I’m pretty sure it’s normal for her, since she’s been doing it for the 9 months I’ve had her and is in great health.  I’m just curious if anyone else’s bun does the same thing.  Thanks!

Are you certain they aren’t cecotropes? Does she have plenty of hay to munch on overnight? I admit my two are such hay mooches they have lots of big round poop 24/7.

Our bunnies seem to have a pretty wide size distribution as far as droppings go, and it does seem to change somewhat with time. I’m not sure if the size is necessarily anything to worry about, as long as there are plenty of them and there’s not too many that are strung together. The latter would be indicative of fur or other stuff in the gastrointestinal tract that could cause blockages and GI statis, which is very bad.

it sounds like it may be cecotropes – do they look a bit like cluster of grapes?

Nope, definitely not cecotropes. They aren’t strung together, either. She has plenty of hay to munch on 24/7. I make sure to give her extra at night around 11pm since I won’t check on her again until morning.

It’s odd – the amount and consistency is the same, they are just really tiny!

by any chance… are they brittle?  the day or 2 after baby’s surgery i was feeding her celery & a bit of blueberries… basically anything with a good water content to keep her hydrated.  then i noticed teeny weeny poops that sounded brittle when i swept them up.  i realized that the were actually cecal poops that had broken up & dryed out, and were prolly due to the extra berries i was feeding her.  they weren’t clumped together at all so i didnt realize what they were until i saw her pass a clump of cecals onto the floor, turn around & sniff them, and see them separate (they’d stick to her individually & then transfer to another spot on the floor.)

another thing i’ve noticed that affect baby’s poop sizes… just this week she got gas very mildly … her behaviour was totally normal but i noticed when i felt her tummy.  it was so subtle that i questioned if something was actually wrong.  the next day i noticed her tummy was back to it’s normal doughy state and saw some smaller not quite round poops.  i’m not sure what caused her gassy tummy since her diet is consistant & the recommended balance.  the only i can figure is hair since she’s shedding a bit now so i’m going to find some papaya tablets & try to comb her more often.

I have also been wondering about different sizes.

I’m seeing lots of sizes of poops from Kay & Winston. From the size of a pencil eraser to the size of my first thumb joint, and everything in between.

I just saw my first cecotrope yesterday morning. I thought it looked like a blackberry.

                      They don’t seem brittle.

I guess this is just what is normal for her, since she’s been this way for months. Will we ever fully understand bunnies?!?

good grief… they sure are complex!  i don’t know if we’ll ever understand them but it sure is interesting to try

“The Mystery of Poop” is a pretty good read: http://www.bio.miami.edu/hare/poop.html by none other than Dana Krempels!

Isn’t a female hero a heroine?  Anyway, mine too!

You’re right, Scarlet-Rose.  I just had the image in my head of those bugs bunny cartoons where bugs is dressed as a woman and says “My Hero” to distract Elmer Fudd.
