A question about carriers…

My SO and I are collecting the various things we’re going to need for when we get a second bunny and I’m a little confuzzled regarding carriers We’re thinking about getting a french lop and I was wondering if this would be a good size?

Gernerally it seems like a good carrier, it addresses the issue of weight which was something I was worrying about , but I have no idea of the dimentions are right… I can’t convert numbers into a mental image and I can’t seem to find any kind of measuring implement (which is absurd, because I have three tape measures here somewhere ) so I have no clue if it’s too small, too big, just right… It otherwise seems like a good carrier, the way it opens means it would be easier to get bunny in and out with minimal fuss than the one we have for Puck (which just has a door at the front – great for getting him in at home, a nightmare for getting him out at the vets) it seems sturdy enough….

 

If it’s the right size, awesome. If it’s not, what sort of dimensions should I be looking for?

Hmmmm Well, I think that’s about what I have for my rabbit, who is 12 pounds. I know a french lop would get bigger. He has plenty of room for trips to the vet. Are you just talking about having a carrier for car rides?? If so, and noone else has any ideas, I have a friend who breeds those and travels to shows and I could ask her if you’d like. But let’s see if someone w/ a giant breed responds (my giant isn’t so giant)

I’ve heard they make AMAZING pets. You could also PM a member of this forum called Moccasin. I’m pretty sure hers is a French and she seems like a very nice person, though she hasn’t been on in quite awhile. I think Moccasin keeps her busy ha ha

Yeah, it’s just for trips to and from the vets basically. And I know we’re not far from the vet, but I still don’t want the not-so-little guy feeling cramped lol If you could ask your friend, that would be awesome – the last time I spoke to the lady we’re going to, she said that she thought the one we’re looking at will be the smaller end of normal for a frenchy, so I don’t know if that makes much of a difference?

Here ya go. This is what the expert says:

I did the math on the carrier and it would be 20 inches long by about 13 inches wide and tall and that should be just fine for carrying a French Lop around. Rabbits like rather tight spaces you know, especially when they are in unfamiliar territory. They feel they are in a burrow that way. Tell her it should work just fine for transport and she should put a goodly amt of hay in it when she is taking the bunny back and forth. That will give him something to do. Hopefully she won’t have to be taking him to the vet very often!!! It will also be good for her to put him in it when she is cleaning and sanitizing his regular cage. Rabbits can get upset and stressed when you are cleaning their environment so it is best to have them out of the way until you are done.
