Meet Optimus Prime!!!! My Nosy Be chameleon!
He’s been filling my void since I lost Bagheera. Sorry I haven’t made a thread for him in the rainbow area but I just don’t want to think about it too much really. It makes me so sad.
My grandfather gave all his grandkids a really nice gift of money so I decided to treat myself with this guy, he was 350$
!!!! He’s been eating out of my hand though and it’s been really neat. He’s kinda like a salt water tank, I don’t mess with him much, only to put him in his free range area that I made for him. Oh…and when he eyes Bumblez and Indy its SO funny!!! One eye at me, the other on the buns!
walking on my curtain rod…where I didn’t want him to go….
it’s not that slippery mom I swear!!!!
Wow, I didn’t know chameleons were sold as pets. I’ve seen iguanas and other lizards like anoles…my son had one that disappeared for a week and I finally found him hanging onto the curtain cord. After which he promptly jumped into my hair and scared me silly. >_<
I posted in your other thread, but I’m so sorry about Bagheera. ;_;
He’s cute!
So, how many pets do you have?
Are you sure he’s not a Smurf :~) He’s very cool looking.
Wow I love his colors very beautiful!
Very very cool!! How do you get him into his free range area? Does he let you pick him up?
He’s really pretty!
When you’re ready to move someday, I hear there’s a place at the local zoo. You and the menagerie would feel right at home.
(Your grandfather called to say he was visiting and spotted a small tiger cub under your bed.)
Wow cool! I’ve seen those at the pet store but they are always babies, not such a big one!
Beautiful!
I always wanted one. Their eyes freak my mom out though so she never let me get one, and their illegal here.
hilarious he keeps one eye on the buns the other on you. Their eyes and how they move are so cool. He is very pretty.
Blends in with the foliage too. I like that turquoise color he was in some of the pics.
He’s so cool! I’ve always loved critters like that. I couldn’t ever have one myself because I have this thing about any of the live food you feed most amphibians and reptiles, all the food choices just freak me out. So we only have vegan bunnies and a tortoise, lol.
Whoa, neat! You’re going to have to start a series of pictures called “disapproving chameleon”, haha.
Wow I never knew there were other reptile geeks on here too! I am more of a gecko person myself. Recently lost my Tokay to old age, and he was also a “look but do not touch” pet. Mostly because he would take your knuckles off if you messed with him. I am not too much of a chammy person, but I do find them gorgeous! Last time I was in the pet store buying my crickets, there was a baby veiled chammy in the front of the store giving me the stare down. He was rocking back and forth and even gaped at me. Little guy was like the size of my thumb. It was too cute.
Oh and Mimz, you can get just about any type of lizard in the reptile trade, ranging from green anole to nile monitor. Somebody somewhere owns one. I wish I could find the video of the tegu breeder guy who is trying to feed his lizards, but they are more interested in climbing all over him. It was so cute. Same goes for snakes. You can find just about any type of snake in the trade if you look. I really want a green tree python some day, Talk about $$$.
Normally breeders and stores sell babies, but this guy was a breeder chameleon and they gave him back. There was a baby veiled at the store, but holy moly he was a MEAN little guy!!! He was only 60$ …but when I held him he puffed up and starting hissing, which I didn’t know they did and it scared me to death. I was like “get him off get him off!!!” Panthers are more laid back, but of course they are 300$. Veileds are less expensive because they lay more eggs in clutches, making them easier to get and they only come in one color, green/yellow, making the panther chameleons more desirable because they come in bright reds, yellows, blues, oranges, greens, spotted and stripes. This one kind is almost pink!
So I figured to get the nicer one that didn’t puff up or gape at me. He even pooped on me when I held him. I do handle him to get him into his free range, he doesn’t seem to mind it too much but that’s all. He just wants to go up to my head if he is on my hand.
@pam …lol so funny!!!!
@lpt personally I have 5 bunnies, my 80 gallon fishtank, my chameleon and 2 cats
@mimz A lot of pet stores won’t sell chameleons because of their need for humidity (you have to hand spray them or buy a misting system), and if they do they sell veiled chameleons which are from Yemen so they don’t need the humididy since it’s a desert.
@joyful ooo green tree pythons are awesome!!! I heard they are super mean though
Is that true? Probably just for some I would imagine.
A video of him eating out of my brother’s hand. It takes him 1 minute to actually eat it if you wanna skip forward. All I am saying is “don’t move!”
That is such a cool video. I love his eyeball and feet.
Some green tree python locales are meaner then others. I think there are like 5 or 6 of them. The cheapest GTB are the Biaks which tend to be the most common in the trade, cheapest, and also are the ones with the biting reputation. The cheapest I have seen a Biak for is about $200, where some of the “fancy” varieties and color morphs can cost you over $3,000. Right now I will just stick with my ball python Millie as my only snake. I had really bad luck with my second snake and she died suddenly at a really young age. Possibly a congenital defect. That is how I ended up with Momo, I was looking for a second snake once I was ready to move on and got her instead.
Ah found the Tegu video. I love this one!
Wowwww!!! He is really pretty! He’s like my favorite color.
wow you guys are brave. and by that I mean owning snakes
I’m like hugely afraid of them-most of it irrational. like I see a gardner snake and scream so high that I don’t even realize its me and get close to passing out. Also I’ve been having nightmares about a snake killing my Bun Franklin.
But Lintini, your chameleon is cool. Have you seen it change colors?
Reptiles really look cool but they freak me out when I touch them, they feel weird!!!
Aww your Cham is so beautiful! I always wanted one but they look so delicate. That Tegu video is so sweet! I wish my beardie was as affectionate as the Tegus in that video. He just puffs and black beards at me unless I have food or give him a bath.
Reptiles are very misunderstood. And it takes a certain type to enjoy them. They are not usually a pet you get out to play with. Mostly for watching. To me it is the closest feeling of bringing nature into my house. LOL last night I had my crested gecko out. She jumped from my hand and landed on my glasses. Well her back half did, her front half was in my hair and it took some work to free my hair from her little sticky toe pads. LOL that is something that has always freaked out people at my house. Feeling a geckos toe pads. They are so neat!
well you certainly have given him a wonderful home. he is beautiful
Wow! He’s beautiful! Lizards seem so sagacious and contemplative. I love the way they observe what’s going on around them and act so cool when they decide to do anything. I can just imagine Optimus watching you with one eye and the bunnies with the other. Lol. He looks cute and goofy walking on that curtain rod!
Is he your first reptile?
Chameleons are so pretty. I heard they are hard to take care of though. Do you have to do anything special for yours?
Thanks everyone!
Silly Sungura I grew up with a 5 foot long Iguana named Spike, and I’ve had a trio of leopard geckos, anoles and some house geckos as well. This is my first Chameleon.
The special things I have to do for him would be keeping the humidity in his cage up, with spraying warm water with a spray bottle. I could invest in a misting system if I had a full time job and/or was away more or had several cages to mist instead of just one. Also, they need a dripper to drink water from. They don’t drink standing water so they can drink the mist off the leaves or from the dripper that you buy, which is basically a gallon jug with a plastic doohicky that you rotate righty tight, left loosey to get the water started …ohhh like a check valve! And some aquarium tubing into the cage and he comes up and drinks from it. I actually have a video of him drinking on my facebook, ill try to get it over here. It’s pretty neat. He does need a special UVB bulb which is like sunlight. So his body can metabolize the D3 and calcium, and he has a basking light as well.
I’m already cooking up a storm to build and outdoor sunning cage for him when it warms up again in the spring
People just use screen enclosures for them so it’s not going to cost and arm and a leg!
Congrats on your new pet, Lindsey! He looks so blase! with those half shut eyes! I like him!
That was cool. HE just shot that tongue out and grabbed his food. Neat.
