A bunch of random questions

 Ok, so my French Lop Marty is about 3-4 months old now, I’ve had him for about 1 month.  He is doing some crazy $*&!, so I figured I’d ask some questions.

He keeps flipping everything in his cage upside down.  He has a house (a bankers box with a hole cut in it), a litter box, a food bowl, and a water bowl, and he keeps flipping everything upside down in the middle of the night and making a huge mess.  He also has a tendency to jump into my garbage cans and flip them over as well.

He also picks and chooses his times when he is willing to be friendly and when he just wants to piss on everything.  Two days in a row I managed to pick him up and pet him on my bed for about 20 minutes, but the other day he just freaked out and pissed all over the bed (and my arm) :s

He has a good amount of freedom, the only time I lock him in his cage is at night, and he has free roam of my basement during the day.

He also has this weird “tick” where occasionally he will just fling himself onto his side and roll his eyes up in his head, almost like he’s fainting for a couple seconds, then he jumps back up and hops off.

Also, how much is enough greens to be feeding him daily?  I feed him generally about two handfuls of parsley/kale/dark leaf greens, and he happily eats all of them.

He also tends to hide under the bed all day and only comes out when I bring out the treat bag.

 

Any comments or suggestions?

It sounds like the terrible 2’s.
when he flings himself onto the floor, it sounds like he’s doing a bunny flop. Nothing to worry about… He’s just happy.
As for his other behavior… It sounds like its time to be neutered.
When my bunny hit puberty it was like night and day. He was all of the sudden a naughty bunny, and seemed angry. He was constantly “testing” me, and doing naughty things just to get a reaction out of me. I knew this, because he would wait for a reaction, and then do a little binky, and run off to find some other trouble to get into.
Once you know this… You just have to watch their behavior to figure it out. Then it seems a bit funny, because they are like little kids.
The peeing is marking his territory. Until he’s fixed you’ll just have to keep him off certain things.
If he’s hiding under the bed… I assume he’s just chill’in out, and sleeping.

As for how much greens… I’m not a good one to answer that question.

This seems to be the best info.

I personally give unlimited pellets and hay. Greens I give probably 2 cups morning/evening, and some extra noms during the day.

I’m not the best person here to give advice on any of this, but this is my experience.

Agreed LBJ, sounds like he is feeling like a big boy and acting like he owns the place. Hence the flops, which means he feels very comfortable and confident…
If you are concerned and think the flops aren’t right or something is amiss a trip to the vet for a check up is always a good idea.

Bunnies do tend to nap all day to and only get really active in the morning or evening. This would be consistent with the napping under the bed..

Sounds like a typical teenage bunny! Neutering will help.
