        Hey guys,
As you know Patches has been in stasis for a month now. We’ve done X-rays and his stomach looks big but he still has gut sounds. We’ve done the fluids, gas drops, metacam(stopped), cesepride and we just added Metoclopramide yesterday. We know that his tummy isn’t emptying what he is eating. He’s been crazy for food the last 3 days and then this morning he is all balled up in pain. I’m thinking it’s from the Metoclopramide as it can cause spasms to get the upper gut moving. He’s pooped some of his regular sized poops but only a couple of times a day. I’ve been on pens and needles the past month and of course I started summer classes so it makes me more stressed. And then this morning there were no poops. I just want to cry because I don’t know what else to do. My poor baby is going through this and I don’t know when we should just stop and if he needs to be put down to do it. He was acting all normal yesterday behavior wise until this morning with the added med.

Has anyone else been through this? It seems never ending. I just don’t get why his stomach won’t empty well even though he has gut sounds. ?

A month! That sounds very stressful, you poor things. Has he been eating by himself?

Has he been checked for underlying issues that cause stasis, for example tooth pain?

Bombur is almost a year and a half, and he’s been through stasis a lot already. I know it’s a long shot, and the test is expensive, but it could be worth checking in to see if he could have EC. Bombur was only diagnosed with it due to incontinence, but my vet suspects that all of his stasis episodes have been caused by EC flare ups. He’s been on quite a few rounds of Oxibendazole for it, and he hasn’t had any GI issues since. I still monitor his diet super closely just to be extra sure, but it has gotten better. Hope Patches gets better

Well he was on chlorohenocol which killed all his good bacteria which started the stasis so he’s on prebiotics to get it growing again and we stopped that antibiotic for his URI. That is a good idea. I might ask the vet about that test. I keep calling her so much I feel so bad but I’m such a worried bun mom

He would eat by himself the last couple of days but some poops and now he won’t eat from the pain of the Metoclopramide

Our member Redbunbun, who had a megacolon bunny, always stressed the importance of giving Metacam together with metclopramide, because metclopramide can cause painful spasms. Metacam can be rather hard on the stomach lining, so that must be taken into consideration.

ETA: I re-read your previous thread, you had to stop the Metacam. You don’t happen to remember the strength of the Metacam and what dose he was on? It’s been found that rabbits tolerate rather a lot higher doses than cats and dogs, and there are still vets that are unaware of this.

If his gut microbiota was profoundly affected by the chloramphenicol, it could take more than a month to reestablish a sound gut microflora.

It is weird that there are gut sounds even though his gut is sluggish.

                      Thank you guys so much!

Bam-So I talked to my older vet today and she said to take him off the metaclopromide and put him on metacam( was 1.4 now 1ml for 1.5mg/ml I’m pretty sure) and on Buprenorphine (which I think I may have let have too much exposure to the light in my kitchen, so if it doesn’t work tomorrow I will call for a refill) and to stay on cecapride. Its crazy how much noise his gut has but his tummy isn’t moving so we think he just go so dehydrated (the vet previously said to stop sub q) so his food got all dried up and wouldn’t move out and of course the gas build up so I gave him a lot of fluids so hopefully the food can moisten back up and she said I should try and exercise him (the previous vet said to be hands off) and hopefully in the morning he will be active.

I know it can take a while for his flora to get back to normal (which is gonna be a while because of that med), I mean at least his GI hasn’t shut down! We just have to figure out why his tummy isn’t pushing the food out, so if he doesn’t get better by the afternoon, then she said to bring him in tomorrow

I’ve dealt with stasis on three occasions but recovery was always fairly quick. I have no advice to offer, I just wanted to say I’m really sorry your baby is going through all of this I hope you’re able to find an underlying cause. Have you considered seeking a second opinion? A different vet = a different perspective?

sarah- yes I have and they say to keep doing the same thing but I going to talk to a different doctor tomorrow and see what they say.

He had another round of X-rays and a ultrasound and see that his stomach and small intestines are moving but not as much as they should and we don’t know what else to do so he is staying there over night.

Does anyone know why a tummy and small intestine wouldn’t move much but the large intestine is moving? Prokinetics aren’t helping it.

Update- patch went to the vet yesterday and stayed there over night. He has developed a fever was 103 now 105 and they think he has gone septic from the clostridium he had and now has again. The official blood results will be back later today. If he is septic then I think I will put him to sleep. If he isn’t, I just don’t know how much more treatment can be done because he is suffering right now. I’m such a complete mess over here and I’m praying and trying to have hope but I just don’t know

                                Azerane,
Thank you. I am hoping he will recover. We think he’s made it through the worst part and if he stabilizes he should make it. I should receive a call soon from the vet and see how he is doing.

So Patch is back home finally after a week. He is doing great, eating and pooping but he didn’t poop or eat this much this morning so I’m hoping he’s still getting used to coming home. But now Penelope has stasis and we have no idea.
