As I was cleaning Kurotta’s cage today, I noticed these poops in the tray below his cage. Sometimes I find uneaten cecals as Kurotta didn’t manage to catch (eat) them before they fell through the cage flooring, but this is the first time I’ve seen these – I’m not sure if it’s because they have been soaked in his pee hence the mushiness, or it’s something to be concerned about. All his other poops look fine.

It looks pretty gross lol but here it is:

It looks like they’ve been soaked in pee.

You differentiate between true diarrhea and sticky poop by whether there are round poop as well as smeary/runny poop. If there are round poops as well, it’s not a vet emergency. I forget how old Kurotta is. If he’s young, extra cecals are to be considered normal. A young bun doesn’t yet have a fully mature/diversified gut microbiota. If he’s an adult, extra cecals – if there are plenty of them – can mean the diet needs some tweaking.

He is 2 days shy of being 8 months old.

Yup most of the poops are still round. Are these cecals though? I thought they are supposed to be shaped like poops clumped together.

Those look like normal fecal pellets to me. The below page shows a few pictures of different sorts of rabbit poops, including cecals.

They look pretty normal to me, although some are on the smaller side. Maybe try to up his hay intake and/or groom him every day if he’s shedding might help.

He doesn’t seem to be shedding. But I’ll try to reduce his pellets for a bit and see if that helps
