Hello everybody, I’m new here but I have been lurking and getting some brilliant advise since getting my bunny two weeks ago.
Our bunny bibi is 9 weeks old, she settled in very well, is super confident and has very quickly gotten used to household noises and the humans she shares her living space with! She has a spacious pen, lots of hideaways and toys and a bridge meaning that she can come and go as she pleases (other than over night and when we are at work)
Today we have been a little bit worried as she isn’t being herself. Usually she will come out multiple times during the day, binky all over the place and generally be all over everything. She isn’t keen on us picking her up but will tolerate a stroke here and there. She eats a rack full of alfalfa hay, nibbles at her bedding of Timothy hay and enjoys her pellets at dinner time. After dinner she has a good run around the house and we usually have to tempt her back in at bedtime.
Today she has hardly been out of her pen, inside she has a little house that she literally never goes into – she usually prefers lying on top of it – but today she has been inside it most of the day. She has been laying down, yawning, stretching and seeming a little depressed. I picked her up at one point when she was laying on her side (she would usually never let me do this) and I cuddled her for 5 minutes, again this is very out of character, she just let me do whatever I wanted.
At dinner time she has eaten a little, but noticeably her hay hasn’t gone down all day (usually it’s almost empty by night) She has been drinking, but not quite as often as usual. I noticed her bottom may be a little dirty when she hopped away earlier, could this have anything to do with her acting differently? She’s just generally very quiet and aloof today, and both myself and my boyfriend feel that something is wrong.
One thing that did happen that was out of the norm was a friend bought his dog over very breifly yesterday (literally for 2 minutes) it scared her and she ran away. Could she be acting differently because of it? We also fed her two rasberries which she loved, could this have effected her?
Any advise would be appreciated. I’m thinking of taking her to the vet tomorrow but think this will be stressful for her so I’m unsure.
