My bunny Benjamin(which a lot of you may know) has had 4-5 vet visits for he urine/genital problem, and still no one has told me what it might be. This might be a very rare thing seen in bunnies, basically, his genitals swell up causing his to urineate on himself, which then causes the skin around his legs to burn/blister. He has had many extras and perscriptions, and we give him baths every now and then. If anyone has had something like this happen to their bunny please tell me what it is or how to cure it. Remind you this has been going for little under a year, and I’m afraid to say I’m losing hope…

          What tests has he had?

Seconding LBJ10, it would be useful to know what tests and medications he’s had.
One of my old bunnies started drinking a lot more and peeing on himself, and he had a kidney infection caused by EC. I wonder if his genitals being swelled are an effect rather than a cause.

What country do you live in, and is your vet a rabbit specialist?

I can’t exaxtly tell you because all our vet says every time is he can’t control his urine. And the medication he was give was this watery pink liquid(he has had 3 bottles of this) I’m sorry I can’t give you more information than this. But we are getting him another appointment at another vet soon, and I’ll make sure to ask what kind of tests he is getting.

I think getting another opinion from a different vet is a good course of action. It’s really great that you’re trying to solve this problem.

It’s not a good sign that your original vet doesn’t bother to explain to you what medicine they’re giving and why – it’s up to them to make sure you know what they’re doing and why, and a good vet should take the time to answer your questions and explain why they’re doing what they’re doing.

I have no idea what the pink fluid could be i’m afraid. If you have any bottles left, could you check the labels? The new vet will probably want to know what you’ve already tried too.

Were you given any cream or anything to soothe his leg skin? Is it still sore looking?

I agree with S&L it sounds like it could be EC. Bombur is actually getting tested for it on Saturday because he’s been having the same issues. Is the pink liquid Sulfatrim? That’s what we’re on to try and see if it made a difference, but it hasn’t. I would ask the next vet you see to test for that as a precautionary measure.

Okay I just found the medication they are giving him and it is sulfatrim. And the sores are alotbbetter and the swelling is a lot better but, I still want it to be 100% or at least 95% before I stop worrying

It sounds like the vet was treating it as a UTI. If that is all they did and it hasn’t solved the problem, then it’s time to explore other causes. It could be EC, it could be bladder stones, it could be bacteria that is resistant to the antibiotic used, or it could be something else.
