I Just got my bunny lily a few days ago, and so far shes been okay, she flops, binkys and lets me pet her and usually comes to me and sniffs me and licks my face.shes eaten a cough drop or two lmaooooo! and forr the most part im overwhelmed. when i pick her up she scratches me and tries to get away ! everytime i had her on my lap and she climbed to my shoulder lolol. only thing i need advice on is how much to feed her shes only 2 months old. i give her unlimted hay but not sure how many pellets. And she VIOLENTLY bites the waterbottle nozzle while drinking and i have to hold it to get the water to come out faster. i want to bond with my bun but not sure how to. Like have her on my bed but she poops and pees there often. Any help?

For starters, don’t pick her up. You’ll only make her fear you. Bunnies don’t enjoy being off the ground as the are prey animals. She’s brand new, let her settle in and come to you. Don’t overwhelm her with so much attention. Just sit on the floor with her at her level. Don’t bring her up anywhere. Sit on the floor and read a book, play a game, watch a movie, play on your phone, but just ignore her and let her come to you. Interact with her at her level. Pet her if she allows, but if not don’t force it. Some bunnies can take time to open up. Also, make sure other things are out of her reach, cough drops can be dangerous, especially with her young age and developing gut.

As for diet, 1/2 cup of pellets is good for 2 months, a lot of places say unlimited pellets until 6 months, but you want to make sure she’s eating the majority of her diet as hay. A good thing to do would be feed her 1/4 cup in the morning and another 1/4 cup 12 hours later, that way she’ll be forced to eat hay. Until she’s 6 months old she should be on alfalfa based pellets. Don’t feed veggies until she’s 12 weeks old, and introduce them very slowly, one at a time over the course of a few days and monitor her poops. Until she’s put on weight, just give her 1 cup when she’s fine with veggies. She should never have runny poops. Cecals and runny poops are very different. Runny poops need a vet check. Fruit can be introduced at 6 months when her gut is able to better digest them, again introduce them very slowly. Fruit should be given sparingly 1-2 times a week and no more than a tablespoon. Most buns find a water bowl much easier to drink out of, so it might be a good idea to switch her to one instead.

Well A&B covered EVERYTHING I was going to say lol – so I second all of it and she saved me typing it LOL My bunny’s hate being picked up too – so don’t take that personally!

But I will second the water bowl – just rinse it out and refresh it in the morning and before bed… just make sure its a nice heavy one so she can’t knock it over.

Here is a great list from this website about safe veggies and fruites to start trying with her when she is 12 weeks or older – just introduce one at a time a little bit a time and watch to see how she reacts to it. But nothing buy Hay and Pellets (the amounts posted in A&B’s post above) for now… no cough drops

Oh another thing! Maybe not yet, but within the next 1-2 months her hormones will kick in. So be prepared for a change in your bunny. Some bunnies become territorial and aggressive, others will mark everywhere, and others will show amorous behavior. Some bunnies might even become standoffish . The only way to stop this behavior is to get spayed, which as a female she should be anyways to prevent reproductive cancers. She’ll also probably have a lack of litter habits until she is spayed as well. You can lay a good foundation for her, but as a rule most bunnies are much better when they’re fixed. Have her go in for a general vet check within the next week or two so you can get her assessed and attempt to be sexed. Babies are often incorrectly sexed, even at 2 months. Some bunnies don’t get testicles till 6 or so months. Most girls can be spayed when they’re fully developed at 6 months, and boys can be neutered around 4 months/when the drop.

Nothing else to add to what’s already been said other than please be careful that she doesn’t have access to unsuitable foods. A cough drop or two is not okay. That could mess with any bun’s tummy, especially such a young bun with a gi tract that isn’t fully developed. I’m not saying this to scare you, just let you know how important it is to ensure she only eats the proper foods
