For Zelda’s health: we got them both seen yesterday and the vet didn’t see anything obvious. No injuries, no spurs in teeth, BAR, healthy weight.. they think GI inflammation is why Zelda won’t eat her veggies but I don’t think so.. it’s been weeks if not nearly a month she hasn’t touched them and she hasn’t declined but her poops still haven’t…[Read more]

hello! i’ve had my bunny mochi for almost three years (i adopted her from a shelter) and still has not shown any signs of affection, she only likes being petted when she is sleeping/close to sleeping. she eats well (and gets snacks), sleeps well, grooms herself, and gets to go outside often so nothing seems wrong in terms of health. but she does…[Read more]

The only advice I can offer is, unless you know the person taking them, do not give them away for free.

If fixed, charge what a shelter or rescue group would charge.

If not, deduct from that what it would cost the new people to do so.

A free pet is likely to end up in bad hands…not always, but a lot.

I hope you can figure out a way to keep…[Read more]

    Thank you for the response.

Yes, headwar in as they both put their heads together and just stay there waiting for someone to do something.  I have them in separate rooms as Buns is free roam but I do have a gate across the door so there is some contact when I am able to supervise so a few hours a day usually. Buns has a hate for gates and will…[Read more]

Walter and Boo had their first official date in the tub.

Absolutely no aggression, Walter did a lot of humping, mostly her head.

She just sat there.  I tried to break it up a few times, but then figured since she didn’t seem mad, I’d let them work it out.  Was that ok?

About how many dates should they go on, considering they’ve been side by s…[Read more]

For headwars (which I assume is both of them putting their head down and waiting for the other to groom), I think a case-by-case of petting them both and also letting it play out is valuable. If letting it play out every time is leading to big fights, then petting it for now is fine. If it leads to tense interactions but not a full-fight, I’d let…[Read more]

I am attempting to bond my boy (Buns, 1 year old, neutered July 12th) and my girl Violet (3 years, spayed at least a year ago). I adopted Violet from a rescue and we did do a bunny date and it well enough that the rescue though there was a good chance at a bond.  I gave Violet about 10 days to settle in before we started the process.…[Read more]

Hey 😊 Glad to hear that it sounds like progress to you all as well. I was definitely encouraged when there were no real scuffles, and I’m planning on trying it again this evening.

For now, I’m just encouraging them eating by the gate, so they’re artificially “together” and am swapping blankets, space and litter boxes back and forth.

    Fingers…[Read more]

That sounds like progress and good info from the foster! And I 100% agree about providing more space but less clutter, we’ve noticed that as well with rabbits at the rescue I volunteer at.

Some pairs do seem to bicker more than others, so finding out what triggers your boys will help in the future.

I agree 100% with Wick that things are not likely to improve until she’s bonded, but there are some things you can do in the meantime.

Also how long have you had her? It can help to confine new bunnies to an x-pen for the first week or so to help them get “organized” with their box habits (which also involves seeing where she chooses for her…[Read more]

It sounds like your situation has changed due to an injury and starting school? And that your living situation prevents you from giving them proper exercise space?  Can you describe their housing a bit more? Even giving them a few hours access to a bunny-proofed room (or even a hallway) would be a big improvement for them.

If that is the case,…[Read more]

It sounds like she is experiencing some gas but is probably working through it. Agree that simethicone and some tummy rubs will probably help. If she’s eating now, push lots of hay and water, no treats, fruits, or starchy veggies. Extra leafy greens that are wet from being rinsed can also help, as long as they aren’t known to cause gas (like the…[Read more]

We are always very appreciative of follow-up! These experiences are helpful for those following your topic, as well as though who may visit it in the future. Thank you for the update, and so happy that things are progressing! It is great that the foster was able to provide some insight/guidance.

I’m sorry to hear you’re having such trouble! Unfortunately, there is a chance that she will not be “litter trained” prior to bonding with your boy. It is often the case that litter-trained rabbits “lose” their litter habits when in the presence/sharing space with another rabbit. As you mention, territorial marking occurs at this point. The “poop…[Read more]

    Hi,

I have recently adopted a 4 year old spayed lion head. Spayed in July according to the shelter. I am in the stages of prebonding her with my boy.

Shes lovely and friendly but the problem is she is weeing everywhere and I dont know how to stop her. She pees very indiscriminately, some if which looks like territorial marking. I live in a…[Read more]

You can start by giving her 1 ml of simethicone baby gas drops once operation hour for 3 hours. The fact that she refused to eat, then started eating again and the gurgle stomach makes me suspect that she had a bout of gas. Gas is often painful for a rabbit  but once the gas passes, the appetite tends to come back right away. Gas drops helps the…[Read more]
