What were his symptoms when you first realised he was unwell? Did he have seizures or other neuro signs? What poison was in the insect killer? In some ant poison there’s fipronil, which could cause seizures in a bun.
Liver lobe torsion would cause through the roof liver values. It seems unlikely that a tiny bit of insect killer residue on your…[Read more]

I’m sorry this is happening to your bun.
Since you seem to have a rabbit savvy vet, I’m guessing e cuniculi has been considered and tested for? Hind end weakness is a typical symptom of an ec flare-up. Prednisone would relieve the tissue inflammation that ec causes, but it wouldn’t target the parasite, just help the body overcome the acute flare…[Read more]

Hi, so my rabbit passed away yesterday 🙁 He had high liver toxin levels and couldn’t confirm but said it was likely liver lobe torsion (or something else with similar prognosis like cancer but with the levels they saw 90% of time it’s torsion).
I can’t help but wonder, probably guilt but if this is possible I’d also like to know: could I have…[Read more]

hi friends.
really going through it right now with my 5 yr old mini lop. she gets stasis about twice a year without fail and had a full parasite work up in november looking for possible causes. labs all totally normal. no obvious cause of recurring stasis. she is a super fluffy bun so maybe just sheds. on dec 31 she developed a lower limb…[Read more]

Bam replied to the topic Is her poop too dark? in the forum DIET & CARE 1 year, 9 months ago
Poop color varies with the moisture content of the food. Fresh grass and leafy greens will make the poop darker than hay will. My buns’ poop always change to a darker color in the spring/summer because of the addition of fresh grass.
The poop on your picture still looks very good, good round uniform shape and with bits of hay in them. Darker poop…[Read more]

Oh no! I’m so sorry Thumper took a turn. It’s clear something was very wrong and, as Bam said, losing Blossom was probably the final straw. You absolutely do not have to delete your account. You are always welcome here.

I’m so sorry.
This is just horrible, to lose two buns in such a very short time. It sounds like he had something really serious going on, you had noticed weight loss. Losing Blossom could perhaps have been the final straw 💔 I’m glad they got to have each other for such a long time.
You dont have to delete your account here of course. You are…[Read more]

Last night at about 7 PM-8 PM we lost Thumper. When we brought Blossom’s ashes home yesterday he took a dramatic turn, it got to the point where he kept face planting in the floor and he let me hold his chin and lift his head up a couple of times. He was dropped off at the vets and the vet said that he probably had a medical thing going on as well…[Read more]

Neutering has it’s benefits. But there are not the same health implications since testicular cancer is rare (and uterine cancer is common). So convincing family members to have a pet neutered when they are worried about their “manhood” can be difficult.
I would start by explaining that a neutered bunny is easier to live with. Neutering cuts down…[Read more]

Dana gave you some wonderful advice. I agree that there is no shame in rehoming, especially if it is so she can have a better life. But it has also only been a day or so. I don’t think there is anything wrong with waiting a few weeks to see how things go.
Being completely honest here… I think everyone goes through that “OMG, what did I just…[Read more]

I think it’s admirable that you are being honest with yourself, and I don’t think there is any shame in rehoming or returning her if you realize a rabbit just isn’t the right pet for you. Far too often rabbits suffer because people are too ashamed to get help, or they are impulse buys that are abandoned, especially this time of year.
BUT, I also…[Read more]

Unless you are feeding a pellet that’s specifically meant to be free-fed, like Sherwood Forest, that way of feeding pellets will likely lead to obesity and not enough hay consumption, which then leads to other issues like dental problems.
I recommend starting to scale back her pellets to a measured amount each day. May sure she is also eating hay…[Read more]
