I concur with @DanaNM that a second consultation with a rabbit-savvy vet is wise: https://wabbitwiki.com/wiki/Choosing_a_rabbit_veterinarian#Rabbit_veterinarian_listings
The notion of leaving rotten/infected teeth in the jaw does not sound wise long-term in addition to short-term, regarding maintenance of secondary complications of leaving them…[Read more]

I forgot to say thanks yet again! I know I have the bonding thread but trying to keep the 2 separate and will resume updating there when I get back to bonding.
Update: The vet tech was able to talk to one of the vets. They said stop the Baytril, get some CC in her and monitor until she gets back to normal. I was able to catch her, and…[Read more]

She just had gone in her box and ate some hay, but maybe not water. Now she is in a place I might not be able to catch her, but I will try. I will try the scruff trick but not sure if I will be able to tell. She is really giving me a headache :/

Can you see if she’s dehydrated? If you grab a handful of scruff and then let it go it should kind of snap back quickly. If it kind of rolls slowly back into place, she could be dehydrated. I’ve noticed with my buns this can be one of the main things that makes them not feeling well, and they perk up really quickly after some CC and fluids.
She…[Read more]

Is your vet experienced with dentals in rabbits? To me it sounds like they are not? If you can, I suggest finding a specialist or at least getting a second opinion from a rabbit vet. I had a rabbit with rotten molars and they were removed (he was also very young, it really sounds a lot like your bunny’s case). If they aren’t it could lead to…[Read more]

Her cecotropes also don’t sound terrible to me, can you post a picture? It’s pretty normal for young rabbits to have excess cecotropes because their diet is more rich. I really think she should be on an alfalfa source at her age, she needs the extra protein for her growth.

Have you tried a probiotic? At her age it’s possible she was weaned too early and her gut flora never properly established. Wild life rehabbers use Bene-bac for weaning orphaned cotton-tails.
Do you have any other rabbits? My vet in the past prescribed “Poop shakes” for cecal dysbiosis, where take cecotropes or poops from a healthy rabbit and mix…[Read more]

I talked to the tech and like I thought not a great answer. She also mentioned CC. I honestly don’t like that answer because it will stress her out even more, and still not sure if this is stress induced or side effects from meds. They are hoping to get ahold of the vet and call me back with advice. I really don’t think giving her meds and living…[Read more]

I would wait to hear back from your vet, but Baytril tends to be pretty well tolerated, and I know with antibiotics it’s generally not good to skip a dose. So personally if I didn’t hear anything back I would give Max his next dose.
Can you syringe feed Ruby and/or give her some fluids while you are waiting to hear back from the vet tech? She may…[Read more]

Hi again,
Since the nose kept getting wet and looked a little green on the fur, I went ahead and started Baytril. Also my other rabbit seemed like her nose may have been wet and they both seemed to lick the air, like something was running into their mouth, (and just given their close proximity), I have been giving her the meds too. I have a…[Read more]

My bunny has been having digestive issues for a while. I made topics about it before. She’s currently recovering from stasis but the cause of it wasn’t entirely known. Now, I’m pretty sure it was connected to dysbiosis.
She’s ok through most of the day, she eats and poops normally but she gets bad gas episodes every day at around 10am, which is…[Read more]

My Fluffy is 1 year 4 months old mini lop. He was chubby and ate hay well when we adopt him 2 months ago from RSPCA. Recently around 3 weeks he refused eating hay but still has good appetite for greens and weeds from garden.
Vet found from X-ray that he has rotten teeth and infection on both sides of this mouths. Vet do not suggest to remove them…[Read more]

Yea it’s under the skin 😥  ugh, now I’m worried. Harper is impossible to give medicine to so I wonder how this is gonna go. I’m gonna take pictures every day and if it gets any worse or bigger then I’m gonna try for a sooner appointment.

Is it underneath the skin? If so, then I agree with Wick. It’s possible a bite wound got infected or formed a small abscess.

I think it’s more likely that the head tilt is caused by EC. This doesn’t mean an antibiotic would not help though. It’s been documented that Enrofloxacin does have some effect on EC. It doesn’t cure it though. This is why you hear stories of a rabbit having an “ear infection”, they are treated with Enrofloxacin, they get better, and then once the…[Read more]

Update:
She has received 3 doses of Meloxicam thus far.. the inflammation in the eye looks waaaay better and she is actually hopping around exploring the house rather than hiding all day. Yay!! But the head tilt is still the same… no improvement. However, she is not falling over or as wobbly as she was before… she still follows the walls etc…[Read more]
