Has she been on any other pellets before? I’m thinking Wick may be on to something. She mentioned that the gas episodes could be a reaction to her pellets. Perhaps there is something in them that doesn’t agree with her.

Hoping all the best for Daisy. It does indeed sound like she is really set-up to thrive and succeed after all is said and done. You have done the best you can to support her to this point and am looking forward to a positive update.

Antibiotics kills off bacteria, including good bacteria found in the gut. If your bunny is recovering from stasis, then too many antibiotics may interfere with his gut getting back on track. Metronidazole is typically used in other animals to treat parasites and bacteria that cause inflammation in the gut. But if you’re bunny just has mushy…[Read more]

I may be missing something, but everything you describe actually seems… normal? Outside the GI stasis episode (which sometimes those happen and we’ll never know the cause; rabbits get gassy sometimes, it happens), a lot of what I’m reading again, seem typical?
This does sound like what is actually a typical case of a young rabbit who, on an…[Read more]

My vet is an exotic vet, I believe Rabbit saavy. My bunny completed other medication: Metacam(had reaction), cisapride, Cholestyramine. All are stopped now. I am also kind of puzzled about the new antibiotic metronidazole.
What do you think what antibiotic makes bad?

Sending some vibes for Daisy!
When my dental abscess bun got treated it was clear that he felt much much better after it was cleaned out. He started eating hay immediately after he had a molar extraction, so it must have been causing him a lot of pain. Hopefully Daisy bounces back too!

Is your vet rabbit savvy? Antibiotics are not usually a first-line treatment for stasis, and can make things worse. Is your rabbit on any other medications?

Hello, I have a bunny who is 4 years old male. He recently went through horrible GI stasis!! He is recovering now. He received Baytril which is finished, but he is still having soft poop. My vet saw the pic and suggested to start another antibiotic metronidazole, suspecting anerobic infection as he is still having soft poop. My bunny is 8th day…[Read more]

I’m sorry you have to do this alone. You are doing great though. I agree with LBJ that her symptoms are consistent with ec. Fenbendazole is the absolute first choice in battling ec. Other drugs might alleviate symptoms, but they wont adress the root cause.
Its wonderful that the meloxicam seems to help. Ec is an intracellular parasite that causes…[Read more]

My wife, Ouisie posted in House Rabbit Q&A a couple of weeks ago as we just weren’t sure what to do about a dental abscess our older bun, Daisy had developed.
We spent a long time on the decision making. Not sure what would be best for her, at her age. (She’s about to turn 9.)
We didn’t know if we should consider putting her through the somewhat…[Read more]

Ah, a friend who used to have lots of rabbits told me that maybe the bacteria in her cecum is all over the place because of the sugar so I thought it’d be the same thing as dysbiosis, just not as advanced.
The first thing that happens is the poops stop completely, she’s usually like a poop machine, then she stops running around, hides in her…[Read more]

Oh and I was so concerned about Ruby, I didn’t answer about Max. I had planned not to skip his next dose based on what you said, and the tech said a half dose would work. I may just fill up the full amount knowing he resists swallowing and some may not get in him (or better yet he’ll eat it in fruit). He doesn’t seem adversely affected by getting…[Read more]

Yes, I’m sure this is a bit subjective situation but glad a vet gave an answer on what to do, just hope it doesn’t backfire later. I’m thinking maybe after I finish the meds for Max they can both get a culture to test for any bacteria to be sure.
I’m glad you also suggested the water, my vet has never suggested I guess because of adding water to…[Read more]

The first pic to me looks like a cecotrope that got kind of smashed.
When I think of cecal dysbiosis, I think of all the poops being kind of mashed together, without any normally formed poops or separate cecals. To me this looks more like excess soft cecals, as opposed to full on dysbiosis. The metaclopromide could actually be partially to blame,…[Read more]

Glad you got some answers! And yes hopefully they vet can make you a better suspension! Sometimes the vet-techs don’t realize it’s for a bunny and make them liver flavored for cats (yuck). My bun’s favorite flavor was one called “tooti fruity” lol

I don’t have any other rabbits. She’s my first rabbit in years. We’ve had rabbits before, but never one with such bad digestive issues, or any digestive issues really. And they weren’t half as spoiled as her!
Someone recommended giving her Bio-Lapis. The vet said it’s ok so I did, but it made her gassy and she stopped pooping, again. The next…[Read more]
