Hmmm, that is curious! But some buns just hold their weight more easily. And some vets really like to see bunnies very lean (it helps with their joints later in life). Also, bunnies’ metabolisms shift at that age and they can kind of round out a little.

The only things I can see that you might reduce are the Fibafirst stick and the pellets (even…[Read more]

Ah thanks Dana– I apologize for skim reading and overlooking that mention. Indeed, I do still think that hormones may still be at play if the neuter was recent, so I agree with your appraisal Dana!

I got a rubber broom recently and it’s been a GAME CHANGER. There are hand held and full size ones, highly recommend for any hay clean-up!

Caring for an ill bunny is so incredibly stressful. šŸ™ I agree with Bam that not hovering will help you both. You are doing a great job with him, the supportive care required can be really exhausting. Just know that if you are getting food into him every 8 hours or so, he should be stable, so you can relax a bit in between his feedings (especially…[Read more]

You are being a wonderful bun owner. But you should absolutely stop hovering over him all the time when you’re home, or you risk making yourself sick too, from stress.

When I had a bun who was very poorly for about 5 weeks, I spent a lot of time in the same room as him, but without interacting directly so much, unless he initiated it, or it was…[Read more]

@Wick I think the OP mentioned they are castrated? @Rit how long ago was Snowball neutered (the term for castrating in male animals is neutering, spaying is for females)? And how long have you had them?

Since Snowball is only 5 months, i suspect that Wick&Fable is correct, likely there are some hormonal fluctuations after Snowball’s neuter that…[Read more]

I will address your question/concern, and also acknowledge that I am against the notion of taking a rabbit out for walks on a leash. If he is getting ample free-roam time inside, there is no need to bring him outside where more things are out of your control and more risks are there for your rabbit. If you live in the United States, please note…[Read more]

It is likely because of your 5mo Snowball– what they had was a baby bond, which is also known as the false bond. A baby bond involves at least one young rabbit and essentially the bond is held together by the fact that the young rabbit is not yet experiencing hormonal urges, therefore the rabbits are able to get along. Now that Snowball is…[Read more]

Ongoing issues: 2 days ago I gave him a few pellets just to make him eat. But his mushy poop became more mushy and pasty. I stopped that. I am still feeding him critical care and vege, little hay.

I am feeling anxious and having caregiver stress, is there any way I could make myself a little calmer and less anxious while taking care of him. I…[Read more]

A great tip that one of our great members gave us years ago and which I’ve been using ever since, is to shake ut as much hay as you can (obviously!) and then tumble-dry the dry blankets for about 5-10 minutes. (Don’t leave the dryer unattended though, since there might be a slight fire hazard when you tumble dry sth that is already completely dry.…[Read more]

I had a male bun who suddenly started doing this exact same thing, although on the couch, when I was on it. Both boy and girl rabbits have some hormonal production in their adrenal glands even when they are neutered, and this “function” can be triggered by factors in the environment. It usually occurs in early spring and it’s then triggered by the…[Read more]

BunnyLass’ friend: We’ll definiely not be telling you to give your buns up.

I just spent the whole of yesterday listening to a vet webbinar about surgery in rabbits, particularly healthy spay/neuters. I have a young doe who is getting spayed tomorrow, and I do admit that I’m a bit scared – I’ve only ever had to neuter boy rabbits.

    Castration is…[Read more]

Oh yes Bam, you’re so right about the re-proofing! I’ve learned this about bunny-proofing: bunny-proof a room and let a bunny prove you wrong…

It’s sad that it didn’t work out with her intended husbun, but I’m happy that she found a good home with you. I really hope that Molly and Owen will bond…

These young binksters don’t have any fear, it…[Read more]

Ellie, I’m so happy for you! Wonderful news! I think Breintje heartily approves beyond the Bridge, these two are as close to his offspring as it gets!Ā  He’d be the first one to tell you that a home is not a home without a bun.

They’re so adorable and so tiny! It is of course very wise to separate them beforeĀ  Molly loses her patience with O…[Read more]

I’m making this post for a friend, these are her words.

“I’ve had rabbits for 3 years now and they’re not spayed or neutered. I’m trying to decide what to do. Everytime I get money to spay my doe something happens like the buck getting sick so I have to take money out of that to treat him. Or I need the money for an emergency thus the same thing…[Read more]

I have a pair of bonded mini lop bunnies they get along so well since the beginning. Both are male and spayed. One is 1 year 5 months old , another one is 5 months old.

They were bonded since the beginning , groomed for each other, sleep next to each other. Just recently they fought for 2 times. Ā the 5 months old Snowball started the fight. Do…[Read more]

    Hi,

I’m a new bun mum and would love your insight on this!

Background: I adopted a minilop boy, now 4 months old. I’ve had him for 2 months now. He’s not desexed yet.

Problem: When I take him out for a walk in a quiet park (on a leash), he runs around and hops around, and then when it’s time to go home (after 20-40 mins or so), he will not let…[Read more]
