Ok, please don’t think I’m crazy bc this may sound a little off but I’m serious…. So I’ve had Belle my rabbit since she was 6 weeks old. When I got her somebody had bought her and couldn’t take care of her because she kept breaking out of the cage and they were afraid that they were going to lose her so I got her and we’ve had her for now almost…[Read more]

    Oh dear 🙁

If you suspect an injury, it would be best to have him seen by a vet. They can also do a sanitary shave for you to remove the matted areas and give you a fresh start.

It also could be hard for him to move his tail because it’s matted up. If he’s sitting up, does he hold it up right?

If you conclude he’s not injured, it would be best…[Read more]

    The tail could be broken.

You can cut the hair that’s matted and dirty. Take care to not cut too close to the skin, rabbits have very sensitive skin. Really matted fur wont come unmatted regardless of whst comb or brush you use. Sometimes you can pry individual clumps of hair apart with your fingers.

It sounds like your bun comes from lrss than…[Read more]

Congratulations on your soon-to-be children! 🐇

I made some really terrible mistakes when I got my bunnies and I try to help other new bun parents from making the same ones.

Here are my top 5 mistakes (that you probably won’t make anyway, but here they are.)

    5. I did not prepare at all. The day I got them, I researched for 2 hours and what I…[Read more]

If you can find fresh grass, that can also be really good (hydration + fiber). Soaked hay is a good idea too!

I’ve found it’s much easier to syringe water when I use a 1 mL syringe, the bun always seems to swallow way more of it than when I use a 6 or 10 mL syringe (like I usually use for CC).

I fed Oxbow adult rabbit pellets for many years, and the rescue I volunteer with feed their pellets to all the rabbits. They are generally a high quality pellet, but no brand is 100% perfect. Since your bun has had those pellets before and you have them on hand, I would try introducing them slowly and see how he does. Starting with a teaspoon…[Read more]

I just recently got a long fur bun and when I got him his bottom is completely matted and soiled, is poops are still round but sticky and when he pees it just gets on his bottom. I don’t know what to do to clean his bottom it’s really bad and I don’t want to bathe him. Also I’m quite scared cuz his tail seems completely broken, like it’s completel…[Read more]

I’m so sorry for the ordeal you’ve been through with her, and sorry things got worse again after they had started looking up. 🙁

You know her best, and I think it’s a great option that someone can come to your home.

Sherwood does have a free choice option which I think would suit rabbits very well. You can change pellets, just do it gradually. It might be that another type of pellets are better for your bun than another, even though the overall quality of the pellets are equal. All my buns have gotten a variety of different pellets because I believe in food…[Read more]

My setup for him right now- he has hay in 5 places. 3 of the boxes are full of hay and I change it every day (it get wasted a lot). He seems to like going to different areas and eating the hay. I do not want to put him on a lot of pellets. I have Oxbow pellets. Little hesitant to use the pellets, but he was on oxbow critical care though. Not sure…[Read more]

As LBJ says, it can happen in literally seconds. I know a dog-trainer who thought she’d be able to intervene if a male dog tried to mate with her female dog that was in heat. She wasn’t successful, and those were spaniel dogs, rabbits are even quicker.

I don’t think it’s possible that two rabbits of opposite sexes wouldn’t try to mate. There are…[Read more]

It could be very difficult for him to sustain his weight on hay only, let alone gain back some of the weight he’s lost. A small amount of high quality pellets should be rougly the same as giving Critical Care, and Critical Care is not considered harmful. The main problem would probably be if you’d feed him so much pellets that he’d fill up on them…[Read more]

Our bun, Daisy has been going through so much over the last month. I’ve made a handful of posts about her surgery and recovery so far, but haven’t posted for a couple of weeks.

She had been doing amazingly well, but with the COVID restrictions at our vet, the appointments have felt very disconnected. Also, we haven’t been able to choose who we…[Read more]

My bunny lost 180 gms over a month after the stasis. My second vet and specialist recommended I give him 1 teaspoon of pellet. I agree his hay consumption has significantly improved and I cut down his vege and CC. Now I am unsure about the pellets. One of the journals I was reading said giving pellets would prolong the turnaround. AT this point…[Read more]

the hay tea smelled really good to me and she gave it a few licks but ultimately lost interest. I tried syringing the water she spit almost all of it out. She isn’t eating much of her veggies, let alone when they are soaked, the water  demotivates her.

I am currently diluting her gas drops with water so instead of just getting a syringe of gas dr…[Read more]
