They are communicating with each other, so it’s OK because these things need to happen– just like tense conversations with a roommate. The longer you’re together, the more things come up and you and the roommate need to communicate and see if you’re compatible and willing to work it out. Remember that when we bond, we’re “forcing” friendship…[Read more]

Oh, I’m so, so sorry.
You tried so hard to help him. Noone could have done more than you did.

also what triggered the tiff is just that they kept messing with each other because they want to sleep at that exact spot😭like when one of my buns flopped then the other one will come and “dig” at him then he slept there and the other just had to accept it,,,and eventhough they can last up to 6 hours and more, they still kept bowing at each other…[Read more]

okay so does that mean I can still continue the 24 hour session? I think I’ll try again another 24 hour session the day after tomorrow in a neutral space then I’ll update again! also it’s fine if I skip tomorrow right? cause I have guests coming the whole day tomorrow so I can’t supervise them 24/7 also don’t worry the session today ended on a…[Read more]

With a heavy heart my bunny is no more, he died this early morning. My gut feeling he had choking. I am at loss now 🙁

This is helpful and makes sense with what I was thinking. I think with the number of fights they’ve had and the tension you described, I wouldn’t try more bonding sessions at this time. The fact that they aren’t stressed about being separated also indicates they aren’t bonded anymore.
Binkies can also be a bit of a dominance display. Like “look…[Read more]

So, it is pretty normal for issues to come up at night, which is why it’s important to do the 24 or overnight sessions. Buns are more active at night, so things tend to come up.
The 24 hr session should be in neutral space. It can be the same one you’ve been working in, or a new neutral space. Sometimes the original space starts to get less…[Read more]

This is why the long 24-48hr is recommend because time of day influences their activity levels and you need to observe if their present dynamic holds through. It could be because they were fed up with being with each other for so long, one did something the other didn’t like, who knows as we were not there. That being said, again, this is why the…[Read more]

I’m glad she’s feeling better! And it is so hard to see them frustrated, but just remember it’s temporary!
Phone books are good for shredding. You can also hide her pellets in hay stuffed in a toilet paper roll to make her forage for them. Palm plates and willow twigs/baskets are also very popular with my buns!

update!!
okay so today I’ve tried to do a 24 hours bonding,,,,the whole morning/evening,they were both tolerating with each other but when it got during nighttime,at around 8 pm ,they had a tiff like they kept nipping and one of my buns fur was flying but also it’s probably because both of them are molting and one of my buns is a mix…[Read more]

also before moving them to their final home, should I deodorize their pen place first? I didn’t know that,,and should I deodorize their litter too before the overnight session? also does spraying vinegar helps in getting rid of their scents? seriously,is there anything I should do?

This is obviously a bit difficult. Fresh apple twigs would probably be the best thing to keep her occupied – it’s like meaty bones for a dog. The twigs must be pesticide free. Willow twigs would work too and willow toys. That’s what I had prepared for my bun when she was spayed a month ago. I also made a bed for myself on the floor next to her and…[Read more]

So I’m supposed to keep her confined to her pen for 2 weeks to give her back time to heal (vet’s orders). She is back to her normal self and I feel so bad cause she desperately wants out and she still has a week left. I hope this won’t just cause more stress. Her “calming” pain meds aren’t making her as sleepy as they used to. I’m trying to pro…[Read more]

Thanks for the quick response, @dananm 🙂
I’m happy to know it’s not just me who finds it tricky haha I’ve been wondering if I’m overthinking things!
In the good times, they seemed to do all the right things. While there were some brief grooming wars, George would groom Fred 99% of the time and there was some reciprocation, too. The only issue…[Read more]

Thanks for using the template!
Hmmm, this is a really tricky one. (Also FYI I wouldn’t consider a session where they are separated by a barrier as a bonding session, but it does count as pre-bonding). Laying near the barrier is good, but some people also read it as a border-guarding behavior, so I tend to think of it as more neutral.
The thing…[Read more]

Just to clarify two points, our dogs are not directly around the rabbits. Their enclosure has barriers, and the kitchen and extra area are gated off from the dogs. So the rabbits can see/hear them, but no direct access.
And I forgot to list George’s temperament. He’s very hyper and unihibited around Fred, and the food aggression didn’t scare him…[Read more]

Oh that makes me feel better, and sounds more feasible. I could see that working for them too, since I really think once we get past this phase it will go smoother. They definitely felt closer today, (but I’ve felt that before only to be disappointed!) I will try to do something with them each day, even if only 30 min.

Spay/Neuter
Are your bunnies spayed/neutered? Yes; both male
If so, for how long (for each)? I’m not entirely sure, as they were adopted, but I believe for a year at leastHousing
Please describe your bunnies’ current housing set-up (living together, as neighbors, etc.).They were living together, between Oct and early Dec, from the time we a…[Read more]

It sounds like they are doing great! Are you still in neutral territory? Or a semi-neutral spot?
So, you can start with an overnight if you aren’t able to supervise for 24-48 hours straight. I was just writing in another thread that with my first pair I did an overnight first, then separated during the day because I had to go to work, then…[Read more]
