Went and visited BJ and Myra today! They seem to be doing well
and of course were cuddling when we got there
. 🙂 She said BJ has had some days where his arthritis has seemed worse but overall they are doing really well.I’m pretty sure everything is fine, but I’m super paranoid though because before Bertha died her arthritis got bad… and she…[Read more]

As Dana says, if he isnt eating you need to see a vet. Its good that he passed a big poop, but he must start eating. Gas drops will not cure stasis.

OMG they look great!! That first grooming vid is so sweet, you can see Maxwell purring. <3 And that last one with her flopped, belly facing him is really great and shows a lot of trust between them!

DanaNM replied to the topic Picking up a rabbit… in the forum BEHAVIOR 4 years, 8 months ago
“he will think he’s the boss“…. what??! Some vets sure do have some “funny” ideas about rabbit behavior. Rabbits are prey animals, they do not respond to humans in a dominance hierarchy, nor would being caught and picked up be part of a rabbit hierarchy.
I completely agree that it’s important to be able to pick up your bun confidently when…[Read more]

The nipping and chasing is a sign that things are starting to get tense between them. Personally, I would separate them and keep them side by side. Currently they have a “baby bond”, which could very likely break once Patches’ hormones fully kick in. The only thing you can really do to help their bond is get them both spayed. The chances of an…[Read more]

Have you seen a vet? Pain management and motility meds are often essential for stasis treatment. Gas sometimes goes along with stasis, but simethicone itself is not a stasis treatment.

Thank you!! What great info! I really like the thought about dividing the pellets and creating some sort of bunny proof connection between his stay-pen & the exercise pen! Max goes up & down the basement stairs (which are thankfully carpeted) like a pro so, a connection would be ideal!! Thanks again!!!

Wooohooo! Well done, that sounds great considering the struggle you’ve gone through. All that hard work is beginning to pay off, fingers crossed!
Mine are at a similar stage to yours at the moment, mutual grooming but still nippy and mounty. Hopefully a couple marathons over the holidays will cement their relationship

Thanks for responding! There’s really no purpose for him to sit in my lap, I was just curious. I thought he jumped off immediately because he thought I was going to do something to him, as if he were scared or something. Though there is no basis to that… This is my first bun so, I’m learning a lot. Re: picking him up, the vet told me that if I d…[Read more]

Hello!
Too much water can’t cause statis. In bad cases of stais or a GI blockage, the water in the intestine can sometimes “leak out” and leave the the intestines. In which case water by mouth will not make a difference, the rabbit needs sub q or intravenous fluids.
Rabbits in pain tend not to pee, they often hold the pee for as long as…[Read more]

Thank you!
Hope and Patches do not fight seriously, they do groom eachother sometimes and rest together. Hope nips her a lot and chases her but nobody gets hurt. Is there something I can do about the nipping?
Also, thank you so much for the boredom buster ideas. I will try them, I’ll see if they like the enrichment.
I agree that Patches…[Read more]

I agree with Wick that spaying will help a ton with litter training.
Do keep a close eye on them (look for fur clumps pulled or other evidence of fighting) to make sure they don’t start fighting as Patches starts to mature more. Pre-puberty rabbits will often get along, but then hormone changes will trigger fighting. If they do fight seriously,…[Read more]
