If you have two bunnies who don’t like each other at first, can they ever learn to get along? And if you have two bunnies that just won’t bond, is there anything you can do?
thanks 🙂 -

Sorry for the late reply. I hadn’t been checking the forum. I appreciate the kind words. Things have gotten easier as it has been over two months since Monty left us. We have been busy with work but also with taking extra care of Sylvester. He’s not been grooming his underside so we’ve been giving him weekly bum baths and removing mats. He really…[Read more]

With my first rabbit Bandit, a dwarf hotot, he was very tolerant of being picked up and held. I think it had to do with his personality more than anything. I would not say he enjoyed it but he never struggled. We actually used to bring him to nursing homes with our local bunny club and he was one of the few bunnies that seemed to understand the…[Read more]

Pine pellet or paper pellet litter work well absorption-wise, but pine pellet litter is definitely better at controlling odors.

I don’t think an enema would be beneficial. I would advise against it. What you’re describing sounds like a gas problem. Simethicone can help if the gas isn’t too serious. Tummy massages can help too. One other thing to try is to lift his butt so it’s higher than his front end. Gas bubbles rise, so sometimes this will help the gas bubbles work…[Read more]

But her energy levels are normal? I agree with Dana that this is a bit unusual. Most rabbits will still poop in a situation like this… just maybe no in the offending litter box. Then again, you would be surprised how long they can hold it until they can make it to their box. Although you would think sooner or later they would just give in and poop. Hmm.

We don’t have this kind of charity in my place nearby. I think my rabbit is bloated his having a big stomach and when massaging it he compress it and feels like a rock. He keep grooming even when I groom him most of the time even his legs and tummy fur but he keep having mats most of the time even when I just remove it the other day.

No problem! Glad to hear max uses stairs like a pro. If you can make it work then it could definitely be nice hands-off approach :).

Once a rabbit has stopped eating for 6-12 hours it becomes a veterinary emergency.
Have you researched animal charities that might be able to help pay for vet fees? Here in the UK we have the PDSA and Blue cross charities that help to give free veterinary care to animals who’s owners can’t afford vet bills. Hopefully you might be able to find…[Read more]

Also just wanted to add I have been in exactly your shoes with one of my past pairs. I had a pair that would be perfect all day and most of the night, and would start fighting between 3-5 am. This went on for 5 straight days! I decided to pause, and reassess. I ended up going to a new location (at my friend’s house), because in my case my neutral…[Read more]

So, it’s normal for there to be some set-backs and ups and downs, so I don’t think I would give up just yet. If your goal is a trio, ultimately you need these two rabbits to get along, so you might as well keep working with them (that’s my two cents anyway).
It’s important to try to prevent fighting, but even when we try our best sometimes things…[Read more]

You’re very welcome! Issues with picking up buns is a pretty common question on the forum so last summer I decided to just film my technique, since I haven’t seen it used much and most videos on rabbit handling demonstrate on rabbits that are easy to handle!

Gotcha. Yeah, if they are spending most of the day alone then I would definitely recommend separating them. I know it’s a huge pain, but I know of more than a few members whose buns fought so badly they weren’t able to rebond them later. 🙁

Hmm, rabbits can be pretty picky about their potty spots, but it is pretty unusual for them to not use the box entirely. I would be more worried that it’s a coincidence and she’s in some sort of GI stress. Is she peeing in it?
If she hasn’t pooped much since this morning, I wouldn’t wait until tomorrow for improvement. Is she eating her hay normally?

I’m not sure what you mean by giving an enema, but that also doesn’t sound like a good idea and isn’t generally a recommended treatment for rabbit stasis.
Are you able to syringe feed him? You can make a mash out of pellets if you don’t have a recovery food like critical care.
