Thank you, yes her behaviour is really positive. When I got up this morning she was in the litter tray eating hay. Apollo has been doing binkies since she got back. He spent 2 days just loafing unless we were interacting with him.
Cleaned out both litter trays again this morning so I can keep a close eye on her output. Otherwise my other concern…[Read more]

Thank you!! So for example, if I had an infected scab/wound in my hand that I am just treating with Neosporin and I’m not sure if it’s MRSA or just a basic infection, it would still probably be okay for me to interact with, pet, feed, and sleep in the same room as my rabbit?

In general, if no ill effects are observed within 6 hours of the ingestion of a potentially poisonous item, then it is unlikely signs will develop. Gastric transit time is approximately 3 to 6 hours.

BINKY_Libsre started the topic Too hot in the forum DIET & CARE 4 years, 7 months ago
Recently it’s been getting extremely hot with each day. The first couple of days my bunnies have been fine going about their usual routine. But as of late starting around yesterday morning I noticed them less active and just laying down in one spot. I can understand this as it seems like a normal thing for one to do when it’s hot and you’re tired…[Read more]

Is this just ciprofloxcin? Or is it a combo? You often find ciprofloxcin otic solution as a combo solution with a steroid (dexamethasone). I would proceed with caution if you have the one with a steroid.
As for the ciprofloxcin itself, I imagine you would only be instructed to use a drop or two per application.

MRSA is a bit different. I think Dana covered it well though. And yes, this is an unlikely scenario, especially in a pet rabbit (vs. a rabbit farm).

Thank you! This is not relevant to me currently, I was just curious because I know there are some zoonotic diseases that can be passed from rabbits to humans and vice versa. I agree that it would probably be very very rare for this to actually occur and hand washing before interacting with the rabbit would probably be sufficient and it would not…[Read more]

@lynne8832 This is something I had never considered, so I did a little quick googling. I found one study on MRSA in rabbits in meat rabbit farms (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7231059/). A lot of rabbits were carriers of MRSA, and in the conclusion the authors state:
“In this study, the rate of MRSA strains found infecting…[Read more]

That sounds really positive! They are definitely making progress!
If you’re referring to the cage area that’s the bonding area, yes I usually clean the area in between so all the hay is fresh and the area smells more neutral. Plus once the sessions start getting longer the area will definitely need cleaning. :p

Hi DanaNM.
Our bun has been with us for ~4 years. I used to try giving him green grass. No luck. He nibbles at best.
I have bought good quality timothy hay for him several times. He doesnot touch them.
I have tried other things like bamboo leaves (it is also a grass and our guinea pigs loved them). Does not touch them.
So I have given up.
He…[Read more]

Update:
I took your advice, Dana, and used as bigger bowl. I also set a jar of water in there so they couldn’t sit in the bowl. I also set it in the warmest part of the hutch. I left them at 8pm. and when I came back at 11pm. it was not frozen. When my dad got up to go to work at 2:30 a.m., the bog bowl was frozen, but he melted the ice in…[Read more]

That makes sense, thank you! Do you know if it is documented if humans can pass other infections to rabbits, such as MRSA? If a person had a MRSA infection, would they still be able to interact with and care for their bunny after washing their hands?
